You shared a watery smile with Junmyeon as you listened to the vows being spoken around the wedding venue right now. He beamed back at you, mouthing that he loved you. You raised your hand to your chest to let him know it was mutual and then turned back to the couple before you, your tears spilling down your cheeks when Kelsi choked on her words.
You never had expected to feel this overwhelmed watching your longest friend get married, and to Chanyeol, Junmyeon’s business partner, no less. You also weren’t prepared to look beside you to Ayla now sobbing openly, her hand clamped over her mouth to muffle some of her emotions. Smiling, you reached for her free hand and gave it a squeeze.
Weddings were just beautiful to be a part of.
And once Kelsi and Chanyeol were announced as husband and wife, you watched their first kiss together, glancing behind the loved up pair to Junmyeon again. You could tell he held the same thought as you did right now as well.
You could still taste that very kiss from your own wedding two years ago.
And once the photographer had taken enough photos of the wedding party afterwards, you moved into your husband’s arms, staring up at him lovingly. “It was beautiful.”
“Yes, you are,” he murmured before kissing you softly.
“Junmyeon,” you chided when he pulled away, smiling at you mischievously. “I meant the ceremony.”
“So did I. You looked beautiful the whole time.”
“Which wedding are you talking about?” you wondered with a small smirk and Junmyeon tenderly ran his hands over your bare arms.
“Sue me for thinking of our wedding, Mrs Kim. Though this one was very nice, and you look breathtaking today too.”
“You’re wicked.”
“You’re the reason I couldn’t concentrate. I’m happy for Chanyeol and Kelsi, but I can’t help but think of our special day either.”
“I’m guilty as well,” you admitted with a giggle and Junmyeon grinned, pulling off his suit jacket and slinging it over your arms. You shook your head in wonderment. “How do you know whenever I’m cold?”
“Isn’t that my duty as your husband?”
“What’s mine then as your wife?” you asked and Junmyeon leaned in so he was close to your lips again.
“To accept all my love.”
“I do that every day, you cheeseball.”
“Look who’s talking,” another voice commented and you turned to see Ayla standing there, dabbing another tissue under her eyes. “You’re both cheesy.”
“Jealous, Ayla?”
“Intensely. When does the bar at the reception open? Maybe if I drink enough wine, I might feel less lonely.”
You smiled and stepped over to take your friend’s hand. “Or maybe you can accept that you keep making eyes with Oh Sehun and go share a drink with him.”
“And what, suggest he takes me on ten dates? That might have worked for you and Kelsi, but it won’t for me.”
Junmyeon chuckled. “You never know, Y/N was adamant it wasn’t going to work for her and now look at where she’s at.”
You glanced up at your husband and smiled happily.
Those ten dates sure had a lot to answer for. And knowing Kelsi had tried the concept with Chanyeol herself only made it seem more dreamlike. Admittedly, Chanyeol had needed twelve whole dates before he decided she was the one for him.
You had known much sooner than that.
The reception wore on and toasts were shared, along with more tears – mostly from Ayla. She had cried at your wedding, and now she was crying on Sehun’s shoulder, the tall man attempting to calm her down as Kelsi and Chanyeol shared their final farewell before taking to the honeymoon suite in the hotel the reception was being held in.
And as you moved up to your suite for the night, you felt Junmyeon’s love before he even reached to taste it from you once the doors were closed.
Much later, now entangled against his bare body, the moonlight cascading over his skin, you leaned in to kiss his arm gently, leaving a trail of kisses until you found his swollen lips. You were spent from all your love-making, and further, from the day.
Weddings were beautiful, but they were also exhausting.
“Love you, Y/N.”
“Love you too.”
“Can I ask you something?” he said a moment later and you opened your eyes to cast your gaze to his face. Despite his satisfied, love-drunk appearance, Junmyeon was strangely curious and the tiredness within you was replaced with curiosity. You nodded once. “I noticed, you know.”
“Noticed?” you echoed, your eyebrows knitting together.
“Mm,” he hummed into your skin, kissing your bare shoulder. “You didn’t take a single sip of alcohol tonight.”
“Oh, that.”
“When were you planning on telling me?”
“I’m not sure if I am or not, but I didn’t want to take any chances.”
Junmyeon kissed your neck before continuing. “Have you taken a test?”
“It came back positive this morning.”
“No wonder you didn’t tell me,” he breathed, sounding relieved that you hadn’t known long. “Fancy taking a pregnancy test on the day of our best friends’ wedding.”
“It’s not the right time to go announcing anything like that. Let them have their honeymoon first,” you mentioned and Junmyeon nodded against you. “But I think we’re pregnant, Myeon.”
His hand immediately moved to your torso, rubbing at it affectionately. Giving him a look, he laughed at you. “I’m doing this to promote growing vibes.”
“That’s not how babies are made.”
“No, I’m well aware of what it takes to make one,” he replied lowly, the embers that had died within his eyes from your passion heating back up. “So if one hasn’t started growing in there yet, I’ll just have to keep trying.”
“Is that so? Do I need to be pregnant?”
“I want a mini-you.”
“That’s not fair, I want a mini-you first.”
Junmyeon chuckled. “So, twins?”
“Why am I not as outraged as I should be about this?”
“Because you want it as much as I do. Our family is growing.”
“Is this what you imagined when you were younger?” you asked, referring to when he had crushed on you as a teenager. “Did you ever think you and I would end up married and debating over how many babies we want to have?”
“I don’t think I was quite so ready to consider children when I was barely done with being one myself. But I was hopeful for a lifetime with you.”
“It’s so weird to think you hoped for that. How did you know back then that I was the one?”
Junmyeon smiled. “I don’t know, it’s just always been you for me. Maybe you’re my soul mate.”
“Maybe I am,” you mused, leaning in to kiss your husband. Pulling back, you grinned. “When we’re back home, let’s make an appointment to confirm if I’m pregnant or not.”
“Sounds good to me.”
You soaked in his elated expression, running your hand over his face gently, in hopes you could feel the emotions under your fingertips. You couldn’t love this man more even if you tried. Smiling, you thought back to when it wasn’t like this for you, when you had almost turned him away. How foolish your past self had been towards such a pivotal person for your world. Your smile grew and Junmyeon pecked your palm as it crossed paths with his mouth.
“What are you thinking of now?”
“You know, I don’t think I’ve ever thanked you for liking me so much.”
“You don’t have to thank me for liking you.”
“I do,” you countered, sitting up a little. “Had you not fought for us back then, I would have walked away from all of this.”
“You’re right.” Junmyeon became thoughtful. “Okay, so maybe a thank you is in order. And you’re welcome. I knew I wasn’t going to let you go by me this time around. So thank you for staying with me after Italy.”
“Which Italy trip?” you asked with a giggle, having returned to the place where the magic had truly started to happen between you for your honeymoon. This time you had taken a month there, and whilst you still loved the place, it wasn’t your dream anymore.
Junmyeon was.
“Both. You could have decided after the honeymoon that married life didn’t suit you.”
Rolling your eyes, you shook your head. You fell silent as you continued to think about the earlier parts of your relationship. One thing stood out to you. “We never finished all ten dates.”
“We both agreed we didn’t need to count them anymore. Besides, we’ve had hundreds of them since then.”
“Still… can I count today as the tenth one?” you asked and Junmyeon waited for you to explain. “Remember when you said; give me ten dates to see if there was something worth trying for?”
“Baby, we’re married already. You can’t say no now, you definitely said I Do two years ago.”
“Humour me,” you stated and Junmyeon smiled, knowing he had asked you to do just that on that fateful first date.
“Okay, today is the tenth date. Was it worth dating me this long?”
Leaning in closer, you nodded as you cupped his face in your hands. “You won’t regret being with me forever?”
“God no. Forever seems too short anyway.”
You nodded in agreement. “Good, because after ten dates with you, I only hope for an eternity more of them.”
“An eternity with you?”
“Would you rather just another ten dates?”
“Let’s space them out if that’s the case,” he encouraged, holding up both his hands so he could eliminate fingers as he counted. “A pregnancy date, sleepless nights with a newborn date, crying together when we drop them off at school for the first day…”
“You’re clearly only thinking of me being pregnant now. What about us? We don’t go missing just because we’re going to have a child.”
“Twenty years together,” he tacked on, and starting listing off other events that would lead up to your elderly years.
“Let’s have our very last date when we stop breathing,” he announced with a tearful smile, joining you in being overwhelmed of the future together. “A death date might be fun.”
“By then, we might be excited to return to how we look just now too.”
“You’ll age beautifully, I just know it.”
“I can’t imagine a day where you won’t be handsome to me,” you breathed and he nuzzled you affectionately. “Well, we did say until death do us part.”
Junmyeon shook his head. “We don’t part in death. Didn’t you just ask if I would be with you forever?”
“Stop before I really start crying, Kim Junmyeon,” you whispered and your husband caressed your face, trailing his thumb under your eyes.
“Give me your forever,” he requested earnestly and you choked a little on your tearful laughter.
“Just forever in total?” Junmyeon nodded at your recycled line from your first date. You nestled into his chest, listening to his heart beat erratically. “Alright, let’s see where forever take us.”

