Razputin's final message
(Raz sits behind his computer, his friends and family behind him.)
[Raz] Okay, I think I’m all set …
[Lili] You sure about this, Raz?
[Raz] Yeah, yeah …it’s just…kinda weird, you know. I’ve had this blog for a few years now, and now I’m gonna just …stop it?
[Lili] You could just keep doing it.
[Raz] (Sighs) Nah, I need to do this. I’m gonna be super busy next year, and I won’t have the time maintain the blog. (Pause) Okay, I’m ready. Everyone get something to say?
[Milla] You start, querido.
[Sasha] It was your project, after all.
[Raz] Guess what I like to say is …thank you. Thank you for being a part of my journey these last few years; with us, really. To see us live through both the hardships and joyous breakthroughs we experienced. But most of all, thank you for all the support each and every one of you have shown me and my friends through all our endeavours. (Sniffles) Okay, I’m getting emotional. You guys have some advice for our followers?
[Lili] Hmmm, how about: Kick ass when people try to kick you down.
[Milla] Good start, but I rather say: be kind to other and don’t forget to stay fabulous.
[Sasha] Keep a rational mind when confronted with difficult situations.
[Forsythe] Study hard, set your goals and work for your success.
[Lizzie] Be true to yourself, no matter how hard the world wants you to change into their way of thinking.
[Millie] Find someone who’ll love you no matter how much of a goof you are.
[Norma] Forgive yourself for mistakes you made in the past. Don’t be afraid to change for the better.
[Frazie] Believe that love will work out in the end, even if you have to work for it.
[Gisu] Keep smart and stay radical.
[Sam] Dare to experiment. Be weird and fun.
[Morris] Life is filled with music. Dance your heart out.
[Adam] Be responsible, but don’t forget to have fun.
[Raz] I love you all! Adeus, my friends!
[Connection Terminated]
[Farewell]
[Have a happy 2024]

Potential art of Raz and Lizzie hanging out being surrogate brother and sister?
I dunno, maybe 👀
Not like I'm hunched over my desk scribbling stuff for the Razputin Vodello AU or anything 👀👀👀👀

I like to think for the interns, babysitting raz was one of their first missions.
Sasha and milla say on paper it's to teach them responsibility, keeping people of interest within their sights among other spy reasons but the interns try to read through it as wanting a free babysitter
While there is some level of truth to that, it's moreso that they acknowledge raz can't rely on Lillie as his only friend at the motherlobe. Plus a psychic child with little to do outside of homework is going to get restless.
The interns get to test themselves with their abilities chasing raz and he gets to play
Razputin certainly didn't make it easy for them. He certainly made some memorable moments with them. Like him and Lizzie drawing tattoos on each other with permanent marker. Convincing Gisu to let him stay up late way past his bedtime. The kitchen incident with Sam. Things like that.
I can certainly agree that Milla would see the benefit of having some older kids in his circle of friends. They all taught him some things. Lizzie helped him with standing up for himself. Gisu helped him with balancing tricks whenever he had a basophobia panic attack. Adam showed him responsibility and leadership. Sam made him realize that being weird isn't a bad thing. Morris and him have a shared love for music. And with Norma he learned d how to be a little brother.
But, Milla also considered the other way around. Like you said: learning responsibility and safety. But she knew that certain Interns could benefit from Raz as well, by being a little brother to the group and having a friendship with him.
Like Norma, who's past personalty and behavior caused her to have a low self image and a small bit of self-hatred. Being a sister to Raz helped her heal and accept herself, becoming the warm, loving person she is in my AU.
I could write pages on how Raz and the Interns' mutual relationship helped each other, but most of that is in the blog already.

(this post contains outdated information, may not 100% be in the finished work.)
As a belated birthday gift for Psychonauts 2, here are the central characters of the Vodello Family AU (in no particular order except for mentors coming after mentees)
Razputin "Raz" Vodello: a surprisingly strong psychic despite his age still, now he's a constantly curious, energetic, and maybe a bit too determined kid.
Cassie O'Pia: Raz’s mentor/general teacher, calm and wise. Her archetypes adore Raz to various degrees. (Liberian seems to be hiding something, however)
Dion Vodello: almost the exact opposite from canon, now a supportive, and encouraging older brother to his siblings. Also a little more musically inclined due to his mentor.
Helmut Fullbear: he may be a little longer in the tooth, but he’s still the Helmet we know and love. His mental world is now a bit less of a dissonant harmony however.
Frazie Vodello: again similar to canon but without her coming out as psychic woes, in their place however is mild middle child syndrome and a love for messing with her brothers with her cryokinetic GF.
Hollis Forsythe: the "homeroom teacher" of the interns/junior agents and Frazie's mentor, honestly deserves a vacation with what she gets put up with.
Lizzie Natividad: Frazie's GF and one of Raz's cool big sisters. besides that nothing new.
Compton Boole: a LOT less paranoid and self-defeating, patient as a saint and takes the interns on a bi-monthly bowling trip. His mental world is also more of a "cooking with" show.
Norma Natividad: She’s the responsible (Re: buzzkill) of the group, and has a mild rivalry with Raz due to her better education but his psychic proficiency makes her jealous.
Sasha Nein: carbon copy of canon character. Father figure to the Vodello siblings.
Gisu Nerumen: The cool big sister to Raz and Dion’s girlfriend. Enjoys using her devices to have some fun on occasion.
