It's hard to believe it's been two years since I wore Nuala, but I finally dusted her off this week for the #virtualpopexpo costume contest! While she didn't win anything, I'm not too disappointed since she's already had a couple past wins and it was fun just to practice the makeup and take the time to fix some issues I'd had with the wig before. Since day 13 of #fallforcostume is #blue and I've already posted the heck out of Dolores, I'm going with my #nuala cosplay! This was a big year for her also, since wearing her for the masquerade at #wondercon was my first time actually competing, and even though I just got an honorable mention from the con and a workmanship award from Costume-Con, it was still amazing for my first masquerade! Nuala was one of my first big, complex projects, since the outer dress is entirely silk and I sewed it all with French seams before dyeing it, and had to make the undershirt and skirt and belt to all cooperate with the weight of the dress. (and my wig never wants to behave. More WonderCon pics! All of Saturday night still feels somewhat surreal, but I'm still amazed I got anything since it was my first masquerade! I also got another craftsmanship recognition from #costumecon , but that one won't feel real either until I actually have the certificate! One "quick" hour and a half makeup test later, and I think I remember how to do this! At this point I'm fairly good at gluing my eyebrows down, so they're finally barely visible under the greasepaint. Three sets of hooks and eyes, a snap, and cuff trim later, and Nuala's finally actually done! She was completed in a rush for WonderCon last year, so I never actually got the closures right, and the collar and cuff trim arrived too late for the con, so I had to finish hand sewing a ton of bits last night. The belt still needs some perfecting, but that can wait. Doing a little last minute painting on Nuala's book before putting it away! Istg this was the one thing the body paint on my hands would transfer to, so I've had to repaint it after each time I wore her this year. This time, though, I'm going to actually seal the paint so it can just be wiped off later!
