Curious what you’d do with ”Did it ever occur to you that maybe we don’t want to see you get hurt?”
”Did it ever occur to you that maybe we don’t want to see you get hurt?”
If it's not the first thing he hears coming off anesthesia, it's the first thing that cuts through the fog, though Roy has a sneaking suspicion his sister's been at it for a while.
Roy wakes to lingering nausea, clammy shivers that prick against his skin, and his sister glaring at him from the foot of his bed.
It's weird, seeing Sarah out of scrubs; it's even weirder seeing her with a child held up against her hip. He's still not used to it.
From her perch, his niece watches him intently. Only age two and she's fucking huge, all her soft baby features spilling out into a toddler mould. The bigger she gets, the easier it gets to be to tell what she's thinking. Right now, she may as well be hiding her distress behind a pane of glass.
She waves at him. He waves back. Her arms tighten around her mum as she buries her face in her neck.
Roy's heart thump thump thumps on the monitor.
His hand falls back to the bed. Squinting against the light, he fights against the hot dampness building behind his eyes.
His throat croaks, "Is it bad?"
Sarah sighs. "As bad as the last one? No. But you can't keep tearing your knee up, or pretty soon you won't have a knee!"
She punctuates her statement with a thunderous frown; her eyebrows, similar to his own but just a tad neater, cut across her forehead like bushy lightning bolts.
Still under some sort of drugs, he shrugs off her concern and says, "Eh. I'll buy a new one."
Sarah's eyes narrow dangerously, but Phoebe giggles into her hiding spot. It's almost cheating, that - Phoebe's at the age where she thinks everything Roy says deserves a hearty round of laughter. Already she's wriggling and giggling, simply delighted that Roy's there to string together words, even if they aren't for her.
Can't understand him; thinks he hung the moon.
It tugs at his chest, threatening to unstuck the zipper and unravel him at the seams.
He stretches his arms out. "Can I hold her?"
Sarah thaws. In record time, and in spite of his callousness, he's being gifted a bundle of Phoebe. Curling up against his side, she flings her chubby little arm across his chest and digs her baby fingers into his shirt with an impressively strong grip. She's so big. She weighs nothing. She's so little. She fills up his entire world. Just having her near soothes the thing that lives agitated inside his chest.
She is no danger of accidently knocking his leg about, tiny as she is. As far as he's concerned, she can stay where she is for as long as she likes.
Sarah slides a chair closer to his bed. Sitting down on Phoebe's other side, she strokes her daughter's hair back. Roy gets the impression that she's doing it for herself too. Showing affection doesn't come naturally to either of them. Best to start as small as they come.
They're not that close, him and Sarah, but sometimes it feels like they might be one day.
After a while, Sarah breaks the silence.
"You can't scare her like that," Sarah says, in a tone more serious than he's ever heard from his baby sister -- she doesn't even need to curse to get her point across. Oh, she can swear like the worst of them, but she's better than that. She better than the brother who only knows football and fame and broken teeth. Better than someone who only knows the best ways to break themselves down and still be useful.
She's better than Roy and she's right.
The problem is Roy.
"I'll try," he says, as close to a promise as he can make. His card's already punched; all that's left is to stave off the inevitable for as long as he can until his debt finally gets called up. Until then-
"I'll try."

one of my favorite things about the uncle's day scene is the fact that Jamie 100% only called Roy's sister fit to be a little shit.
Similarly, the only reason Roy hit on Jamie's mum in Mom City was to get revenge for that.