It hadn’t been a horrible date. Conversation flowed freely between you, and you could tell he was genuinely listening to you when you spoke. The food was delicious and his smile had made you return the gesture more than once. In fact, if you were to simply look at the man, he was absolutely gorgeous from head to toe. You could tell under his pale blue shirt that hit up the gym regularly and was in good shape.
Despite being the CEO of a multi-million corporation, he was easygoing, polite and humble. He was sheepishly honest, from his life goals to how his last date had ended like. He shared the same morals as you seemed to, the same bad humour, and it turned out you even grew up in the same area when you were younger. To anyone else watching on, it would appear that you had finally found your perfect match during this animatedly spoken first date.
However, Kim Junmyeon didn’t make your heart race.
He didn’t make you weak at the knee or excite you enough that this could go any further than dinner. There was absolutely nothing wrong with him, it was just that… he reminded you too much of yourself. And that was the whole reason you were feeling rather deflated right now despite your well-timed smiles and polite gestures.
Because you had hoped to find someone who was the opposite.
You had dated one too many guys who reminded you of yourself that you were now looking for someone more daring. Definitely spontaneous. The type of person who you were uncertain about with what could happen next both as a couple and on an adventure. With Junmyeon, you could see what the future held all too easily. It would be sweet, romantic even. And then you would fall out of love again, uninspired to continue with someone who felt like a copy carbon version of yourself once the honeymoon period was over.
You didn’t want that any more, and further, you didn’t want to put Junmyeon through that either.
He was far too sweet to dive into a relationship with, fully knowing that one day you’d simply be looking at a companion and not sparked to jump into his arms and head off to the bedroom.
Call it a late quarter-life crisis if you will, but you craved someone who would wreck you a little, and show you the wild side of life since you had lived on the straight and narrow all this time. You were successful from your diligence and you hadn’t ever tasted anything outside of long hours of hard work. There had been no detention in school, no late assignments and definitely no failure. And whilst all those things in the past would have given you an absolute heart attack, now, you realised you were fully grown and had nothing but accolades on your office wall to show for it.
You needed to shake up who you were.
Kelsi had been wrong in telling you that Junmyeon would be the guy to do that for you.
Still, he hadn’t done anything wrong. And instead of sending an SOS to your best friend when you were freshening up in the bathroom between dinner and dessert, you waited until the meal was completely wrapped up before leaving. The last thing you wanted was to play this guy.
“It was really lovely meeting you,” you enthused, smiling warmly. “Thank you for such a lovely meal.”
“It wasn’t what you wanted though, was it?” Junmyeon replied, his eyes regarding you with a glimmer of hope.
He wanted you to convince him otherwise, even if your standoffish body language right now was speaking volumes. He knew there would only be one date as well.
“It’s not that I don’t think you’re wonderful, because I do,” you mentioned, grappling with a way out of this. You didn’t want to make an excuse, he deserved better than that. Rearranging your purse’s strap over your shoulder, you nodded. “However, I don’t think it would be right to meet with you again.”
“I see.”
“I wish you all the best, Junmyeon,” you stated, thrusting out your hand for him to take. He was torn as he stared at your extended hand, knowing if he took it that would signal he accepted this. That this dinner had essentially become an interview and one he had failed to entice you to accept him. You silently implored him to reach forward and smiled when he seemed to do so. And then he lifted his hand up to his hair instead, avoiding the business transaction-like farewell.
“You too, Y/N. Do you need a lift or?”
“I can get myself home.”
“Of course you can,” he agreed distractedly, blinking a little too fast.
He was crushed.
Turning, so Junmyeon could recompose himself without you staring on intently, you nodded. “Drive safely.”
You then began to walk off at a normal pace as not to offend him any further. Your heart was thudding in your chest from your cold response to the man, even if you knew you had done the right thing. Still, you didn’t like disappointing anyone and had the shoe been on the opposite foot, you knew you would be much the same as him. You could commiserate with his dejection.
Your phone vibrated in your hand and you glanced at the screen to see the incoming message. Unlocking the device, you swiped into the message and then pressed the call button in the corner.
“So, how was it?”
“Kelsi, he was too wonderful!”
“Well what’s wrong with that?” your best friend enthused and you groaned out loud as you walked towards the closest bus stop. Taking a seat, you shook your head at no one in particular.
“I didn’t feel anything.”
“Well, it was only the first date, Y/N.”
“Normally you feel something though, don’t you? Something has to entice you forward, to -- oh my god.”
“Oh my god? What does that mean?!” you vaguely heard Kelsi say as your hand slowly dropped away from your ear, your eyes rounding with surprise.
You hadn’t expected this.
Junmyeon had evidently run all the way to you, holding up a hand to ask for your grace as he caught his breath. And then he stepped closer, his eyes determined. “Give me another chance.”
“What? Junmyeon, I-”
“I know you’re probably thinking why is this guy hanging on to me when I said I wasn’t interested. It must make me look a fool but I really enjoyed tonight. I don’t know exactly what your reason is for thinking there’s nothing more to explore, but I feel differently. Let me show you more. Let me take you on ten dates.”
“Ten dates?” you echoed, your mouth then moving without words actually forming.
Junmyeon pressed on whilst you attempted to register his request. “It’s not a losing aspect. If I didn’t think there was something worth trying for, I would let you walk on by. I still will now if you feel strongly that it’s not something you want to try. But I do hope you’ll consider my offer.”
“We’ve already had one date and-”
Junmyeon nodded immediately. “Okay, let me have nine more with you. Just humour me on this. I really think we have something.”
You hated being put on the spot like this because you knew what was going to come out of your mouth. You could see how genuine he was about getting to know you more, and the guilt within you washed away the feeble arguments that had formed. You couldn’t see a way out of this situation without causing a scene.
And so, you stopped chewing on your lip, your deliberation complete. “Ten dates in total?”
Junmyeon relaxed, nodding again. “If at the end of it all you still feel inclined to say no, I won’t ask anything more of you. Right now, if I didn’t ask for another chance, I knew I would regret it for the rest of my life.”
Your gaze grew curious at his admission, wondering what he was seeing in his head about you that you couldn’t quite comprehend. You were, however, aware that your best friend was listening on to all of this, Kelsi all but screaming at you to accept.
So you smiled and nodded in agreement. “Alright, let’s see where the next nine dates take us.”

After a morning spent in bed exploring one another intimately, you had walked along the River Arno, tried delicious gelato, visited more museums and monuments than you could count on one hand and eaten your weight worth in Italian bread. Another evening was spent out until the night grew old, and the sheets in your bed were ruined by the morning. It was constant heaven and when you got into a rented car to travel to Florence for the rest of your stay in Tuscany, you had believed there was a high possibility that you had already died and this was the afterlife.
It was all too magical to comprehend otherwise.
And even with all your mental preparation, as soon as you saw the Duomo in the distance, you were a lost cause. “Junmyeon, I’m sorry in advance if I cease any type of expected etiquette from here on out.”
“That overwhelmed?” he asked as you gripped onto your seatbelt, your eyes round as saucers and breathing became harder to do naturally.
“I don’t think I prepared you well enough for the history buff within me,” you explained and vaguely heard him chuckle.
You couldn’t explain it. Being in the city with so much rich history and architecture, the birthplace of the Renaissance art movement, and the place of your dreams since you were a teenager, left you utterly speechless. You didn’t know what to look at first or if your brain could even store as much as you were pleading with it to do. The hotel you stayed in held no effect on you once you found the windows, opening them up and staring out at your current world dreamily.
You flinched when Junmyeon reached around you to offer you a drink of water. It made you blink a few times before taking it. He grinned when you finally looked at him. “I should be offering you something with bubbles right now. It might calm your nerves.”
“I’m really here, aren’t I?”
He nodded, rubbing your upper arm repeatedly and you shivered. Junmyeon put his glass down on the small tabletop before encasing you in his arms.
For a moment, even with the dazzling world you wanted to memorise inch by inch, you sighed with comfort into his embrace. Since becoming intimate with him, there was no place you enjoyed more than being buried in his chest. He was always so warm and listening to his heart worked enough to bring peace to your erratic system.
You glanced up at him and shared a grateful expression and a kiss before looking back outside. “I’m glad I’m seeing all this with you, Junmyeon. My friends Kelsi and Ayla aren’t into history like I am. Which is fine, I was going to come here by myself when the time was right. But being with you makes it all that much more special.”
“You better stop with all these beautiful words you keep sharing on this trip or I might go ahead and ruin it,” he told you, blinking a few times and then looked outside, away from your sudden gaze on him.
“Ruin it how?”
“With some little words that shouldn’t come out too early,” he admitted and you smiled giddily.
“What if they come from me first?”
“I’ll call your bluff.”
You gaped at the man and pulled back to arm’s length to pout at him. “Hey!”
“Tell me when we’re back home. This place is our current paradise and it makes everything seem amazing to us right now. Those types of words need to wait until we’re back in reality.”
You thought over his reasoning and nodded. He was right, it would be all too easy with being caught up in the moment to rush ahead and say things that weren’t needed just yet. Two months could easily be enough time for someone to fall in love, and the romantic within you was certainly gearing up for it.
However, the whole reason you were hesitant to date in the first place was from those past experiences. Once you had confessed to love in the past, it crumbled away, the illusion of your adoration replaced with reality. There was no love at all, at least, not the kind you were searching to capture you for the rest of your life.
It could wait until you returned home. Until months had gone by and this dizzying honeymoon period had eased off. That was the most logical.
Your heart yearned for a little more magic, however.
Tumblr media
By the third day in Florence, logic had all but left you. You were surrounded by a world you had travelled only through textbooks. It was right before your eyes, tantalising your senses everywhere you looked, listened and touched. When you thought you couldn’t be further impressed, you would enter another museum, exhibition or monument and fall further in love with Italy.
And with the man at your side.
As you walked around the Boboli Gardens listening to the guide over the Medici history, you found yourself thinking more about your return home than taking in everything around you. You wondered how much it would hurt to come back down to reality, to wake up in your bed back home and no longer at Junmyeon’s side. Would you be satisfied with sending him off to his dreams each night with a simple farewell over the phone instead of a kiss? Would you still see much of him once you were both back at work and pursuing the next big project? You knew he wasn’t going to just disappear from your world but you had gotten a taste of what it was like to spend time with him and you weren’t quite ready to stop doing just that.
Smiling to yourself, you decided you didn’t care how hard it would get at times; you would balance having a relationship with him. You grew excited for the comfortable moments to come, the bickering, the mundane parts to dating someone. So far, you had nothing to see Junmyeon any less for. He had ticked all the boxes you hadn’t believed he would and then some.
The adventure wouldn’t end just because you weren’t in Italy anymore.
So, when you were back in the centre of the city, you stopped walking around the Fountain of Neptune in the Piazza della Signoria and turned to Junmyeon, reaching for his hand.
“I can’t wait.”
“For dinner?” he questioned, checking his watch. “Baby, we have about an hour until our reservation.”
You stilled at the use of the nickname, your heart swelling further. Junmyeon seemed to become aware of what he said, rubbing at his neck a little awkwardly.
“Oh uh, I just said that.”
You grinned. “That you did.”
“You liked it,” he observed and you nodded quickly. A smile erased his hesitance and Junmyeon then beamed at you. “I know another secret about you.”
“I hardly would call that a secret. It’s a common nickname for a partner.”
He faltered. “Common. Maybe I need something better?”
“No,” you spoke firmly, wrapping your arms around his neck. “I love it… I love a lot about you.”
“You’re getting dangerously close to words we agreed we’d keep to ourselves, Y/N.”
“I don’t want to keep them anymore,” you announced, brushing your nose over his as you moved in towards his lips. “I can’t keep them to myself. I’m falling for you.”
“I’ve waited years for this,” he said softly and you blinked in confusion.
Years?
Junmyeon seemed lost in his thoughts. “I never expected you to say them so easily to me either.”
You tried to dismiss the moment. He’s meaning for a love like this. Not you specifically, you thought, still blinking in hope that would settle some of the way he had said it in your mind.
However, there was the unmistakable shift in his eyes, the same one you had seen back at his house, shrouding you from the knowledge he seemed to bear. You wished you hadn’t seen it. Been able to fool yourself into the sentence you told yourself, to hold onto those loving sentiments you both had shared.
Junmyeon knew you had seen it too and the confessions fell flat, straight into the fountain behind you, sinking like your heart was.
Was this the catch you had been waiting for unnervingly?
“Junmyeon,” you started, and watched as he moistened his lips in preparation of your heavy question. “What made you go on that first date with me?”
“The first date?” he repeated, trying to smile but it didn’t light up his eyes as it usually did. He was simply trying to buy time, figuring out his path forward. You implored him for an answer and after glancing around the bustling plaza, Junmyeon pointed to one of the alleys that would lead someplace perhaps quieter. You weren’t sure even away from all the people that your mind would silence, the buzz growing louder the longer you impatiently waited for his answer.
Eventually, he found a stone bench for you to sit down on, clasping his hands together as he looked at his feet. “It would have been much the same as it was for you.”
“Kelsi set me up with you. Her work colleague is friends with yours and showed your profile to her. I still don’t know why she put me forward instead of herself though,” you explained calmly despite the noise in your head. You closed your eyes, hoping it would settle it some. “Wasn’t it the same for you?”
“It was,” he stated slowly and then sighed. “It wasn’t the first time I was shown a person to go out on a date with.”
“Likewise.”
“Normally I would insist to Chanyeol that I was too busy to date because my career is in a pretty pivotal moment right now, if I’m honest. The last thing I needed was to start dating.”
Snapping your gaze to his side profile, you frowned. “Then why?”
“I couldn’t turn you down,” he answered, nodding along with his statement. Junmyeon’s eyes remained downcast and you wondered why he couldn’t look at you right now. What was so big that would make him feel less able to stare at you whilst he talked? His smile turned bittersweet. “Because I know you.”
“What? No, you don’t,” you corrected, your gaze narrowing on him. Finally, Junmyeon looked up, his expression sincere. “I really don’t-”
“We grew up in the same area and although we went to different high schools, I know you from back then.”
“How?”
“We did an interschool competition one year. You were on the history quiz team, remember?”
Your memories travelled back to a younger period in your life, growing clearer with the more thought you put into it. Junmyeon smiled again. “I was on the athletics team.”
Blinking some more, you tried to find the younger version of him in your memories but you came up blank. He seemed aware of this, nodding again.
“I don’t think you would remember me much. But I remember you.”
“Because of a high school competition, you decided to go on a date with me as adults? That’s nothing to be so concerned over; some might think that’s sweet.”
Junmyeon sighed heavily. “I liked you so much that I convinced a friend who I knew at your school to help me out. He gave me some pointers on how to approach you and then when it came time to, I was beaten to it.”
“Beaten?” you echoed and then sighed with realisation. “Do Kyungsoo.”
“Do Kyungsoo,” he confirmed with a light laugh, leaning back. “You dated him for what, a year?”
You were surprised he had known how long you dated for. Still, you shrugged. “Only for him to break it off when he said we weren’t compatible.”
“I had the biggest crush on someone I didn’t really know. I mean, I tried to know you. Once you meet someone, it becomes easy to see them everywhere. We have crossed paths in life, even as adults, multiple times before that date, you know.”
“Really?”
Junmyeon nodded. “I tried dating others but I guess the juvenile part of me who didn’t get the girl of my teenage dreams wasn’t satisfied. If it wasn’t you, I wasn’t interested.”
“Wow, you thought so highly of me,” you murmured, unsure of how to feel.
Should it be endearing? You felt a little uncomfortable thinking there had been moments in life where Junmyeon had watched you, had felt something for you and you had no idea he even existed.
“So when your picture crossed my desk, I thought maybe this was a sign. That’s why I agreed to the date. And then you politely turned me down. Was this what the universe had wanted me to understand all along?” Junmyeon wasn’t talking to you, but rather himself, perplexed over the concept. He then shook his head. “I couldn’t let you go this time. Not without trying. Which is why I came after you-”
“And suggested the ten dates,” you finished and Junmyeon nodded.
“But here we are in Italy, enjoying each other and our dream. Yours is the place and mine is… well, I guess, it’s you.”
“Can I be honest with you?”
“I hope you would be considering I’m aware how this must sound to you.”
“It is a lot to take on,” you admitted, chewing on your lip.
“I’ve been honest about my approach this whole time, Y/N.”
“Except when you acted like it was your first meeting with me.”
“Well it was, I had only liked you from afar.”
“Maybe it’s best we leave it in the past,” you stated, standing up and inhaling a deep breath.
Junmyeon didn’t join you. “Don’t you have something to say too?”
“Me?”
“Your friends coming on that second date wasn’t a coincidence.”
“That was innocent, simply a backup plan.”
“You said yes to ten dates but wanted to ensure you could find a way out if I didn’t present well?” he surmised and you nodded.
“I didn’t know what to think back then about you. I didn’t think we matched, remember?”
Junmyeon stood up and held out his hand for yours. “Can we go back to smiling and having a good time? We have only one day left in Italy. The truths we’ve confessed to, let’s navigate them back home, yeah?”
“Yeah,” you agreed, slipping your hand into his waiting one.
It didn’t feel the same as before.