Otto Mentallis: seems a bit more wary about giving his inventions to the interns in this AU. Also seems sullen if talking to just the Vodello kids.
Morris Martinez: tries to be the cool guy, results vary.
Milla Vodello: exact same as in canon, but now raises the siblings.
Samantha “Sam” Boole: weird, but knows what she’s doing (usually). Raz reminds her of Dogen a lot.
Coach Oleander: gruff on the outside but with a soft center.
Adam Joseph-Gette: the kind hearted big brother mentor to Raz and de-facto leader of the interns.
Truman Zanotto: the grand head of the psychonauts is the trope “Reasonable Authority Figure” personified. Plus objectively the greatest dad.
Lili Zanotto: like father unlike daughter. She’s seen the whole “psychic super spies” thing since birth and has become desensitized to the wonder of it all. (Good thing Raz & his siblings make things interesting.)
Robert “Bob” Zanotto: a definite step up from canon. No longer a complete alcoholic due to his husband never dying. Tries his absolute best to hone Lili’s herbaphony.
Spoiler Character: I’ll just say this, they’re the reason the psychic 6 are so secretive, and why some of the 6 keep away from the Vodello siblings.
Ford Cruller: while he never fractured his mind like in canon, due the events during and after Grulovia he tends to just keep away from people that remind him of Lucy or the spoiler character.

Any costume ideas you're thinking of this year, Milla? I usually think you might pick Talia al Ghul or something.
[Milla] Who? Dear me, darling, I have no idea who you're talking about
[Raz] Comic book character, Mom.
[Milla] Oh? Is she a nice woman, querido?
[Raz] Eh....às vezes?
[Milla] (Giggles) I see. Anyway, me and Sasha are staying home this dia das Bruxas. The Aquatos are going trick 'r treating with the children, and we shall remain home to treat halloween goers with some candy. So no costume this year. (Pause) (Laughs) Oh, Sasha, I know you know I heard you thinking that, you big tease.
[Raz] What did he say, eh ...think?
[Milla] He mentioned I could wear some of my old outfits and pretend I time traveled from the roaring 70s.
[Raz] (Laughs) Mom, are just gonna take that from him?
[Milla] Oh Raz, be kind to your dad. It's not his fault he hasn't changed his style in 10 years and doesn't know any better.

Hey raz lili are you too gonna do a couples costume this year?
[Lili] I've been trying to convince Raz to go as Dion and Gisu, but not with much luck.
[Raz] There's no way I'm using that amount of hair grease on my hair. That's just begging to end up with dry ends.
[Lili] (Snorts) You're such a girl sometimes, Raz.
[Raz] (Exaggerated and overly dramatic gasp, making Lili giggle) Oh, how dare you, Liliana Zanotto. I am a Vodello, and a Vodello-
[Lili] -'takes care of themselves', I know, Mr. drama actor. You've spun me that line a lot over the years I've known you. How about Augustus and Donatella instead?
[Raz] That could work. I can use the beard from the Truman outfit we wore that other time. I just need to dye it red. But where are we gonna find a wig that size for Mama Dona's hair? That's going to be murder on your neck to balance that.
[Lili] I could hide a plant in there and make it grow roots?
[Raz] As for costumes ...we could just borrow some clothes from them?
[Lili] That could work. Y'wanna go ask them now?
[Raz] Sure, it's been a while since I've visited anyway.

Interns I have a very touchy, what if question. What if Milla never found Raz that day, or what if Raz never got into that accident that caused his amnesia to begin with? I guess what I'm trying to ask is what if Raz or his family never came into your lives at all?
[Norma] That's ...a loaded question, indeed.
[Lizzie] Yeah, I can see why you wanted to put this one off for so long, Norms.
[Adam] I must say, I feel like you two have been affected the most by Raz being in our lives.
[Sam] Yeah, I already had a little brother. And Morris has a thousand cousins, or something.
[Morris] Less than a dozen, muchas gracias. I do agree with Adam, in fact. We didn't really have that much changed in our lives.
[Lizzie] How about you, Gisu?
[Gisu] Well, I think that the biggest thing would be that Dion wouldn't be in my life. Or maybe live would find a way, we'll never know. It's not like the multiverse theory has any legs to stand on, y'know?
[Lizzie] Meta-physical phenomena theories aside, I think you guys are right. I know that I was a bit more ...anarchistic when I first got here. I was a carefree slacker.
[Norma] You still are.
[Lizzie] (Chuckles) Yeah, but not as much anymore, am I? Acting as Raz's big sister really made me more ...responsible, if only a bit. I believe my social skills got a bit better, seeing I felt that I needed to show Raz at least a bit of my mature side. But Norma, you sure got the biggest change out of it, don't you?
[Norma] You mean, besides having an amazing girlfriend in the shape of Frazie Aquato? I think that it's a bit the same as Lizzie said. Being more responsible - especially for my own actions -, better attitude around other people - don't make a joke, Lizzie. I can see you smirking. - opening myself up to others. Raz did make that possible, in some way. Don't say I said that. His ego is already big enough as it is.
[Adam] You know, come to think of it, we might never had met if it weren't for Raz.
[Morris] How come?
[Gisu] Oh yeah, I remember. The Psychonauts had funding issues in the past, but after Milla and Sasha found Raz, the Oversight Commission really started to pour money into the Agency.
[Sam] Oh, because they feared that Raz was a victim of an organisation that targeted Psychic children, or something, right?
[Adam] Yeah, which led to Agent Forsythe starting up the Advanced Intern Program, which we all joined a couple of years ago.
