This is going to be long and barely coherent/word salady but here you go friend Merin :)

Okay so... Deck of Phoenix. Prefacing this with with the fact DoP's message is about finding your own way to deal with trauma of all kinds. All of the characters have their own trauma and deal with it in different ways for better or worse LOL! LMAO! The main 6 we have for the cast are Neptune, Vikki, Teresa, Twilip, Ichigo and Salem. Salem is Ollie's OC that got absorbed into the story and became one of the linchpins in Ichigo's backstory (Childhood friends who were kinda romantic then shit happened and then OUAHGAHFDHGgeF anyways)

The magic system in the story is really complicated to explain because it really only makes sense in my brain at the moment and it's supposed to be universal across many different alien worlds :) Hehe! Did I mention this is a fantasy sci-fi? In the way of a fantasy world in a sci-fi setting!!! HEHEHHE!

Every person/soul is born with an ability that aligns with two sigils (magic types) and it can range from something extremely powerful and useful to something that never even manifests. An example of the latter would be a character we have; she seemed powerless until she died because her power was to revive permanently when brought back by a necromancer. Back to the main characters! Neptune canonically has schizophrenia, he has the ability to see the future of someone when he looks them in the eyes, which is how the story starts and also how he finds out he saves the universe from an evil tyrant called Paradox (Name might be temporary, idk lol) But yeah he has a character arc that might be spoilers so i'll explain on discord but it makes his schizophrenia so so soooo much worse <3 <- Projecting my problems onto him. (Also he is the only human in the group)

Vikki's powers are under construction but! She is basically the glue holding the crew together and is a satyress :3 She likes ballet and is the sweetest person you'll ever meet unless you get on her bad side HFGJEHFVQ Also she's built like a centaur and it's so cool to meee cuz I love drawing non-human characters

Teresa is like if Doc was a Loverboy and also a necromancer >:) I'm thinking about giving her the weird gender swag just to make one of the others the only cis person in the group TKYURLF (Twilip) Xe's an alien from a desert planet and is kinda a cyclops lynx/kangaroo mouse and she kinda looks like a vortigaunt now that I think about it..

Twilip. How do I even explain... He's like if Boomer (bubby x coomer) was a person tbh.. Cranky old man who gives tutorials and worked at a library and he misses his late wife so so much :( BUT he has a swag ass pen that can make drawings come to life and he's about the size of a cat btw if you even care <3 /ref

Ichigo... WHERE DO I START. Ichigo's been our OC since we were a KID! So they technically have the deepest lore due to sheer time scale soooo.. They use any pronouns with a preference for they/them and ze/zir and zir sooo everything to me <3 Imagine Leading Light with cloud's buster blade and soooo many more insecurities... Yea :) I can't even begin to dive into their backstory because I will be here FOREVER but long story short, canon system allegory with being 3 souls meshed into one body by the US government to be a super soldier (A human, an alien, and an inter dimensional being) and the alien part is destined to destroy the universe but that's beside the point! Teehee!

For Salem I suggest asking Ollie because I don't wanna misinterpret anything about him <3

do you have any tips or tutorials for making clothing mods? i want to put in custom clothes so bad but all of the loverslab tuts arent very helpful

I'd love to help you, but I don't really know any tutorials, I kinda figured everything out by fumbling around. If you're just looking into making mashups I have this guide, but it is /very/ much a wip and may not be very clear.

The best way to get into modding is by digging through game files and other mods, get an idea for how the game handles textures and material files so you can make your own. Once you understand how to format a mod and what types of files you need it kinda 'clicks' how to make a mod.

I found learning to convert outfits from one body to another a very good introduction to making outfits, it teaches you the basics of using outfit studio to manipulate meshes and add animation weights. This is the guide I reference.

99% of what I do is look at vanilla assets and ask myself 'how can I copy this?' You can also find a mod similar to what you want to make and poke through their files.

Here is an ask I've answered before with useful links.

Getting custom outfits in the game is more complex than I could answer in an ask, but I can give you a very brief run down. This not a guide.

If you're looking to import outfits from other games you need to get them in a format you can open in blender. from here you can export them as an obj, or straight to a nif with pynifly. In theory you can attach materials and add weight here but I prefer to use outfit studio.

Convert the textures to what the game is expecting, if you're porting from new games you'll have to do some editing to get them to work with fo4s old diffuse, normal, spec (specular on red channel/gloss on green) system. This is different depending on what game you're ripping from, I just use my best judgment. I use photoshop to edit textures and icestorms toolbox to convert them to dds. Set the files up, copy a vanilla material with similar properties to what you want, and point it to the new textures.

Getting a custom outfit in game is a lot like converting an outfit from one body to another. Import the obj file into outfit studio and attach the material file you created to it for the textures to appear. Open a reference mesh, and just like converting outfits you will use the tools to make it match the body shape and add animation weights, and export it as a nif.

Original custom outfits are a whole 'nother kettle of fish. Making the model is the bulk of the work, and is not specific to fo4. You can follow any 3d modelling guide for game dev/real time for this. This will take a long-ass time, and if you have no experience in 3D it will be a massive learning curve. It took me probably 6 months of noodling before I started making anything worthwhile. My first mods sucked. My mods now are still pretty rough.

I watched a few of the flipped normals tutorials to get familiar with blender. Blender is not the easiest to use, but it's free and you can find tutorials for nearly everything. Any time I need to do anything I look up a tutorial for it.

You will be making 2 models, your high poly with all of your details, and a low poly that will actually appear in game. If you open any of the vanilla assets you will see that they are very low poly, all of the tiny details come from the normal maps that you bake from your high poly model.

Basic asset creation for a game is hipoly > retopology > unwrap > bake > texture. For clothing I started all my hipolys in marvelous designer, then cleaned them up and retopo in blender.

Marvelous designer is great if you have a background in textiles, if you know how to draft your own patterns or work from commercial ones you can easily put together realistic outfits. It is also stupid expensive, but it has a free trial. I don't have this anymore because I can't justify paying $400 a year for a program I use maybe once a month.

I use Retopoflow 3 to retopologize my models in blender to make my low polys, its technically paid but it is free on their github. I unwrap in blender and use UVPackmaster 2 to pack islands, it is a paid addon but if you do a lot of modelling it is worth it. Most people use zbrush for all this but that is notorious for being difficult to use and is beyond my skill set.

I bake maps and do textures in substance painter. If you've used photoshop before you'll pick up substance quickly. I work in the default pbr shader and convert to fo4's weird shader after, so that I can use all the smart materials made for modern shaders. Substance painter is expensive but so worth it if you find you enjoy making models. Don't get it through adobe unless you need the creative cloud space or assets it comes with, its cheaper on steam and you get to keep it forever.

Then I edit the textures in photoshop, convert them with icestorms toolbox, put everything in its proper place in the file structure, and start the 'fun' process of weighting everything in outfit studio and making the plugin. I hate this part. I wish I could just paint textures all day.

I'm hoping to make an accessory for valentines day and I'll try and keep records of the process to put together a sort of...not really a guide but to at least show how I make a custom asset and get it in game, from concept to plugin.

Sorry this is so vague but making mods is a big topic and hard to condense to an ask. If you have any more specific question please send them my way, I may be more helpful.

Part 16: Pouring a Drink--Condensation

After completing the donut tutorial by BlenderGuru, I was challenged to create something similar by myself, so I made a burger. I will make that burger into a meal with a soda and fries.

In the last parts, I showed how to make carbonation foam and fizzy bubbles. Now, I'll reveal how to add condensation to the outside of the glass.

Adding Droplets

In a previous part, I showed how to add dewdrops to tomato slices by creating metaball instances with geometry nodes, a method that is shown in this tutorial by Weil Labed. This method was problematic from the start, requiring multiple workarounds.

In Blender 3.3, metaball instances may show up in the render preview window but disappear in the actual render. Using Eevee, you can go to View and select Viewport Render Image; however, the resolution may be less than what you'd get from an actual render. Since we are using Cycles as the render engine, I had to move on from metaballs.

Joey Carlino offers an alternative method of generating water droplets with geometry nodes by converting Points to Volume and Volume to Mesh.

Start by creating a duplicate of the soda glass. Add a geometry nodes modifier with these nodes and values.

In weight paint mode, paint the entire glass blue and then paint warm colors where you want your droplets. Under Object Properties > Vertex Groups, name this weight paint “Big Drops.”

Repeat the process a second time, adding smaller droplets. Increasing the voxel amount will yield better resolution on a smaller scale. Create another weight paint vertex group named “Small Drops.”

I used the same node setup but with these values:

• Drop Density Multiplier: 6000

• Distribute Points of Faces > Distance Min: 0.002m; Seed: 9

• Random Value > Min: 0.13; Max: 0.35

• Volume to Mesh > Voxel Amount: 1000

There are now water droplets on the glass, but at a glance, they can be easily mistaken for carbonation bubbles. How can we get a more integrated effect?

Painting Drip Trails

Blender Guru combines image textures with a particle system that instances a collection of droplets.

I liked how some of these droplets had trails behind them. This is a good method if you have the water rolling down a flat surface; however, with a complex curving surface, like we have on our glass, the trails would stick out unnaturally as instances.

Jonathan Kron demonstrates a method that solves this problem, using instanced particles in combination with dynamic paint to create trails in the roughness of the texture of the container.

It turns out that dynamic paint works just as well with geometry nodes as it does with the particle system.

Let's make some drip trails for the big droplets!

