If you're gonna buy a recast, buy a Dollshe recast
Yeah, that's right, I said it. If you want a recast BJD, buy a recast Dollshe.
Tumblr media
Dollshe Craft (now Club Coco) is running a Ponzi scheme. People waiting five years plus for a doll are being told that their old order won't ship unless they purchase a new doll from Club Coco. Dollshe/Dragon Kim needs new money to support his old investors... which is the textbook definition of a Ponzi scheme. So I don't exactly have a ton of sympathy when a thief steals from a fraudster.
At least Oueneifs/Luo Lugoi will deliver an actual doll after you send them money, which is more than I can say for Dollshe.

There sat I, a faded creature under faded leaves...
(this is a recast - more thoughts below)
She is a recast of what I can only find as "Fairyland Chicline Chloe" which is 1/4 scale with mature proportions. I bought her when I was still getting into playline dolls, way before did any research into BJDs and where/how they're usually produced. I am most definitely not going to buy more but at the same time I don't see the point in pretending I don't own this doll. I learned a lot from the process of customizing her, lessons that I will apply to future projects with my legits, and to date this is the most complicated thing I've sewn. On the off chance that I find a different body (BJD or otherwise) that will fit these clothes I will probably replace her with something else.
Anyways. Bloodborne. Great game

The comparison between bjd collectors and designer purse collectors has always made alotta sense to me, especially in regards to fakes. But what I NEVER understood was the way anti artists use that comparison and rework it into their anti artist arguments.
We as bjd collectors will compare the two and say that collecting bjds, just like collecting designer bags, is a hobby that requires saving up funds, hunting for bargains, buying from the source, researching reputable resellers and dealers, modifying, refurbishing, and building up communities and relationships with other people involved in our luxury hobby
But anti artists will compare the two and almost only focus on the looks! They'll state that they would never want to own a minifee Chloe when they can have a finimee Zoey just like they would never want to own a Prada when they can have a Nada! And it's like, fine, if you don't want to buy the doll you want then werk mama. But at least try to be more sane about it like the Nada owner is!!
I've see girlies go on paragraph after paragraph rants about how happy they are with their "minifee" and how it's (allegedly) just as good as a Fairyland minifee and how they're doing better than us because their "minfee" didn't cost an arm and a leg. And it's honestly concerning in a sick way. Like watching someone struggle (and fail) to not throw up
You think the Nada purse owners are doing that!? NO!!!!! The Nada owners are being just as shady, sneaky, snake like, and silly as the anti artists girlies, but at least the fake purse owners haven't convinced themselves that they ACTUALLY own the designer bags they NEVER paid for. You talk to anyone in the rbjd and ask them to name what type of dolls they own and those clowns actually have the AUDACITY to name off companies and sculpts!
Makes me shake in my heels every time I see it!
Like no mama. You know that you didn't buy a minifee Chloe because minifee Chloe is ONLY produced by Fairyland and Chloe was ONLY sculpted by one of their employees getting their FL paycheck. Why don't you call it New Sexy Minifee SD Chloe Dollfie Fairyland 1/4 Cute Girl Bjd just like how you bought it huh?? Oh right! Cuz to you long term lala land residents an rbjd and a bjd is 200% the exact same thing in every regard except price
Honestly. Anti artists either really need to take a page outta the bootleg purse girl playbook OR they need an 80cc dose of reality

Steampunk!
My newest doll Cordelia (recast Minifee Mio) in the steampunk outfit I made for her!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The blouse has a ton of lace, fake pearl buttons, more lace, a cameo "brooch," puffed sleeves, and even more lace, and was based on an MSD dress shirt pattern from Lomi's Playground. The skirt is just a normal rectangle skirt with a shaped waistband, based on an MSD corset pattern also from Lomi's Playground. The goggles were bottlecaps painted with nail polish, then wrapped in craft store leather strips. Bag was some dollhouse thing or something we had in our stash. And of course I glued gears to things. The guy who sold her to me sent the wig and the boots.

