I will never understand people who support infant circumcision. Just have it done later as an adult if the person truly hates their foreskin so much. It's really not a big deal at that point because adults can weigh pros and cons, are allowed painkillers after an amputation, and also don't regularly have shit and urine sitting on their open wounds.
I don't care how you prefer a penis to look, I don't care if you wanna disregard the ethical dilemma of cutting a piece off an hours old baby; the fact that it's so unhygienic alone should be enough. It's an open wound in a diaper. I just. This shouldn't be controversial.

So, the routine infant circumcision to fascist douchewad pipeline is not something I expected...but if you need another reason to be against circumcision... there's, ah, this. I am also hoping it's kind of a one off.

If I had to live in a culture that normalizes permenantly removing part of our infants' bodies at birth, why couldn't it have been toenails?

Is there like a cultural reason why male circumcision is so popular in the US? I'm from Brazil where it's just seen as the treatment for phimosis, and when I hear about babies getting it I think "oh so they're jewish". But apparently non-jews do that frequently in your country?
Gonna start out with this so that the people that already know can get a laugh first.
I promise you it's relevant too. found a couple infographics that will cover it in a much less drawn out way than I would

Admittedly he was not advocating for infant genital mutilation, not that that makes it any better especially since he specifically stated no anesthesia, but people figured why not when they're infants I'd guess.
There's a bit of a different take on it here.
First, it helps to know a bit of history. Although religious practitioners have been snipping foreskins for thousands of years, the medical practice dates from the late 19th century—a time when the causes of most diseases were poorly understood. Mystified by everything from epilepsy to madness, some physicians in both America and England began to suspect that the real trouble was phimosis, a condition when an overly tight foreskin hinders normal function. By removing the foreskin, surgeons believed they could heal all sorts of maladies, from hernias to lunacy.
Around the turn of the 20th century, American epidemiologists were also trying to explain why Jews lived longer than other groups of people. Jews tended to have lower rates of infectious diseases, such as syphilis and tuberculosis, in part because they had little sexual contact with non-Jews. But some scientists began to suspect their rude health was a product of circumcision.
At the time, surgical interventions of all kinds were becoming more popular, owing to better anesthesia and greater concern over cleanliness, which reduced hospital contagion. Doctors began recommending the operation as part of the neonatal routine. Not only did the procedure prevent phimosis, but it was also believed to make the penis more hygienic and less tempting for wayward masturbating boys (a notion that might have been quashed by something known as the scientific method). As David Gollaher explains in his book Circumcision: A History of the World’s Most Controversial Surgery, a circumcised penis swiftly became a mark of distinction, a sign of good breeding, sound hygiene and the best medicine money could buy.
In Britain, too, circumcision became a habit of the upper classes, including the royal family. Anyone who could afford to have a child delivered by a doctor rather than a midwife was keen to heed the latest scientific advice.
But this changed in the UK with the launch of the publicly funded National Health Service in 1948. Because British doctors could not agree that circumcision was necessary, the practice was not covered. At a time when most Brits were financially strapped, few cared to pay for something that suddenly seemed frivolous. Circumcision rates swiftly dropped.
In America, however, the postwar boom years created a glut of jobs, and employers often wooed workers with plush health benefits, which typically covered circumcision. A growing number of Americans could suddenly afford to give birth in hospitals, and routine infant circumcisions spiked.
This helped entrench an elective medical practice, creating generations of foreskinless fathers and doctors who were inclined to believe it was best for their sons, too. It is a trend that America’s unwieldy fee-for-service health-care handily reinforces, as doctors and hospitals have incentives for offering interventions deemed unnecessary most everywhere else.
___________
not sure how much I agree with the greed section, but this one also looks to reinforce that Kellogg has some responsibility for it as well.
There's similar weirdness when it comes to graham crackers too, trying to stop masturbation and all.

Daphne Blake and Velma Dinkley (Scooby-Doo)
Tumblr media
Nothing is more important to Daphne than fashion, so in addition to making sure her son has all the most fashionable clothes, she would also want to make sure he has fashionable privates.
Velma is all about the science, and despite her Jewish heritage, would base her decision on science alone. She would research circumcision enough to realize that the American medical community is in the minority when it comes to advocating for routine infant circumcision.

"Nobody has any right to talk about "mutilating kids" as long as most boys in America are circumcised”
So, how should we put an end to the gross practice of routine infant circumcision if we can’t talk about kids being mutilated?
I guess we don’t have to call it mutilation to make an argument against the practice of surgically altering a child’s body without their consent, but that term certainly does get people’s attention and sometimes makes them stop to consider that maybe it is fucked up.
Then they can consider other fucked up things that people put children through because someone else told them ‘this is how things are’ or ‘it’s for the best’.