[Gisu] Huh, weird to think that one little thing - like Raz falling in a river and getting amnesia - leads to such big changes. Domino Effect if I ever saw one.
[Raz] (Entering the room) Hey guys, what are you doing?
[Norma] (Smiles) (Gestures Raz to come closer) Oh, just talking and answering some asks.
[Raz] About what?
[Norma] (Pulls Raz into a hug) About how lucky we are to have you in our lives as our little brother and that we love you very much.
[Raz] (Slightly flustered)(Returns the hug) Oh, I, eh... (Chuckles) I feel the same way. Thanks, Norma.
[Sam] Aww! (Wraps arms around Norma and Raz) Group hug!
[Gisu] (Does the same) Read my mind, Sam. Join in guys!
(Everyone joins in on the hug) (Raz is extremely flustered and blushing up a storm)
[Raz] C'mon, guys. (Nervous chuckle) Eh, Lizzie, you're not gonna call a tickle fight while I'm all vulnerable, right?
[Lizzie] (Soft Chuckle) Tempting, but, not today, Poots. (Ruffles his hair) Not today.
[Raz] Oh... (Relaxes into the hug) I love you guys.

Ask to everyone what do you guys do for Christmas and for the couples do ya'll kiss under the mistletoe?
(Timeline: before Christmas) (Sorry, I forgot this was in my drafts!)
[Lizzie] Are you kidding me? me 'n Millie prolly gonna be spending most of our time there, when we're not 'mingling about'.
[Norma] Like the two of you need any sort of excuse to make out any-when and anywhere.
[Frazie] You two act like rabbits during mating season.
[Lizzie] (Hearty laugh) Oh, that's rich, coming from you two!
[Frazie] And why is that?
[Lizzie] Because Frazie is practically straddling you right now.
[Norma] (Caressing Frazie's back, while the latter is nuzzling against the former's cheek.) So?
[Lizzie] (Chuckles) Just wanted to point that out.
[Norma] (Laughs and gently pushes her disagreeing girlfriend of her lap) Down, Kitten.
[Frazie] (Pouts) Aww, I was getting comfy too.
[Lizzie] (Fake gag) Can we get to the rest of the question?
[Norma] You wanna tell 'em, Frazie?
[Frazie] Certainly, love. Anyway, we all got the same plans, technically. The Psychonauts are having this big, BIG Christmas Eve party and all of our families are coming. There's gonna be fancy food, a lot of dancing and maybe me and Norma are gonna sneak out, like last year.
[Norma] (Blushes) Hush!
[Lizzie] (Grins wickedly) Oh? What did the two of you do, then?"
[Norma] Nothing! (Grabs Frazie by the arm and starts dragging her out) Let's go see if we can help out, Frazie - before you elevate my heart rate even more....
[Frazie] Ooh, am I gonna get spanked because I was being naughty?
[Norma] Frazie!
[Lizzie] (Keels over, laughing hysterically)

As raz ever drank coffee? And would he be able to handle it or be very hyper?
[Adam] We do not give Razputin coffee.
[Morris] Not since the incident.
[Raz] Oh, c'mon, guys, it wasn't that bad.
[Gisu] You. Broke. every. Mug. In. The. Motherlobe.
[Sam] You tried order the spices in the cantina by 'harmony of their smell', which doesn't even make sense to even me.
[Lizzie] They still haven't figured out how you managed the jukebox in the Astral lounge to play every song in German...
[Raz] Okay, and I told you guys I don't remember doing all those things.
[Lizzie] No Coffee for you ever again, young man!
[Raz] Okay, 'mom'.
[Lizzie] You're taking a tone with me, Poots? (Grins) Seems someone needs a tickle lesson again.
[Raz] Oh, Crap. (Runs off as quick as he can)
[Lizzie] (Stretches and cracks her knuckles) Haa, I love it when he tries to put on a fight. You guys want in on this?
[Adam] Nah, all yours, fam.
[Lizzie] (Walks out the dorms) Okay, see y'all in a bit. Imma hunt down my little brother.
[Gisu] I'm convinced Raz enjoys getting us to chase him more than he would admit.

Sasha gave raz coffee
(I also posted this on my page so if the link doesn't work you can watch it on my blog)
[Milla] (Giggling)
[Sasha] The absurdity of it. I'd never give Razputin coffee, and certainly no expresso.
[Milla] Oh, we know, husband. It's just a funny video.
[Sasha] I don't see the funny side of it. Too much caffeine at a young age can't be good for a young boy.
[Milla] (Giggling) And you wonder why people call you 'a stiff'.
[Sasha] I am very aware that my behavior can evoke such a characterisation. (Slightest of smirks) I believe you're often referred to as a 'relentless flirt'.
[Milla] Darling, I am a relentless flirt. (Takes seat on his lap, making Sasha blush) but only with you.
[Raz] (reading a comic on the same couch his parents are sitting on) I am still here, you know.
[Millia] Oh, we know, sweetheart.
[Raz] (groans and continues to read his comic book) (Mutters) I hope me and Lili never going to be this sappy with each other.
[Sasha] (Overheard him) You will.
[Milla] (Giggles)

Hello there!
Something I thought of fir a while and decided to ask raz and the interns is have any of you played scary games? Like slenderman, outlast or monstrum?
[Lizzie] I 'gently encoraged' Raz to play Slenderman a while ago ....in the dark.
[Raz] You dared me and called me a wimp if I wouldn't.