The confessions in Italy only weighed heavier once back on home soil. Although you tried not to let it bother you, it did. There was so much more to Junmyeon than you had even expected. And whilst it was rather innocent and came from a genuine heart, you were uneasy.
Not by him, but by yourself.
Did you always have this habit of jumping into things too fast? You admitted to him that you were falling in love. Now over something small, you were backtracking as if those ardent confessions didn’t mean anything.
Because they did. You weren’t joking about feeling what you did for him.
However, Junmyeon was right. You should have waited. There were moments in the relationship thus far where you could tell he wanted to tell you that he had liked you for so long. You were certain it would have naturally come out at some point and in the right setting you probably would have been touched.
To some point, you were now, even if you couldn’t quite comprehend it.
“He’s liked you since forever?” Ayla asked after you explained to your best friends what had happened for you to return home and not gush a mile a minute about how fantastic everything was.
Nodding slowly, you looked to Kelsi, waiting for her to pipe up about how Junmyeon was still the dream man. Instead, she looked puzzled. “If he liked you so much, why didn’t he just do something about it?”
“It was when I dated Kyungsoo in high school so it kind of occurred around the same time.”
“Yeah but you just said he crossed paths with you more than recently. He’s an adult, he could have approached you now,” Ayla mentioned and Kelsi nodded along.
You sighed. “I know. But I can also understand why he didn’t. It’s rather odd though, don’t you think? Junmyeon and I are adults yet a lot of this relationship has been built on juvenile things like my plan to escape if necessary. Those first few dates were definitely a mess.”
“Yet, he still liked you,” Kelsi offered but Ayla scoffed.
“Yeah because he’s liked Y/N forever. He’s living out his teenage fantasy right now. How long will that last?”
“He’s genuine,” you grappled at a defence for the man. You didn’t appreciate hearing it from your friends like that, even if you had thought it all yourself. “He’s been nothing but a gentleman. He never forced me to do anything, and he never rushed a thing. It’s me who did. I think I’m the one with the problem. Each person I’ve dated, I would tell them I loved them and then something would come up. I don’t wait long enough to understand what is really love and what is just lust.”
“You live in a fairytale over romance, you always have,” Kelsi explained. “That’s why I thought if I sent a prince your way, maybe you’d snap out of that way of thinking. Kim Junmyeon is a great man and it’s uncanny that you both have a history that wasn’t clear from the start. But that doesn’t mean he can’t be your happily ever after if that’s what you want, Y/N.”
“The problem is, I don’t know what I want. I confessed to feelings that maybe were too premature and now it feels like a mess. Everything was going so smoothly.”
“And now you have an obstacle to face,” Ayla concluded, staring at you carefully. “It’s in every story, Y/N. It’s up to you whether you think you can get passed it or if you should give up before you try.”
Lowering your head, you didn’t know what the right answer was anymore.
Tumblr media
You were thankful for your return to work. It kept you busy during the day and with a new team project, you were able to extend it into the nights.
Still, you knew you couldn’t avoid Junmyeon either.
“Hey,” you spoke into your phone as you leaned back in your work chair. It had been a few days since you last talked and you swallowed back the distance you felt pushing in between you.
“Hey.”
“How’s work?” you started, cringing silently at how ridiculous that was to ask. Spinning around in your chair, you clamped your eyes shut and tried to think of something better to say whilst Junmyeon gave a generic answer. “Ah, that’s good. Do you think we could meet up tonight?”
“Tonight would be good,” he agreed, sounding more earnest than usual. You wondered if he was anxious like you were too. “Should I cook?”
“No I’ll bring something on my way over,” you replied and after arranging a time, you hung up and stared at your office wall for an immeasurable moment.
It was hard to remain focused on your job for the rest of the day and you were grateful when it was an acceptable time to leave the office, stopping by one of your favourite sushi stores before taking an Uber over to Junmyeon’s home.
He answered the door with the smile you had missed seeing every day, and for a moment you grinned back, stepping inside his home and carried the food over to the table in his kitchen. Junmyeon helped you out of your coat and then lingered at your side.
“I don’t know what I am allowed to do or not do,” he admitted, his arms loosely outstretched towards you.
It was enough of an invitation for you to step into his waiting embrace, inhaling deeply to ground yourself. It felt as if it had been years since you were last here, not mere days. Feeling greedy, you didn’t step away at an acceptable time, remaining embedded into his side until you were certain you’d forget all about why you came over tonight.
Maybe that would be best. If you could just forget about all of it, you could go back to loving on Junmyeon in the way you had begun to. However, the hours you had spent overthinking everything required attention and you finally shifted back, your cheeks pink as you tried to gesture to the food.
“I got sushi since I know you like it.”
“Should we eat first then talk?”
You nodded with a smile. “Food should never have a part in any deep discussions.”
And so you both chatted. You heard about the recent shareholder’s meeting Junmyeon had attended for his company and praised him for securing another big deal. He was equally interested in your new project proposal and asked how things were with your friends. It was all amicable and yet, you could both feel the burning questions lying just underneath the shallow ones, waiting to be exposed.
Finally, once seated in the living room, it was time to do so. Junmyeon ran a hand through his hair agitatedly. “Are you wanting to break up with me?”
“I can’t say it didn’t cross my mind a few times,” you responded carefully, playing with the bracelet on your wrist. You smiled sadly. “But I also know it’s the last thing I want to do.”
“Really?”
“I wasn’t hurt by what you had to say, rather with myself,” you confessed, angling yourself on the couch you both sat upon so you were facing him. After tucking your legs up underneath yourself, you nodded softly. “I told you I was falling in love with you.”
“Does it feel different now?”
“Every relationship I’ve had, I’ve always wondered where I went wrong. I would try to meet people who I thought matched me well, and every time it would end with me feeling as if there was no growth, no excitement. None of the initial flutters remained and so I believed I grew complacent and fell out of love. After meeting you, I don’t think that was the case at all.”
Junmyeon merely waited for you to continue, his expression curious and encouraging.
“I told people I was in love with them before I could truly feel what love was. I did the same with you too. The difference is, with you, I know I can reach that feeling. Whatever I feel right now, I know it will only deepen and become more powerful the longer I’m with you.”
Junmyeon couldn’t stop the smile that spread over his lips. “Well, that’s a relief to hear. With how everything ended on our trip, I was convinced you’d be coming around to end things tonight with me.”
“That would be the easy way through navigating the obstacle that has arrived in our narrative, right?” you mentioned with a heavy breath. “We could both decide what we had was amazing, but too much of a dream to continue. Or we could pretend nothing came up for us and continue with the loving words we expressed. Worse even, we could opt for a clean slate and start afresh.”
“Are they our only options?”
You shook your head. “I choose option four.”
“What’s that?”
“We acknowledge the way we got together wasn’t always ideal. I for one had no hope for us and reacted rather juvenile towards you. Equally, the rush I began to feel carried me too strongly into a realm that I’m not ready to fully commit to. I listened to my friends at times when I should have been listening to myself or to you. I wasn’t fully present as myself and myself only until the fourth date.”
“The real us date,” he murmured with a fond smile and you nodded, scooting along the couch, closing the distance between you.
“Let’s just be real with each other. So you liked me for years. I don’t know why you didn’t do anything about it, life is mysterious like that. However, you can tell me. And I’ll listen. I’m not prepared to let go of what I discovered in Italy with you. We’ve come too far to have a clean slate, to pretend anything. I want to be real and raw with you. You told me to wait to tell you that I felt something for you, and so now, I want to do just that. I want to grow with you until the moment I can no longer keep those words in and they scream out from every part of me. We’ve only just begun this adventure together; it’d be a shame to stop journeying like this.”
Junmyeon cradled your face in his hands, nodding as he ran a thumb over your cheek gently. “I want to go with option four as well. How long do I have you here tonight? I want to discuss as much as I can with you.”
“Well,” you mentioned slowly, trying not to let yourself come across as too eager. “I was kind of hoping you’d have room for me in your bed and time in the morning to drop me off at work or a subway station?”
Leaning in and kissing you slowly, much like your very first kiss, Junmyeon then pulled back only enough to rest his forehead on yours. “I was kind of hoping that would be your answer too.”

