SD Gundam Ultimate Battle: The Story Summary Part 1
Ok, I'm going to start writing summaries about SD Gundam stuff because I know at least a couple of people are interested in me rattling off about stuff.
But before I get into the stuff about Saddrac Knight Saga, which I think most people are interested in, I have to write about SD Gundam Ultimate Battle, and I'm splitting it into parts like the actual work did.
Tumblr media
Side note, I do like that the binder cover for the cards is Knight Unicorn Gundam's emblem.
Yeah, this is a work where Knight Unicorn Gundam debuts in. It's also the debut of another character in Saddrac Knight Saga who I will talk about a lot. (Veterans of my page will recognize the name "Vassal Duke Strike Freedom", his younger self appears in this under the name "Crown Knight Gundam III")
The story starts out after the events of "The Legendary Giant", the second arc of the original SD Gundam Gaiden work, Sieg Zeon Hen.
The protagonist, Knight Gundam, is shocked to see a bunch of Gundams appear in the kingdom of Lacroa and break out in a fight. But the most shocking of these people is Black Dragon, an enemy who he had previously defeated. During this fight, he is suddenly assisted by a mysterious Gundam.
Tumblr media
This is Knight Unicorn Gundam, a knight at conflict with a person named Musha Sinanju who had appeared as well. Using the summoning magic "Call", Unicorn and Sinanju start their Ultimate Battle, summoning characters from other SD Gundam worlds to fight each other.
Tumblr media
Knight Gundam is conflicted about this and yells for the fight to stop, as they are all Gundams and should not fight in his eyes. He is critiqued by the pilot of the machine soldier Legend Vatras, Crown Knight Gundam III.
"We were summoned by Unicorn's magic only to fight!"
During this, he is targeted by Black Dragon and Knight Gundam protects him, to his surprise. Knight simply explains that it is a knight's duty to protect whoever is in front of them.
Hearing these words, Knight Unicorn decides to bestow an upgrade upon Knight Gundam in order to end this battle: The Pheonix Armor.
Tumblr media
With assistance from Crown Knight Gundam III, Knight Gundam is able to overwhelm Musha Sinanju.
Tumblr media
However... Musha Sinanju then turned into a card upon being defeated.
Tumblr media
But that isn't all, something isn't right with Knight Gundam either...
Crown III: He's also a card...!? But then who...!?
Knight: Uuu.... GAAAAHHHHH!
Crown III: Knight Gundam!?
Tumblr media
Crown III: Wait! What's wrong!? Knight Gundam!?
Knight Gundam had turned into a card, and the person who picked it up was, of course...
"With this, finally all of the binder's cards have been gathered..."
Tumblr media
"From now on, the era of a new god has begun!"
Tumblr media
Knight Unicorn Gundam.

mage suletta and priestess miorine from a new sd gundam gaiden card series!
the rest of the cast and the mobile suits lol are in this series too. seems the lore follows the flow of the main story, with the benerit "tribes" competing for power, and suletta protecting mio?
michaelis' line about discovering that the dragon shrine maiden (?) is alive is interesting though. is miorine a fugitive in this au? also look at suletta's tanuki leaf and whiskers lmao.

Mashup Shining, G Burning, and Blazing, then give it a GN Drive for good measure, while retaining each components special attacks
Mashup at least 4 Hi-Nu Vrabes, give it Twin GN Drives, multiple transformations, four arms, and several Funnels
Mashup an Exia and Lupus to be an incomplete yet asymmetric monster, and claim it’s a lab accident from a nonexistent and badly written fanfic
Mashup a BB Nu, SD Koumei Nu, and toss in several extra parts to have an SDCS kit with multiple transformations
Mashup a one-off villain suit from Re:Rise with a myriad of other kits, to effectively play dress up with it, despite just modifying the same armor over and over again
Mashup Lupus Rex with Strike Freedom to make something that clashes with established lores
Mashup a 125$ gold kit with a retail release just to have a truly gold frame, then include fancy sword bits for shits and giggles
Mashup 2 Petitgguys to make a visual pun about a pilot named Ribbons
Mashup an SD GaoGaiGar and the SD Earthree that everyone else disliked, to make a fully combining SDCS GaoGaiGar Gundam

The MG Zaku ii Experience, Part 1
Idk what else im gonna call this, thought It'd be good content regardless, y'know. Catalog my first attempt at what I'm calling my REAL gunpla build. Decals, weathering, topcoat, panel lining (not doing any scribbing or whatever the word is, don't trust my skills yet).
