you’re probably not aware of this fact, because you don’t give a shit about all the russians except tyoma, who are not russian, but russia u21 was called a dream team and devoted fans were rooting for it very hard but the team fucked up. every russian football young talent, strong ambassador or big hope is nothing internationally. russia is not a football powerhouse, just admit it and calm the fuck down.
why do you care what i think about russian football? telling me to 'calm the fuck down' is really rude. my opinions about russian football aren't harming you in any way. just don't read my blog if you think it's stupid.

How our Players Performed on International Duty via /r/LiverpoolFC
How our Players Performed on International Duty
Match Reports
Caoihmin Kelleher (3,442 miles travelled)
(Bulgaria v Republic of Ireland)
He stayed on the bench during a 1-1 draw.
(Republic of Ireland v Finland)
He didn't appear off the bench in a 0-1 loss.
Kamil Grabara (2,902 miles travelled)
(Estonia U21 v Poland U21)
He didn't feature as he suffered a head injury before the game in a 6-0 win for Poland.
(Poland U21 v Russia U21)
He didn't appear in the 1-0 victory due to the head injury he suffered a few days ago, which gave him a chance to catch up on his reading.
Virgil Van Dijk (780 miles travelled)
(Netherlands v Poland)
A classic game for Virgil in a 1-0 victory. He distributed the ball well, played his role as captain well by moaning at the ref any chance he got, and was unlucky not to score a header from a set-piece. He also defended extremely well, not giving Piatek or Milik an inch, especially the former for the first half an hour, despite being fouled several times by him.
(Netherlands v Italy)
An average game for Virgil in a game which Italy neutralised The Netherlands. He was unlucky not to get his head on the ball from on a offensive set-piece. Some could say he was was at blame for the only goal in the game, but Ake failed to track Barella's run and Barella ran in between Virgil and Ake.
Joe Gomez (3,334 miles travelled)
(Iceland v England)
This was quite a quiet game excluding one incident for Joe. Iceland rarely entered the England half so Gomez didn't have much to do defensively and distributed the ball fairly well. In the 92nd minute Joe brought down an Icelandic player on the edge of the box after pulling him back and a tangle of legs. Luckily for him the penalty was missed and the game ended 1-0.
(Denmark v England)
He redeemed himself in this game. He played the full 90' in the 0-0 draw and was quite solid defensively against the Danish attackers. He also made some runs into the opposition half and played some long balls which met their mark.
Kostas Tsimikas (4,104 miles travelled)
(Slovenia v Greece)
He didn't feature due to a 'slight fever' in a goalless draw.
(Kosovo v Greece)
He didn't feature in the 2-1 win after reportedly testing positive for COVID-19.
Andrew Robertson (2,234 miles travelled)
(Scotland v Israel)
From all accounts, this game wasn't a very good one for Robbo. He played the full 90' in a 1-1 draw and put a good ball in the 88th minute but apart from that he was not involved in anything noticeable.
(Czech Republic v Scotland)
Robbo had quite a silent game in terms of his "visibility", however couple good passes, one was vital, great transition to Palmer who got the assist before Scottish equalizer. Earned a penalty as well, although it was quite soft. He made some good runs forward, and was booked for kicking the ball away in the second half.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (3,334 miles travelled)
(Iceland v England)
He came on for Sancho in the 73' as Kyle Walker was sent off a few minutes before and played an interesting role. He mainly played in his usual position but drifted into the attacking midfield position and at points joined the front line on the right wing, linking up with Greenwood. He also delivered the corner that led to the penalty which won England the game.
(Denmark v England)
Trent was one of England's main attacking outlets in a game in which England looked lacklustre in attempting to break down the Danish. He looked sharper, and was unlucky not to have one of his crosses reach an England head. He was brought off in the 87' for Maitland-Niles.
Neco Williams (2,776 miles travelled)
(Wales v Finland)
He came on in the 60th minute and had quite a positive first team debut for Wales. He played a very attacking role, featuring in the right wing at points, and was ready to slot in the ball if Kiefer Moore didn't tap in Dan James' cross. Furthermore Neco he made a good run into the box in the 85', went past a Finnish defender but failed to finish, putting the ball wide. Overall he was quite heavily involved on both sides of the pitch; a good performance.
(Bulgaria v Wales)
Neco Williams made the difference for Wales against a low block Bulgarian defence. He came on inthe 65th minute and initially looked slightly iffy defensively but he gained confidence as the game went on and looked much better at the back than he did against Arsenal. Going forward he had a positive impact on the Welsh attack, and made a great run to be on the end of Jonny Williams' cross in 94' to finally break the deadlock. A great boost to his confidence, a great first international goal and overall a great home debut.