You had to admit when Junmyeon’s name flashed across your phone’s screen the next day you grinned momentarily before reeling yourself back in. You hadn’t stopped thinking about how easy chatting with him yesterday had gone and you had concluded it would be best to forget you had even considered making things harder between you. Even after the ten dates, if you felt the need to still say no, you wanted this to end amicably.
Still, it did feel nice to have someone calling you right now and you hit talk, biting back your grin to ease some of your eagerness. “Junmyeon.”
“It’s nice to hear your voice,” he admitted and you leaned back into your work chair, swinging around on it gently.
“How come?”
“I had five exhausting meetings today so it’s nice to talk with someone who won’t be asking me for a financial budget report.”
“As CEO, shouldn’t you be the one asking that?”
He chuckled. “I like to be involved in how the business is going. If I can’t see that for myself before reading a report, then I’m not paying attention enough. Anyway, I didn’t call you to complain about work. I actually wondered if I could ask you out on another date.”
“Date number three, huh?”
“We’re still counting?” he asked with another chuckle and you couldn’t help but allow your smile to creep back over your face with how nice it sounded. “How’s your schedule?”
“Depends, what do you want to do?”
“I was thinking about going to see a movie with you. Anything you want to see come out recently?”
“There’s a couple.”
“Well then, I know its short notice but how’s tonight for you?”
“I could do seven.”
“Seven it is,” he confirmed and after asking for an address to pick you up from, you ended the call.
And then you sprung up from your chair, dashing into the office down the hallway. You didn’t even apologise for interrupting the conversation being held between Ayla and her assistant, beaming at your friend happily. “He called!”
“Already?” she questioned, her brows knitting together after telling her assistant she would catch up with her again later. “He’s keen.”
“Evidently.”
“When’s the next date?”
“Tonight, we’re going to a movie,” you gushed and Ayla folded her arms across her chest.
“And you’re this excited about it?”
Reining in your eagerness with a gentle cough, you shrugged. “I mean, maybe I was hasty in the beginning.”
“No I mean, you’re excited about going to the movies?”
“What’s so wrong about that?” you wondered as Ayla shook her head sadly.
“There are only two reasons a guy would pick to take you to the movies after the first date.”
“Surely it’s just a good venue to spend time learning about your movie tastes,” you offered and Ayla smirked.
“One, he’s actually not that into you and this is the gentle decline. I mean, sure, he was nice enough about us yesterday but he could have secretly been put out. A movie date is a perfect way to not need any conversation before saying see ya and then never calling again.”
“I hardly imagine that’s the case.”
“The second and most probable,” she continued, raising her eyebrow at you. “Is that he’s ready for intimacy.”
“You’re ridiculous!” you chimed but Ayla shook her head adamantly.
“Think about it, Y/N. The theatre is dark, and he’s sitting right next to you. There are so many moves he could make. If he grips at your thigh, he definitely doesn’t want the night to end with him dropping you back home.”
“You’ve watched too many movies yourself,” you concluded, your excitement dampening with her date scrutiny.
Ayla shrugged. “There’s no other reason why a movie date happens.”
Tumblr media
Everything had been comfortable since Junmyeon had picked you up, right down to the playful bicker over what was the best movie snack to have.
“I still think popcorn trumps all,” he murmured as you both got settled into your seats in front of the large screen. You glanced in his direction before popping a piece of candy into your mouth.
“Chocolate is sweeter.”
Junmyeon stared at you for a moment, transfixed by something and then he chuckled. “Have you ever tried mixing the two?”
“How?”
“Do you trust me?” he wondered and you nodded all too easily. Picking up a popcorn kernel, he gestured for you to open up. You accepted the piece and then Junmyeon reached in for an m&m from your packet, adding that in as well. You chewed, the buttery and sweet being a new but interesting mix. You gave him a look and Junmyeon grinned. “Not bad huh?”
“I won’t ask how you learned to do that,” you announced with a smile, watching as he took a piece of popcorn and popped it in his mouth. Without thinking much about it, you leaned over to place the chocolate in, just as he had done for you.
Even with the low lighting, you could see the happiness within his eyes at your approach. He chewed his mouthful whilst staring at you and then grinned. “Delicious.”
Despite telling yourself that Ayla was being foolish earlier, the way he said that sparked a little anxiety in you. Sitting back into your seat, you tore your gaze from Junmyeon’s, grateful that the trailers had started. When the lights fully dimmed, you flinched as Junmyeon shifted the popcorn container into his lap from the chair’s arm between you, your widened gaze stuck on the action and not on the screen.
Was he going to try and play a move on you after all? Did he want you to reach over for the popcorn in his lap, in hopes he could catch your hand along the way? Would he try and sling an arm around you at all?
And more importantly, as an adult, why were all these simple gestures bothering you so much? You had been on countless dates as a teenager where you had done just that. It was foolish of you to think so much about trivial moves.
However, these juvenile thoughts kept you rigid within your seat for most of the movie, waiting for the elusive thigh grip and trying to decide if you were ready to go along with it or not.
Junmyeon didn’t do anything. He was more relaxed than you were, resting his arm upon the partition at one point. He ate the popcorn without offering you any more, and apart from a couple of caught glances in your direction, he was invested in watching the movie.
You couldn’t even tell what was happening in it.
“Are you feeling alright?” Junmyeon asked once you had both left the theatre, as you blinked to adjust your focus to the brighter lights in the foyer. His forehead creased up in thought. “You were not there for most of it. Did we choose the wrong movie?”
“I was a bit cold, admittedly,” you quickly mentioned and then gasped when Junmyeon removed his sweater and tugged it over your head. The smell of his cologne encased you, much as his warmth did and you were surprised that you were actually quite cold.
“You should have told me, I would have given it up sooner,” he told you and you smiled in response. He laughed awkwardly a moment later. “However, if you’re cold that puts a damper on my plans.”
“What plans?”
“Ice-cream,” he announced and you grinned.
“Well, I have this on so I think I can handle some ice-cream now.”
“I was hoping you would say that.”
When the shared ice-cream sundae was completely cleaned up, you headed back to his car, sharing your individual weekend plans once you were back on the road. You were surprised when Junmyeon mentioned he was travelling. “Italy?”
“Yeah, I have some business there.”
“Wow, I’m jealous!”
“Why?”
“Italy is the number one destination for me,” you announced, grinning dreamily at him. “I don’t even like pasta all that much but I bet the food there is just as amazing as the architecture.”
“You should go some time.”
“Yeah, when I’m thirty. That’s the plan.”
“Why then?”
You stared at Junmyeon incredulously. “I kind of need to save for it.”
“I’ll take you,” he offered and you shook your head. “Don’t be like that, I travel so much that I have more than enough travel points to use up. We’ll do it together, okay?”
“Maybe,” you replied and he nodded easily enough at that.
“Well, I won’t be back for two weeks, so I guess there will be no dates until after then.”
“I guess so,” you lamented, surprised that you were rather disappointed. Tonight hadn’t gone the way you wanted it to in the beginning. If you were honest, you hadn’t had a date with Junmyeon where things had gone right all along. It made you regret everything, knowing you’d have to wait now.
He pulled the car over to the curb outside your apartment building and then turned in his seat after unclipping his belt. “Can I message you whilst I’m away?”
“I would be disappointed if you didn’t,” you confessed and Junmyeon nodded thoughtfully, seemingly wrestling with an idea. And then he snapped his attention back to you, his lips curling up into a wide smile. “Let me just soak you in one final time then.”
You posed for him which you both laughed at and then you fell silent. You could tell he wanted to kiss you and the feeling was starting to become mutual. Still, he didn’t lean over and take your lips against his so you unclipped your belt.
“I guess I better head in. You will have packing to do.”
“It was really nice seeing you again, Y/N.”
“You too.”
“I’ll message you,” he repeated and you collected your bag, acutely aware of the unanswered tension. Junmyeon jolted towards you, reaching for your hand, your heart leaping around in your chest. “I want to kiss you.”
“You can.”
He shook his head sadly. “If I did that, I probably wouldn’t be very productive in Italy.”
“Oh stop it!”
“I’m serious,” he told you and you couldn’t help the shy smile that crossed your lips. Junmyeon mirrored it. “I’m serious about you.”
“You hardly know me.”
“I have seven more dates to discover more.”
You laughed. “Look who’s counting now.”
“Go inside now before I change my mind,” he pleaded and you nodded, slipping your hand out his reluctantly.
It wasn’t until you were out of the car that you realised you still had his sweater on. “Oh, I should-”
“Keep it,” he urged with a giddying smile. “Maybe while I’m away you might wear it and think of me.”
You waved him off then, hugging the oversized sweater more tightly around yourself.
You already missed him.

“I cannot believe you had a guy court you so romantically!” Kelsi exclaimed as you paced the floor of your shared apartment the following morning. You had managed to get home last night and into your bedroom unscathed, not having the energy to deal with her swooning, heart-eyed exclamations so soon after your ordeal.
It was barely tolerable now as you rolled your eyes in her direction.
“I don’t think it’s romantic. I mean, Y/N said she didn’t want to meet with him again. Why are you agreeing to his offer? You should message him right now and say you’ve thought about it and you’re not interested. Why lead him on like this?” your other roommate Ayla expressed, forever the logical one of the pair. She sat down on the couch beside Kelsi and gave her dreamer of a friend a scrunch of her nose before biting into her toast. “Who is this guy anyway?”
“Kim Junmyeon, CEO of Kim Industries,” Kelsi announced and Ayla snapped up in her posture, her eyes turning round as she stared at you.
“The Kim Junmyeon was your date last night?”
“Yeah.”
“And you managed to turn him down? Wow, more power to you, my independent friend! Who needs a man?!”
“The whole thing is, Y/N doesn’t want to remain alone,” Kelsi announced, Ayla’s expression growing thoughtful.
“Then why turn him down?”
Sitting down across from them with a heavy sigh, you threw your hands up in the air. “He’s amazing.”
“I’m not following.”
“She’s gone mad,” Kelsi concluded and you shot her a look. She merely shrugged and stole the second piece of toast on Ayla’s plate.
“He’s everything you’d want in a guy and more. If, successful yet humble, funny and handsome, incredibly engaging and has a five-year plan in place, is your kind of guy.”
“Y/N, what are you talking about? That is your type.”
“And how has that fared me thus far?” you offered, both of your friends looking at one another. You groaned. “I end up falling out of whatever magic spell they placed over me. They turn boring. Or I feel as if each day is the same at their side with no excitement. I want something more than that. I don’t want to grow complacent yet again.”
“I still stand by the fact that someone like him could hardly make you complacent.”
Ayla shook her head, looking at you intently. “No, I can understand Y/N.”
“Really? Not you too!”
“So if you felt like this, why agree?”
“I don’t know! I felt bad for him. He was so certain about this being the right decision.”
“You’re curious,” Kelsi answered and you nodded.
“I won’t lie and say I’m not.” You then scooted forward on your chair. “However, I do want to make a plan.”
Ayla grinned. “I’m listening.”
“Well, I figure it’s in my court now. Yes, I’m interested in why he was so persistent, but at the same time, I know I want to have something in place to fall back onto.”
“Like, not making it easy for him?” Ayla offered and Kelsi whined.
“Ladies, we’ve all watched How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days and we know how it ends. Don’t mess with him!”
You and Ayla shared a growing smile. “Not to that extreme but I could test him.”
“Has Junmyeon organised the next date?”
“No, he said he hoped I would contact him first when I’m ready to pick up on his offer. Do you think I should suggest the next date?”
Ayla reached forward for her laptop and started typing. Kelsi leaned over. “What are you googling?”
“I’m looking up what are the best second date ideas.”
“Oh finally, someone’s thinking sensibly.”
Ayla smiled smugly. “So we can plan ways to help Y/N test him.”
“What does it say?” you wondered, moving over to see the results.
Tumblr media
You settled on meeting Junmyeon for a brunch date three days later. The articles that had surfaced in your search said that brunch dates were trending this year, and you could see why. It wasn’t too early in the morning when the rush of starting the new day could distract you, nor was it too close to the afternoon, making you unproductive when you finally got back to the office.
It also had a time-limit, and that was what you were most excited about, even though you apologised after meeting Junmyeon in the coffee shop you agreed upon for suggesting such a short date. “I have a meeting at one to prepare for so it actually perfect timing.”
“Oh good,” you breathed, sitting down, only to realise you hadn’t yet ordered. You were surprised to see Junmyeon hadn’t either.
He grinned. “I’m curious what your beverage of choice is.”
“Really?”
“Apparently they say you can tell a lot about a person by what they choose,” he explained in a serious tone and you tilted your head to the side, expecting the rest of the information. Junmyeon grew amused. “I actually don’t know anything more than that.”
Laughing at the unexpected answer, you then leaned back in your chair, holding up your index finger and judging him playfully. “Let me guess, caramel macchiato, with an extra pump of caramel.”
“Oh that’s an impressive guess!” he replied and for a moment you believed you had it right. He smirked. “Americano.”
“Iced or hot?”
“Either,” he offered and you nodded, getting up before he could do anything further. After ordering the drinks and a couple of paninis, you returned to the table to a very impressed Junmyeon.
You eyed him carefully. “You’re not put out?”
“I’m honoured actually. Most people expect me to hold out my credit card for everything. It’s nice to have someone pay my way.”
You were surprised by his honesty and it made you feel really good about your gesture. So much so, that when your food and drinks arrived you were already deep in conversation with the man and completely forgetting all about your initial hesitance when you entered the café earlier.
However, you were thrown off when you heard your name being called out.
Ayla waved energetically as you blinked rapidly.
Of course, the plan.
Whilst you had gone with a good date environment, Ayla and Kelsi had agreed to turn up and crash the date.
“No guy appreciates it when friends turn up. They get frustrated that their alone time with you is cut short.” You smiled weakly, unsure why you were more than flustered about their arrival. You had known it was going to happen, after all. “Oh uh, hey guys.”
“Friends of yours?” Junmyeon asked and you nodded. He wiped off his hand and then stood up, reaching out to shake their hands in greeting.
Ayla smiled chummily. “Are you busy right now?”
“It looks like you’re on a date, we should leave you both to it,” Kelsi attempted despite the evident admiration in her gaze at the man across from you.
Junmyeon shot you a look before shaking his head. “Oh no, please, join us.”
“We shouldn’t,” Ayla replied despite sitting down. “It’s nice to meet you.”
“Likewise. Any friend of Y/N is someone I want to get to know.”
“Really?” you asked genuinely and Junmyeon nodded.
“Well then, if you’re interested, we’ll oblige,” Kelsi breathed, nudging you not so subtlety repeatedly in the side.
You gave her a hard look and then smiled back at Junmyeon weakly.
He was easily in his element. By the time your second date had ended, Kelsi was easily a goner, and even Ayla was intrigued.
“He handled that all too smoothly.”
“Maybe it was the wrong idea to test him,” you admitted and Kelsi nodded animatedly.
“He’s an actual living breathing God.”
“Don’t listen to her,” Ayla announced, swatting her friend away. “I did like him though.”
“He was really attentive, wasn’t he?” you mentioned softly, thinking of the way Junmyeon had smiled warmly at you and held your hand just a moment ago.
“I’ll call you soon, okay?”
Maybe ten dates with Junmyeon would lead to something more than you had anticipated.

