Not to be the annoying k-ent moot lol but as a BOF/TotNT enjoyer and Kim Beom fan club leader, have you seen many of his other dramas? 👀
@no-where-new-hero
Hi @no-where-new-hero !
You know what? I admit I haven't seen any of his other shows beside BoF and TotNT. I would probably watch "East of Eden" next because he reportedly chews the scenery in that. But maybe "The Woman Who Wants to Marry" would be good since I like rom-coms?
Tumblr media
So here I come with other recommendations. I am in the thick of three dramas right now:
Tumblr media
Hometown Cha Cha Cha
Tumblr media
Has a lot of second-hand embarrassment at first but you have to push through the second and third episodes when it settles in and gets good. Has Kim Seonho, who is perfectly annoying and charming as Chief Hong. (Justice for Good Boy! and for the record I still support KSH because his ex-gf sounds like she has a lot of issues and I hope she gets some help.)
Imitation
Tumblr media
If you've been Atiny long enough, you start to wonder why people randomly sprinkle "Finally, now, it's my time" into conversations and what the injoke is. "Imitation" features one of the absolute worst songs in K-pop after Jopping and Baggy Jeans but I love that the actors/idols promoted the songs absolutely seriously on the music shows and committed to the bit. It's pretty campy but the fan wars parts hit home. Beware it jumps the shark in episode 6/7 but I'm still watching it- I am a loyal Fin!
The King's Affection
Tumblr media
I have to admit, this may be a DNF. Theoretically it has all the ingredients I love: Kwon Eun Bin, historical costumes, palace intrigue! But I just am having trouble sticking with it. Maybe it's the pacing? Maybe it's that the protagonist has to be a frozen popsicle to survive? (The protagonist rivals D.O.'s character in "100 Days My Prince" for cold fish.) I am trying to force myself to finish it so I can move on to "Extraordinary Attorney Woo" and "Castaway Diva."

Round 2 is over, and both New Leaf darling Marshal and New Horizons darling Raymond have been eliminated! Sorry to any of you who had money on either of them taking the whole competition.

Hey, so here’s my lil’ mini review of SHINee's 8th album Hard after listening to the whole thing twice:
Hard: First time I listened to it was from the mv, and I wasn't sure about it. And so after listening to it twice more via the album, I'm set in just not caring for it. Like, there are parts of the song that I love, like when they harmonize while singing Ohh~, the Hard like a criminal part, the bridge and classic high note at the end of it--but still not the full song. Like some parts felt too disjointed but not even in a good way. So, yeah this might be the first title track from them that I don't care for. Oh well, I know the b-sides will be amazing tho 'cause it's them~
Juice: Ooh the beat for this! 'Kay, I'mma have to disagree with my faves in that I think that this should've been the title track instead of Hard. Like it has Kenzie and Dem Jointz and Adrian Mckinnon as the writers? It was destined to be fire! So I can safely say, so far this is my top song lol. (This does feel like the sister song of DCM though, so I do kinda get it not being the title track at the same time since title tracks shouldn't be too similar.)
10X: Oooooh, such a smooth song already just from the start. Makes me feel expensive like I'm sauntering through a romantically lit downtown era with shopping bags in my hand lol. A nice finger snapping, foot tapping song aka it's really really nice!! SHINee never disappoints with their vocals and harmonies bruh <3. Another top fave!
Satellite: Gave me a nostalgic feeling right away, and kinda reminded me of an older song of theirs. This is such a pretty song, especially the chorus when they go all Ahhh~, really helps make the song feel lifted and light <3. Taemin being at the front as they sing really helps with that as well ^^.
Identity: Immediately thought this was a Key song 'cause it's sumn he would choose for his album (which is a great thing) with the retro yet futuristic vibe the song gives. Anyways, this is a nice bop!
The Feeling: I've already heard this one a few times from the pre-released mv, and it's still real nice. Love the brass, and drumkicks in the beat plus their vocals ofc :3.
Like It: That chorus is real nice! Song is like the definition of quintessential poppy SHINee--just feel good and bright~ I def like this one a lot hehe.
Sweet Misery: Song's okay, like I love the beat and melody but the chorus is a bit of a let down.
Insomnia: Song's also okay though once it got to the 2nd chorus, I started really vibing with this one lol, paying attention to the swing feeling, the piano etc.
Gravity: This is the closest to a ballad in this album, and they once again sound so beautiful together. And I really dig the punchy beat when they sing "Gravity, gravity, yeah" during the chorus. A really nice end to the album imo!
And so my favs from this album in order are: 10X, Like It, Satellite, Gravity, Identity, The Feeling, Juice, Insomnia, Sweet Misery >>>>>>>[a wall], Hard.
TL;DR: Another solid full album from 5HINee <3. It's not the type of album with like a whole new sound for them, bells and whistles, theatrics or whatever but not every album has to be like that. This one's a nice vibe with the bright, punchy side at the start leading towards the wistful yet beautiful latter end of the album. I'd def recommend listening to it, just for their vocals that always shine through and how they blend with each other so well. And as always, I look forward to hearing what they'll do next <333.

