First, I want to thank those that came forward with their comments about what seems to have happened with Rebecca and the Mission franchise. I've had thoughts on it myself but didn't want to say anything. I was stunned when I saw DR1. Why did they choose that course for her character? After reading tons of articles (hoping one would reveal she'd be in part 2) and watching her interviews after the release, the impression I got was that she was disappointed but didn't know why.

Hi! Thank you for your thoughts on this, you can always share here with us and other fans. I agree with you on that I think Rebecca took up producing to have more creative control over her storylines/stories/characters she is portraying. In 2017 Flaunt magazine her answer was this:

"I’ve read scripts, I’ve been given production opportunities, but it’s a very active choice,” she answers thoughtfully. “As soon as you throw yourself into producing you are working 200% with something. At the moment I’m promoting two films, I’m shooting two films at the same time, and I’m trying to be there for my son. I don’t even know how I would do that, on top of producing. As a mother I say no. As ‘Rebecca Creative,’ I’d like to, someday. I’d really like to.”

This is her thoughts on producing when she was promoting Silo in April 2023 (from screenrent interview)

"Graham Yost, the line producer said, I want to offer you the possibility of being more creative. And I've never done that. I had come to a point where I felt, we always have to trust people in this world where we do what we can do best. But you know, they can edit whatever they want later, so you have no power. I don't have power over this.

But I can learn, and I can be in the rooms and I have the right to be a part of it. And they listen. So, I'm learning to be a producer. That's basically what I want to do. But that hat is off, and I act."

Signed up for Silo while she was shooting DR1 or sometime after she finished, we can't say for sure, but it does seem there was a shift in her line of thoughts on being more in control of the narrative sometime around the time she was shooting DR1.