[Lizzie] Which is gently encouraging. You played it didn't ya?
[Raz] Yeah, and the jumpscare got me so bad I accidentally TK'ed the computer across the room.
[Lizzie] And who took the blame with Forsythe for that, my fear Pooter?
[Raz] (Pause) You did.
[Lizzie] And don't you forget it.
[Raz] Hey, I paid you back in kind since then! I helped you with- (Lizzie's TK hand slap on his mouth)
[Lizzie] (Grins) Nah, that's one story you won't be sharing, little brother.
[Raz] (muffled) Hey!

[Promt suggestion] Milla walks in on raz and lili making out and she gives a very embarrassing talk with raz.
Timeline: Near future. Raz and Lili are both 15 years old.
It was a pretty quiet Saturday afternoon in the Vodello-Nein household. Sasha was in his office, fixing up some overdue paperwork and Milla hummed a song as she went around the house picking up laundry as she went. She hadn’t heard her son in almost an hour now. Last she saw him, he ran past her saying something about his plans, but since she was busy and a bit distracted, the only thing she managed to pick up was ‘-with Lili in-‘. So she figured he was hanging out with his girlfriend, and perhaps any of the Junior Agents – whom were not too far away from being promoted to fulltime Agents - too.
As she passed her son’s room, she noticed a pair of socks – among other items of discarded yesterday’s clothing - laying in front of his door. Milla let out a sigh, and with a flick of her wrist the clothes levitated into her laundry basket. “Why did I even bother giving that boy his own laundry bin he begged for last week?”
A familiar scratch in the back of her head tickled her, making her smile as she recognized her husband’s mental touch.. ‘Because he’s longing for more independence from ‘overbearing parents’, as would any 15-year old teenager his age?’
Milla giggled. “Back to your papers, husband, for they won’t fill in themselves.”
A hearty chuckle resonated in her head. “Unfortunately….” She soon felt the connection break away again, leaving Milla with her own thoughts.
Milla looked at Razputin’s door, letting out a heavy breath. Knowing Razputin, his room would be littered with clothes. Such a shame, certainly because he was so much like her when it came to fashion and wellbeing of his clothes when he was younger. So fussy about keeping them as fabulous as possible, as long as possible. But alas, little ducklings grow up into hormonal teenagers as well and will look to tear themselves away from mama duck, looking for their own place in this big blue pond that is the world.
Milla smiled. Not that Raz really tried, though. He was often mentioning about being ‘too big for that, mom’ a lot, but still he would snuggle up to her whenever they’d watch a movie together. He’d always be her little boy, no matter how much he tried to act mature.
She shook away her thoughts and walked over to his room. She’d normally let Raz’s room alone – trying to teach Raz some responsibilities about tidying his own room. But if he was insisted on leaving his dirty laundry around, she’d clean now and give a lecture later.
She opened the door …and froze at the sigh before her. Her teenage son was in his bed, his equally teenage girlfriend Lili on top of him, her shirt seemingly halfway on it’s way to be taken off. The two teens let out a startled yelp, with Lili quickly rolling off Razputin, scrambling up while she tried to fix her outfit.
Raz sat him, giving his mom a venomous look. “Damnit mom, haven’t you ever heard of knocking?!” He asked, his voice a bit too harsh.
Milla dropped her laundry basket, her lips two thin lines on her face. A silence fell over the room. Raz, realizing what he just did, turned bright red.
“Uh …so-“
“Lili, darling, I think it’s time you go home, don’t you think?” Milla asked calmly, her expression neutral despite the overly sweet tone in her voice – which brought shivers down the two teenagers’ backs.
Lili quickly grabbed her jacket, giving Raz a quick wave. “Yes, Milla. Sorry about that Milla. I’m going now Milla. Please don’t kill my boyfriend, Milla.” She turned to Raz. “If you survive, give me a call, okay?”
“Now, Lili.”
Lili squeaked. “Gone! Bye!” She quickly ran out of the room, running into a side table by the sound of it. They heard the front door open and slam shut.
Only Raz and Milla were left in the room. Milla took a deep breath and walked over to her son, who shrunk further in himself with every step she took. By the time Milla had reached his bed and sat down, he was holding his breath.
Milla sighed, her gaze fixed on the wall in front of her. “Razputin, I do not appreciate you raising your voice against me.”
Raz gulped. “Mom, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to-“
“And I certainly do not like it that you used profanity at me, too.”
Raz shrunk. “That …was an accident. It came out before I realized it.” He explained in a tiny, soft voice. “I mean, you startled me and Lili – NOT that I’m blaming you are anything, but-“
“And what were you and Lili doing?” Milla asked, snapping her gaze at her son.
Raz let out a squeak. “Okay, okay, I don’t know what you think it it looked like, but-“
“I think it looked like you and Lili were making out quite passionately, Razputin.”
“O-kay …so, you do know what it looked like, but-but-but I can explain. Me and Lili were just hanging out here, watching movies and such, just minding our own business and I commented on how nice Lili’s hair looked today and good she smelled and w-well …one thing let to the other. I mean, she’s my girlfriend, right? It’s not like we never-“
“Raz, you are not in trouble for …making out with your girlfriend.” Milla stated, her expression slightly amused for a second before it sterned again. “I’m not a naïve person, darling. I do realize you and Lili are very close, and you two act on it, in the same way you have seen me and Sasha express our love for one another. You’re a passionate person, Razputin. You’re a Vodello, after all.”