At the end of the day it doesn’t matter if it’s Volks, Minifee, Soom, Resinsoul, an artist BJD, some obscure-ass company or a recast. It doesn’t matter if the faceup is flawless art or the shittiest n00b crayon trash ever. Clothes, eyes, wig, etc, doesn’t fucking matter. Professional photography or badly lit shit. Does your doll make you happy? Do you look at it and smile and enjoy it and have your mind filled with happy doll thoughts? Then you have the best doll ever. Yes, you.
(((2nd "unberied" confession of the day))) 🙏

I'm not a bitch for being extremely pro-artist, nor am I rich for having close to 6 BJDs, a smart doll, an obitsu and a Ye Luoli doll within a two year time frame of being in the hobby. Layaway exists, saving up also exists and if you're a fellow streamer you might also be able to save up that way. Dream of Doll literally shut down thanks to recasts, from what we have heard. We're a mentally ill, autistic Polyfragmented DID system, we have medical bills, a car and college. Yet, we can still afford to buy dolls without stressing out. Recasts do harm artists, imagine buying a doll that takes days to print versus buying a legit doll that takes months to sculpt. It's literal art theft and many BJD companies have made announcements about recasts of their dolls. Can't afford a Fairyland?? Save up, hybrid or buy a cheaper doll if you're impatient. BJD Divas literally offers the longest layaway (up to a fucking year), yeah you heard us! A whole fucking year to pay off your doll. This isn't elitist or classist, we enjoy this hobby and thousands of other people donas well.
We can't even trust BJD owners anymore because some recast owners don't tag their doll as a recast, thankfully we can easily spot on. Stop trying to invade our space, excusing art theft and stop talking shit about how DOA is hell. Den of Angel's has strict rules for a fuclkng reason and no we are not open for a debate as to why recasts aren't harmful.

OMFG another post about recasts
Yup. Once I realized that I've been collecting BJDs for five whole years, it's made me a little introspective.
So this is the one and only legit sculpt by Luo Lugoi - an honest-to-dog legitimate sculpt from Oueneifs:
Tumblr media
And yes, I own her.
Arguably, she was "inspired" by other companies, but plenty other BJD companies are "inspired" by each other. See - Impldoll's new 1/4 "plump" body.
My stance on recasts went from stridently angry, to curious, to nuanced - not in the sense of being "recast-positive" or even "recast-neutral." Let's call it "recast-pragmatic." The arguments around recasts by pro-artists, which I am absolutely sympathetic to BTW, are that people shouldn't buy recasts. Agreed.
But they are.
See, the problem with this argument is that it reminds me strongly of another line of argument - the one in favor of abstinence-only education. Different subject matters, yes, but the type of argument is identical.
"Children shouldn't be having sex!"
Agreed. But they are.
"But they shouldn't be!"
I accept your argument. But they're doing it anyway, and we can't seem to stop them. So: what are we going to do to minimize the harm? Cuz abstinence-only education appears to increase harm.
And that is where my nuance falls on recasts now. YES, people should not be buying them. YES, they are theft. YES, Luo Lugoi has zero excuse when companies like Guard Love, Ao Ling Shi, and Resinsoul/Bobobie have been making beautiful, affordable, legitimate resin dolls.
But people are buying them. And saying they shouldn't be doesn't change the fact that they are.
So. What do we do to minimize the harm? What worked in the past? What didn't work?
And that's my post about recasts. Hopefully a little different from what you've read before.

The BJD community is hypocritical. Reason #10054
No but seriously. They go on about how you should support the poor artists who made dolls and how recasts are bad and you should just save up and be ethical.
And then they go and buy any wigs or clothes no matter what it's made from because "It looks good." Not thinking about where it came from to begin with and if it has any suffering behind it.
The same thing with their own stuff and foods.
Animals are literally killed to make the stuff you buy that contain animal products. But somehow that's not a big deal to you, because your own pleasure and convenience always comes first.

My spouse @starheartsdreams finished the faceup so I wanted to show off my new baby dragon! She's a Oueneifs recast that I got for myself as a reward for dealing with some stuff. Also: she is cute.
