22. nap for sahar/xelara please! đź’•
Send me a prompt for a micro-story!
thank you, friend! here is some sahar/xelara for you:
—
Sahar is exhausted.
Struggling to keep her eyes open, but she knows she must: there is still so much to be done, so many decisions to make—she still needs to meet with Rêzan and with Delal to sort out the appointment of the Mîr of a region she does not remember the name of.
There is so much to be done—but Xelara is so warm.
(Xelara had whisked her away from a meeting with the simple reasoning that “the Crown needs to rest” and her tone had been so decisive no one had bothered to argue with her, not even Sahar herself.)
“Sleep, my darling star.” A whisper, uncharacteristically fond and soft, and a brush of fingers against her hair.
The last thing Sahar knows before falling asleep is the soft, comforting warmth of fire against her skin.

Send me a prompt for a micro-story (accepting!)
ahh, thank you so much for sending! going with sahar/xelara for this, as i’ve been really wanting to write them for a while now. (still figuring them out!). this got a tiny bit longer than really "micro", so putting it under a cut. no warnings!

Trust has always been a tricky thing.
Growing up the way she did—always running, always hiding, even before she was left to fend for herself—Sahar learned three things more quickly than she learned anything else:
The first is that placing her trust in anyone is as dangerous as walking into a trap. Even more so, because traps are usually visible from afar, with something, something to give them away. This is not always the case with people.
The second, which is, in fact, an extension of the first, is that even if she must not truly trust anyone, she must seem as though she does. She has become practiced, in such a way that it seems to come almost naturally now, at ingratiating herself, at sharing little details that make her invisible enough: if she were to share nothing, that in itself would draw attention.
(She does not intend to manipulate for the sake of manipulating—she would never want to cause harm, but survival is essential, and this is how she achieves it.)
The third and most important thing she has learned is that even if she must not trust anyone—and she really, truly must not—she must do her very best to have others trust her.
And that is the problem. All of this is now the problem.
Because now Xelara—
Xelara does not trust her, very clearly does not trust her, and Sahar's knowledge of this has left a taste in her mouth that she does not like.
(She would much rather know the taste of Xelara's lips, her skin; run her hands over her muscles and emphatically not think about why Xelara's lack of trust seems to sting so far beyond what should be normal.)
It has thrown Sahar off-balance, this—it has left her so very close to unraveled, that she wants to trust and be trusted by this woman she does not know, this woman who used her as bait (and Sahar cannot blame her for this: she knows she would have done the same thing, of course she would have done the same thing).
Sahar, don't try to turn me into someone I'm not.
Xelara had said that, knuckles brushing over Sahar's cheek, green eyes blazing, smirk on her face. It made something tighten in Sahar's stomach.
It's a reminder Sahar would do well to keep in mind for herself, too, lest she find herself coming undone.