“So …I’m not in trouble?”
“I’m not finished.” Milla stated. “I do, however, would like to ask you one thing: if I hadn’t stepped into your room just now, how far would you two have gone?”
Raz tilted his head, his expression confused. “How far would-“ His eyes turned wide and he quickly waved his hand in a frantic dismissive manner. “Oh, oh, mom, no! Me and Lili weren’t gonna- I mean, I wasn’t going to …just kissing, not …the other thing.”
“Well, I’m glad to hear you two never had such intentions, but two hormonal teenagers in love in a room alone could potentially end up in those types of situations. You and Lili are getting older and your bodies are undergoing constant changes, which make you look at one another in different ways then when you were younger.”
Raz groaned. “Mom, I had ‘The Talk’ with dad last year.”
“And now I’m having my say as well, querido.” Milla stated, a teasing smile spreading on her lips. She noticed how Raz visibly relaxed at this sight.
She placed a hand on his cheek and smiled warmly at him. “Razputin, I just want to implore you that you and Lili act responsibly. Not only for your sake, but especially for Lili’s. I realize that, if the two of you ever decided to take the next step-“ She grabbed Raz by his chin, giving it a light squeeze. “-that the two of you wait until you’re both old enough!” She pulled him closer, looking him dead in the eyes. “You understand me, Razputin?”
“Loud and clear, mom.” Raz squeaked.
Milla released him with a smile. “Good. Glad to hear you take this seriously.” She pulled him into a hug, which he promptly returned.
“I’m really sorry I yelled at you, mom.” Raz stated as he pulled away from the hug.
“And I am sorry for not knocking first.” Milla said. She booped her son on the nose. “Seems we both learned a few lessons today, didn’t we?”
“Yeah, I’m gonna need a lock for my door, for instance.” Raz joked.
“Never gonna happen, darling.” Milla patted Raz on the head and stood up. The laundry basket levitated off the ground, into her arms. She stopped in the doorway and looked over her shoulder. “Oh, and please clean your room, darling. It’s like a pigsty in here.”
Raz let out a groan. “Yes, mom…”
“Good boy.”
Milla walked out the room, closing the door behind her. She let out a heavy sigh and smiled. “Teenagers... no-one said motherhood would be easy.”

Razputin Vodello 2: The Tides of War - Chapter 4: Infiltrating the Syndicate
‘So far, so good.’ Raz thought to himself – and to the others - as he and the rest of his team waited in the hidden compartment bay at the bottom of the cargo ship Gisu had prepared for them. With him were Lili, Lizzie – with the two of them in a tactical get-up – and Norma, who was busy with the final setup of her communication equipment. While Raz and his team would rely mostly on radio-silence unless in the direst circumstance, it also provided a link with the rest of the team that had remained on the mainland with emergency response units. If anything would go wrong, they could relay a message to HQ.
Lili looked over to him, giving him a nervous smile. ‘No signs that they’re on to us?’
‘I’ll check.’ Raz closed his eyes and used clairvoyance to connect to the mind of the one of the Agents that were posing as crewmen on the upper deck. He soon saw blue skies and calm seas, and a burly pair of hands holding on to a mop as they were scrubbing the deck. A scratch in the back of his mind told him the Agent acknowledged his presence. ‘Agent Sanchez, how is the situation?’
The Agent didn’t answer, but instead directed his gaze towards the starboard – or was it port side? – of the ship. Raz saw a big crane unloading cargo containers – probably some other supplies were stashed with the Psilirium. He suppressed the urge to whistle when Agent Sanchez looked up at the giant oil rig the Syndicate was using as a base.
‘That’s a big rig.’ Lizzie commented, who had joined in the clairvoyance session. ‘You guys are gonna have a heck of a time navigating that, even with the plans Forsythe managed to dig up.’
‘Hollis’ intel has never failed us in the past, so why start now?’ Lili added. ‘I’m a bit more concerned about the oodles of bad guys on every corner.’
Raz had to agree – with both statements. As far as he – or rather, Agent Sanchez – could see, there were a lot of armed men all around the rig. Raz recognized some of the men looking over the unloading process. He had thrown several of them in jail personally. He wasn’t surprised they were out again, though, considering the Syndicate seemed to have gained a lot of pull these days.
The rig itself was massive, even for oil rig standards. Raz had looked into the facility’s history as to prepare himself. Seemed it was a rather ambitious oil drilling project of the Brazilian government, with less-than-satisfactory results. Afterwards, it got repurposed and retrofitted with the intention for it to act as a maritime observatory and deep-sea research facility, but after that didn’t bare any fruition as well, it got abandoned. After that, it seems that the Syndicate managed to get their hands on it, and they’ve been shipping out their ‘produce’ from their out ever since.
Feeling he wasn’t gonna get any more intel this way then they currently had, Raz ended the clairvoyance and let out a silent sigh.
‘No sign of the big man himself.’ Lizzie commented.
‘No surprise there.’ Norma answered, finally breaking her silence. She swiveled around her chair – which she had Gisu bolt to the floor, so the waves wouldn’t throw her around while she was working – and folded her hands on her lap. ‘The Baron is notoriously known to be very much absent with most of his operations, preferring to lead from the background. Probably to do with the fact he is wanted in most parts of the civilized world.’
