I might be projecting, but as far as I'm concerned, most if not all of the characters in Romantic Killer are acearo.
Saki in particular. Usually the popular girl character isn't interested in anyone except one special person (like they might be doing to Tsukasa), but Saki shows clear disinterest in anyone looking at her in any romantic or sexual way.
Anzu might be romantic, but at the very most I see her as Demiromantic. The only person pushing for romaance in this show seems to be Riri, Junta when it comes to Anzu and Hijiri (but honestly I think he see's her as a rarity and is just learning how to be a normal person)
Tsukasa has some kind of girl related trauma (I haven't gotten up to his backstory) but from what I can tell the way they're going with it, he just appreciates that Anzu isn't all over him.
Like I said, I might be totally wrong, but I really feel like they're a bunch of acearos trapped in a romance genre anime.

I Need To Do What?!
Part 1 - The Ultimatum
The school year was about to come to an end and Anzu couldn’t be happier! With her parents gone to a magically created land far, far away (she still wasn’t convinced her post office worker Dad was transferred to the United States), her best friends Tsukusa and Junta were still rooming with her (not in her own room but in her house obviously!).
Of course, they had company in the form of Tsukasa’s sister, Arisa every other weekend. Hijiri and Tsuchiya occasionally came by for dinner once Hijiri got accustomed to the taste of commoner’s food.
Rio or Riri popped in at inoppurtune moments and caused mayhem whenever they came by.
Anzu was excited that nothing magical had occurred in the past few months. She almost believed that she would safely reach the end of the school year with no magical hijinks.
Now, this optimism would be much stronger and believable if Rio hadn’t decided to adopt a sullen routine these past few days. He would open his mouth to say something and then clam up, looking forlorn like it was the end of the world. Not to mention his weary sighs and sad looks when they would all sit together for dinner or go to the park or go shopping.
It was driving Anzu insane!
Now that Anzu had her video games, she made sure to reunite with her gaming console and had regular dates with it. She was about to defeat the evil warlord in her latest game when she heard that blasted despondent sigh.
Anzu threw the gaming console down with a loud crash.
“That’s it! I’ve fucking had it with your attitude these past few days, Rio! Spill!” she roared into his startled face.
His aquamarine gaze and cute boyish features hardly ever had any effect on her anymore. Well, mostly.
“Anzu, what are you talking about?” he asked with that annoying coquettish grin of his.
Anzu wanted to throttle him, not that it ever did any good when she did.
She eyed that blasted star shaped wand carelessly sticking out of his pocket. She held his gaze and stepped closer, till she was towering over him.
“You will tell me what your problem is,” she whispered into his ear, ignoring his shiver. “Or else, I’ll fling this wretched thing into the sewer!” she threatened as she held out the wand in her hand. It was so easy, like taking candy from a baby.
“Anzu! No! Please don’t do that! I need it desperately! More so this month than ever!” he cried pitifully.
Anzu narrowed her eyes at his words.
“What’s happening this month? Other than the fact that our little game comes to an end and you wizards can no longer play with my life?” she asked, tapping the wand against her palm.
Rio played with his fingers and replied without looking up. “Uh, yeah. You see, that is not entirely accurate,” he hedged.
“What is that supposed to mean?” Anzu’s voice had taken on a dangerous tone, one she adopted when a certain tiny peach fuzzball was about to get the beating of a lifetime.
Rio winced.
“You remember that tiny little deal earlier this year? The one where the wizard headquarters graciously granted you a year to fall in love?”
“I was there for it all! Now what the fuck does it have to do with your sudden desolate attitude?” she barked at him.
“Um, you see, they might have reason to believe you don’t take the deadline seriously. After all, is it so hard to fall in love when you have 4 ikeman at your disposal?”
“And you are the 4th ikeman I believe?” she asked drily.
Rio nodded emphatically like it was obvious.
“Let’s not forget the 0.001% chance of me falling in love with you,” she pointed out.
“Numbers mean nothing when it comes to love!” he exclaimed with stars in his eyes.
“Can you get to the point now?” Anzu asked, massaging her temples. It was incredibly difficult getting a straight answer from Rio about anything!
“Uh, yes. So where was I?”
“I am not falling in love before the blasted deadline!”
“Right,” he snapped his fingers at her. Anzu growled and Rio took a step back. “Since our company has never given such a generous amount of time for any project. Even a Non-Heroine such as yourself is capable of falling in love. A year is simple far too much time!”
“When will this explanation end?” Anzu muttered to herself. Perhaps, this can of worms should have been left unopened.
“-if you don’t fall in love by the end of this month, this entire project will be labelled as a failure and your ikeman, all 4 of us will lose our memory of you completely,” he said.
Anzu took a moment to process the information.
“WHAT THE FUCK, RIO!”