I know jamie x roy's sister isn't a thing, and I don't even know if I would want them to be in canon, but consider this: they are both so fucking hot that seeing them together would make my brain melt

What we need after the season ends is from Jason sudeikies and the rest of the creative team to make a sequel series where 10 have passed and AFC Richmond has a women's league where Phoebe makes her debut as (I don't know what position) and the soccer girl (the one who ted bumps into multiple times in the show and is played be Shannon hayes ) as captain. What's more there could be different storylines tied with the main one like Roy's and Keeley's wedding and then having a baby or Jamie and Roy sister's getting in a relationship ( I hope) or even how our favourite football team interacts with the newbies. Another thing I would adore is from Rebecca to hire a duo of female coaches and them being volleyball players ( Which means that they'll have no idea about football) [ screams in full circle moment]

When Roy woke up it was with his head on the cold tile of his bathroom. Funny as he wasn’t even on the floor of this bathroom when he finally passed out.
“What the fuck happened?” A rasp voice asked from the open door. Roy squinted up and saw his sister glaring down at him with a glass of water in her hand.
He groaned and slowly sat up. “Just a bit of fun, you know how it is, Ruth.” He rolled his shoulders wincing at the loud crack at the motion. He reached up for his sister to help him to his feet, but his efforts were slapped away.
“Don’t give me that bullshit, Roy, this was different,” She looked pissed, Roy realised. Not like the usual disappointment with a hint of fondness. “You know your limits and this was well past them.”
“It was a close win, some of the lads wanted to celebrate.” He shrugged and lifted himself to his feet. “Might’ve gone past my limits a bit,”
“A bit?!” She hissed, her eyes wide. “Roy, if I were not a trained medical professional, you would be dead!” She pulled a hand over her face.
“Why are you here?”
She stared silently at him. “You don’t remember?” Roy looked at her blankly. “You called me,” Her breath hitched. “Roy you were out of it, kept talking about how you’re nothing without football and-”
Roy cut her off with a snort.
“No. You do not get to do this. You didn’t hear yourself.”
“And what am I without football then, huh? It's all I’ve ever known-”
“My brother! You’re my brother no matter what.” Her eyes glistened. “Especially now,” She let out a deep sigh. “I’d hoped you would understand.”
“Especially now? What do you mean?” Roy looked her up and down taking notice of her fratled state. “If that fucker did something to you, I swear-”
“He didn’t do anything, relax.” She rolled her eyes at his antics. “Or well…”
“What?”
“This wasn’t how I wanted you to find out and it’s early, it can change,”
“What’s going on Ruth? Are you dying?”
She rolled her eyes and stood up shaking her head. “I’m pregnant you utter moron.” She swiped her hair away from her face. “‘Are you dying?’” She mocked. “Jeez.”
Roy stared at her with his jaw dropped. “You’re pregnant?”
“Yes,” she nodded.
Roy jumped up and pulled her into a tight hug. “If this is a joke I’ll kill you,” He tightened his arms around her. “And if it’s not, congratulations.”
She giggled into his chest. “Thanks. And definitely not a joke by how many times I’ve thrown up this morning.” She let go of him and took a step back. “You’re gonna be an uncle Roy,” she said, her voice serious. “So you have to stop this,” She waved her hand at him and the floor, where he woke up minutes ago. “Cause I can’t do this without you and,” She shut her eyes tightly. “I’m divorcing him.”
“Good for you,” Roy . “Overdue, but good for you. That wanker can rot in fucking hell for all I care.”She rolled her eyes. “Good to see you’re back.” She pointed a finger at him. “And don’t think this conversation is over 'cause it’s not. You need help Roy, help I can’t give you.” She turned and walked down the stairs leaving Roy in his cold bathroom.

I wonder if Roy’s sister has a fake job she tells people Roy has. Like when she’s making small talk and the person asks what her brother does, does she say he’s like a software engineer? She can’t always say he’s a professional footballer/coach because I’m sure people will ask her a million questions or try to get free stuff from her, so I wonder if she’s got a go to fake job.

WIP Wednesday
Sharing a little snip from my Ted Lasso apocalypse wip, because its soft and its wip Wednesday. The Sarah in the below is Roy's sister.
The first chapter isn't far off being done, so I'm now debating the pros and cons of either posting it or waiting until I have a little bit more completed first.
“How’d you know I was here?” “You’re not as mysterious as you think, Roy.” Sarah says as she takes the seat next to him, leaning into him until he lifts his arm to wrap around her and she rests her head on his shoulder. “You okay?” She asks. “Fine.” He doesn’t expand. She knows him well enough to translate it, what he means is better.

