Future Leo becomes a mystic warrior when his baby brother gives him his powers when sacrificing himself for the time gateway. Joined by his remaining dad and a ghostly Michelangelo, he'll find a way to the good timeline to reunite with Casey Junior and give the bad timeline peace.

✍️ What’s your ideal writing setup?

🧪 Do you research for your fics?

✍️Uhh I don't really have one, it fluctuates. Sometimes I find it easiest to write on my laptop and edit on my iPad, sometimes they switch, I don't have any optimal conditions for writing.

🧪 For ATIME chapter four I did a bit of looking into how cold-blooded creatures work, and for FABT chapter six I researched what types of fabric burned the way I had in mind for Casey's mini funeral, but other than that I don't think I've done much research for my fics at all

Things I like about your fics? Oh boy, where do I start!

First of all, you come up with the most unique and interesting ideas! I know I've mentioned it before, but I love the design of FABT Leo's arm, how he's missing the hand and uses most of the prosthetic as a sort of armor. I also love how the tiny bit of Leo's blue ninpo he has left, mixed with Mikey's golden ninpo, turns it into a light green! You come up with ideas that are really cool visually, but also make so much sense in the story!

I also really love how your characters have realistic struggles, related to what they're going through. Casey struggles with his unexpected mutation in ATIME, suddenly having a completely different body and appearance that he didn't ask for. Mikey struggles with the fact that he's a ghost in FABT, having lost his physical body on top of everything else that's already been taken from him. The characters don't only have to deal with what's happening around them, but they struggle with the things that have happened TO them, if that makes sense.

And your chapter/promo art? It's always so good! The art you posted for TSISR was absolutely incredible, and got me so excited to read chapter one! (Which was SO GOOD, by the way! I can't wait to see what else you have planned for this one!)

Basically, there's a lot to love about your work!

Second point: That's actually interesting that you say that. ATIME was written to be about Casey's experience losing sight of where "Casey Jones" starts and ends following an enormous change to himself, that is the plot, at the moment I don't really have any plans for things that happen to him. For FABT though I think Mikey's experience being a ghost kind of happened by accident. It started with him not really knowing what he was doing, like how in chapter three he used up his daily magic quota, learned he can't taste or smell outside of Leo's brain, and isn't sure if he can even die this way, and then in chapter four he reveals that he's in constant pain (chapter four actually was not outlined, I wrote that completely on a whim, whoops), which sort of led to going more into his feelings on his appearance in chapter five. The fic started out being about Leo from his perspective, but as it progressed and Mikey became a main character alongside him, it felt only natural to explore what he is now. Him being a ghost is one of the core concepts of the story, and many of his own conflicts directly involve it, such as his trauma around literally dying but not really. It's a lot easier for me to write about that than the actual progression toward the characters' main goal, I write fics because of the fun ideas that I come up with, the linear story is secondary to me.

🚦 What sort of endings do you prefer to write: ambiguous, bad, happily ever after, etc: Full disclosure, I have never completed a story, but all of my fics are planned to be happily ever after

🎨 If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see: Oughh this is a really hard question. The Sky Is Still Red is my favourite and I'd like it to get the most attention, but FABT has far more scenes that I'd like to see drawn. I wanted to post chapter three with art like the previous two chapters, but I found drawing little Casey in Raph's crumbling projection way too hard (tank and child are the two hardest body types to draw 😞), I think of every scene that I've published so far I'd want to see that one the most

Hi, I know I literally never talk about my fic outside of the art posts, but I figured an update was needed!

It’s been over a month since the last chapter of For A Better Time, and there’s a multitude of reasons for that that I won’t go into, but I think it’s going to take a lot longer now. For the past few weeks the outlined plot has been bugging me, and today I thought of an entire extra chapter to add, so I think first I’m going to take some time to finish chapter five, then I’m going to fiddle with the outline and iron out more details, and then I’ll start work on the next chapter without releasing chapter five until I’m sure I’m happy with where the story is going to go. Thanks everyone for your patience!

Lately school has been eating me alive and I've been having eye issues that are making things more difficult, so writing and art will probably be taking a while until I can get glasses and figure out accommodations for school. Hi, me again! :D You said favourite’s’ plural soo… All of the art in ‘for a better time,’ is so good, and the fic itself has a great dose of future Leo and Mikey content that I love seeing!!!! Do you have a favourite scene from here, or is it one yet to be written?

Favourite scene is very difficult. I was super excited to write chapter five from the minute I started the fic, but there were some other good ones.

Chapter four was actually not outlined, it only exists because chapter three was getting far too long, the only scene for it I had planned was April's funeral at the end. Draxum wasn't even planned to be in the story until after I finished chapter three. The scene where it's established that one of the side effects to being a ghost is constant pain was written completely on a whim, and I sort of regret it because of the way it changed the tone of the story moving forward, but it was too good to take out, and I think I can work with it moving forward. The flashback opening of chapter three was also very fun to write, I love that scene.

Being srs tho, most of chapter five is probably my favourite "scene," I just loved writing the past bros so much. I really wanted to bring the energy that they have in the show and at the end of the movie, they're living life and they're happy, they're making fun of each other and telling jokes and playing games, this is the "better time" that the fic revolves around, this world is the goal. Casey is happy here, he has friends, he's integrated with the good timeline Hamatos, he's smiling wider than he has since his mother and uncle died. Leo and Mikey can't wait to finally experience it alongside him.

@theplacewhereidumpmyinterests Thanks so much for liking the cover, it's probably my best drawing like- ever. Very happy with it, it took me three days.

As far as fic details go! I think the ways I mess with time travel in FABT and TSISR. I noticed a while ago that in my long fics I write it totally unconventional, or at least in a way that I've never seen in any media.

In FABT, it's the two timelines. Originally I was going to cut from Leo's meditation to just being in the past timeline because I didn't want to have Mikey show Leo how pretty all of the little timelines branching in the air were, but then I realized that I didn't have to. There's only two of them because Mikey is the only being in the universe to have successfully created a new one, splitting off from the original. The bad timeline is primordial, older than magic itself, it's dull and grey. The good timeline is bright and gold and silver and glowing, it is made of magic. I made them ENORMOUS, incomprehensibly so, and they shouldn't be comprehensible, because they're embodiments of time itself, they are universes, the universe is enormous and we will never understand all of it, they're not one in a million, or easily digestible, they're gigantic, and they're miracles.

In TSISR it's the timescape between the time gateway and the past. I don't actually remember why I started writing it that way in the original draft of the start of the fic (which was actually a prologue rather than a first chapter), but it's lucky I did, because it worked wonderfully for the story, giving Casey time to digest the mission that was just sprung on him, giving them time to process Michelangelo and Commander O'Neil's deaths, and most importantly hype each other up on how great life in the past will be. There's no time in the timescape, ironically, it's a road adjacent to it. A time gateway brings you to a space separate from time, and leads you to another point within time. And of course since it was made with Michelangelo's magic, it's hot and bright and strange. I don't think it will ever appear in the fic again, which is honestly a shame, because it was very interesting to invent.