I like ya cut G
2 years ago, I started growing out my hair. My desire was that each glorious, majestic strand could blossom to become a note in the symphony of hair, a majestic crescendo that would have made even hair deities envious Unfortunately, I was faced with the relentless reality that my hair stubbornly refused to keep pace with my artistic ambitions. My hair was just not meant to be long. In an act of redefinition, I shaved all of my hair, to start anew.
My attention then landed on my mustache. Convinced that this was the distinctive feature that would make the difference, I spent days trying to cultivate a mustache worthy of legends. In the frantic quest for the mustachioed epic, my legendary aspirations were unfortunately eclipsed by the disappointing modesty of my facial hair. The follicles, like timid poems, refused to compose the vibrant epic that I hoped for.
However, my insatiable appetite for re-growth didn't stop there. I embarked on a side quest, my most daring and revolutionary feat yet. It became more than a quest for the growth a glorious hair or a distinguished mustache; it evolved into a side quest, pushing the boundaries of possibility. I embarked on the audacious re-growth of an organ, a choice that transcended the realms of aesthetics and ventured into the uncharted territories of personal autonomy. I set out to re-grow my foreskin using tissue expansion, sharing my journey on my website.
This process goes against conventional medical practices. Unlike medicalized procedures, foreskin restoration is not a practice endorsed or facilitated by the medical community. I saw clearly that the help of a doctor did not apply to my case.
I was struck by the irony that doctors, who are hesitant to support foreskin restoration, have no problem cutting it off a perfectly healthy baby. Working at Sainte-Justine hospital, I saw the casualness and cruelty of many professional’s decisions.
Anyways, I did my research, and over the past year, at regular intervals, usually every hour when possible, I gently pulled on my remaining foreskin for a few minutes. The tension caused the skin to gradually expand over several months, increasingly resembling an intact foreskin.
I was circumcised at the age of two, a decision made by my parents due to phimosis issues. Recognizing that this was a decision made with the best of intentions, I guess it was a common practice of the time. So I wasn’t mad, because things were different in that time, but routine infant circumcision in this day and age is something else. My restoration made me realize that times have changed, and our practices should too.
Routine cosmetic circumcision (not for medical reasons) struck me as a way to control a man by limiting his sexuality from birth. The procedure is often performed shortly after a newborn enters the world, a time when they are just beginning to acclimate to their surroundings. They are restrained and the doctor cuts off the screaming baby’s foreskin with a clamp, because it’s the parent’s belief. It sends an early message to the child that their body is not entirely their own. The dark scar left behind on their genitals becomes a permanent reminder, reminding them of their mutilation. Also, about 200 newborns die each year in North America from botched circumcisions, maybe this should prompt reflection on our practices.
Circumcision removes enough pleasure without completely crippling sexual function. Circumcised men experience about half the sexual pleasure of intact men (estimation). For circumcised men, areas that were once sensitive and supple become calloused, lose their natural moisture, and develop layers of hardened keratin. The foreskin doesn’t glide as much or at all, the man must use friction to achieve orgasm.
Driven by the desire for autonomy over my own body, I chose to take matters into my own hands. Witnessing the pain inflicted on infants in the name of cultural practices strengthened my resolve to challenge it. I will soon publish a blog post on how I restored. It might help you regain healthy, normal sexual function and sensitivity that was taken away from you as a child. You can reclaim your autonomy, and taking back control of your body as your own. In a healthcare system where justice is often lacking, assault and mutilation by healthcare professionals are unfortunately not uncommon. Sometimes, you have to stand up for yourself and take things in your own hands.

"Of course we all bathe ourselves, so what is the issue? Do people really believe it is much more difficult to wash away bacteria with some water? What could possibly be any other reason? What could be the justification of doing this to a helpless infant?”
There is ongoing debate about the actual medical justifications for routine infant circumcision. Some arguments have been made in the past that circumcision reduces the risk of urinary tract infections (UTIs) in infants and young boys, although the actual risk reduction is relatively small. Other arguments include reducing the risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), although this can be mitigated with safe sex practices such as condom use.
It is important to note that these potential benefits need to be weighed against the potential risks and harms of circumcision, including pain, bleeding, infection, and psychological trauma. It is ultimately up to each individual or family to weigh the risks and benefits and make an informed decision that they believe is best for them and their child. However, it is important that this decision is made with accurate and unbiased information, and not based on myths or cultural or social pressures.

