Caramel-shaded cat x calico anon again! Had to push this through the submit box because it ended up being a little long. Anyways, I’ve made the sire blue-based caramel. His name’s Bearclaw, after the California grizzly bear [which I know is now extinct but my fanClans have at least heard of it; Bearclaw was born a very dark color but has since lightened a bit due to his advanced age and health-related issues]. He expresses het silver, and got that gene from his mom Dovestorm [a blue shaded silver tabby with wide banding and less than 50% white]. I think that’s how that works, anyways? So he looks a bit…funky, coloring-wise. His father expressed Selkirk Rex coat typing, and he’s the only one of his litter of 3 to show that phenotypically; his other littermates are fawn and blue silver shaded. Overall, his mom had the vast majority of the fancy genetics, his dad was very plain.
The calico’s name is Rowanbelly, and I haven’t cared to work out much of her family yet. Just that she carries recessive chocolate and dilute. Phenotypically she’s mostly red and [of course] white, with minimal black. She’s had a litter before with a tom I suppose I should design at some point, and given that her kittens were an XXY calico tom and a silver shaded queen the dad could be just about anyone. The XXY tom did not live long past apprenticeship, unfortunately. She’s just raising a family with Bearclaw as friends; they both wanted a last litter of kits [2/3 of Bearclaw’s previous mates died in childbirth and less than 30% of their kits survived past their first few months].
Planning on making them have a litter of 4 : female dilute tortie and white with high red [Goldenrodkit], female lilac-based caramel [Deerkit], male golden shaded [at least I THINK I can get goldens from this pairing; his name is going to be Marigoldkit], and a female chimera that I’m thinking of making chocolate + apricot. The last one might be infertile, having both XY and XX tissue.
Both parents should have retired to the elders’ den years ago [they’re both well over 10 and still kicking], so one or both of them might die before they get to see the kittens become warriors. If you want more info just let me know! Thanks for listening to me ramble. :)
Wow, that’s...a lot! Kudos to you for just following your dreams and putting all those genes in there, honestly. You’re correct that you can get golden tabbies and caramel is...*pulls up calculator*...dominant, so you’re all good there! Although, that does bring up the question of where Bearclaw got the caramel! If his father isn’t dilute then he could get it from there without it showing, but you didn’t mention that.
Also, chocolate and apricot chimera sounds super cute! Chimeras usually breed for just one color which means their reproductive tissue is formed entirely from one genotype, so I think you’d be safe going either way regarding her fertility.
I’m always happy to listen to others ramble! After all, this whole blog is basically me rambling at others. c:
