Summer 1993. Paleontologist Ellie Williams gets asked to take the tour of a lifetime on an island theme park off the coast of Costa Rica. She soon discovers there are greater forces at play than her attraction to a certain paleobotanist—and that nature will pave its course, no matter the consequences.
Written for EllieDina Week, with one chapter for each prompt.
Something unexpected happened today in my quest for the forest sage. She’s younger than I expected. She, in fact, can do magic. And she is - apart from capable, strong willed and brilliant - quite enchanting. I would say more than any other person I’ve ever laid my eyes on. I was at a loss for words. I think I made a fool of myself in front of her.
Dina invited me for a walk in the park. Some sort of picnic but just the two of us. I don’t want to make a huge deal out of it but I’m hopeful even then.
There are not many bars where we can go to be ourselves. I could get arrested for ‘impersonating a man’ or some bullshit like that. Yesterday Dina suggested we just go to her place today. Just the two of us. It’s unexpected because she likes dancing and she didn’t invite anyone else. ‘Won’t you miss your friends?’ I asked her. She shrugged and said next time we can invite some over and dance. I asked if she wanted me to bring my guitar and she agreed but more than anything she just wanted to be with me.
Alone.
I’m sweating and shaking as I write this. We have kissed but nothing more. I am even unsure if that kiss meant anything. Maybe it did. She asked me if I didn’t mind it was just us. I told her I don’t care. As long as I can be with Dina, I’ll take my chances. I didn’t tell her that though. I don’t want to get my hopes up but what if…?