What You Should Know About Circumcision Surgery
Circumcision surgery is a procedure that removes the foreskin from a penis so that the head is exposed. This surgery is more common in certain cultures and religions than others. In the United States, around 50 percent of newborn boys are circumcised. In European countries, the rate is as low as 1 percent. Circumcision is an encouraged practice among followers of Islam and is required under Jewish religious law.
Today, circumcision is not considered necessary as a routine operation on newborns and the decision to have the operation is left up to the baby's parents. Newborns usually have the procedure performed within a few days of birth, before being sent home from the hospital. However, circumcision surgery can be performed at any age. Some adult males undergo circumcision for medical reasons or as a personal choice. Best Circumcision Surgeon in jaipur
Reasons for supporting circumcision include following customs, not wanting to look different from peers, and perceived health benefits. There is evidence that babies who undergo the procedure have fewer urinary tract infections during the first five years of life. In addition, there is a lower rate of cancer of the penis and sexually transmitted diseases in adult males who were circumcised. Circumcision also makes it easier to keep the genital area clean and odor free.
Those who do not support circumcision feel it is wrong to subject an infant to a disfiguring and painful operation when it is not needed for a medical or religious reason. They also believe that an uncircumcised male who practices proper hygiene can also have a lower risk of infection, sexually transmitted disease, and penis cancer. Circumcision In Jaipur
Circumcision surgery is given with the aid of anesthesia today, a practice that was not followed in years past as doctors thought babies could not feel pain at such a young age. Today, local anesthesia is routinely used, but being a minor surgery, follow-up pain relief is not required. Adult males may also be offered anti-anxiety medication like Valium prior to the surgery.
Before the surgery, the penis is numbed with an anesthetic cream; injectable anesthetic may also be administered. The foreskin is then trimmed away. Adult males receive sutures, newborns generally do not. A plastic ring is commonly used on newborns that remains in place for several days after the surgery to prevent bleeding and enable healing of the incision.
Adult males can have the procedure performed in an outpatient center and resume normal activities soon after. Circumcision surgery does not require any down time from work in order to recover. There is mild pain and itching that subsides within a day or two. Men should refrain from sexual activity until the wound has completely healed in order to prevent rupture of a suture.
Circumcision is a minor surgical procedure than can be performed quickly and carries few risks and complications. One risk is that adult males may not be happy with the appearance of their penis after surgery. Different surgical styles result in different looks. Scarring is usually not a problem unless the incision was made too far away from the glans. Other rare but possible complications include excessive bleeding and infection of the wound.
Babies are routinely given the procedure before being discharged from the hospital and are sent home for recovery. Little follow-up care is needed other than keeping the wound clean by washing it at least three times daily with mild soap and water and keeping an eye out for the development of infection.
Within ten days, the baby should be fully recovered from circumcision surgery. The wound will heal in about the same amount of time for adult males but it may take weeks to become fully adjusted to the change in sensations caused by removing the foreskin.

Marie Antoinette (Marie Antoinette) and Catherine the Great (The Great)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Marie was a French queen and Catherine was a Russian empress, but these two young rulers from the eighteenth century actually have a lot in common. Both of their life stories were fabulously adapted to the screen with deliberate anachronisms, and both of them had to wait seven years to consummate their marriages because their husbands suffered from severe phimosis (tight foreskin), unable to have sex until they were eventually (and begrudgingly) circumcised.
While both women still took uncircumcised lovers, the circumstances of their marriages would have left them with an understanding (and appreciation) of circumcision that would be very atypical for a Christian woman of their time. That being said, non-religious routine infant circumcision was still completely unheard of in eighteenth century Europe, so while they probably wished their husbands' foreskins had encountered the guillotine at birth, neither of them would say "off with (the skin covering) his head" to their own sons.

Routine Infant Circumcision harms
The American Elephant in the Hospital.
In the EU, the rate of infant fatalities from infant circumcision is zero.
In the USA, regulatory agencies ignore multiple harmful complications of routine infant circumcision including fatality, and chase down one premmie infant fatality from mis-applied probiotics.
Could it be because non-consenting amputation of essential erogenous tissue is a billion dollar business in America, providing royalty free neo-natal tissue containing fibroblasts and stem cells to biotech while generating cash flow by charging for the optional cosmetic "procedure"?

