anyone else find it a little fucked up that gifsets/edits only get more than 1k notes if they’re concerning a brand new piece of media (film/tv episode/trailer) and if the edit is posted within like 10 minutes of said media releasing to the public??? and if it’s not, it’s basically ignored and dies or takes days/weeks to amass notes??? so most people will only deem creators “worthy” of a like/reblog to spread an edit around if it’s only relevant to whatever brand new thing has released, and if you’re even like a week late that’s not good enough and fuck you <3

#and up until like a year or two ago this wasn't a problem #like i know people are on this site because gifsets for new shows like wednesday get thousands of notes #once that show's episodes drop #but a week later no one cares #something something our society only favors expediency over actual art and discussion #idk i'm just losing motivation bc it sucks that i have so many followers which took years to get to #and most of you won't even reblog/like my edits that i take hours to make for you #but you're all too happy to steal them and repost them when it suits you #just needed to vent #sameera.txt

last year staff tried to convert all gifs to fucking low quality mp4s. this year they’re trying to force gifmakers to only use the beta editor, which seems to ignore the 10 mb limit, lowers the quality and essentially crams gifs into a text post. really just goes to show how little they care about creators on their creator-dominated site.

#this is only in the last 2 years!!!! i have been giffing for ~6 and you better fucking bet that this is just the latest in a long line #of staff's attempts to fuck over gifmakers for zero reason #i am so fed up #between this and like the embarassingly low levels of engagement and acknowledgement when i post gifs #and the fact that im like. busy. with life. #stepping away from gifmaking becomes more and more appealing bc i dont have the time and energy for bullshit #staff fr going so far out of their way to fuck with gifmakers and drive them off the site it's bizarre #sameera.txt

idk if this makes sense. but i kind of love that the last of us makes me cry and viscerally FEEL true emotions on a weekly basis. like i cant remember the last tv show i watched that had me consistently bawling my eyes out and so immersed in a show because of the characters, the story, the incredibly strong writing, etc. and it doesn't feel manipulative. it just feels profound and beautiful and poetic but also tragic and... human.

#it's a whole spectrum of emotion!!! it's beautifully tragically human!!!! is that not what it is to exist!!!! #and it's therapeutic honestly. to spend like an hour in a world that isnt real but that you can relate aspects of your life to. #and you can just connect to these characters and their experiences and release the emotions that have been building up inside. #i'm sure that if you've played the game you feel this all the more strongly #but as someone who hasn't and went into tlou without prior knowledge #i'm just very pleased with it and idk i love watching a show that can elicit such a strong reaction from me #granted i AM what people would call 'sensitive' and 'emotional' or whatever #but even for me i dont think i've felt quite this intensely about a show - especially not right away during a first season #these are just my half baked thoughts and i definitely could say so much more but i'll leave it here for now #sameera.txt #the last of us

gif/gifv vs mp4

to those saying that tumblr’s decision to begin converting gif/gifv to mp4 will not significantly impact quality, here’s a side by side comparison to prove you wrong.

here’s what a normal gif (made using photoshop, sharpened and colored, dimensions are 540x615px) looks like on the tumblr dashboard:

if you’re a content creator, the difference is very very significant, even more so when zooming in. people who claim otherwise should maybe consider listening to gif makers who actually... create gifs??? and have a process??? that takes time and energy as it is??? and all of that will be completely undone if staff decides to implement this change sitewide. it will worsen the quality of gifs even more. it will drive content creators away from the site for good.

rather than argue to the contrary, please continue to do what you can to support creators and bring this to staff’s attention.

semi-hiatus due to major health issues

TLDR; i am on the path towards getting a very major surgery for a progressive disease i've unknowingly had since adolescence (condylar resorption) that causes irreversible bone loss and osteoarthritis in the jaw, as well as severe facial deformities. i'm going on semi-hiatus while i await next steps so i can eventually get surgery and recover, which will take about 1-2 years in total.

