Got around to doing some pixel art. (Been a while since I last touched this medium). Anyways have some supposed spite art cause guardians were slept on (once again) during artmonth. (Its a little late but whatever)

Also props to @muckiemotay for the pixel art brush. The method ended up working fantastically.

he's been turned semi-eldritch because he went to rubicon with his lover, the Saint

and now he's like this!!! he has all the same powers a Guardian has, in addition to just. Being really freaking tough!!

Pulling out the guardian drawing I made a while ago :) My friends liked it, I feel like it's a bit rough around the edges

I think the guardians are one of the most interesting entities in the game. We have no idea what they are or where they came from, we just know that they stop you from reaching the void sea if your karma ain't good enough. They don't feel like purposed organisms, nor even like they're related to the ancients. The only other being we see have any telekenisis-like ability is Pebbles but, y'know, we were literally in his can where he probably controls gravity. The mysterious rings above their heads feature completely unfamiliar symbols unlike anything seen elsewhere in the game. In fact, I don't think there's a single mention of them in the game at all. Pure mystery :D

another thing I think about a lot is whether the guardians are sentient or not. I personally think they are, knowing the iterators.

imagine seeing your creators collectively walk past you, to a fate you will never have and never know. you try to hold some back, sensing that they are still connected to this world somehow, and are immediately commanded to let them pass anyway by other ancients.

once your creators are gone, you spend years not quite alone, other guardians surrounding you, but with no way of communication. sometimes, creatures will attempt to take the plunge, only for you to stop them and throw them back to where they came from. rarer times, you have no power to stop them, for they have no tethers to this world for you to pull them back with.

imagine watching the void slowly consume the other guardians, knowing you will eventually be next. and you aren’t sure how to feel.

I’ve got an OC that is basically a guardian put in place of an iterator, so maybe I’m biased with the whole sentient guardians thing, but yeah.

At least that's what I thought when I first saw em so I'm really just rolling with that idea

I can imagine guardians came after the first echos right, as they were made to keep things out that didn't have the karma to ascend safely

I kinda feel like they were early designs of iterators before the ancients actually came up with the idea of "hey we should make big calculators to do the real big thinking"

And before the iterators there were the guardians just sorta assigned to study the void sea perhaps