Devlog: The Music of Omega Timeline: Poppy's Story (... And Poppy Buys Milk)
Tumblr media
Howdy folks! It’s me, Fms. On today’s special occasion, I wanted to take a moment to talk about the process for the soundtracks of Poppy Buys Milk, and thusly, Omega Timeline: Poppy’s Story in general.
As most of you know, I've done a concerted effort to produce a original soundtrack for Poppy's Story on my own. It wasn't generally a requirement- most of the story is told through comics and non-audio asks, but I generally wanted to give the AU its own flair— and mostly as a excuse to do the "Music Videos" showcasing several of the Areas in the Omega Timeline (which I want to get back to doing, those were really fun).
But when videos, and notably, the game, became a consistent thing I do for Poppy's Story, it was evident I couldn't just use Undertale and Deltarune's soundtrack, they simply didn't fit the situations depicted.
Though that said, while there is no shortage of callbacks and utilization of Undertale and Deltarune leitmotifs in the sountrack (Such as Snowdin/Dating Start, Reunited, Hometown, Once Upon a Time, and the handful of iterations of Uwa,) the soundtrack for this AU is mainly built on a handful of foundational motifs to represent the Omega Timeline itself, and to represent characters (such as Poppy herself).
For instance, here is Omega Timeline’s A, B, and C motifs, laid bare for you to listen.
You'll notice that these leitmotifs are repeated across a lot of the songs for both acts of Poppy's Story. And indeed, for this game, I brought myself to make a lot of new arrangements for a lot of the buildings and events in the game.
Below is a small sample of what I've accomplished in the last year and a half of development:
What do you think?
There are some songs I've had to update for this game overtime, such as Timeline Plaza's theme.
Now, the timeline plaza IS a really good track on its own; one of the most popular songs in the Act 1 soundtrack, even. But for the game, it didn't quite fit the vision I had for the Timeline Plaza in game (not to mention, you spend a lot of time in the timeline plaza, and the song didn't feel varied enough to carry the time spent).
However, the timeline plaza went through quite a few re-iterations before reaching the version I am content with.
Below are some samples:
Originally, the idea was to have the Timeline Plaza's theme build up as Poppy completed missions. However, I felt this song was a bit too punchy and grating overtime.
You may remember this song, as I showcased it's first phase earlier this year. Regardless... Continuing with the whole "Building Up as it Goes" idea, the plan is that Core Frisk's motif plays where you hear Poppy's up until the "4th" version of the song, showing Poppy's hand in helping everyone.
This song in general is pretty good, actually. I just felt this song didn't quite fit the mood I was going for.
There are also some character specific themes/rearrangements sprinkled here and there, but you'll have to wait to see what those are.
Overall, it's very fun composing tracks for the AU. It just takes a good bit to figure out what to go with. I'd also like to thank @xxtha-blog for helping out with overseeing most of the mixing and composition of the songs in the game.
And if you'd like to listen to the ACT 1 and ACT 2 soundtracks, be sure to check out the official playlist.