Step 0: O What a Box
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I started doing gunpla on the suggestion of some discord friends and was instantly drawn to the Zaku silhouette. Mostly because it unlocked a core memory*
*SD Gundam toy from when I was like 5 that im 99% sure was also a Zaku ii
Even when I do attempt panel lining, I like to straight build the kit first, mostly because a) it's fun and b) I like to have the whole thing in front of me. Helps with decision making.
That said, inner frame:
Tumblr media
Already a handsome lad. No pre-molded mechanics like I am to believe newer MG kits have, but there's enough stability and secondary joint motions to make me happy. Also love the dimension including the cockpit has.
(As an aside, I'm so green when it comes to Gundam lore I was heretofore under the impression that the robots were like transformers, ie had autonomy and minds of their own, and the human characters were tagging along. This is in fact NOT the case, and piloting a gundam is tantamount to operating a tank. You guys can keep editing the wikis I'm comfy over here in Wow Cool Robot land)
When the inner frame was finished (I've learned to embrace nub marks) I debated a metallic topcoat. Then I decided not to, since I'm not doing a frame-exposed build or anything wild. At the end of it all I may spot-paint the joints, still
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Had a lot of fun just posing the inner frame, so just imagine how lame I'm gonna get when he's closer to being done. Will update the thread later tonight probably

How about a list of the best and worst things that has happen in Gundum in your opinion.
(Submitted by @drarnegas)
Okay, this may be … a tad biased.
Best
Gunpla. There are so many options to these plastic models. From collecting all of ones from a particular series, to making a custom mobile suit of your own.
Gundam Build Fighters. After so many years, there was finally a Gundam series based on the models, and holy shit it was amazing. Those who don’t know, this series is kinda set in a world similar to ours where the Gundam series is a thing. Yes people battling one another with these plastic models is a thing, and it also kinda fits into the point below.
Extended/expanded universe. Yes a lot of the Gundam series takes place in the same universe, that being the Universal Century, because that’s where the original Gundam took place in. However, there are so many other Gundam-verses. After Colony, Cosmic Era ect… But they all have side stories and OVA’s that expand the lore of their universe.
08th MS Team
Stardust Memory
Frozen Teardrop
Endless Waltz
Astray
Gundam Wing. Hell if it wasn’t for this series airing on Toonami in the 90′s I don’t think a lot of people would have gotten an introduction to Gundam until much later … Plus it’s one of my top 5 Gundam series.
GIANT MECHS FIGHTING IN OUTER FUCKING SPACE!!
And now we get to some of the bad things about the series of Gundam
Worst
Kamille Bidan. Yeah, this one’s gonna upset a few people I know who like Kamille. But I hate his character. In the beginning, he was a whinny little punk, and his obsession to prove his name was manly got his mother killed. Then towards the end of the series, he becomes this uncaring, unfeeling robot.
Shinn Asuka. Take what I said about Kamille, and multiply it by 10. I hated Shinn from the beginning of Seed Destiny (Incoming bias), and was heavily disappointed when he wasn’t killed by the end of it.
Certain characters survivability. (Okay moving on from what’s probably gonna get me lynched) There are times when characters survive something that would have certainly killed them.