Georginio Wijnaldum (780 miles travelled)
(Netherlands v Poland)
A rather quiet game compared to what Gini normally puts out for The Netherlands. He played the full 90' in a more attacking role ahead of De Roon and De Jong, acting as a second striker at times. He grew into the game, linking up with Dumfries, Promes and Depay better in the second half but failed to be involved in any real chances during the 1-0 win.
(Netherlands v Italy)
This was quite a lacklustre game for Gini, which could be blamed by the fact he was played out of position as a de facto right winger. He clearly struggled for the first 55' before Bergwijn came on as he drifted into midfield often and didn't really support Hateboer at full back. He had one opportunity in which he had a shot which went straight into Donnarumma's gloves. Italy mainly frustrated him, which led to his booking for dissent.
Marko Gruijc (4,538 miles travelled)
(Russia v Serbia)
He stayed on the bench in a 3-1 loss to Russia.
(Serbia v Turkey)
He stayed on the bench in a 0-0 draw.
Ben Woodburn (2,776 miles travelled)
(Wales v Finland)
He stayed on the bench in a 1-0 win for Wales.
(Bulgaria v Wales)
He didn't make the matchday squad in a 1-0 win for Wales.
Harry Wilson (2,776 miles travelled)
(Wales v Finland)
He came on at half time for Gareth Bale who went off injured but failed to properly make an impact, partly due to the fact he was fouled several times. He wasn't involved in the goal either in what was a mediocre game for Wales.
(Bulgaria v Wales)
He didn't appear off the bench in a 1-0 win for Wales.
Rhian Brewster (2,719 miles travelled)
(Kosovo U21 v England U21)
He came on in the 85th minute in the 6-0 win but didn't make much of an impact.
(Austria U21 v England U21)
He only had 3 touches after coming on with 10 minutes to go so didn't make much of a mark on the 2-1 win.
Injuries on International Duty
Kamil Grabara- He isn't playing against Estonia U21s due to a head injury.
Kostas Tsimikas- Greek media reporting he has COVID-19 after being left out of the Slovenia game with a 'slight fever'.

Translation Throwback Series (Part I): Julian Brandt Interview with 11 Freunde (October 2, 2015)
I decided to make some sort of series and translate interviews Julian did many years ago. This is from 11 Freunde football magazine in October 2015 just back when he started his second full season at Bayer Leverkusen.
Tumblr media
Julian Brandt, four years ago you kicked in the youth of the small Bremen club of FC Oberneuland. Now you are under contract with Bayer Leverkusen, playing Champions League and having 23,500 followers on Instagram. Do you sometimes have to pinch yourself?
Ju:       This was common in at the beginning in Leverkusen. I was thrown into the cold water quickly shortly after I transferd to Leverkusen in January 2014. A few weeks later I made my first Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain and in April I scored my first goal in the Bundesliga against Hamburg. Suddently your friends start sending you newspaper articles about you or you see yourself on SKY television. That was exciting of course. It’s getting better now, but sometimes still think „This is a dream!“.
When did you first start dreaming of becoming a professional football player?
Ju:       I was still young, I think six or seven years old. As a boy from Bremen, I sympathized with Werder. And when I was in the stadium for the first time with my dad, I thought, “It would be cool if I could play down there!”
When Werder Bremen won the championship the last time in 2004, you were eight years old. Who was your idol: Johan Micoud or Ailton?
Ju:       Neither. My hero’s was Diego. Every season I had a jersey with his name on. He is a great player. It was all the more exciting when I later switched to the youth of VfL Wolfsburg and trained with him a few times.
Where you still able to play a decent ball without being nervous?
Ju:       I was not afraid, but I had huge respect. I also realized at that moment, the big steps I did the years before. I was just standing in the fan curve and now I got instructions from my childhood idol how to run on the pitch.
You started playing at SC Borgfeld. Did you already have scouts and agents on the sidelines?
Ju:       That started a little later. One day we switched to FC Oberneuland, we had a great team and sometimes played against youth teams from the Bundesliga like Werder Bremen – and we won. Some agents knocked on our door, but that was never a big topic for me.
Why not?
Ju:       I’ve never had the need for an agent before. My dad organizes everything for me.
What’s it like being managed by your own father?
Ju:       For one, I like the family climate. On the other hand, he also works very professionally. And of course we sometimes argue. But for me it’s a very good mix.
You transfered from FC Oberneuland in 2011 to the youth academy of VfL Wolfsburg at the age of 15. How did you discuss this with your family?