@deep-space-tits tagged me so I'm also sharing 5 songs I'm listening to lately, unfortunately it's mostly anime.
1: The Fate of Katun - Ichiko Hashimoto, I've been on a real Hashimoto bend after discovering RahXephon. While the ending song from that series is absolutely serene, I've listened to this more. It's very tranquil and kind of drenched in this vague sense of longing? I love how she brings in elements of the more orchestral soundtrack into this relatively poppy song.
2: Clean Strategic Narratives With Relatable Messaging Murder Them Violently Make Their Children Watch - Lauren Bousfield, very loud good brain feeling mm. I've been listening to this album since like November but this song stands out to me, I like how it swings between nice bits of melody but also just descends into complete noise. I don't know what the vocals are saying but they're fun and glitchy.
3: When I Get Old (I'm 60) - Naruyoshi Kikuchi, I adore all of the music from Thunderbolt but this one made me cry earlier today so here. The lyrics are just fun, I love those soft drums, and like most songs from Thunderbolt it feels pleasantly bittersweet. I'd hugely suggest Groovy Duel too but it's impossible to find that song anymore.
4: Monkey - Midori, I listened to this album because it has tits on the cover. It's all very loud and shouty in a way that's good to me, and this song in particular has a really compelling beat. I like the short punchy verses that get increasingly intense, and the unrestrained choruses where the vocals and instruments kinda get let loose.
5: You Were My Brother - Ichiko Hashimoto, I had to pick something from Akito the Exiled cause the experimental/free jazz stuff is completely tilted. It was between this and "No Choice But To Fight", but this won out cause I like how fucking bizarre and erratic it sounds. I adore how it gradually climbs from sparse random sounds into what I can only describe as a massive fucking headache.
Side note, do you know how tricky it is to translate songs when Spotify won't even let you select names and text? Evil little app. As per the last post, I'm tagging 5 people who can do their 5 if they want (you don't need to write this much it can literally be a list):

i saw marcel at my hhp on my main island save file just now and i was like
wait
i also love him
i should do a fucking circus/clown themed island
the urge to waste all my money and buy another switch and another copy of acnh is STRONG.....
i'm gonna make a mock up of the villager list now.
bc i gotta be honest--i always prioritize the villagers i think are cutest and on my first/main island it's villagers who could conceivably be REAL so no weird colors or designs
so i currently have katt, roald (he rides the line but he's my starter jock, he's never leaving, so he gets a pass), goldie, maple, poppy, vivian, dobie, maddie, shep, and punchy
they all look like conceivably real animals, right?
and on my second island i have 4 dogs, 4 squirrels, 1 deer, 1 duck
i've got mac, bones, bea, and cookie (the ONLY exception to the colors rule bc she is SO FUCKING CUTE i mean her nose is a CHOCOLATE CHIP! AND HER BIG OL EYES!!!!), hazel, sally, blaire, and pecan, and then deirdre and molly
but there are villagers i like who have wacky colors! i just never want them on an island with villagers that have Normal Color Schemes lol
so if i somehow had enough money and time and wherewithal to get a third island...
i would do all the wacky villagers that i do also like
marcle and pietro and--
i'll come back to add more lol