To the untrained eye, Norma was a beacon of calmness and serenity; an exemplary attitude of an Agent ready to undergo a mission. She had trained herself to always present herself with an air of professionalism, but Raz – and he figured that Lizzie had noticed it too – saw that Norma was nervous and anxious. It was the little things: the way she had pursed her lips together in a thin line – something she might have picked up from Agent Forsyth -, the way her fingers were digging into the back of her hand or how she hadn’t taken her eyes of Raz since she had turned around.
‘Something wrong, Norma?’ Raz asked. Lili turned around at this question, throwing a concerned look at the older Agent. Lizzie cocked her head, her expression seemingly asking that same question.
Norma sighed, leaning back into her chair. Her frow burrowed and she rubbed her chin in thought. ‘It’s my first time taking the lead in a mission like this….’
‘Uh, no it’s not.” Raz commented. ‘I’ve seen you take charge a lot of time’
‘Yes, but those were either in the field or I was backed up by another Agent.’ Norma grimaced. ‘This is my first true solo op.’
‘What are we, Swish cheese?’ Lizzie asked with a grin.
‘You know what I meant.’ Norma replied, a ghost of a grin tugging at the corner of her lips. She folded on leg over the other and placed her elbows on them, letting her chin rest on her folded hands. ‘I meant that I am in charge and the outcome of this mission largely depends on how I manage the Agents, your infiltration, exfil, things like that. It’s … daunting.’
‘Well, if someone can do it, it’s you.’ Lili commented with a smile. She walked over to Raz and tapped his head. ‘After all, you managed to keep this one and all those other ragtag collection of rambunctious interns in line back when.’
‘Hey!’
‘Ahem, weren’t you part of that rambunctious collection as well?’ Lizzie asked with a sly grin.
‘Exactly my point.’
Norma giggled silently. ‘Thank, Lili.’
‘No prob.’
Norma’s expression, however, turned concerned again, her brow furrowing even deeper. ‘It’s not just that, though. It’s also …’
Raz noticed how her tone faltered and looked up from his gear checkup. ‘Norma?’
Norma took a deep breath. ‘There is this …nagging feeling that’s been bothering me ever since we’ve arrived here.’ She explained. ‘Something feels …off.’
‘As in…?’ Lizzie asked.
‘Don’t know… I can’t explain it.’
‘You know, it’s a shame that Elka went into the fashion industry instead of getting her Psychonauts Specialist Certificate like so many other we knew at camp. She’s a master in using Precognition …even if she only uses it to get a feeling what the next year’s trends are gonna be.’  Lili chimed in, letting out a sigh. ‘We could have used a Precog Specialist on the roster so we could be warned if something wasn’t right.’
‘Even if so, it wouldn’t do us much good anyway Precognition only gives a ‘vision with the most likely outcome of events that is greatly influenced by choice and circumstance’ and never a precise picture. It’s still guesswork, even with the most talented of precogs.’ He turned to Norma. ‘Are you thinking that we should postpone the mission?’
Norma shook her head. ‘No, no, we aren’t going to get a second chance on this. We do this here and now. It’s probably just my nerves anyway and I’m not going to risk messing up an op just because I’m feeling a little queasy.’
Raz wanted to say something, but a sudden rumble that went through the ship stopped him. Norma spun her chair around and looked at her screens. Raz dropped whatever questions that were lingering in his mind and went back to giving his gear a final inspection. He didn’t need to ask what was going on. The ship had started moving, which most likely meant that the business up top had been concluded. The ship was probably being escorted away from the rig.
The job of those on deck was done …now it was him and his team’s turn.
‘We are moving away from the rig, so I officially declare this mission started.’ Norma announced, swiveling around to face the three others in the bay. ‘From here on out, we’ll be using code names. My call sign is – and I would like to point out that Gisu has suggested these and I didn’t have any say in them – Ice Cream Parlor.’ She rolled her eyes at the snickering of her colleagues. ‘Yeah, real professional. Laugh it up; you’re next and your code names are...”
She pointed at Lizzie. ‘Gelato.’
‘Exotic. Nice.’
Norma moved over to Lili. ‘Soft Serve.’
‘It’s sarcastic, I like it.’
She turned finally to Razputin and the grin that was forming on her face was making his one drop. ‘Slush puppy.’
Lizzie let out a sound that sounded like a mixture of a snort and choking while she forced back a laugh. Lili’s shoulder shook as she held her hand firmly against her mouth to keep herself from laughing.
Raz projected the image of a middle finger into his dear friends’ minds, pulling his goggles over his eyes with a silent groan. ‘Next time, I’ll come up with codenames.’
‘You’ll have to take that up with Forsythe, Slush Puppy.’ Norma commented nonchalantly as she spun back to her screens. She stayed silent for a moment while Lizzie playfully ruffled Raz’s hair.
“The Syndicate escort has broken off and are returning to the rig” Norma spoke up suddenly, making Raz and the others jump as her voice suddenly echoed through the empty bay. She presumably felt secure enough to forgo the telepathic conversation for the moment.
Raz cleared his throat, having been silent for so long it had started to feel a little dry. “Okay, let’s get ready, team.”
“What makes you team leader, Poots?” Lizzie asked, grinning mischievously. “I’m the oldest of us three.”
“Yeah, and I am the only official Agent of our little trio, which makes me more qualified.”
“Can you guys please act like it’s an official mission and be professional about it?” Norma asked loudly, but Raz had noticed the amused hint in her voice. She looked over her shoulder, a glint of mischief in her eyes. “Don’t make me turn this boat around.”
