time-skip!shinsuke x gn!reader

you scream at the top of your lungs, letting your emotions be known to the world. the pain you've been concealing pouring through your voice, it's been bottling inside you for too long.

tears start to come down your cheeks as you scream your lungs out. "uh, excuse me?" a low voice interrupts your moment causing you to quickly turn around and look at them.

you can't help but glare at the man. you've had your fill, everything triggers you at this point. "what?! can't you see i'm busy?" you huff in annoyance, shinsuke takes a moment before pointing down where a small shading is standing.

"uhm.. you see, my grandmother is having her rest at the moment and.." he looks back at you with a gentle smile, "and i would like it if you keep it down a little?" he asks politely.

you feel your face heat up and want to dig a hole for yourself due to embarrassment. shinsuke notices the change of your posture, “i’m all ears if you would like to vent out?” he hesitantly offers.

you take a deep breath, your tears continues to freely fall down your cheeks. your knees buckling causing you to fall down, a bitter smile present on your face.

“why would anyone think playing with someone’s feelings is fun?” your voice hoarse as you look up to him.

that was the first time you met him.

“y/n!” shinsuke calls out while waving his hand up high and this is the first time the team notices the subtle changes. you smile and pick up your pace, feeling giddy to meet them after so long.

shinsuke happens to be the first one you greet, on reflex you lean in as he does the same, both your lips centimeters away. he clears his throat and turns to the side while you straighten up fixing your neatly tucked shirt, “ah, my favorite twins!” you exclaim hurrying to them.

atsumu holds a hand up to point out what just happened but osamu is quick to pull down his hand, “y/n-san,” the gray-haired greets back.

the team decided to ignore the awkward atmosphere, confused by the situation but didn’t question it regardless.

right after the joyful get together, you don’t know how you got yourself in this situation. sitting down beside your ex, cracking a joke here and there.

you let out a bitter laugh downing your beer, shinsuke didn’t make a fuss keeping his eyes straight ahead.

you turn and point at him, your tears welling up, “we were doing great shin… what happened?” your last few words coming out as a whisper.

he sighs deeply bringing his knees closer to his chest, eyes fixated on the beautiful sunset.

“i fell out of love, y/n. that’s what happened,” he simply stated.

the crack he left in your heart slowly shatters, feeling them fall apart as you face your greatest fear, “shin i deserve to know.. you can’t just tell me you fell out of love.”

your sniffles getting louder, wiping your eyes with the back of your hand harshly, “don’t you think your being unfair here?”

you settle down the empty bottle next to you and release a shaky breath, “shin you left all those beautiful memories behind like it’s nothing, you threw them away without batting an eye.”

shinsuke remains quiet throughout your rant, “shin you are unfair. sooo unfair” once again laughing bitterly.

“shin you are so fucking unfair!” your voice echoes at the quiet field, letting your feelings be known to the world just like how you did back then.

you turn back to him, “i don’t get why they call you mr. perfect,” you trail off, tears flowing freely, you feel like your going through the same pain all over again. “shin you told me you weren’t gonna hurt me…”

blinded by your own emotions, you fail to see the way shinsuke’s hands tremble which he soon hides inside his pockets.

“that was your only promise… i held onto that shin, i’ve got it engraved in my mind” you say while tapping your temple as you turn your whole body to him.

moving closer to rest your forehead against his shoulder, “that wasn’t too difficult to fulfil. you managed to ace your quizzes, exams. you managed to find flaws in a well-planned volleyball attack yet why did you fail the simplest one?”

you bump your head against his shoulder while he remains still, serving as your pillar. “shin there wasn’t any riddle there, there’s no hidden meaning,” you begin sobbing again, the pain coming back to you.

shinsuke finally moves to embrace you in a hug, holding your head firm against his chest as he settles you between his legs. he starts rocking back and forth, mumbling comforting words, “i know,” he says.

you can’t help but laugh at his words, “no you don’t, fuckin bastard” you sniff and hit his chest. not making any move to get away from him, “i’m sorry,” his voice cracking a little. “i’m hurting more than you think, my love.”

you keep shaking your head, falling limp in his arms, having no energy to throw a fit. all you can do is cry your eyes out while he slowly calms you down. “i hate you,” you say in between your sobs.

isn’t it ironic how the one who mercilessly shattered your heart to pieces is the one comforting you right now?

shinsuke looks at you with teary eyes but a prominent smile is present on his lips this time.

“this is it,” he mumbles while holding both of your hands. he reaches out to wipe your tears away, “come on now, it’s a wedding not a funeral.”

you giggle while hitting his arm, “see, smiling suits you better,” he says while caressing your cheek. you lean to his touch, your sobs calming down.

“kita! it’s time!” aran calls out, breaking the peaceful atmosphere between you two.

“ready?” he says with a wide smile, you snicker, “you’re the one getting married, dummy.” he chuckles and offers his arm out for you, “well it looks like you need it more.”

the two of you sharing a laugh as the two big doors open revealing the once seated guests, the sweet melody of the piano welcoming you two.

“let-” you turn to face him with a proud smile, “let’s go?” your simple question brings back all the confidence he needs.

he takes a deep breath with his eyes closed and looks back at you, “let’s go.”

the two of you making your way down the aisle, taking time with your pace. he takes a detour towards his grandmother leaning in to give her a kiss on her cheeks.

after walking to the altar, shinsuke gives you a tight hug rocking the two of you side to side.

“thank you,” he mumbles while you rub his back in comfort, “thank you,” you echo after him. he lets go and ruffles your hair before facing the pastor.

turning around you see shinsuke’s grandmother motioning for you to stop by her, “why aren’t you the one with him right now? i’ve always asked the good lord for you” she mutters while cupping your cheeks.

you can’t hold back the tears that've been welling up in your eyes and purse your lips, shrugging as you also don’t know the answer to her question.

“guess it was not destined, granny” you sadly say, squeezing her hand gently before letting go to sit at your designated seat.

you watch as your only comfort and true love get married to someone else through your blurry vision, watching it while trembling both in happiness and sadness.

you were sure you’ve got him all figured him out; all those years you’ve spent getting to know him and learning everything about him. his likes and dislikes. his strict and uptight routine.

but even with all the knowledge you have, you can’t seem to distinguish the man standing in front of the altar.

shinsuke turns around and finds you in the crowd to showcase the wedding band around his ring finger, you nod with tears in your eyes keeping the wide smile as you feel the familiar pang of pain inside you.

i guess a better description to give him will be that he's a stranger you know well.
