Q1. Please introduce yourself. What genre of music do you mainly create?

A1. I'm lallaworks, a composer who mainly creates BGM (background music). I had a turning point in my life five years ago due to health issues, which led me to start making music. In the early stages, I uploaded music to SELLBUYMUSIC.

Q2. How did you become familiar with SELLBUYMUSIC?

A2. I had experience creating YouTube videos, so I was aware of the existence of such platforms. While searching for ways to monetize my music, I came across a blog post about SELLBUYMUSIC and decided to check it out.

Q3. Do you have any artists or songs that inspire you?

A3. Even during a period of life when I was quite distant from music, I loved "Joe Hisaishi - Merry-Go-Round of Life”, which resonated strongly with me compared to now. As a reference, I'm constantly creating songs like "Story: cinematic bgm" and "sad love: cinematic bgm" among my own compositions.

A4. I always strive to make it "a little more innovative!" Rapidly changing and vast, I believe that in order to grow, music representing such a world should be slightly more fresh.

Q5. If you have a favorite song among your creations, which one is it?

A5. I particularly like "Space Exploration," and the cover art I drew for it. Most of all, this song holds a special place in my heart because it made me realize that I could share my music with others. It's a story of exploring the unknown world of the universe and overcoming challenges, which resonates with my own journey. Whenever I listen to it, I gain energy.

Q6. Please personally introduce the attractive points of your music to the readers.

A6. Diversity. It encompasses various genres and moods, and it will continue to expand in the future! 😊

Q7. Is there a moment in your daily life when you find musical inspiration?

A7. Every moment. I try to jot down ideas no matter what. It usually starts with contemplation, but the most focused moment is when I sit down to work. It's a very interesting time when all the gathered thoughts and ideas come to fruition.

Q8. What kind of artist would you like to be known as?

A8. I want to be known as an artist with anticipation. Someone who makes people curious about what kind of music they will create next and when they listen, they can't help but say, "Ah, it's them again!" I want to become a versatile artist.

Q1. Please introduce yourself. What genre of music do you mainly produce?

A1. Hello, I'm bEAu. Currently, I'm working as a drama background music composer and bEAu is my stage name. Since I mainly work on drama background music, I don't really stick to a specific genre when composing. When I release my own albums, I tend to produce more ambient and minimalist music!

I think it's influenced by the artists I like. The reason why I started making video music was also because of the artists I admire. When I work on dramas, I have to write songs even for genres I'm not familiar with, so the concept of genre has become less important to me. ^^;;;

Q2. How did you come to know about SellBuyMusic?

A2. While preparing for the drama 'Hyena', I happened to discover Sell Buy Music while looking for music references. In the United States, there are many library companies like Sell Buy Music that are widely used in the drama industry, and I happened to come across a Korean library company during this opportunity.

Q3. Are there any artists or songs that inspire you?

A3. There are two artists who gave me the biggest inspiration to do video music. One of them is Olafur Arnalds from Iceland, and the other is the world-renowned maestro Ryuichi Sakamoto, who recently passed away.

Both of them always give me great influence and inspiration. It's hard to pick a song that inspires me because they have so many hit songs, but if I have to choose, I would pick "Ólafur Arnalds - Ágúst" and "Ryuichi Sakamoto - andata."

Q4. Is there a particular aspect that you pay the most attention to when making music?

A4. I always think about the situation and scene first when I write a song. I spend a lot of time thinking about what kind of situation and scene the song can be used in. I hope that people who listen to my music can feel like they've become the protagonist in a drama. Music that makes sad scenes sadder or helps people feel more in love when they're in love. That's why I always try to write music while thinking about the situation and scene.

Q5. If you have a favorite song among the music you created, what song is it?

A5. I think the songs that were inserted into the hit dramas last year come to mind first. The two songs that I like the most are "Who Was Killed" from the "Penthouse" OST and "Lovely W.Y.W" from the "Strange Lawyer Woo Young-woo" OST. Especially, I personally love "Lovely W.Y.W" because it suited the cute image of Woo Young-woo in the drama so well~ 😊

Q6. Can you introduce the attractive points of your music to your readers?

A6. I think the charm of my music lies in its ability to enrich videos. So, the intensity of the music is important. In that sense, my music plays a role in adding to the video. I think the charm of my music is that it does not overpower the video or detract from it.

Q7. When do you get musically inspired in your daily life?

A7. I think it's when I'm taking a walk or daydreaming at a café. I enjoy observing people while walking or daydreaming at a café. Then, I unfold my own imagination. I often get inspiration from imagining, "What kind of music would go well with that story?" while creating my own mini-theater alone.

Q8. Who do you want to be known as in the music industry?

A8. I want to be known as an artist who people say, "This song is definitely his!" An artist who always approaches with a new feeling and makes various attempts. I also want to be remembered as an artist's artist. That's exactly what I admired about Ryuichi Sakamoto. He always tried new things but made music that fit so well. It's my dream to become such an artist. ^^

Understanding Copyright : Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse Exclusive

Today, I want to talk about the exclusive copyright of Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse, which is famous worldwide.