“We’ll behave.” Raz promised with a chuckle. Teasing or not, Norma was right. A bit of playful pre-mission banter wasn’t a big deal, but they were on an important mission and they needed to have all their wits about them. This wasn’t going to be easy. “Okay, we’re ready.”
“Good to go.” Lili added.
“Yeah, I need to go take a leak, can we wait for a bit?” Lizzie joked. Judging by the way the temperature in the room slightly increased for a moment, Norma had reached her limit for jokes. Something her sister luckily picked up on. “Okay, okay, I apologize. I’m ready for assignment, Agent sister Natividad.”
“Better…” Norma sighed. “If only a little…Okay, we are reaching our drop point. Get ready to jump, squad.”
The trio made their way towards a hatch in the floor, which Norma opened for them with a push of a button. The hatch, which was one of the modifications that Gisu had installed for the mission, opened with a metallic screech. The sea rushed under them, a mist of cold water splashing on them.
“Okay, I’m ready to engage the diversion in 3 …2 ….1 …now!” Norma pulled a lever on her console. Immediately, Razputin heard a groan echoing through the ship, like a beast letting out a dying roar. Red warning light started flashing in the bay, and probably the rest of the ship. Judging by the current, the ship was steadily slowing down until it come to a full stop.
“Oh dear, we are now dead in the water.” Norma allowed herself to joke.
It was little thing that Gisu had installed that would simulate a critical engine failure, complete with smoke and – she had assured them – mild, totally containable fires. If all was well, the rig would have…
Norma’s console crackled and a voice sounded. “Hey, what’s with the smoke?”
Raz didn’t recognize the voice, which meant that someone on the rig had noticed their little trick. All part of the plan.
A new, kinda rough voice sounded, which Raz did recognize as the captain of their vessel. He sounded annoyed, to the edge of total rage, it seemed. “That damn engine finally broke down. I told them fancy mechanics at the docks it sounded weird, but nooooo…. We’ll need to make some repairs before we can move on.”
“How long?”
“Couple of hours and we’ll be out of your hair.”
silence fell on the other end of the line for a long while, before the first voice spoke up again. “Fine. Make it happen. You got two hours. If yer not gone by then, …”
“Aye, aye,…”
Norma let out a sigh of relief, turning to Raz and the others. “They took the ruse, which means: you’re up.“
“Okay, here I go…” Raz took a deep breath, gathered all the concentration he could muster and extended his hands towards the water. After a few moments where nothing happened, the water slowly started to bubble and slosh around, before eventually it started to slowly part away. Slowly but surely, Raz was essentially making a tunnel they could down in. He had made it wider than the hatch, to make sure that enough oxygen would find its way down there.
Lili was looking down the hatch as the tunnel was forming. “Okay, I think you’re deep enough, Slush Puppy.” She eventually commented, a small smirk on her lips as she said Raz’s code name.
If it weren’t for the fact that Raz had to use all his concentration to keep the liquid tunnel from collapsing, he would have replied with something sarcastic. Instead, he just rolled his eyes. “Thank you, Soft Serve. Gelato, you’re up.”
Lizzie rubbed her hands together, white smoke flowing through her fingers like they were made of dry ice. “Time to work my magic.”
Lizzie knelt down next to the hatch and placed her hands on the edge. First, the area around her hands started to form a thin layer of ice, which slowly started to spread around the hatch. Lizzie let out a soft groan as the ice started to make its way down the hatch, freezing the tunnel that Razputin was making.
“It’s working.” Lili announced. “Keep it up, you two.”
“Lizzie, I think the tunnel isn’t dealing well with the pressure.” Raz commented. “Can you make the ice thicker?”
“In a moment…” Lizzie took a deep breath. “Once I get the first layer done, I’ll work on reinforcing.”
“Roger that.”
Norma looked over her shoulder, allowing herself a soft smile – and a sense of pride - as she watched her sister and surrogate brother work together. It was Razputin who had come up with the idea of combining their powers to do this. It was a favorite pastime of them when they were still interns. Raz would use his Hydrokinesis to make all sorts of structures and Lizzie would freeze them solid. More than often, they made them for Gisu who would use it to perform her next ‘most epic stunt’. Who would’ve thought that a silly game like that would have real world applications?
Only Razputin’s imagination could concoct something like this.
“How’s it going?” She asked eventually.
“Just about done!” Lizzie replied. “Just putting the final touches on the bottom. We don’t wanna crash through it, don’t we?”
“Aaand …done!” Razputin announced, letting his arms fall to his sides with a heavy sigh. He grinned as he looked down the tunnel, feeling the cold rise of from its frosty depth. “Phase 1, complete.”
“Still no sign the Syndicate suspects something.” Norma commented from her chair. She turned around. “Okay, you know the plan, Razputin. Get to the rig, get inside, find the Baron, use whatever means to incapacitate him and exfiltrate as fast as possible.”
“Got it.”
”Good luck and be careful, all of you.”
“Always.” Raz commented with a wink. “See you in a bit, sis. You ready, Lizzie?”
“Ready, Slush Puppy.”
“Ugh …Lili?”
“Yup!”
“Let’s go.” Raz levitated down with Lizzie and Lili following behind him. Immediately, he felt the temperature drop down farther and farther the more he went down. He exhaled, watching wisps of breath disperse into the air. Maybe he should’ve worn a sweater. Razputin looked up as they hovered down, watching the opening of the hatch grow smaller and smaller. He had no idea how deep they were going, but he could feel the pressure building up in her ears. It was getting darker too, so they ignited their flashlights just before they hit ‘floor’ of their tunnel.