With the launch of your work project right around the corner, dating Junmyeon had become a little difficult. You were back to talking over the phone most nights, one of you falling asleep before the other did. You liked it when you woke up to see the call hadn’t been ended and could talk in the morning before getting ready for work.
Despite not meeting up, you were definitely growing attached to Junmyeon. You thought of him over the simplest of things, you messaged him when you needed moral support or a pep talk to get through the day, and you told him all your deepest thoughts as you lay in your bed, staring up at the ceiling.
You had grown curious of late. What it would be like to get ready for bed at his side? Would you be cute and giggly together or find it a hassle to share a sink brushing your teeth at the same time? What made his skin so soft, did he have a decent skincare routine that trumped yours or was he naturally akin to having clear skin? Did he snore? Move around a lot in bed? Steal the blankets? Maybe sleep talk? Even if you got to speak to him first thing in the morning and had become addicted to his husky, barely awake voice, would it be even more desirable in person? Would you fight a lot?
For someone who had only known him for a little over two months, you sure were full of questions that you craved answers to.
You realised you were more than ready for the next step, far more prepared than you had believed to be on your last date.
Now, you just needed your work commitments to ease up a little.
“I have an incentive for you,” Junmyeon announced as soon as you slipped under the covers, settling into your bedding. You glanced at the phone beside you on speaker and rolled to face it as if you were facing him too. You had adopted funny little habits since most of your time was now spent on phone calls.
“What is it?”
“Your launch date is next Wednesday, right?”
“It is.”
“And then the following week, you mentioned something about some time off?” he continued and you grinned. You had been holding out for that week for over two of them now. You couldn’t wait to sleep in, catch up on hobbies you had put on hold lately and most importantly, see the man you were talking on the phone to right now.
Grinning, you laid back onto your pillows. “A whole week! Sounds like bliss, right?”
“Can I be bold and take up the whole week?” he asked hesitantly and you frowned, glancing at the phone. It was as if he felt your silent curiosity, chuckling lightly before continuing. “I know the plan was thirty but-”
“Italy?” you cut in, sitting up.
“Italy,” he confirmed and you had to cover your mouth to stifle a squeal.
Could you? Could you actually go on a trip with Junmyeon like this? Your mind was already rushing forward with flashes of architecture and tourist spots and holding his hand the entire time through. Waking up in a new city and falling into bouts of passion in the evenings. Had you done enough in this budding relationship to go forward on such an adventure?
This thought alone stopped you. Weeks ago, that’s what you ached for. To become spontaneous, to live in the moment, to go with whatever was thrown your way, even if there were risks involved.
Junmyeon was dangling the opportunity for you to do just that in front of you. A grin crept up on your face again and you were soon nodding even if he couldn’t see you. “A whole week with you in Italy sounds like the best incentive to get me through the remaining days until my project is launched.”
He sounded surprised, perhaps waiting for you to decline such a bold offer. Junmyeon was quick to collect himself with a little breath. “Good because I already booked the tickets.”
“I swear I must have done something good in a past life to have someone like you in my life,” you murmured, still amazed that you had agreed and would be going to the place you had dreamed of ever since you studied Italy in high school. You were already trying to decipher what to pack and what you would possibly end up visiting, anticipating the architecture and the remaining art from the Renaissance era.
You couldn’t wait to see where this adventure would lead you next.
Tumblr media
When the plane touched down in Pisa International Airport two weeks later, you were stunned that you had not only gotten on a plane and gone somewhere with Junmyeon almost a day ago, but you were now on Italian soil. There was no way to contain your excitement and Junmyeon seemed to enjoy it, holding you close as you exited the aircraft.
“Airports are busy over here,” he pointed out when you looked up at him now wrapped around you and grinned, allowing him the intimate moment.
Not that you had been against all the touching since seeing him again. Even after sitting next to him, snuggling up and falling asleep on his shoulder during the flight, you couldn’t get enough of the man holding you either.
You could see this trip becoming the catalyst for a lot of impending confessions and overwhelming emotions.
For now, however, you were overstimulated by the sights and smells and the culture shock. On the taxi ride to your stay in Pisa, you peered out the window avidly, gasping endlessly and pointing out everything to Junmyeon. He merely watched your animated expression with a constant grin, satisfied with how happy you were already. And once you were standing on the tiny balcony to your room looking directly at the leaning tower across the courtyard in awe, you realised this was more than you had been expecting.
Junmyeon came in behind you and wrapped his arms around your waist. “Happy?”
“Happy is an understatement. How did you reserve us a place so close— this would have cost a fortune!”
“You promised me money wouldn’t be the talk of this trip,” he murmured against your ear, kissing the skin just below your earlobe. Swallowing as you tilted to the side to give him more access, you then sighed.
“Still, I’m being spoiled.”
“You’ve wanted to come here for so long, I wasn’t going to cut corners,” he admitted and you spun around in his grip, Junmyeon holding up his hand to stop the words you were already forming in response. “In saying that, it’s not as expensive as you might think. This is one of the cheaper boutique B&B’s in the area.”
“How am I going to make this even between us?” you wondered and he grinned, tucking some hair behind your ear.
“You could take me on a date tonight.”
You smiled. “Is that so?”
“Wine and dine me, Y/N,” he urged playfully and you couldn’t help but laugh at the suggestion.
“Where do you want to go?”
“Anywhere your wallet can take me,” he replied simply and you laughed, nodding happily enough as you thought of your comeback.
“So pizza?”
“How could we not have Italian pizza on our first night in Pisa?!”
“You’re right, it’s a must!”
“And pasta,” he added on and you nodded in agreement to that as well. Junmyeon ran a hand over your curves cheekily. “It’s carbs night.”
“Well, we’ll have to put in a lot of walking around Pisa tomorrow to make sure they don’t go and take up residence on my hips,” you compromised and he shook his head.
“Even if they do, it’ll be worth it, right?”
You bit at your lip, not wanting to tell him that anything with him right now was worth it. You were love-drunk in the best sense. A fairytale had come to life, your dashing prince taking you to a magical kingdom where the world seemed all too romantic in every direction you looked. Kelsi had been right all along, you had started to fall for someone spectacular.
Blinking away your thoughts, you looked back at the man watching you intently and tried not to smirk too obviously. “What about dessert?”
Junmyeon pulled you closer, sealing your lips with his momentarily. And then he kissed you again, this time the lust within him more evident. “Maybe we’ll have that when we come back to the room?”
“I like the way you’re thinking,” you agreed as your hands rested on his chest, your eyes glued to his. “I can tell this trip is going to change a lot for us.”
“All for the better, I hope.”
“Are we still just dating?” you wondered coyly and Junmyeon laughed heartily.
“Tonight will be date six, right?”
“Four more until I call you mine?” you concluded and Junmyeon shook his head.
“Not unless that fourth date ends with an I Do.”
“Junmyeon!” you exclaimed, gaping at the man chuckling once again. He then let out a deep breath, cupping your face in his hands and you shifted to kiss his palm gently. “After tonight I’m calling you mine.”
“What do we do with the other four dates? I thought our deal was I had to give you all of them?”
“We’ll do them just for fun,” you announced and Junmyeon grinned.
“I thought that’s what we were already doing.”
Stepping up onto your toes so you could kiss him, you then pulled back just enough to whisper, “I don’t think I need anything more to know I’ve made the right choice with you.”

You had stopped counting dates with Junmyeon from that moment out. You had already decided in Italy you didn’t need any more to know you wanted to be with him and after your confrontation over the confessions that had surmounted in the foreign country; you were both at ease with one another.
You found that Junmyeon, whilst honest with his thoughts and desires, would still hold back a little at times, worried he was travelling faster down this road together with you.
You didn’t mind the catching up part though. Junmyeon equally had more to learn about you than the girl he had crushed over as a teen. You surprised him often and he kept you on your toes too. It was a good balance of romance and realism and after six months of being together, you woke up in the middle of the night and you just knew.
You would love Junmyeon for the rest of your life.
It was a surreal moment to bask in. The immediate joy that overwhelmed you from such clarity was soon hijacked with a rush of need. You wanted him to know how you felt, you craved to see his reaction and the concept of waiting until the sun rose in the morning seemed unfathomable. You would be worked up until you spoke everything to him, and given it was just a little after two in the morning, you didn’t know how you could even sit still for the next thirty minutes, let alone hours until it was acceptable to go out.
Blinking slowly, you realised that you only had one option and after flinging the blankets back, you got up and put on the clothes closest to you, collecting your bag from your desk and then pulled out your phone. You would simply call for an Uber and go to him.
That would ease your mind and give warmth back to your bones. The mere thought of waking up without being beside him had made you shiver once you had considered all that you had.
Making your way out into the lobby of your apartment complex, you went to order your ride, only to falter when you saw the familiar car outside. Your phone fell away from your view and you vaguely threw it in your purse before heading to the exit, your movements soon rushed. It was a sense of deja vu from your date months ago when you first went to his house, though you had been expecting Junmyeon then.
Just what was he doing outside your apartment right now?
Spotting your approach, Junmyeon jumped out of his car, his eyes round with surprise. “What are you… where were you going?”
“To you,” you announced from within his chest that you had collided with, laughing a little giddily as you breathed him in. You felt grounded, at home once more. “What are you doing here?”
“I missed you and couldn’t sleep. Sometimes I just end up driving and sitting here for a bit. It makes me feel closer to you,” he confessed and you pulled back to see the bashful smile he gave you.
Stretching up to peck his lips, you smiled back. “I love you, Kim Junmyeon.”
You expected him to freeze up like he had since the first confession. To rein in his sudden joy so it didn’t burst out prematurely. There had been a couple of times where you had gotten close to uttering those words to him recently, but it never came as easily as it did now. You continued with the comparison of how effortlessly they fell out in Italy, how warm you felt all over from expressing them. You knew this moment trumped the first. You weren’t falling anymore. He had caught you and your heart and now you were certain.
Much like the way you had jolted away with the sudden clarity of your own heart, you were amazed by how readily Junmyeon accepted it.
“God, I love you so much too,” he murmured, kissing you again. You melded into one, your bodies pressed together as much as your lips were.
And then you realised how little you had put on to come out in. Or, Junmyeon did. He looked at your mismatched outfit and chuckled. “You were in a rush?”
“To tell you I loved you. Do you accept me even when I look like a right state?” you teased and Junmyeon grinned, kissing your temples gently.
“Baby, you know I accept everything about you. Except you freezing in this night air. Come on, I’ll take you back to mine.”
Once in his car, you glanced back and forth at the man beside you, trying to wrestle with the second notion in your chest right now. Sure, confessing that you loved him had come easy, but it wasn’t just that which had overwhelmed you. Knowing that you loved Junmyeon as much as you did, you no longer wanted what you had currently. Especially after finding him outside your apartment, and discovering this wasn’t the first time either.
“Junmyeon,” you started and he took his eyes off the road momentarily to look at you curiously.
“What, my love?”
You tried to contain your swooning ways and press onwards, but he lifted his hand away from the steering wheel to grab your own, drawing it up to his lips and brushed them lightly over your knuckles. You squirmed in your seat. “You’re distracting me from my serious question.”
“Distracting you how? You’re the one who told me in the middle of the night you’re in love with me. It’s amazing I’m still functioning right now.”
You whined outlandishly which made him chuckle. But he dropped your hand and nodded for you to continue.
“Let’s change things.”
“Didn’t we just do that with our love confessions?”
“Yes but I mean, further.”
“How?”
You took in a deep breath before saying, “Let’s move in together.”
“R-really?” he asked, darting his focus between you and the road. You noticed he gripped the steering wheel tightly and was struggling to hold back his smile. Swallowing visibly, he then nodded. “Let’s talk about this when I’m not driving.”
It was a supercharged ten minutes until Junmyeon turned off the ignition to his car, shooting you a brief look as he unbuckled his seatbelt. Strangely, he didn’t say a word and got out to head inside, so you followed him across the garage to the internal access door. And once you were inside, Junmyeon spun around and entrapped you against it, kissing you with demand.
Your mind swirled with immediate desire and confusion. As his passion erupted, you were carried along with the building emotion, as well as physically, to his bedroom. And once he had you down on his bed, your lips pulled away from his.
“Is this how you plan to talk about my suggestion?”
He heaved in a steadying breath, shaking his head as he tugged his jumper over his head. “This is my delayed reaction to your confession.”
“Oh, delayed is it?” you murmured, your hands now working on ridding yourself of your clothes. You hadn’t even put on a bra beneath your hoodie and Junmyeon cursed lowly when he discovered this.
“More like, it took a lot of effort to maintain myself until now.”
“We’ll talk later?”
“The answer is yes, but you already know that,” he spoke into the skin just below your ear, causing you to shudder. “It’s always yes when it comes to you.”
“Perhaps we can talk in the morning about my suggestion. Right now, I’m certain we have another type of communication that needs attention.”
Junmyeon smirked and lowered his lips to yours. It wasn’t long until your soul was singing out endless love confessions for him.