With the Big Droplets selected, go to Physics Properties and add Dynamic Paint with these settings:

• Type: Brush

• Paint: Mesh Volume + Proximity

• Distance: 0.001

With the Glass selected, add Dynamic Paint with these settings:

• Type: Canvas

• Format: Vertex

• Frame End: 19

• Drip: Checked

• Weights > Gravity: -1

• Output > Wetmap Layer: Click + sign

If you run the animation now, you’ll notice the trails being painted up are a bit messy and out of sync with the droplets. To fix this, add a Subdivision Surface Modifier to the glass set at 2 and drag it above the Dynamic Paint in the modifier stack.

On the Dynamic Paint canvas, under Cache, click Bake. This will produce an attribute called “dp_wetmap” which can be dragged into the Shader Editor of the Glass to drive the texture.

Adding subdivisions to the glass helps to get a cleaner wetmap, but at the cost of nearly maxing out my graphics card. To prevent failed renders, it is necessary to reduce the load.

Our wetmap is operating as vertex color, which is intrinsically tied to the vertices of the highly-subdivided mesh. In this form, the wetmap cannot be transferred to a lower poly mesh. How can we get around this problem?

The answer is baking. We can bake this wetmap to an image texture which can be used on a simpler mesh.

Connect the color sockets between the wetmap attribute and a diffuse shader. Add an image texture node and create a new 4K image with a black background and no alpha channel. Add a UV map node and connect it to the vector input of the image texture node.

Create a new UV map named "Drip" to be referenced by this UV map node. Since we already have a UV map for the Coca Cola logo, we will be working with multiple UV maps.

Go to Object Data Properties > UV Maps and click the + sign to create a new UV map. Open the new black image in the UV Editor, mark seams in discreet areas, unwrap the UVs and position and size the islands to maximize the area taken up by the drip trails.

Go back to the Shader Editor and select the name of the new UV map in the UV map node. Make sure the image texture node is selected. Then, go to Render Properties > Bake. Set the Bake Type of Diffuse and make sure only the Color Contribution is checked under Influence. Bake and save your image to the hard drive as "DripTexture."

Now, we need to transfer the "Drip" UV map from the high-poly subdivided glass ("source" object) to the low-poly unsubdivided glass ("target" object).

Go to Object Data Properties > UV Maps on the source object and make sure the UV Map for the drip texture is active. For the target object, click the + sign to add a new UV map and make sure it is active. Select the target object and then the source object. Go to Object > Link/Transfer Data > Copy UV Maps. The new UV map of the unsubdivided glass object will be replaced by a copy of the drip texture UV map from subdivided glass object.

Set up the following nodes for the low-poly unsubdivided glass.

Feed a UV Map node referencing "Drip" into the Vector socket of an Image Texture node referencing "DripTexture." Invert the color and add a Color Ramp to decrease the maximum brightness.

Using vertex paint, paint the entire glass black. Paint white on the outside of the glass below the level of the liquid, creating a soft transition at the level line. Add a Color Attribute node and reference the vertex paint which needs to be named "Col" to avoid render problems.

Feed the Color sockets of the ColorRamp and Color Attribute nodes into a Math node set to Multiply. Feed the result into the Roughness socket of the Tricky Glass Shader.

This effect looks good on a metal can, but increasing the roughness on a glass material makes it difficult to see the details on inside the glass, the ice cubes and carbonation bubbles we worked so hard on.

Adding an Image Texture

To add more spaces where the roughness is lower and further integrate the droplets to the glass, I decided to add another image texture.

Blender Guru uses multiple materials and adds a condensation texture to his coffee glass.

Create a new UV map for the Glass and name it “Condensation.” In the UV Editor, bring up the Condensation Image Texture in the background.

Mark seams around the base and the fill level of the glass. Choose a discreet place to mark a seam down the side of the glass. Select the glass and UV > Unwrap. You might notice that the result is somewhat curved, causing the texture to stretch along the glass.

To fix this, we need to use a different unwrapping method.

Add a camera and change the lens type to Orthographic. Name the camera “UV Cylinder Projection.” With the camera selected, go to View > Cameras > Set Active Object as Camera. Position the camera to face the vertical seam through the glass as shown in the image below.

Drag the UV islands outside of the Condensation Image Texture. Then, select only the island where you want the texture to appear on the outside of the glass.

Go to UV > Cylinder Projection. Set the Direction to View of Equator. That island should now fill the whole square of the image texture, maximizing resolution without stretching the texture.

In the Shader Editor, drag in the Alpha Masked and Normal textures for the Condensation. Feed a UV Map node into the Vector input and use a Mapping node to scale them. The Normal texture will drive the Displacement while the Alpha Masked texture will contribute to the Roughness of the Glass Shader. Use a Vertex Color to control where the condensation appears on the glass.

The Foggy Texture creates some randomness in the application of the condensation and the Bottom Gradient decreases the amount of condensation as you move down the glass and away from the ice.

Combining Effects

Pulling it all together requires an even more complicated node tree, but essentially all that is left is to add the Wetmap Drip Texture frames and feed it into what we already have.

Organizing node trees into frames is a good way to communicate your process to your future self and to others. Whole segments can easily be copied from one material to another.

Finally, we have completed our soda!