i recently learned i have condylar resorption (CR), a degenerative joint disease that results in gradual bone loss/destruction of the mandibular condyles, which are a part of the jaw's temporomandibular joints (TMJs). i also suspect i have a connective tissue disorder, hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS), which is strongly linked to CR. both have gone undiagnosed since i first started having symptoms 10 years ago when i was 11 years old. CR has irregular periods of activity, remission/inactivity, and reactivity. its progression picks up from where it left off and cannot be stopped. my disease is currently at stage 4-5 out of 5. i am in constant unbearable pain and cannot function.

there are no words to describe just how debilitating CR is all day, every day. i cannot breathe, eat, talk, laugh, sleep, or exist without pain, instability, and discomfort. the disease and the joints affected by it are very complex and misunderstood by most doctors/surgeons, so getting a proper diagnosis is challenging. i've had to do so much research and self-advocacy to combat medical gaslighting. i've already lost years of my life to worsening pain/dysfunction and facial changes that went ignored.

the only guaranteed successful/stable option in my case is a bilateral total joint replacement (removing both TMJs and replacing them with metal prosthetics) along with upper jaw surgery. this is a majorly invasive procedure that is 7-9+ hours long with a 6-12 month recovery period. prior to surgery, i have to be back in braces for ~6 months; so the entire process from now to recovery is 1-2 years.

i'm going on a tentative semi-hiatus in the meanwhile. i will still regularly check my tracked tag (#usersameera), but won't post original gifsets as often. i might post personal updates from time to time. i really hope that in the near future i'll be pain-free, functional, and more present in my own life.

hey. turns out i likely have idiopathic condylar resorption, a degenerative joint disease that causes progressive/rapid bone loss in the jaw. i've had it since i was a kid but went undiagnosed for over a decade; my severe functional issues, pain, and other symptoms were repeatedly dismissed by doctors for years. my mandibular condyles have deteriorated, my jaw is slowly shrinking to the point where i look unrecognizable, and none of my teeth touch anymore. the pain is increasing more and more by the day. it's extremely difficult to breathe, eat, talk, sleep, and exist.

this is a progressive condition, so nothing will stop it or slow it down until the joints have been completely eaten away. my only option is a total temporomandibular joint replacement, where the two diseased joints that literally hold my face together are removed and permanently replaced with metal prostheses. aka a major surgery with a 6-12 month recovery 😃

#basically my face is disappearing because my body is attacking itself which has been really Fun to experience #i've had this disease since i was like 10 but only found out after doing my own research because most dentists/orthos don't know about it #i always knew something was really wrong and that my pain/ facial changes were not normal and getting worse #so it's both relieving and frustrating to *finally* be taken seriously #but yeah i'm having a lot of emotions about this and it's been really tough to process #getting major jaw surgery was not how i thought i'd be spending my early 20s but deep down i knew i would have to do it eventually #better than being in chronic pain for the rest of my life for sure #and if i wait any longer i risk severe deterioration/unsalvageable bone loss and total airway collapse in the future #sameera.txt

question for fellow gifmakers who use a macbook: what software are you using to screencap 1080p files now that the older version of mpv (that doesn't duplicate/skip frames) is no longer compatible with macos sonoma?

#i usually only cap/gif 2160p files using mpv but i can't cap 1080p files at all rn because of this and it's bumming me out #i used to have 2 versions of mpv installed on my macbook but now the older version doesn't work with the new macos update #and the newer one STILL duplicates frames on 1080p #ive tried iina but you can't take continuous caps with that afaik #and i'd prefer to not video record with vlc if i can help it so... #if anyone has any advice or workarounds lmk <3 #sameera.txt

hi everyone!!! i’ve noticed that lately i’ve been struggling with motivation to gif, and generally have been fairly inactive on here and i really want to try to overcome that and start posting more often again. so to celebrate the holiday season and appreciate my followers/mutuals for all of the love and support i’ve received in the past year, i thought i’d do something fun to help engage more with you all and give myself some ideas for gifsets.

with phase 4 of the mcu over, i thought it would be cool to make a poll and let you guys vote for your favorite characters in the phase. (i tried to include as many characters as possible, but i did omit some minor characters and characters that only appear in a post-credits scene.) once voting ends on friday december 23rd, i’ll make a gifset for each of the top 15 results!!!
