Where the Mischief Comes From When attention to the present moment falters and we drift into some version of 'I have to have it my way,' a gap is created in our awareness of reality as it is, right now. Into that gap pours all the mischief of our life. We create gap after gap after gap, all day long. The point of practice is to close those gaps, to reduce the amount of time that we spend being absent, caught in our self-centered dream. - Charlotte Joko Beck, "Attention Means Attention" #Satipațțhāna (at New Haven Zen Center) https://www.instagram.com/p/CjsIjieuGdO/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

โปรดให้มีสติในการบริโภคข่าวสาร.. สติ และ สามัณสำนึก สำคัณที่สุด.. .. .. SATI : should be understood as what allows awareness of the full range and extent of dhammas; sati is an awareness of things in relation to things, and hence an awareness of their relative value. Applied to the satipațțhānas, presumably what this means is that sati is what causes the practitioner of yoga to "remember" that any feeling he may experience exists in relation to a whole variety or world of feelings that may be skillful or unskillful, with faults or faultless, relatively inferior or refined, dark or pure .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. #kris #flyerkris #krisjourney #kristravel #kristraveltheworld #krisventures #krisventurez #crosstobefree #Andaman #gay #gaycation #gayfriendlyhotel #gayholiday #gayguide #gaytravel #gaysian #gaystagram #gothaibefree #instagay #lgbt #lovetoroam #opentothenewshades #staycation #sologaytraveller #Thailand #traveltheworld #vagaytion #wanderlust #wandergay 🏳️‍🌈 (at เขาหลัก จ.พังงา) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9syDxuhykq/?igshid=173s6jr3nhz55

Seeing Possibility in Suffering Being intolerant of suffering, in the Buddhist sense, does not mean that we reject it or fight against it. It means that we stop and look at it, not morbidly, but with faith in the possibility of living a joyful and peaceful life. — Gil Fronsdal, "Living Two Traditions" (Photo: Lake Tahoe, California, May 2014) #Satipațțhāna #Maitri #Metta #Karuna #Mudita #Upekkha https://www.instagram.com/p/ClWJkMNrqLp/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The Four Foundations of Mindfulness "Mindfulness is not particularly religious; it is not even a practice. It is a natural behavior that one begins to develop in a very simple manner. At the beginning, you may feel it is somewhat false or that you are making it up. However, as you go on, mindfulness becomes natural and real, and at the same time very personal." - Chögyam Trungpa, "The Profound Treasury of the Ocean of Dharma (v1): The Path of Individual Liberation" #Satipațțhāna (at New Haven Zen Center) https://www.instagram.com/p/CkLOmRMLI_6/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

According to the Buddha, when you are being mindful, walking is mindful, talking is mindful, breathing is mindful, feeling is mindful, hearing is mindful, sensation is mindful. Mindfulness is not regarded as a tax on your sense perceptions. You don’t need to work harder to feel more than you usually feel, or to hear more than you usually hear. Rather, mindfulness is extra bliss. I am not trying to make a sales pitch for mindfulness, but it is somewhat joyful. You realize that you could be so uplifted by being mindful. You begin to feel very good that you could rise beyond your regular, ordinary struggles, which don’t require awareness, but give you tremendous pain, misery, and mindlessness. - Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, "The Path of Individual Liberation: The Profound Treasury of the Ocean of Dharma, Volume One" #Satipațțhāna (at New Haven Zen Center) https://www.instagram.com/p/CfoVTFEr4eQ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

A basic truth about mindfulness practice: Realizing that one has not been mindful is the opportunity to be present again. Use these moments to become mindful again and be grateful for the ability to see it. Don't judge... just notice, then you are back in the moment again. — Tsültrim Pawo #Satipațțhāna (at New Haven Zen Center) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ch1ynoDO_mB/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Understanding Relapse Mindfulness (Pāli: "satipaṭṭhāna) is a powerful antidote to the mechanism of relapse. By observing the process of the mind, one can notice that habitual patterns fueled by disturbing emotions (e.g. greed/passion, hatred/aggression, delusion/ignorance) is a very speedy phenomenon. The tremendous good news is that mindfulness can be roused by practicing samatha (Pāli)/shamatha (Sanskrit) which means "development of peace". Shamatha-Vipashyana meditation rouses clarity and slows down the speediness of the mind. This combined with an attitude of curiosity and gentle compassion gives rise to insight and allows for the possibility that one can choose renunciation and rouse generosity, discipline, patience, diligence and motivation to employ the Eightfold Path and always remember the Three Jewels. This is very good news! ❤ #RecoveryIsPossible #RecoveryDharma #Buddha #Dharma #Dhamma #Sangha #Recover #Recovery #Satipațțhāna (at New Haven Zen Center) https://www.instagram.com/p/CfjDF6fOm5s/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Unraveling Desire The truth is that we like our preferences and prejudices, we like defining ourselves in terms of what we like and don’t like. It is precisely desire’s entanglement with the sense of self that makes this all so difficult to unravel. Fortunately, there is a relatively easy and accessible way to counter the powerful forces of desire: the cultivation of equanimity. Every moment of mindfulness is also a moment of equanimity. — Andrew Olendzki, "The Buddha's Smile" #Satipațțhāna #Upekkha (at New Haven Zen Center) https://www.instagram.com/p/CjDC6FaONpd/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