Kira surviving the detonation of the Aeigis Gundam’s nuclear reacor
Kira surviving the rupture/detonation of the Freedom Gundam’s nuclear reactor
Shinn surviving the same situation listed above (fuck Shinn)
Heero constantly activating his Gundam’s self-destruct.
SD Gundams
Gundam 00 (Kidding, just trying to get a rise out of you).

So, a few months ago, during culinary class, my friend Brandon pointed me in the direction of this... thing...
(credit to Carlos Obregon for uploading this)
It’s a trailer for an un-aired American Gundam series called Doozy Bots.
Admittedly, I don’t know too much about the Gundam franchise. I’ve watched the original Mobile Suit Gundam, Mobile Fighter G Gundam, and Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, and heard great things about Iron Blooded Orphans, but that’s as far as my experience with the franchise goes as of now. I mean, it’s been around since the 70′s and it’s still going strong. But thanks to the Gundam Wiki, I managed to get some information about this series. From what I’ve gathered, this seems to be a heavily 90′s American attempt to create a robot series. It was based on SD Gundam and was an attempt to bring the series over to Western audiences. But enough about that, let’s check out the plot.
Matt (he’s the only name I could make out from the ass audio for what I assume would’ve been the theme song) and his friends go to the lab of a mad scientist named Professor Doozy. He has a monkey and a hot daughter/assistant. Matt is the captain of his school’s football team, the blonde girl’s a cheerleader and I assume his girlfriend (or at least love interest), the fat kid’s a hockey player, the surfer dude has no real personality to speak of (though to be fair, none of them really do) and the black guy is a cripple. Doozy, because he’s a fuck up, accidentally let some of his robots go ape-shit and so commissions these athletes/token cripple to go beat them up and stop them from robbing the world of fun. (No I did not make that up. Also, if this sounds like the plot of Mega Man 1, then I should point out that Doozy looks like Dr. Wily.) The misguided robots are led by this yellow robot (if you get mad at me for not using its proper model name, remember that I have little experience with Gundam and only wanted to talk about this because of how weird it was), who rides on the back of a giant turkey which supposedly lays eggs to create their army. To this end, they steal electricity from a power plant, but fortunately the Doozy Bots show up to stop them just in time (at least, that’s what I think Matt says, despite them clearly showing up several hours later). The Doozy Bots use all kinds of wacky weapons, including lassos, bubblegum shots, and tar bombs on the robots. After the battle, the black guy (who by the way is the only one without the ability to fly) scoops them all up in a giant gashapon shell and dumps them into a river. The scientist and shows up with a serum, before his hot daughter throws it without even considering what it does (along with the narrator calling the series “beautifully animated”, which gave me a nice chuckle), and as a result nearly kills one of the token dweeb sidekicks (one of whom is the black guy’s brother, who is literally named Tag-along). Needless to say, this series never saw the light of day ever again... which is a shame to be honest, because I’m genuinely curious to see where this series would’ve gone. Would we get some seriously awesome/stupid memes? What would this series’s Char archetype be like, if there would even be one? Did the voice actors get paid to do this?
These are questions I want answers to.
If you reblog this, I want you to write scripts/synopses for episodes for this series using all Gundam lore up to the early 90′s. Do me a favor and spread the word about this enigma. Shout it out from upon the rooftops! More people need to know about this! Please, I beg you! I do this not for attention, but to spread the will of Professor Doozy and his Spec Ops team known as the Doozy Bots! You owe it to yourself as a fan of Gundam to unlock the hidden secrets of this series! One cannot just simply allow an eclipse to pass them by, and the same must be said for this series!

ASW-G-71 Gundam Dantalion
Y’ever notice how there’re only eight Gundams in IBO? Bael, Barbatos, Gusion, Astaroth, Vual, Flauros, Kimaris, and lastly Dantalion. There’s multiple versions of half of them, so it might seem like there’s more, but it really is only eight. Makes really curious about the other 64.