Funeral brand Poppy’s launches new ad campaign by craig+bridget to get the funeral sector out of the Victorian era.
In its first ad campaign,London-based funeral company, Poppy’s, asks why we’re still stuck in the Victorian era when it comes to funerals.
Poppy’s offers a fresh approach to funerals. Instead of following outdated practices Poppy’s tunes into individual client needs, offering choice and injecting meaning. This sets it apart in a sector that is still rooted in austere Victorian traditions.
The punchy, thought-provoking campaign, created by craig+bridget, highlights that the normal approach to funerals is anything but normal in today’s world. It features billboard posters stating, “It’s time to bury Victorian funerals” and “1861 called. They want their funeral traditions back.”
The outdoor campaign will run across sites in SW London close to Poppy’s HQ in Tooting from 22 May until January 2024.
Poppy’s was founded by Poppy Mardall, who is a vocal advocate for improving the funeral sector and evolving the way we deal with death as a society.
Poppy Mardall said: “We are really excited to launch this new campaign which sums up everything Poppy’s stands for – funerals need to move with the times, with much better care and support for the living and the dead.”
craig+bridget, said: “Working with clients like Poppy’s is one of the reasons we started craig+bridget. They have a vision to change their sector by doing things better. It was a privilege to spend time with them and create this thought-provoking work.”
craig+bridget is a creative strategy consultancy which was launched in 2021 by ad industry veterans Craig Mawdsley and Bridget Angear, who were previously Joint Chief Strategy Officers at Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO.
Specialising in brand strategy and solving strategic problems for brands, craig+bridget has worked with a range of clients including Nando’s, Guinness, Doritos, Lay’s, and the BBC

How to stress me out:
I.N. has such a lovely smile. He seems happy. That makes me happy.
Tumblr media
And then I noticed the ragged unfinished edges on his coat. Maybe it is Fashion(tm) or maybe the wardrobe department was in a hurry and only had to make it last for one performance. But as a sewist of over 35 years, the raw edges are giving me kittens! 😱 They are going to ravel like crazy!

Album Spotlight - Some Nights I Dream of Doors
by Obongjayar
Tumblr media
Genre: Afropop/afrobeat
Song to try: Try
|| Spotify Link || Apple Music Link || YouTube Link ||
Some Nights I Dream of Doors is a project of great eclecticism, as Obongjayar flexes his varied vocal and stylistic chops, putting in more straightforward poppy vocal performances alongside a gravelly and punchy style, even within the same song (the opener mentioned above "Try" being a fantastic example of that). The instrumental diversity of the record is a lot more understated, but again, Obongjayar demonstrates an impressive comfort with disparate styles, from the aggressively defiant "Message in a Hammer" to the near-sickly sweet positivity in "Sugar" to the beautiful sentimentality of "All the Difference", the album switches between and blends moods and styles fantastically, which makes for a really exciting, well-rounded listening experience.
Lyrically, there is a lot of maturity in this album. There is a lot of positivity in the albums lyrics, but it also refuses to look away from the negative in the world. Instead of falling into pure misery or complete escapism, Obongjayar tends towards an approach of balance, and balance these moods he has, with the general themes being conveyed becoming more about pushing past misery to find some peace. Songs like "Parasite" and "Message in a Hammer" tell you early on it's not all okay, before the album goes on to tell you to try to stay positive regardless. You don't get the impression that you're being told not to care, to accept the evil in the world, but just to do your best to navigate it with positivity. It's genuinely impressive to me how well that message is conveyed in twelve three-minute segments and deserves to be applauded in my opinion.
Something else about this album I'd like to bring attention to is how Obongjayar approaches ballads. Usually I personally find myself bored with ballads, as, while the lyrics may be above par, there is a tendency for artists to keep it instrumentally minimal to the point where personally I get bored. There are of course a lot of exceptions to that rule, but none so exceptional as some of the songs on this album, All the Difference in particular.
The song verges on the slow side, yes. And it's relatively sparse, too. But there is a groove to the percussion that is just infectious, while not taking away from the effectiveness of the heartfelt message. And then the chorus rolls around and the song opens up so softly, providing some restrained dynamism, while also going so hand in hand with the lyrics as it sounds exactly how a mind-opening and impactful, yet safe experience feels. It's not just a beautiful poem with a backing track (which, don't get me wrong, is great in it's own right), it's a great song that you could love without understanding English.
If you think you'd like an optimistic album with mature lyrics that acknowledge hurdles to more effectively clear them, and an ear for energetic rhythms, this album is a great option.