“Okay, we’re at the bottom.” Razputin said as he activated his earpiece.
“How’s the view?” Norma’s voice asked.
“It’s ice, Norms.” Lizzie answered. “Not much too see through it.”
“I’m sorry, Gelato, could you repeat your statement?” Norma sounded neutral, but Raz could pick up the tinniest hint of amusement in her voice.
Lizzie rolled her eyes. “Ice Cream Parlor, visual is minimal and a bit frozen.”
“Roger that, Gelato. Ice Cream Parlor, out.”
“She’s having fun.” Lili commented with a giggle.
“Yeah, but we better get serious.” Raz said. “This won’t be a walk in the park. Soft Serve, which way to the rig?”
Lili fished a small device out of her pockets and checked it. “Gisu’s doodad says ‘thataway’. “
Raz smirked and extended his arms again. “Ready, Gelato?”
“Yeah, I’m not using code names anymore, Raz.” Lizzie commented as she extended her arms too. “But yeah, I’m ready.”
“And …go.”
Lizzie made a an opening in the ice at the same moment that Raz used his HK to form a new tunnel, which the former quickly started to freeze as well. And so they gradually made their way forward, forming a tunnel and instantly freezing it around them. The process was slow, since Raz had to make sure the ‘hallways’ he was making connected with each other as Lizzie was making them solid.
Even though oxygen flowed from the above them through the tunnel, it was till sparse enough for Raz to feel its effect. The fact that he had to concentrate so hard didn’t help at all. Lizzie was silent throughout it all. She probably had the hardest job so far. Not only did she need to freeze the tunnel around them; she also needed to make it thick and dense enough so it would break under the pressure. Combined with the fact that she also was making ‘support beams’ under the tunnel so it wouldn’t collapse under its own weight, Raz was more than amazed at his adopted sister’s abilities.
“Doodad says we’re approaching the rig’s entry point.” Lili announced at one point. “Just a bit more, aaaaand ….we right below where we need to be.”
Raz nodded and started to work on forming a bigger area for them to get started in. After that, he directed his HK upwards and started making a tunnel up to the rig. When the tunnel was completed, Raz dropped his arms. “Okay, we’re done, Gelato.”
Lizzie dropped on one knee with a heavy sigh. Her face was glistening in sweat and she looked fatigued. “That …was a lot.”
Raz walked up to her and knelt down. “Hey, you did amazing, Liz.”
Lizzie grinned and waved the comment away. “Yeah, I know …Slushy.”
Raz grinned as well. “That’s ‘Slush Puppy’.” He stood up, holding out his hand to pull Lizzie to her feet. “Lili and I can take it from here. You return to the ship.”
“Yeah, I’ll do that.” Lizzie agreed. “After I fortify this tunnel a bit more. We don’t want your exit collapse before you can use it, don’t we?”
“That would be preferable.” Lili joked.
Lizzie slapped a hand on Raz’s shoulder. “Good luck, you two. Go raise some hell up there.” With that, she knelt down again, placing her hands on the floor. Judging by the cracking sounds, she had started with making the wall thicker. Raz nodded at Lili and both of them levitated upwards towards the rig.
As they reached the top of the tunnel, Raz dug into his bag and fished out a stethoscope.
“Really, Raz? A stethoscope?”
“What? It’s one of Gisu’s. Especially made for situations like this.”
“It’s a bit …cliché, isn’t it?”
“Hey, it’s pronounced ‘classic’ and if it works, it works.” Raz placed the bell against the ceiling – rig‘s floor – and listened. He couldn’t detect any footsteps or voices in the room above them. He put the listening device away and nodded at Lili. “Your turn.”
Lili nodded, placed her fingers against her temple and concentrated her focus on the metal plates. A spot on the metal started slowly heating up, becoming redder and redder until it started sparking. Lili, using a finger to guide the way, slowly started to cut out a hole for them to enter.
“You’re amazing, you know that?” Raz complimented.
“Shut up and let me focus.” Lili growled softly, despite the little smile tugging at the corner of her lips.
Once Lili had managed to cut out the hole, Raz used TK to carefully push it out. They waited for a few moments, listening if someone potentially had noticed them. When it looked like they were in the clear, he radioed Norma.
“Ice Cream Parlor, we’re about to infiltrate the rig, over.”
“Roger that, Slush Puppy.” Norma replied. “Radio silence until further notice.”
“Understood.” He gestured to Lili that he was going to enter first. He took a deep breath and levitated himself up the hole. The room was dark, probably not even used by the Syndicate, judging by the junk that was sprawled around. He landed gently on the floor, looking around if no-one had heard him. When he was sure they were safe, he signaled Lili to come up.
“So, we are here…” Raz said, pulling out a map out of his bag as Lili landed next to him. He folded it out and pointed at a spot on the schematics. “We can use the elevator shaft to climb up and make our way further down the compound.”
“Where do you think Baron Breaker will be hiding out?”
“He’ll probably be in the control room, to keep an eye on his operations” Raz said, pointing at a structure at the top of the schematic. He folded up the map again and put it in his bag. “Okay, we are deep in enemy territory, so we better be careful. We’re trying to get this guy off guard. If we’re quiet and sneaky enough, this shouldn’t be a problem.”
“And if we do get caught…” Lili grinned and slammed a fist in her open palm.
Raz chuckled. “That’s why I love you, Soft Serve.”
“Shut up, Raz.”