There’s a lore bit that bugs me about Dantalion, It’s supposed to be a machine built to solo enemy bases during the Calamity War. But, the Calamity War was supposed to be a war of humans VS the AI Mobile Armors, right? Do Mobile Armors have bases? Did they capture space colonies and harvest them for Pluma parts? There’s just so much about the Calamity War we don’t know...
The Good: Man, IBO always knows how the hit my good points aesthetically. A sleek design with minimal hip skirts, the skull-like motifs, multiple transformable weapons, it’s got a ton of stuff I like. It’s got extra jointing in its elbows, the Halfcowl T arms are fully posable. It’s a great kit.
On a side note, like with Gundam Vual, Dantalion has a few new armor-less Frame pieces, specifically its knees and back hipskirt. If you’re into customizing then you might want to keep this guy on your radar for those reasons. I’m thinking when IBO is said and done with I might pick up another Dantalion and 2 Vuals and make a bare Gundam Frame. Should be fun.
The Bad: While the backpack was designed to transform, it doesn’t feel like it was meant to stay in Booster T mode. Even using the added stand part to hold the arms together, it leans very slightly to the right. Nothing locks in place or holds together with anything but friction and a prayer. It really feels like it was made primarily to be arms and have the added factor of being transformable.
The Details: None of the grey/silver detailing has any stickers or molding or anything to them other than the shoulders and they’re really annoying to paint, especially the arms because of how sunk-in they are. I did take a couple liberties, like changing all the orange to gold and such, adding more blue to the Bayonet Sword, more red to the backpack, etc.
Overall, it’s another really good kit. Did I say the last one I built was my favorite? Well, I’ve already found a replacement. I really hope they release another version of this kit with the Halfcowl B (yes, there is a [B]ottom Booster, just like this one comes with the [T]op Booster). Maybe do it in the Dantalion’s alternate color scheme which is more dark grey and red to match the Halfcowls. Can you imagine this thing fully armored? I’d be really excited if I could build that. We haven’t gotten anything like that outside of SD since the Neo Zeong.

SD Gundam Ultimate Battle: The Story Summary Part 2
Read Part One if you have no idea what is going on.
This is a continuation of the previous post on SD Gundam Ultimate Battle and follows the third entry that was released a year later.
Tumblr media
The card binder this time is that of Summoner X, one of the characters appearing in this chapter.
The story starts immediately after the previous episode with Knight Unicorn Gundam revealing his true colors.
"FUHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA FINALLY... IT'S COMPLETE! A GOD! WITH THIS STRENGTH, I CAN BECOME GOD!!"
Unicorn summons more Gundams and starts to take control of those he's summoned, now planning on conquering the entire world. As things become dire, a voice echoes out, accompanied by the sounds of Japanese festival drums...
"HOLD IT!"
This is Matsuri Musha Mikoshimaru, a military man from Tenkai said to be one of the strongest.
Tumblr media
Knight Unicorn is impressed that an envoy from "the world above" was sent to combat him, and then equips more armor to make himself stronger in order to fight him.
Mikoshimaru scoffs and summons forth two allies: Vouinlander and Summoner X. Summoner X can also use the summoning magic "Call" and uses it.
Tumblr media
With this, the "Ultimate Battle" once more begins.
Knight Unicorn's strength stuns some of the fighters into them questioning if he is really the same as them, but another one steps forward with an opinion
"No... he's a bit different."
Said fighter is Knight V2. Veterans of my SD Gundam lore posts will recognize him as the past self of Knight Gundam Monogatari's Illusion Emperor Assault Buster. V2 senses unusual magical energy coming from the armor that appears to be controlling the knight and the only option is to shred both of them to pieces.
"W-wait a minute!"
Tumblr media
"So you mean that guy, Unicorn, is being controlled? Then... we gotta save him!"
"Him! How interesting... he's an enemy. We have to defeat him."
Despite this exchange, Knight V2 decides to cooperate with the rest of the group to free Knight Unicorn from the influence of the armor, doing so successfully.
Tumblr media
The armor breaks and something comes out...