Ju:       It was a difficult decision. From the parents away in a sports academy and school. But everything went very quick. When Wolfsburg put forward the offer, I simply listened to my gut feeling. And my parents immediately said, “If you’re up for it, do it.” And it also had its good apart from football: I learned to do my own laundry. (laughs)
How did your daily routines change?
Ju:       You train a lot more often, eat more controlled and you have to learn to become more professional. This includes the school as an important aspect of the academy.
After two successful years at the Wolfsburg youth academy you moved to Leverkusen in January 2014 and signed your first professional contract. Do you remember the moment and realized: “I’m going to be a professional football player”?
Ju:       It doesn’t mean that you are a professional just because you sign a professional contract. My teammate Lars Bender once said, “You’re not a real professional until you’ve played 50 Bundesliga games.” I think there is some truth in it. Of one or two short substitutions during a game you have nothing.
After all, you have been in the starting eleven, three times this season and scored two goals. You will come up with six league inserts in total and three games in the Champions League. Can we call you a regular player?
Ju:       No, for God’s sake! It’s going well at the moment, but I’m still away from being a regular player. Ask me in a year again.
Do you have someone from the Leverkusen team who has taken you under his wing? A mentor?
Ju:       There are some guys, yes. Last season, for example, it was Simon Rolfes, who took great care of me.
You became European champion with the U19 last year. In 2018, you would be 22 years old. A good age to play at the World Cup in Russia, right?
Ju:       You can always dream. But talking about something like this is the wrong path to go if I’m not regularly in the starting lineup in Leverkusen. In addition, there are still three years until 2018, which is a long time, and ultimately I have with the U21 team still the Olympic tournament ahead.
Hannovers Dieter Schatzschneider praised your great speed and excellent talent with both feet. You described your defensive skills as “playing like a bratwurst”. Has it gotten better now?
Ju:       (Laughs) Yeah, that’s gotten a little better. But I have the best opportunities here to work on it. I work with the  assistent trainer and do different exercises, depending on what needs additional training. It all happens very relaxed and spontaneous. At the moment, for example, I’m working on my shooting skills, which I’m not really happy with yet.
Julian Brandt, during the game against Bayern, Douglas Costa has tricked you with the so-called „Okocha trick“. Arjen Robben said after the game it was disrespectful against you. How did you see that?
Ju:       That was not a big issue for me, and I’m not mad at Costa either. It’s football, and if the boys have such tricks on them, let them do it. One can say that I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. You can not do anything in the situation because you expect everything, but not that. In the end, I’m grateful to Lars (Bender) for getting the ball right afterwads and not giving all the glory to Costa. (Laughs.)

My Super Cup ❤️
Your team lifting the cup in your hometown, your favourite player scoring the winning goal (true golazo, so our banner was on point) and waving to you during the celebration, fans singing together and congratulating each other – what a night to remember.
Photos inside. Videos of our special moments can be watched here and are numbered 1–4 in the text.
Tickets
I was surprised when Tallinn got the right to host the UEFA Super Cup, because our stadium is really small (back then it had 10000 seats). In preparation for the match, the stadium's capacity was increased to 15000 seats, but a couple of thousands of tickets were given to the media, guests etc. So imagine the stress when there is 7–10 times more fans that the tickets. Me and @sashosasho applied for the tickets via UEFA lottery system… and our application was not successful. It hurt, it really did – seeing your dreams breaking and having no clue what to do next. I was begging the higher powers to at least give me a hint.
And then it happened. Two weeks later I got an email from UEFA with the second chance code for the tickets. These tickets were for seats with a slightly restricted view and were sold on a first come, first served basis. I read the email half an hour after receiving it, so my hands were shaking. I tried to add any tickets to the basket (actually we wanted 3) and after 20 minutes somehow managed to add one… It wasn’t possible to go back without losing it, so I decided to buy it and hope for more tickets later. The second chance was already a miracle because very few people got that e-mail. But I really needed that miracle.
Sasha was also very lucky to buy his ticket at the official resale (people could return the tickets during a short period of time if they didn’t need them anymore), but we didn’t manage to get the third ticket for our friend who was coming to Tallinn at the same time. So me buying that one ticket before turned out to be a right decision.
Team arrival
We decided to greet the team at the hotel entrance because it was very likely that they would go to the bus straight from the plane (and they did). We were among the last ones to press into the first row. Atleti’s and other club’s hotels were only 100 m from each other, so there were a lot of youngsters running back and force. When the team arrived, the crowd went crazy. When we called Saul and he saw us with the banner, the smile spread across his face and he waved to us (video 1).
Tumblr media
The journalists asked us to pose for a photo with the other fans. Since the other team was arriving later, the biggest part of the crowd ran there.