On being an activist... an Intactivist
Absolutely everyone who knows me, knows I’m not shy about voicing my opinion, especially on issues I believe passionately about.
If you are a friend of mine on social media, you may have even considered  “unfollowing” me in order to avoid political posts.
I believe I’ve toned it down somewhat over the years because I know not everyone cares to hear my views on every subject. But when it comes to certain issues, I simply can’t stay silent. And actually, I think, in many cases, silence is absolutely worse than speaking out and potentially offending some people. Progress would never be made if we sat silently by while other people’s rights are violated or neglected.
Gender equality. LGBTIQ rights. Black Lives Matter. Refugee rights. Voting access. Women’s access to abortion and reproductive decision-making.
And, more recently, intactivism. I would say I was an Intactivist (a person against routine infant circumcision, who believes boys are born perfect and that circumcision is an absolutely unnecessary, cosmetic procedure) well before becoming a boy mom – I just didn’t know there even was such a term before.
Whether or not to circumcise Thom was not even a discussion point for us. His daddy is intact (or ‘whole’) like 70-80% of boys and men worldwide, and has never had a single issue. I believe in body autonomy: I did not pierce Ava’s ears – she can decide if and when she gets that done. Likewise, if Thom thinks his penis is ugly down the track, he’s welcome to choose circumcision. #HisBodyHisChoice
I do not believe a healthy, functioning part of a body should be removed. I do not believe circumcision is “cleaner” (boys are just as capable as girls of cleaning their bodies). I do not believe a boy should be cut simply because his father is, to avoid any possibly awkward conversation about why their bodies are different (can you tell me how a child’s body is like that of their adult parent’s body anyway? And also, what a perfect opportunity – one of many on our parenting journey - to discuss difference and acceptance, not to mention the value of education and challenging outdated cultural traditions).
Foreskin has 16 functions and contains more than 16,000 nerve endings. An infants intact penis requires NO special cleaning – you simply wipe it like a finger (the foreskin is fused to the glans until – it depends on the boy – at least age 4, after which a pull back, clean with water, and replace is all that is necessary. Much like a girl’s vagina).  Infections can happen and these can be treated with antibiotics, as any other infection would be (we don’t cut our girls if they have multiple UTIs, why would we cut our boys?) Statistics show that 98% of those boys and men who were kept intact remain that way their whole lives; legitimately medically-necessary circumcision is rare.  Routine Infant Circumcision (RIC) is uncommon in many other industrialized nations - circumcision rates in the UK, Sweden, Finland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada for example are all low and shrinking every year. And it’s completely unheard of in the East. There are even movements within Jewish and Muslim communities to end the practice of RIC.
If I’m brutally honest with you, I believe routine infant circumcision (circumcision that is conducted without any medical reason, without a child’s consent) is genital mutilation and a violation of that child’s human rights. A small number of infants actually DIE during this procedure (the exact number is unclear, but frankly any death is unacceptable given this is not a medically necessary surgery) and complications are commonplace (circumcisions can be ‘too tight’, painful adhesions can form, any remaining foreskin can refuse to the glans needing to then be re-circumcised – and more). The psychological impact on a baby is also not fully understood, but is theorized to impact bonding, breastfeeding and cause emotional trauma. Not to mention the immediate concern that a baby has an open wound in a diaper full of urine and feces (a perfect combination for infection).  I also challenge any parent considering circumcision to watch a video of the procedure. Your tiny newborn, strapped to a table, given (usually, and not always) a sugar-coated finger to suck, clamped and cut in his most vulnerable place. I literally want to vomit and scream at the horror of it.
So yeah, I have a strong opinion about the topic. But I have tried to avoid posting too much about it because I estimate about 70-80% of the boy moms I know circumcised their boys. And I don’t want to make anyone feel badly for the choices they made – choices I know they made with the best interests of their child in mind.
Every single mother I know well is a fantastic mother.  I do not want to make anyone feel criticized or shamed. I do however want to educate because I want to save future babies.
But I also don’t understand how you can properly research the subject of circumcision, and still choose it for your child, knowing all I’ve stated above. I know a lot of parents don’t even realize they have a choice (because the practice, especially in America, is still fairly common), and I believe many have already made a decision and pick and choose their research to back up that decision.
I’m motivated to write this post today, because a woman I have never met (though who is part of a local parenting group on Facebook) reached out to me today to let me know I’d changed her mind on circumcision after she came across a post I made (looking for intact-friendly pediatricians locally). She has a beautiful 1-year-old boy, who was circumcised, because of cultural traditions. She is now a regret mom and has begun discussing the subject with her husband and wishes she’d had more information before her son was born. She would make a difference choice for her son today.
This truly makes my heart happy. It does work: having difficult conversations really can reach other people. It can change minds. It can save babies.
I hope it saves yours.