I really liked Romantic Killer on Netflix. The series is a rom-com anime about a girl (Anzu) that likes playing games, eating chocolate and spending time with her cat. She's not interested in romance, but suddenly a magical being called Riri (or Rio) makes her a "heroine" irl making her meet classic love insterests while Riri/Rio takes all the stuff she loves away, putting her in a lot of cliche situations so she can fall in love. Of course that doesn't work so now she has to deal with these boys while trying to avoid any romantic moments.
At first the situation was a bit uncomfortable to see for me, because she was forced into these situations as well as the guys without really wanting to. However I like that the magic wasn't really manipulating people, just the situations.
What I like about the series is that while it has cliches, it builds over them with how Anzu reacts to them, and the conversations between the characters help them bond and have interesting dynamics
One of the themes is boundaries and how not respecting them can have consequences. Outside the cliche situations, these topics are taken seriously and not as part of the comedy aspect of the show, especially Kazuki's (one of the guys Anzu meets) problem.
I guess the contradiction between the boundaries topic and the "being forced into being the heroine of an otome irl" is on purpose?
I hope we can get a 2nd season, especially with all that happened in the last 2-3 episodes

I am here without a fandom account formally requesting that someone add the “I’ll sue you for slander” moment from Netflix’s “Romantic Killer” (go watch it btw it’s amazing) to the “references to ace attorney in other media” section
Netflix is a little asshole so I cant screenshot it and YouTube doesn’t have the piracy option so have this shitty picture I took when I wanted to show my friends

Begging yall cuz I audibly wheezed when this showed up

I heard that there are concerns about the show but having finished it, I think it subverts expectations actually?? You think it's going to be a show that, through magic and shenanigans, she'll develop romantic feelings for a boy by the end. But the show is about found family? Wholesome and supportive relationships? And calls out the coercion often? Anzu never forgets her situation and constantly tries to stop it. Meanwhile, she develops friendships with these boys and see them for the humans that they are--not as romantic potential partners. At the same time, the show also shows that "forced" situations aren't helpful and often it is the genuine moments that build true connection and interest.

So I guess the author of Romantic Killer says that there won't be plans for another season or any more chapters. Excuse me while I go be a little sad about it 😂 fanfic writers better step up their game 😞

If you had told me Romantic Killer was the best new romance anime since Horimiya after I'd only seen episode 1, I would have not believed you. Now that I'm finished with the season however... !!!

Anzu is a better person than me cause if someone kidnapped my cat, took away my favourite food and hobby I would murder them irregardless of their magical powers while also dating all the cute guys. Once figuring out they aren’t being spelled into liking me ofc. Anzu deserves serious props for keeping Riri alive.

binged watched Romantic Killer in a day on a whim and it's been sooo long since I binged a good anime.
At first I thought it was just your normal cute funny shojo anime but it was so good!! I really loved the main character of Anzu bc she is literally me - dress wise, cook wise, priorities wise (our pets, hobbies and chocolate obsession) and I also love how the characters weren't shallow stereotypes of your ideal partners. They had backgrounds and were fleshed out and they had feelings. And the storyline for Kazuki was heartbreaking and had me genuinely scared. And with the small background for Anzu's best friend Saki!!! It was horrible to see but realistic. Anzu is just the friend everyone wants and needs.
I think it was a good show and worth the watch. It's funny, it's cute, its serious, has great characters both main and side. The voice acting for Anzu was awesome in my opinion, I absolutely loved it.
I want a season 2 and I might just read the manga bc I want to know what that little teaser with Kate and her... 'new subject' leads to and also who Anzu might end up with...!!!