Tumblr media
Atleti fans were in a merry mood and started to sing. Cerezo also wanted to have a photo.
Tumblr media
Marca knows how to choose the highlights.
Tumblr media
The second bus with the staff members came a bit later. Atleti’s IG manager saw our banner and came to ask about the meaning of Saulazo. I explained that it was because of his golazos and she liked the idea. She took a moving photo for Atleti’s IG story and promised that Saul would see it. Not only did he see it, but he also reposted it to his story.
Tumblr media
It was really really heartwarming and emotional. And he also saved it to the highlights (the last story in Pretemporada)!
The funny thing is that we got so overwhelmed when Saul waved to us that we totally missed Antoine. We were sure he would arrive later and kept on waiting (Saul once arrived more than an hour later than the other U21 members because of doping control and interviews). Of course Antoine was already in the hotel, but we got a chance to take a photo with Mono Burgos.
Tumblr media
Before and after the training
We went to the hotel again. When the team was going to the training, I called Saul...
Tumblr media
...and he gave the sign that could only mean one thing – on the way back (video 2). I couldn’t believe my eyes. Did Saul just promise to come back?!
Tumblr media
And he did. He went straight to us and signed my card (video 3).
Tumblr media
Then he looked at the crowd, asked my marker back and gave quite a lot of autographs.
Tumblr media
Since I was the closest one, I helped to hold some albums from the second row. I have no idea how did I find the courage, but when Saul gave the marker back, I asked him to take a selfie with us (we couldn’t do it ourselves in the crowd).
Tumblr media
He took the phone and here is the most beautiful selfie in the world.
Tumblr media
This felt and still feels unreal.
Filipe and Rodri also stopped to give some autographs and a lot of other players waved to the fans. The fans came from all over the world – we talked to fans from Spain, Switzerland and Hong Kong. The atmosphere was really friendly and pleasant.
Tallinn is rojiblanco
In the match day morning we went to the official fan zone to take some photos with the cups.
Tumblr media
We sang with the Spanish fans for some TV channel once again and also met Atleti fans from Russia that had known me from the internet. Some Estonian kids whispered: “Look, here are the Saul ones from the hotel. They must be some relatives.” We proudly marched with the Saulazo banner through the old center. Tallinn was totally rojiblanco. Atleti sold all the tickets that were meant for the socios, while the other club returned some. And Atleti fans were definitely more visible, singing, greeting each other and taking photos. Later a lot of local people said that they were amazed by the Atleti fans. The other club fans’ meeting point was at the Town Hall Square and ours was near the gates of the Old Town. First I thought that they got the coolest one, but ours turned out to be a lot better – there were benches to sit and places to hang the banners and more people were passing it by. We hung out there for some time, because the atmosphere was just amazing. Theo Griezmann was sitting in front of us and eating some McDonald’s hamburger.
The match
Tumblr media
We were not sitting together, so we agreed to check our seats and then see if we could hang out together before the match. But instead of climbing my sector I somehow found myself checking if it was possible to enter the closest sector to the warm up. It was, I called Sasha and we went there. The staff put agility ladders just in front of us, so we could see the whole team train really close. The pitch entrance is located on the short side of the stadium and it was Atleti’s side. Imagine the greeting the other team got. When the warm up ended, we were asked to go to our seats which turned out to be some really good ones. Mine was on the top of the central VIP sector and here is the “restricted view”.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once I took my seat, I realized how big was the occasion and I was there and had a chance to witness it. The early goal was fun, but then the game got really intense. When Saul scored that winning goal, I went crazy. I got a message from our friend, who didn’t get a ticket and watched the game at home with my mom. It said “Sauuuuuuuuuuuuul” and I replied with “Saulazo!!!!!!!!” Sasha was sitting in the sixth row of the short side and it was exactly where Saul made the archer celebration. After Koke’s goal we decided to meet during the break and then go to my sector (there was a free seat near the post), because it seemed to be a good place to watch the award ceremony.
Tumblr media
I even managed to catch some confetti that I still keep.
Tumblr media
Then the team went to celebrate the victory with the fans and we went to the same sector where we had watched the warm up. A lot of people had already left so we could easily hold our banner high. The celebration was amazing, the players and the fans were really grateful to each other. Suddenly Saul saw us… and waved to us! We started to jump from happiness (video 4). Very very heartwarming from him again.
It wasn’t possible to catch a taxi near the stadium, so we walked holding the banner and a lot of fans congratulated us and asked for a photo… telling that it was the banner of the night. We couldn’t be more proud.
It was a dream. But dreams come true.
