Vladivostok to Moscow. Picture from a hard day’s ride in Siberia. Traveling along the Trans-Siberian Road between these VERY distant cities 12 years ago, I was able to meet and talk with the average person on a daily basis. Nothing but kind and helpful people. When the discussion turned to politics, the people in Siberia were very displeased with Putin and his illegal ascension to the position of present-day dictator (their words). It appears, from what I am reading, is that tide changed and people are happier with him now. I wonder if that is true? It’s hard to comprehend being from outside Russia and the current war against Ukraine. One thing I can comment on, with authority, was the poverty of the average person and how little they had and how they struggled. Leaving eastern Austria into Bratislava. Today, I rode from #Bratislava to #Budapest, which I have not visited in over 30 years when it was, only a few month’s after the fall of the Berlin Wall the dismantling of the USSR! The city is beautiful with so much history. Checked into my first hotel inside a restored #UNESCO Landmark, the Matild Palace: corner room, three balconies, and view of the Elizabeth Bridge with Pest on the other side of the Danube River. #Irkutsk and Indigenous Peoples: Remembering friendlier times in travel Russia and Siberia! A blast from the past of 12 years ago when traveling across Russia seemed pretty easy. This picture is just when I broke down and my starter gave out — on a fairly new motorcycle. I had the best help anyone could ask for with a friendly motorcycle group who watched my every move - through unofficial channels of communication, put me up in their homes, and shared their passion of motorcycling. In the naval port of Vladivostok, a Russian family is saying goodbye to their son who is going in the navy. It’s hard to believe that it was 12 short years ago when I rode entire distance, from east to west, across all 11 time zones for a distance of over 9,000 miles (5,600 miles), starting in #Vladivostok and riding west! Being on the ground every day, talking to people in all areas, and talking politics on a daily basis, I came away with this: Russia was ripe for another revolution as so many people were dissatisfied with Putin and his illegal office he created to stay in power beyond what the constitution had allowed.