Cyn’s Top 10 Kpop B-sides of 2023!
The sequel no one asked for but I couldn’t help myself. I love ranking things!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
10. Melting Point by ZB1 - It basically interpolates Hush by Miss A which is just absolutely iconic. I applaud them for that. Keeping 2nd gen kpop alive. It’s a great song. I’m going to be telling you that with every one of these explanations lol. I love how it’s so light and fluffy sounding but then the chorus comes in so hard only to go back to the sweet sounding “touch touch blush blush” post-chorus.
9. Wonderland by TRI.BE - Ya’ll are sleeping on these girls! To be fair though so was I. I only knew them for that blow a little blow a little kissss song but I learned this year that they’re one of those groups with really good b-sides. I was so sad when I realized that In The Air (777) came out in 2022 instead of 2023 bc it was going to top this list. Instead though we have Wonderland which is almost as good! It’s just a super fun poppy song and the english version is great too.
8. Blue Wave by NCT Dream - This song is so easy breezy wonderful. It’s light and refreshing. Random comparison but it reminds me of that snapple rain drink? Have y’all had those? They taste like what this song sounds like to me. Lol I should rank my gas station beverage picks next. Got a little sidetracked there but yeah I love this song!

7. Eve, Psyche, & The Bluebeard’s Wife by Lesserafim - Absolutely iconic. Theres a reason this song got like a thousand remixes. Theres a reason it went viral! It’s really really good! I don’t know how to explain why it just slays. It’s cunty as the kids say. I will in fact be getting it like boom boom boom.
6. Tape by Kep1er - Potentially the most Kep1er-y sounding song they’ve ever made despite the fact that it’s a subunit song. Like it’s just the perfect encapsulation of their charm. It’s fun and quirky and catchy and I love it. One of my favorite songs for walking around campus. It just puts me in a good mood!
5. Next Page by IVE - I don’t have any complicated reason for liked this so much. It’s just a pretty and sweet sounding song! The chorus is so cute!! Baby, 난 이 다음이, 다음이 궁금 해 Oh, I love you so, l love you so ♡♡

4. Enhanced Flower by tripleS EVOLution - I admit this is a weird one to put so high because its more of an outro than anything. I love the atmosphere of the song though. It’s so peaceful and dreamy but also vaguely menacing? It’s just so captivating to listen to. Also I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Bae Shannon (Sungyeon of Pristin) has a writing and composing credit! Of course the song she worked on would be my favorite. Once a HIgh always a HIgh ^_^
3. Will I Ever See You Again by Red Velvet - I loved this song from the first moment. That little piano part is so lovely and then when it came back in the chorus with the synths I ascended! The vocals are insane too! The whole thing is so beautiful. It manages to feel gentle and dreamy but it also has so much forward momentum the whole way through.
2. Here We Go Again by JINI - Imma be honest I don’t stan NMIXX so I had no familiarity with Jini before this. I was drawn in though by the badass album title (An Iron Hand In A Velvet Glove) and ended up absolutely loving this solo debut. I really would have made HWGA the title track though. The lyrics are so perfect for her situation, like it’s practically a song about her redebut after leaving her former group. It’s almost too on the nose but I love that! Plus it’s just super fun and punchy and danceable.

1. Back To The City by Kep1er - I’m so glad that people are giving this song attention now because I knew as soon as I heard it that was THE Kep1er song. When they disband this is the one we’ll be crying to. (Well this one and tOgether fOrever and I’ll be getting emotional to Daisy too.. okay so lots of tears lol). This song is just nostalgic feeling. It feels like running in a field catching fireflies with your best friends. Just pure innocent joy.
Also heres a tangent, despite the fact that she has like 3 lines, back to the city BELONGS to Yujin in my book. She brings such earnest emotion into every performance. The fancam of her dancing to it with a big smile and visible TEARS in her eyes?! I love her so much T-T