1928 was the year when Mickey Mouse was born. He has become a symbol of the Walt Disney Company, even though he is now 95 years old.

Q1. What is copyright?

A1. Copyright is the exclusive right that authors or their successors in title have to use or authorize the use of their literary, artistic, or scientific works.

Q2. What type of copyright does Mickey Mouse have?

A2. Property right of copyright (the right of the author to economically benefit by allowing themselves or others to use the work).

The US Copyright Law was first introduced in 1790, with a protection period of up to 28 years. However, following two revisions of the US Copyright Law, the protection period was extended to 56 years, with each period being 28 years long. Originally, Mickey Mouse's copyright should have expired in 1984, but with the 1976 revision of the law, he became eligible for copyright protection for up to 75 years. Thus, despite the death of the creator, Walt Disney, in 1966, the copyright could still be exercised.

The next expiration date was in 2003. However, the 1998 "Sonny Bono Copyright Term Extension Act" extended the copyright protection period even further. The maximum period was extended up to 120 years. At that time, under the US-Korea FTA agreement, the posthumous copyright recognition period was extended from 50 years to 70 years, and works whose copyrights had already expired were not affected.

However, the effect of the act was to extend the protection period for works still under copyright by 20 years. Therefore, Mickey Mouse's copyright protection period has been extended until 2023, and the copyright law is expected to expire in 2024.

"Legally, this law is unconstitutional!"

Is it real? No, it is not.

Of course, many people have believed this from the beginning until now, but ultimately, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled in favor of the constitutionality of this law by a vote of 7-2. While it can be said that Mickey Mouse had a significant impact on U.S. copyright law, it is an unfounded claim.

A1. Hello, I'm "Short ISFP," a composer and singer-songwriter. 😊 At SELLBUYMUSIC, I mainly create cute background music or calm piano music. In addition, I release singles for my personal music activities and occasionally write music for dramas.

Q2. How did you hear about SELLBUYMUSIC?

A2. It was a long time ago, so I don't remember well, but I think I found it through an internet search. I was thinking about how to earn additional income through something that I could do well, and that's how I found it. :)

Q3. If there is an artist or song that inspires you, who or what is it?

A3. Rather than being inspired by a particular song, I tend to remember music that I like or unique techniques, and try to apply them when I write songs later on. I guess this is what you would call inspiration..? 🥰 I was influenced by pianist Yoon Ji-hee's performance and wrote a song called "The Season When You Bloom" (literal translation), and I also wrote a song called "Walking on the Road" under the influence of Kim Dong-ryul. These days, I listen to a lot of musical soundtracks. Recently, I'm hooked on "Six the Musical."

Q4. When making music, what do you focus on the most?

A4. I think I pay the most attention to the melody and atmosphere. Especially with BGMs, the mood and situation have to match well, so I tend to focus the most on whether the atmosphere fits well. Next, I pay attention to the length and structure of the song. If I keep the same atmosphere throughout the whole song, it can feel boring!

A5. It's too difficult to choose just one since all of my songs come from the heart, but if I had to pick one, I like "Fresh Spring" because it fits well with the current weather. Personally, I like the part where the piano comes in and it feels like taking a walk on a flower road :)

Q6. Can you introduce the charm points of your music to the readers?

A6. It's a bit embarrassing for me to say it myself, but I think it's the melody. 😉 I'm not good at creating grandiose songs, but I'm confident in creating cute and lively songs that can be used for vlogs or pet YouTube videos. Also, I've been told that I have an advantage in writing lyrics that people can empathize with. I think my tendency to look at individual trees rather than the whole forest is reflected in my music.

Q7. Is there a moment in your daily life that inspires you musically?

Distribution right

The copyright holder has the right to distribute the original or copies of the work. However, if the original or copies of the work have been provided through trade, such as sales, with the permission of the copyright owner, this does not apply.

In other words, if we assume that we are selling books, this principle eliminates the inconvenience of obtaining permission from the copyright owner every time the book is sold, from the publisher to the wholesaler, the wholesaler to the bookstore, and finally to the consumer. Once the initial sale is made, the copyright holder's distribution right is extinguished.

When the Korean Copyright Act was established in 1957, the protection period was set to "the author's lifetime plus 30 years." Over time, in 1987, the Copyright Act was completely revised, and the protection period was extended to "50 years after the author's death." After the Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement (FTA) was signed, the protection period was extended to 70 years from July 1, 2013. In other words, for authors who died before December 31, 1962, the protection period is considered to have expired.

On the other hand, the movie "Kingsman" was released in 2016, so the copyright protection period has not yet expired, and you cannot use it as you please. If you want to use it, you must obtain permission from the copyright owner directly or through an agency. Illegal use can result in the user's responsibility, and content exposure may also be restricted.
