1978 Mercedes-Benz C111-III - Mercedes-Benz Museum Stuttgart The C111 was a series of experimental automobiles produced by Mercedes-Benz in the 1960s and 1970s. The company was experimenting with new engine technologies, including Wankel engines, diesel engines, and turbochargers, and used the basic C111 platform as a testbed. Other experimental features included multi-link rear suspension, gull-wing doors and a luxurious interior with leather trim and air conditioning. The company decided not to adopt the Wankel engine and turned to diesel experiments for the second and third C111s. The C111-III was powered by a 170 kW (228 hp) at 4,500 rpm straight-five OM617 turbocharged diesel that broke nine diesel and gasoline speed records. With more aerodynamic bodywork that gave it an air drag coefficient of 0.191, the C111 eventually reached 322 km/h (200 mph) at the Nardò Ring in 1978, and averaged 16.0 liters/100 km at 316 km/h (14.7 mpg at 195.4 mph) over a 12-hour cruise. #mercedes #mercedesbenz #mercedesc111 #dieselengine #speedrecords #experimental #mercedeslife #mercedeslifestyle #mercedesheritage #classiccars #classiccar #racing #traveling #travelgram #travel #enjoyinglife #carmuseum #museum #raremercedes #mercedesmuseum #c111 #racingcars #rarecars #vintagecars #sportcars #supercars #photooftheday #history #carhistory #prototype (at Mercedes-Benz Museum) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn-FMxToSp-/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The car used a fiberglass body shell and with a mid-mounted three-rotor direct fuel injected Wankel engine. The next C111 appeared in 1970. It used a four-rotor engine producing 257 kW (350 hp). The car reportedly could reach a speed of 300 km/h (186 mph). #mercedes #mercedesbenz #mercedesc111 #fiberglass #conceptcars #experimental #mercedeslife #mercedeslifestyle #mercedesheritage #classiccars #classiccar #luxurycars #traveling #travelgram #travel #enjoyinglife #carmuseum #museum #raremercedes #mercedesmuseum #c111 #gullwing #rarecars #vintagecars #sportcars #supercars #photooftheday #luxury #carhistory #prototype (at Mercedes-Benz Museum) https://www.instagram.com/p/Co2ttkgoGTY/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

2001 Mercedes-Benz F 400 Carving research vehicle in Mercedes-Benz Museum Stuttgart Active camber control and asymmetric tyres provide additional safety and driving dynamics “Drive by wire” for steering and brakes Xenon headlamps, LED turn indicators and use of new materials Stuttgart. As a constant innovator of automotive engineering, Mercedes-Benz sometimes takes unconventional paths. One example is the F 400 Carving research vehicle, which the brand presented at the Tokyo Motor Show (14 October to 7 November 2001) in October 2001, 20 years ago. It features many future-orientated systems, amongst which the active camber adjustment of the wheels is the main attraction: The vehicle appears to lean into the curve – in a way similar to a winter athlete on carving skis. Today, the F 400 Carving can be seen at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in the “Fascination of Technology” section. #mercedes #mercedesbenz #mercedesbenzf400 #mercedesconcept #carving #designstudy #mercedeslife #mercedeslifestyle #mercedesheritage #classiccars #abc #conceptcar #traveling #travelgram #travel #enjoyinglife #carmuseum #museum #raremercedes #mercedesmuseum #f400 #newtechnology #rarecars #research #sportcars #drivebywire #photooftheday #history #carhistory #roadster (at Mercedes-Benz Museum) https://www.instagram.com/p/CoxnpJYoJgW/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

1966 Mercedes SLX Concept - Mercedes-Benz Museum Stuttgart In mid-1960s Mercedes-Benz considered producing mid-engined successors to SL300 Gullwing. For this purpose Mercedes-Benz design department with stylists Giorgio Battistella and Paul Bracq, worked on a car, internally known as the SLX project. The oldest sketches in the corporate archives date from May 1962 and show an extended Pagoda SL with a gullwing radiator grille. Later drawings show a long road that even included shooting-brake designs. It wasn’t until the fall of 1965 that the final design was finalized and in the spring of 1966 a 1:1 scale wooden model underwent testing in a wind tunnel. Sadly, after that Mercedes-Benz Board of Management to discontinue the SLX project. The SLX study without interior then rolled into the huge vehicle collection and was almost forgotten until it was shown at the Techno Classica in Essen in 2019. The SLX prototype was an important creative development step towards the C 111, which was presented three years later. #mercedes #mercedesbenz #mercedesslx #mercedesconcept #midengine #designstudy #mercedeslife #mercedeslifestyle #mercedesheritage #classiccars #classiccar #conceptcar #traveling #travelgram #travel #enjoyinglife #carmuseum #museum #raremercedes #mercedesmuseum #slx #1of1 #rarecars #vintagecars #sportcars #supercars #photooftheday #history #carhistory #1960s (at Mercedes-Benz Museum) https://www.instagram.com/p/CoDQZHPoSrH/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Japanese Emperor Hirohito's Mercedes-Benz 770 Grand Mercedes Pullman limousine The chrysanthemums on the doors reveal the owner of this car: the Japanese Emperor Hirohito received it in 1935. A particular feature of this Pullman limousine is the special protection equipment which Mercedes-Benz engineered early on. The occupants were protected from possible attacks by steel armour in the roof and doors and special glazing, as thick as a finger, for the side windows, the rear screen and the partition.