Tumblr media
Mikoshimaru: Finally, you show yourself...
Devourer of Spirits, Red Majin Shamblo!
Tumblr media
Red Majin Shamblo had possessed Knight Unicorn with the intention of taking advantage of the absence of the Golden God that protected the Saddrac World to become its new god.
However, due to the destruction of the armor, he was able to take over the Akashic Binder, the device used by Knight Unicorn to summon things from cards.
Tumblr media
With one massive attack, Red Majin Shamblo turns all of the warriors summoned into cards, proclaiming no one can defeat him.
Tumblr media
Things do seem to be dire... and then a solitary voice calls out...
"DON'T GIVE UP!"
"You're... Knight Unicorn!"
Tumblr media
"There's still time! We can seal this guy again!"
"Use this guy!"
Tumblr media
"...is this?!"
"You know how to use this, correct? This time, you're not Red Majin. Use your "true heart"!"
Tumblr media
"My... true heart..."
"CALL! HOLY SWORD EXCALIBUR R!"
Tumblr media
"16 SD Worlds, gather together and make your strength one!"
"WHAT'S THIS!? An Octogram formation!? No, this can't be..."
Tumblr media
"FINAL UNION!!"
Tumblr media
And so the crisis in Lacroa ended. Even with the Akashic Binder being shattered to pieces, Unicorn was able to collect and recall all of the cards that had been spread about using Recall magic.
Mikoshimaru leaves Knight and Unicorn to talk to each other.
"From now on, this world might be attacked by even more threats than this one... however, I believe that you will be able to overcome them. Please take care of this world, Hero of Lacroa."
With that, knight Unicorn leaves and time returns to normal.

Shin SD Gundam Gaiden Knight Gundam Maryuu Zero no Kishiden: Extra Thread
Pretty much this is just like the Kikoushin Densetsu one I did. But there will be a bit extra this time.
Tumblr media
Let's start from the "beginning". Zero's father, Falco Gundam was one of the original members of the Knights of the Round Table. He had a sort of rivalry with King I. One day, he, Conan, and Javor were sent to the region of Granada to investigate strange happenings.
Tumblr media
Said strange happening was a random and intense storm that appeared in Granada. Fuhrer Zatarion from the Command Chronicles series also appeared, forcing Conan to remember that he's Command Gundam. Conan and Javor protect Zero while Falco engages Zatarion with Dragoon.
Tumblr media
In the end, Zatarion took massive damage, but Falco was out of strength. Conan/Commando goes after Zatarion, never to return. Falco gives Zero the Thunder Sword and tells him to escape from the storm with Javor. Around this time, the Illusion Emperor reveals himself and captures Falco.
Tumblr media
Turns out that the Illusion Emperor had attached himself to Javor beforehand. Weakened and unarmed, Falco had no chance and was easily overwhelmed. He was later turned into Vice Gundam and the remaining parts of Zatarion that had broken off during their battle were used to make his Machine Soldier.
Tumblr media
"You'll be living alone from now on, but this Thunder Sword will guide you..."
Ultimately, the young Zero was the only one left standing when the storm cleared.
"Where...do I go? What...do I do? *sob* FATHER!!!"
Tumblr media
This next part covers the GB game. Despite being directly given the sword, Zero cannot properly use it yet. This is because the Thunder Clan laws emphasize the power of oneself and has several candidates fight for the position of "Inheritor". In this case, there are three others.
Tumblr media
These three candidates are Knight Sandias, Knight Mezaldan, and Knight V-Square. Zero battles each candidate 1v1. The loser has whatever skills they've acquired to that point sealed.
To put it bluntly, Sandias and Mezaldan are... kinda assholes and V-Square is the only one of them who is actually a good person.
Zero beats Sandias and Mezaldan, but then he takes on V-Square…and loses.
