Okay but from what we’ve seen from some of these alternate Finns over the years is,
Finn is a great dad.
Like look at farm!Finn (who I will speak on in another post) and also pillow world Finn? There are many a Finn Mertens out their who are dads and are great at it.
This makes me think about our Finn Mertens and wonder if he(’ll) ever had kids? It’s clear in Fionna and Cake that Finn is still struggling with the loss of Jake, and to cope with his loss he’s throwing himself into adventuring so he doesn’t have to face it.
While Finn will never be able to replace Jake (nor should he) he can still find ways to make himself happy again and I think settling down with Huntress Wizard and having kids of his own could be really good for him. It could also be especially healing for him because of his issues with Martin, his own father.

I still need to rewatch the latest two episodes to see if I might actually have something proper to contribute but here's a little one if nothing else.
A lot of people have noted that Simon seems to be avoiding eating and I think that's true. On the other hand Fionna and Cake are always like "Yes please" when offered something and that something seems to be mainly soup? Like soup's a thing, right? Cause Farm Finn's perpetual soup and Martin serves soup to Fionna, Cake and baby Finn and Cake gives her perpetual soup to Jake and it's all very love-y dove-y happy families and I think that's cute. It's like symbolism but I'm in no shape to write a whole essay about it so hoping if there's something more to it people will expand on this.

Fandom Fridays: Adventure Time Season 8
Season Eight of Adventure Time has felt like it’s flown by and with the finale bomb episodes that just came out, it’s a good time to reflect on the season as a whole. We got two amazing miniseries this season, although at times it felt like there wasn’t a moment of rest for our characters, there were a few calm episodes too.
Tumblr media
I feel like the six episodes before Islands  got forgotten by a lot of people, including myself, and after re-watching them I appreciate them a lot more.I felt these episodes and The Orb got overshadowed by the two miniseries because they weren’t as grand. So, for people complaining that there were no classic “adventuring” episodes, the real issue was the ordering of the miniseries and stand alone stories.
Tumblr media
To me, I felt overwhelmed by having two miniseries essentially in a row, (The Orb being the only episode in between them). I felt this order didn’t allow the pacing of the season to ever slow down like we’re used to from past seasons. Admittedly, within the miniseries Whipple the Happy Dragon and Cloudy were more playful low key episodes.

This season also reflects the growth of Finn as he’s on the cusp of adulthood. So I suppose it makes sense that there isn’t as many episodes that are relaxed because Finn has more responsibility now. Adventure Time has evolved with our protagonist, in his early adolescence Finn had more time for “silly events”. Then, in the fifth season, his relationship with Flame Princess marks his transition to maturing and bigger and longer story arcs started to emerge.

I know some people were annoyed how quickly Jake changed back to his usual yellow self, but I was glad it wasn’t prolonged. Jake got to discover his alien form, but in Abstract he realizes his identity and personality reflects how he should appear, which is the yellow dog we’ve come to know and love. He still acknowledges his alien DNA and how that’s changed him, but the core of his identity is still the same.

Ketchup was adorable and just a beautifully animated episode. I’m excited to learn more about Marceline’s family in the Season 9 premiere, (or season 9 episode 15 if you go by Cartoon Network’s sudden decision to say The Orb was the premiere lol), Marcy and Hunson.
Tumblr media
Also, this season we get to find out that Fionna and Cake are real, they’re actors on a TV show?! What?! But Ice King didn’t have access to the tapes the Other Fionna watched, so how did he come up with his fan fiction? We know at the end of the episode images of Fionna and cake are being beamed into his mind. But even if his crown is like a TV getting a signal of episodes of Fionna and Cake, where are the reruns of the show being aired? Also, will the people of Ooo ever get to meet the real Fionna and Cake, and is that their real names, or do the actors have different names? Maybe the show was a reality TV show so their stories are true and not fiction. I’m excited to see where they go with their characters!

I was so excited to see the return of the Lich, he is the only major antagonist/super villain Finn has had. The episode had a classic early season vibe and I died at Jake listening to Finn’s voicemail. I can’t wait to find out what happens next with the Lich!

The Season 8 finale, three buckets, was satisfying and left enough intrigue at the end. To be honest, I was never big on Fern’s character, but his internal struggle and blunt end was still heartbreaking. I’m not a monster, but I didn’t care to see his character remain on the show long term. Now we are left wondering who this mysterious man is that’s collected the remains of Fern. My guess is he’s Uncle Gumbald, considering there’s a big G on his cloak and he asked Fern if he wanted an uncle. His character has only been mentioned twice I think, so I’m interested to know what he’s been doing in Ooo. Overall season eight was solid and has created a good setup for the final season. I give it an A-!
