Sunday blessings, friends! How can I pray for you this week? 🙏💗 I don’t know if anyone would describe me as having a heart of stone, but I know my heart has been in need of some spiritual surgery over the years. When I was younger, I loved God but my dreams didn’t always make room for his sovereignty. I loved the glitter of the shiny idols that I’d been socialized into believing were the emblems of success. But as I entered into mid-life a few years ago I found myself struggling between two different doctrines. According to the worldly doctrine or the image of the American dream I had conjured in my youth, I was coming up short. The life I pictured back when I was in school hadn’t entirely turned out the way I’d planned. My road had already hit its share of bumps and there was little hope of any smoother paths around the next turn. But according to the Word that had steered me through every obstacle, I was stronger than ever. And none of those worldly trappings I had yearned for had ever been the things I could count on when it counted most. None of them could help my daughter when she was sick. None of them could offer any comfort or answers when I prayed. Because a heart that pleases God will rarely please the world. But wisdom comes from knowing which goals to strive for, and will free you from the burden of serving two masters.