Tumblr media
However, it turns out that the "Inheritor" is not the one who wins the battle, but the one who the Thunder Sword chooses. This is because the system apparently chooses the one whose genetic makeup closely matches the original clan's founder, Draguna Sieg. (I think?)
Tumblr media
As a result, Zero becomes the successor and V-Square is rejected.
However, V-Square has the most hilariously chill reaction to being rejected as a legendary successor and becomes the priest of the Thunder Clan.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mecha Basis + Lore
Interestingly, Zero Gundam himself is currently the only SD Gundam protag to not be based on a Gundam, but is instead based on the Showkew from Victory Gundam. Knight Victory and V-Square instead are based on the protag unit of Victory (Victory and V2 accordingly).
Tumblr media
This segways into our next subject, the Illusion Emperor.
It's not mentioned in the manga, but his full name is Illusion Emperor Assault Buster. Yup, as in V2 Gundam Assault Buster. This is the only case in SD Gundam where an enemy MS is the hero and the hero's MS is the villain.
Tumblr media
Apparently, the reason for this is the crew was forbidden from making Victory's MSs SD until the latter half of the series. They used hidden bases, but didn't go all-out until later.
Star Wars and Fist of the North Star were also used as inspiration for the work. Which means, yes, Vice Gundam is a Darth Vader reference.
Tumblr media
Back to Assault Buster, his original identity was Knight V2, the heir to the Storm Sword. Unlike the Thunder Clan, the Storm Clan places emphasis on fighting together, which is why there are multiple Inheritors that exist at once. The current one has the title "Storm Commander".
Tumblr media
While he was the Storm Commander, Knight V2 was described as powerful and full of ambition. However, he one day suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Falco Gundam, which utterly shattered his heart.
This lead him to obsess over becoming more powerful…
Tumblr media
This eventually lead him into the mirror world, where he met the Zanscare Clan. In exchange for joining with the Zanscare Clan, Knight V2 was given immense power and became Illusion Emperor Assault Buster.
And became utterly horrifying in the process.
Tumblr media
Similarly to Kikoushin Densetsu, Knight Gundam Monogatari also uses non-Gundam bases for some of its mechs. For example, Knight Victory's machine soldier is based on Galient (from Panzer World Galient) and Beast King GoLion (from GoLion).
Tumblr media
Metanall is based on Azolba Zee from Panzer World Galient.
Epco 94 is based on Vega from Genma Wars.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While never scene in the manga, V-Square's machine soldier, Sky Paladin, is based on Wingal Zee from Panzer World Galient.
Tumblr media
Cameo in Gundam Build Fighters Try
Most English-speakers probably recognize Zero Gundam from episode 12 of Gundam Build Fighters Try, "Fly to the Future" as a Gunpla used by Lady Kawaguchi.
There are actually a few small references to Knight Gundam Monogatari in this episode.
(Yes, I know this same episode also has a few SD Gundam Force references in its impact frames due to the series having its 10th Anniversary, but this is a Knight Gundam Monogatari Thread, not a SD Gundam Force Thread)
Tumblr media
To start off… When Lady Kawaguchi first shows off Zero in the episode, he is wearing a cloak. This is likely a reference to one of the Arc 1 Prologue cards for Knight Gundam Monogatari.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
MARYUU AWAKEN!!
Did you happen to catch something? Like did you see something? Don't worry, we'll go into that.
Tumblr media
It's Mars Dragoon! There is an impact frame of Mars Dragoon!!
Tumblr media
While not exact wording, before finishing off Fumina's Winning Gundam, Lady Kawaguchi even references Zero Gundam's catchphrase, "Return to "zero"!" (“無”(ゼロ)に帰れ!, "zero" ni kaere!).
Here, she says "Zero ni kaerinasai!", which is a more feminine version of the phrase.
Tumblr media
After finishing off Winning Gundam, there is one more impact frame. This one has Zero's father, Falco Gundam, in his Holy Dragon Knight form. This is the form he fought Zatarion in, actually. You can see this scene in motion below.