“I have to admit this happened a lot later than I expected,” Ayla announced after you returned to the apartment with an arm full of boxes.
Kelsi nodded. “I expected this weeks ago.”
“You’re both okay with me moving out?” you asked and your best friends nodded immediately.
“Please, it’s hardly moving out when you already spend more time there than here.”
“Every weekend you’re gone. And there was that week recently where you seemed to just disappear.”
“Hey!” you exclaimed with a playful push in Kelsi’s direction. “Junmyeon was sick and needed me to nurse him back to health!”
“God only knows how he coped when unwell for all those years without you, Y/N,” Ayla teased and you rolled your eyes.
“I’m sorry it leaves you both in the lurch as I haven’t exactly found a roommate to replace me. But don’t worry I’ll pay my share of the rent until you find someone.”
“That’s all you’re concerned about?” Kelsi wondered with a heavy sigh. “You can repay me by setting me up a date with one of Junmyeon’s friends. Surely since he’s such a prince, he’d have equally amazing people in his world.”
“I wouldn’t really know,” you said and Ayla snorted.
“Y/N’s too blinded by her own happily ever after that she can’t stop to help you with yours, Kels.”
“That’s not entirely true!” you bit back and then laughed sheepishly. “But I do only have eyes for Junmyeon so I can’t really say I’ve paid that much attention to how handsome his friends are or not.”
“When do you move in with your Prince Charming then?”
“He’s coming around tomorrow to help me with the boxes and then any furniture I need on the weekend.”
“Can’t bear to be away from him any longer?”
You proudly admitted to it. “It’s time for us to do this.”
“Soon there will be wedding bells,” Ayla mentioned and you smiled giddily. “Really?! You’re already thinking like that?”
“Maybe children in the next five years would be nice too,” you uttered and both women gasped.
“She’s truly in love with him.”
“I said it from the start, how could she not fall in love with Kim Junmyeon. Just remember I am the reason you found him! If it wasn’t for me, that date wouldn’t have happened!”
Shifting closer to your best friend, you kissed her on the cheek, making her giggle despite trying to push you off as you hugged her. “You are the fairy godmother in my story, Kelsi.”
“Y/N’s beyond salvation now,” Ayla commented and then grinned. “I’m happy for you, babe.”
“Me too! You finally found the right guy who you had dreamed of all along.”
You nodded as you pulled both of them for another hug. You had dreamed of this ever since you were younger. You had kissed a lot of frogs until you found Junmyeon too. But more importantly, you had found yourself at his side. You were no longer running from love or making it something that was expressed in the fairytales. Love took a whole lot more than just being attracted to someone. It meant accepting all of them and journeying with them before you could tell what your heart really felt.
Italy had been the dream and once you had woken up from it, well, it had definitely got you to this point now.
You couldn’t wait to move in with Junmyeon and see what was next for you both.

10 Dates | The Work Date

The giddy feeling from your last date with Junmyeon didn’t last long. It wasn’t due to lack of contact, both of you reached out to message the other when you could. And although you had worn the sweater to bed that night, it had been hanging on the front of your wardrobe ever since.
You just… didn’t want to jump too ahead of yourself.
In the beginning, you had been looking for someone different and Junmyeon was showing you more than you initially expected. He surprised you enough that you were satisfied, for now at least. Still, you wanted to give the full ten dates a good attempt before allowing yourself to get too in over your head with your feelings.
Besides, the time apart reflected that of your busy nature. Work was all too easy to focus on and even easier to be overwhelmed by that you didn’t have a lot of time in your day to even think of the man halfway across the world.
And because of that lack of time, you were incredibly surprised to pick up your phone and find several messages from Junmyeon within the same time zone.
Instead of reading them all, you pressed the call then speaker icons, placing the phone down on your desk as you continued to type up an email.
“You didn’t have to ring.”
“I don’t even have one hand free to message back,” you admitted, though you did pause in typing momentarily to take in his voice.
“Working too hard?”
“This week feels like four years long, not four days.”
“Have you eaten?”
“Lunch.”
He sighed. “Y/N, it’s past seven.”
“Maybe I’ll make it home by eleven,” you concluded, grimacing at the stack of paperwork beside you.
“Do I need to talk to your boss about regulating your hours?”
“I’m just counting down the hours until the weekend arrives. Anyway, I wish I had time to catch up with you but I really should get back to my emails.”
“You don’t need me talking your ear off and transferring the content into your work notes.”
“Definitely not.”
“I still think dinner is needed.”
“I’ll get something when I can and I’ll talk to you again soon. Welcome back, by the way.”
You hung up after saying goodbye, your focus slipping back to the project you were in charge of this month. You were deep in the throes of it when there was a gentle knock at your door.
“Come in,” you called out, not lifting your eyes from a report until a takeout bag was placed in front of you.
Junmyeon smiled when you looked up at him, confounded. “I told you that you needed to eat.”
“How are you … how did you know this was what I was craving?” you breathed, discarding the report to the side as your stomach overruled you with the insatiable smell of the food.
“Well, I can’t say I’m a mind reader but you did tell me that this is one of your favourite things to eat when you’re extra hungry.”
“I did?”
“Mm.” He then gestured to the door. “I bumped into Ayla at the entrance. She gave very thorough directions to find your office.”
“I bet she did,” you mused, still touched that he had gone to such efforts for you. You were halfway through your burger when you snapped your focus back to Junmyeon. “Wait, where’s your food?”
“I ate it on the way, I was kind of hungry.”
You then looked him over more carefully, noticing how wrinkled his shirt was. Placing down the burger, you pointed at him. “You came here right after getting off your flight, didn’t you?”
“You happened to ring when I was in the luggage claim,” he confessed with a wry smile.
“You should have just gone home!”
“And sat in my empty house worrying about you not eating until eleven? Come on, I made the right choice. Even your stomach is thankful.”
You laughed. “Incredibly. I really appreciate this.”
“It’s my pleasure.”
You ate the rest of your burger quietly, unsure what more to say. You were overwhelmed by his selfless gesture. It had been a long time since someone had looked out for you like this.
Junmyeon had picked up a file during the time you were eating and when he noticed your gaze on him, he held it up. “Is this what you’re working on?”
“It’s a huge release for the company next month. I keep thinking I’ll never get it done in time.”
“This is really impressive,” he stated, flicking over another page. “You came up with this on your own?”
“I have my team to thank for bringing it to life,” you replied, feeling shy with his praise. Junmyeon read over it some more and then looked back up at you, his expression now indescribable. You rested your head in the palm of your hand, sliding your elbow up onto the desktop to support it. “What is it?”
“Am I dreaming right now?”
“No, why would you ask that?”
He shook the file. “This is incredible.”
“Enough with the compliments.”
“No, I mean it. I already thought you were funny, down to earth and intelligent but wow, this is something else, Y/N.”
“You thought that about me?”
Junmyeon nodded. “That and more. It’s not fair. How does someone like you exist? I knew when I met you for dinner that there was more than the physical attraction there but damn, I’m struggling here.”
“Struggling?” you echoed, watching his ears turn red. “With what?”
“With how much I like you,” he confessed honestly, placing down the file. “God, I want to kiss you.”
You got up then, moving swiftly into his arms that caught you too easily, meeting his lips midway. It wasn’t hurried, his mouth moving at a much slower pace that your beating heart. Still, the way he caressed you blew your mind. The stars behind your eyes blinded you, leaving you reliant on your other senses. As you gasped for more air, you inhaled, growing intoxicated by his cologne. Your fingers threaded through the ends of his hair, his own now gripping at your waist and pulling you closer to his torso. Another gasp invited your tongues to deepen the kiss, tasting him as the moment grew heated.
You finally pulled back for air, certain you had just experienced the longest first kiss of your life.
And you could tell that Junmyeon was just as affected as you were.
“Was it worth the wait?” you asked as you attempted to catch your breath, Junmyeon’s head bobbing up and down immediately.
“I told you if I did that before I left I wouldn’t be productive on my trip.”
Laughing, you pointed back to your desk. “How do you expect me to finish all this tonight?”
“I’ll help you,” he offered and you leaned in to kiss him again, getting caught up in an equally long and overwhelming second embrace. Junmyeon rested his forehead against yours. “I mean, I’ll try to help you.”
“You need to go back home,” you urged with a breathy chuckle, watching as he grinned in response. “Without me.”
“That’s not fair.”
“It’s only date number four,” you pointed out and Junmyeon laughed.
“I suppose this is as good a date as the others.”
You shook your head, brushing the hair away from his eyes so you could soak them in more effectively. They swirled with adoration for you. “No, this one is the best one yet.”
“Really?”
“Mm, this is my favourite.”
“I think it’s because my lips sealed the deal,” he offered but you shook your head in disagreement. Glancing around your office, at the disarray of your workspace, and then down at your feet sans the heels you had kicked off under your desk earlier in the evening, you then grinned at the man still holding you.
“This is the real me,” you stated and Junmyeon slowly smiled.
“I mean, I probably stink from being in the same clothes from when I set out on my flight home so this is the real me too.”
“I like the real you,” you confessed and Junmyeon’s grip around you tightened.
“You’re right; this is the best date yet.”