This show, man. It is out to personally get me.
So Roy Kent's sister, who is also the doctor who treated Dr. Sharon back in season 2, is played by Sofia Barclay (Yes, of the tax evading super rich Barclays). Sophia's mother is Farzana Aziz, who is supposedly the daughter of one of the richest men in India but I cannot find out who (alas for the time when google actually gave useful results).
This makes her half South Asian.
Which is what got her cast in We Are Lady Parts as Zarina, and now in the film Love Again as a sister to Priyanka Chopra.
So does that make Roy Kent half South Asian? We know that his dad is in his 60s and from south London and is (of course) a little bit racist, so would it be their mother who is South Asian?
Or, she's supposed to be white. In that ambiguous way that lets Priyanka Chopra also play ambiguously white roles while she hypocritically sucks up to fascists in India and talks about being a minority abroad.
I swear, this is what it would be like being a person of colour in a Bridgerton world. You never know what is real and what is supposed to be ignored. A multiculti ode to colourblind kyriarchy.

When did we decide Roy's sister's last name was O'Sullivan?
Did I miss it in the show or is this just a universally agreed upon thing?

Because I'm genuinely curious: What do you guys name Roy's sister?
I personally go with Raelyn {Rae for short}. I know a friend of mine loves Lila, and then I know a popular one is Ruth.
Tell me! I would love to know

For the word ask game: again, play, blue, stop
Thank you for these! Let's pretend it's still Wednesday!
All from Oh God You're Gonna Get It (You Have Not Been Given Love). Spoilers across the board.
In the order I found them:
Blue
He couldn't remember the last time he needed to be quiet in his own house -- probably when Phoe was a toddler -- but with his knee, there wasn't an option of going down the stairs without stomping. He tried. Something between burning need and frantic adrenaline drummed against his heart as each thud of his heel set his nerves on edge. He grit his teeth, holding back the swear words for now.
Finally, the flat expanse of floor beneath his feet, and Roy was in motion, flying out the back door and onto his patio so fast he nearly tripped on one of Phoebe's dragons. The pink silly one, with blue swirls. It matched the unicorn--
In the quiet morning air, his own breathing sounded desperately loud. Play
He was partway through unzipping his duffel when a door flung open.
Sara burst from her room, running fast on the balls of her feet. She launched herself at her brother like she always did -- with a delighted squeal -- except this time when she made impact, Roy had to take a step back to brace them both.
Christ, she'd gotten tall. Guess it was true about girls getting their growth spurts faster. He'd never been sure if that was true for everyone or it was just the bloodthirsty demons that played for the girls' team.
Stop
"I used to try texting him sometimes. Nothing major, just stupid shit, when i thought it wouldn’t bother him. Stopped though, ‘cause it just seemed like it was sort of one-sided. He'd let me blow up his phone about whatever I wanted, but he never really said anything back, you know?”
Again (with bonus 2nd find)
“That’s not the same,” his mother answered in a tone that made him feel all of fourteen again, across the country -- the world -- and being chastised through a tinny speaker. “Roy, be realistic for once. Really, it’s nice of you to help Sarah out every now and again, but she deserves to have a partner. A real partner. And frankly, you’re not doing her or Phoebe any favors, letting them rely on you like this. Your sister needs to put herself back out there and find herself a-“
“Stop.”

I love that I've now read at least five fics where Roy Kent's sister is named "Ruth"
I love that the fandom collectively decided she needed a name and is apparently sticking to one.

It turns out I have a deep fondness for the entirely off-screen sisters of some of my favorite fictional characters.
What do I call them, though -- are they blorbos of mine, even though they are never seen and barely referred to in canon? Are they my sisters-in-blorbo? (or would that refer to folks who have the same blorbo as me?)