“Where are you off to?”
Kelsi looked at your appearance and then at Ayla’s quizzical expression. She grinned. “Y/N has another date.”
“What number is this?”
“The fifth one,” you admitted with a smile, searching in the small dish on the kitchen counter and letting out an aha when you found the missing pair to the earring you had put on before. After fastening it, you turned to your roommates and blinked expectedly. “Well, how do I look?”
“What’s the theme of this date?” Ayla enquired as you smoothed down your floral dress.
“Junmyeon has invited me over.”
“Over to where?” Kelsi suddenly asked as Ayla stood up and approached you.
“To his home?” You nodded at the guess and your friend whistled. “What happened to the woman I was praising for not needing a man?”
“She fell in love with a handsome prince,” Kelsi declared, kicking her legs about before narrowing her gaze on yours. “Does he have any hot friends, do you know?”
“I uh, haven’t met his friends. And it’s just for dinner; don’t get too hung up on it.”
“Never mind that! Did you prepare yourself?”
“What for?” you wondered and after examining Ayla’s expression, you nodded softly. “I’m ready for anything that might come my way.”
“Well then, why are you asking us what we think? You should be proposing that question to Junmyeon.”
“I’m not going to suddenly blurt out over dinner if he wants to see my lingerie,” you mentioned with a roll of your eyes, though you couldn’t deny the flutter in your stomach either.
After the heated kissing session in your office during the week, you couldn’t get the man off your mind. Now that you were free for the weekend, you were more than ready to see where all that kissing could lead to.
“Don’t leave out a single detail for us when you return,” Kelsi called as you felt the buzz of your phone letting you know Junmyeon was waiting downstairs and started to head to the front door.
Ayla smirked. “Tell us tomorrow morning. Don’t you dare come home any earlier than that!”
Laughing as you headed down to meet with Junmyeon, you stopped to compose yourself when you saw his vehicle up ahead. However, it didn’t last long. Junmyeon was leaning against the side of it, his smile evident from where you stood. Eager to get to him, you dashed over the grass verge and straight into his arms.
Junmyeon chuckled, holding you affectionately all the same. “Well hello there!”
“That wasn’t very ladylike of me.”
“But it was the real you, right?” he offered and after looking up at him, you nodded happily. “It’s a nice feeling to know you missed me that much.”
“As long as the feelings mutual,” you concluded and with the way he brushed his lips over your temples, you didn’t need a verbal answer. Staring up at the man, he then silently reached behind him for the door handle, swinging it open and assisting you inside. He even did up your seatbelt which made you giggle.
“What?” he asked when he was finally seated beside you, humour evident in his voice. “Was that too cliché for you?”
“I feel as if I stepped into a Korean drama just now.”
“Does a CEO who is naturally romantic and not overdramatically making the female lead’s life a living hell until he realises this is love actually exist in those?”
“You’re well-versed in kdrama?” you enquired and Junmyeon bit at his lip as he tried to navigate the early evening traffic. Leaning towards him, you held onto his arm. “You watch them?”
“We could watch one together after dinner if you like?” he offered and you laughed heartily.
“Don’t make me guess, you’re excellent in cooking and cut food like a culinary chef too?” you continued and it was his turn to laugh.
“I mean, I know how to cook. I can’t say I have major marks for presentation though.”
“I’ll help you. We can cook together!”
He darted his focus from the road to your face and then slipped his arm out of your hands, reaching to hold one instead. Your excitement eased, staring at the gesture. “You’re meant to be my guest tonight.”
“You’re the one trying to convince me we’re meant to be,” you pointed out and Junmyeon glanced at you again. You watched as his lips curled up in satisfaction.
“Is it working?”
“Maybe,” you confessed and then cleared your throat. “But cooking together is a must.”
Tumblr media
You wished you could go back to the car ride where you had sounded so confident. Instead, you stood back as Junmyeon took the pot from the stovetop and dumped it in the sink, the sizzling of the temperature difference filling the room along with an awful stench.
You groaned loudly. Trust you to burn the potatoes completely.
“I ruined it,” you announced dejectedly and Junmyeon looked over his shoulder, shaking his head before dealing with the mess. You stepped forward, scrunching up your nose as you further inhaled the burnt smell. The potatoes had well and truly boiled away all their water and you clasped your head in your hand.
Arms wrapped around you. “We don’t need them, we still have the rest of the meal.”
“It’s my fault though. I wanted everything to go so smoothly for our dinner tonight.”
Junmyeon shook his head, tugging at your chin so you were staring up at him. “If we’re going to point fingers, it should be at me. I was the one who had you otherwise distracted up against that wall there.”
You tried not to smile, but the edges of your mouth shifted upwards. Junmyeon chuckled. “It’s just potatoes.”
“Did I lose brownie points in the kitchen for my less than stellar cooking skills?” you wondered and he shook his head, leaning in to kiss you briefly.
“You made the kitchen more interesting than it ever has been.”
“Surely I’m not the first to come home with you,” you breathed with a laugh, going to step around Junmyeon and turn off the running tap. However, he held you there, his eyes unrelenting in their gaze. Your mouth fell apart. “I am?”
“I haven’t really made the effort to date much,” he explained softly.
“Then why did you choose to go out for dinner with me back then?”
For a moment, Junmyeon simply stared at you; searching your face for something you couldn’t quite comprehend and then blinked rapidly when the oven timer went off. Stepping aside from you to turn off the tap and then reach for the oven mitt, Junmyeon smiled. “Dinner’s ready.”
Tumblr media
Junmyeon was subdued over dinner. Although he was still laughing and conversing well, there was a guarded wall within his eyes ever since that moment in the kitchen. You couldn’t decide if you were more intrigued or concerned and thus, your own mood dampened, both of you eventually falling silent over your empty plates.
“Do you want to head outside for some fresh air?” he offered and you nodded, picking up your dishes and took them into the kitchen before following Junmyeon outside. His house was already rather impressive and to find he had a decently sized garden out back made you smile.
“Oh wait here,” he instructed once on the patio, dashing back inside for a moment. You gasped when hundreds of fairy lights lit up around the backyard, turning it into a fairytale dream.
You really hoped that when you woke up from all of this, it wasn’t too painful to let go.
Junmyeon sensed your conflicted emotions and sought out your hand, squeezing it gently. “You okay?”
“I’m just thinking about all of this,” you admitted and he nodded in agreement. “You too?”
“Yeah.”
“You know, I often wonder if I made the right decision back then.” You gauged his expression before tugging him out onto the lawn, turning so you were facing him. “I was so adamant that we were too alike and dating you would lead to complacency.”
“Is that what it was?” he murmured, smiling with the solved puzzle. “I thought you weren’t attracted to me.”
“Are you kidding?!” you replied with a laugh and Junmyeon grinned momentarily before it fell off his face again. You stepped closer, running your hands up his chest before linking them behind his head. “Wanna tell me what’s on your mind?”
“It’s too soon,” he whispered and you blinked, your mind travelling to the three magical words you expected him to say. However, the moment passed with him simply staring at you and you waiting for something, anything.
Water shot up suddenly and you squealed, leaping into him with surprise before turning to see the sprinklers in the grass turn on all around you. After sharing a look with Junmyeon, you started to laugh and he joined you, not rushing from the spot you stood in as you should have.
Instead, when the laughter ceased, urgent kissing began, the heat of the kiss contrasting the chill to your body with the water soaking you through.
You realised then, you hadn’t been as prepared for tonight as you thought you were. Nothing had gone to plan. Whilst you still didn’t know what was on his mind, you decided to stop pressing for the serious moment.
It was too soon to lose the spark just yet.

Note
This week has been pretty nuts, huh? How about an escape to your happy place for a minute. Idol of your choice + your dream vacation. Fluff it up just a bit ❤
So I kind of got carried away with this one >_>
Pairing: Kim Junmyeon x female reader
World: 10 Dates
Word count: 464
________________
“Close your eyes,” Junmyeon murmured into your ear, and you obeyed his request, a smile crossing your lips. “Are they closed?”
“Why do I need them shut for?”
“Because the imagination works best when you close out the world before you.”
“Why do I need to use my imagination right now?” you continued, and Junmyeon chuckled, causing your smile to grow even larger. You were thinking of how handsome your husband was whenever he laughed and realised he was right. You were able to picture the man all too clearly even without your eyes open.
“It’s morning time, and we’ve just woken up in a different city. Bells are chiming in the distance and-”
“Florence,” you breathed instantly.
“Yes, we’re in Florence. And neither of us want to get up just yet.”
“But there’s so much to see and do there!”
“There’s so much to see and do with one another too,” he mentioned wickedly, and you smirked.
“Even after all these years together?” you asked and felt his arms pull you into his body, his bare chest pressing into your shoulder.
“Mm, you’re something I’ll never stop wanting to admire and learn more about,” he told you softly, kissing your neck before letting out a breath. “Stop interrupting me. I’m trying to paint a picture here.”
“If it gets any better than this, I’ll know it’s too good to be true,” you chimed, your hands moving so you could touch his arm around your waist. Now anchored to him, you waited for him to carry you off further.
Junmyeon described an entire vacation, mostly built off the one you first had together in Italy. You added in bits here and there, but mostly let your husband describe the most perfect getaway. He moved onto other regions in Italy and by the time he reached Lake Garda, you were absolutely swooning and seeing everything he depicted. You almost could smell the food he was describing, and your stomach rumbled with hunger.
And just as he was getting into some steamy details in a hotel room at night, your imagery was cut short by a loud wail. Snapping your eyes open, you came back to your senses, leaving Italy behind and staring at the baby monitor on your nightstand.
Junmyeon sighed. “Well, it was a nice getaway whilst it lasted.”
“As much as I love you taking me places, what we have here right now is just as amazing as Italy.”
“Even with the sleep deprivation? I don’t even remember what we had for dinner last night, let alone if I washed up before bed.”
You silenced the baby monitor and kissed your husband passionately, nodding into the embrace when you were catching your breath. “This is better than any date we’ve ever been on.”

I know it must make me look a fool but I really enjoyed tonight.

Highlights of 2020
Finally finishing my You x Idol drabble game.
Writing some series ideas that I really thought were going to be hard (Forsaken, To Be Continued, 10 Dates) and being satisfied with how they turned out
Doing some groups series, like Band Sessions and MonX Hospital, and creating an entire world.
Collaborations with my writer friends. I honestly love writing with my friends!
Writing Sungjin as a cop in To Be Continued. He wasn’t even in the original draft notes for the series but became someone so deeply important to the storyline! I feel like each year, Sungjin’s characters keep coming out on top (last year, it was his story Existence in the Spiritual Connection world that came for my soul)
Destined hitting 2k notes and still being the most popular story and series on my blog.

Things I wish had gone differently / things I wasn’t happy about
The gaps in my writing schedule - whilst I needed to take those moments, looking back now, I wish I could have remained more consistent.
The lack of variety - in some areas, I did improve but looking back on everything, it was pretty obvious I stuck to like three groups for most of the year. Of course, this isn’t entirely bad as I discovered deeper connections with some of these characters, but it did mean I didn’t get as much variety as I hoped to.
The endless hate for Forsaken and Bloodstone - two stories that I was really excited to share. I know I need to let it go, but I really don’t get the big fuss around it all.
Personal pressure - I was so busy trying to improve as a writer over and over that at times I forgot to enjoy the journey as I travelled along it.
Frightful October - that whole thing was so unfortunate and it still breaks me to think of all the discarded plans @this-song-thats-only-for-you and I had, only to not give the segment it’s final hurrah as we hoped to. This was the last year we wanted to do it as we were going to try something new for 2021, so it’s really bittersweet knowing how much of a fail October was.

2021 Goals
To complete at least ten series
To either write the ideas that have been sitting in my ideas file for sometime, or to let them go... holding onto them for a rainy day so to speak isn’t going to work
Always aiming for variety but also accepting that there are some groups I just naturally have an affinity towards and that’s okay
To try and write more details into my worlds. This way, I’ll be adding more depth and word count - which isn’t a bad thing to be practicing if I wish to attempt writing longer pieces for eventual novel preparation
To collab with some other people than I usually do. I’m not very brave at approaching others but I want to give it a try! (please if you want to collab with me, feel free to message me haha)
I dunno why but it makes most sense to me to put Mayday6 in May, so it’s kind of a goal to make that happen then lol
Figure if I’m going to open another prompt list up for requests or offer sporadic requests - either way, bring in some fresh ideas from my followers at some point
To be uncaring about genres I choose. If I want to write four royal au stories in a row, then so be it (I have a lot of royal and regency au ideas, someone please make me stop dreaming about being a princess or wearing pretty dresses lmfao)
Whilst scheduling to me is important, not pressuring myself to stick to the same format of writing each week/month. I’m not burned out, but I am bored of the same thing time and time again.
Admittedly, this one is one I can’t not ask of myself - make a pile of writing so I’m ahead again. I like the feeling of having stories to fall back on.. but also allowing newer stories to jump the queue if I’m most excited for them.
Tumblr media
Phew! What a year I’ve had! There’s been some amazing moments not captured in this list, and amazing people who I’m forever grateful for. Thank you for supporting me!
May 2021 bring some really awesome personal writer growth and fun for this writing blog!!
