Pebbleshine's Kits Diagnosis: Honestly I don't have that much to say about the actual story. Just that the implications of the ending are really depressing in a good way. Violetshine and Twigbranch are such sad characters man what the hell.

Uhhhhhhh B. it was a nice little read and I had a nice time with it. Made some interesting choices that I personally wouldn't have made but none that actively drag down the book or anything. I'm glad I checked it out and it's a good story to read in between Hawkwing's Journey and Shattered Sky.

#ok so the question is... should i read tree's roots. cause i know i also want to read mothwing's secret #thing is i haven't gotten to tree's stuff yet. nor the sisters. and im not really looking forwards to... any of it. #like i may read it eventually but like. should i bother doing so now? it is short so maybe? #pk liveread

Good lord... the implications of Pebbleshine watching, not able to do anything as her kittens get ripped apart, antagonized, called burdens, pushed to strain themselves to "justify" their existence, getting yanked around and neglected and berated by cats they're supposed to look up to, almost having to watch one of them DROWN for fucks sake all because her medic screamed at her and indirectly encouraged her peers to ostracize her with no hint of regret cause "im an empath so i get to do that"............ As if Thunder and Shadow was not depressing enough holy shit

#i kinda wish the novella ended at her kits being separated instead of alder and needle finding them #like yeah it ends on the book on a sad note but its already a sad book and we're meant to look at it as a sad story #cause we know she dies and all. but like. cmon get into the tragedy a bit more please #pk liveread

#pebbleshine mind beaming needlepaw is a little funny tho i gotta admit. just as a concept #also one more W over alderheart. the idea that needletail of all characters is more adept to starclan than he is is so funny #also.... hrmmm i dislike the whole ''you have to have a natural connection to starclan to be a medic'' detail cause its boring and it sucks #and it actively undermines the story and especially arc 1 in retrospect sometimes. but i do like the idea that like #needletail was meant to be a medic but didnt cause she was trained to belief that it was a worthless prideless position #it tracks with littlecloud dying soon after #pk liveread

I know it conflicts with the timeline here but. I kinda wish Echosong was the StarClan cat helping Pebbleshine in the tunnel instead of Micah. It'd feel a lot more sentimental and even sad for Pebbleshine cause like, she'd wonder if she was just hallucinating her dead medic or not out of some hope that she'd finally gotten close, and then felt all the more despair when she realized Echosong was dead. Also Echosong got an offscreen death so you may as well just give her an earlier one in the timeline. It feels much less convoluted than "Frecklewish was actually fine the whole time and they got her back so the infant doesnt have to take care of us alone"

Oh my god I'm sorry Im still not over Hawkwing getting Pebbleshine pregnant not only immediately after she became a warrior (NOT saying hes a predator he's only like two months older than her but still yall are like 20 and you don't have much actual experience as adults WAIT!!!) but immediately after they all became homeless. What the fuck

#like shit happens i get it but wtf yall!!! #again. this book could have been solved by soooo much if hawk and pebble were middle aged at the start of the book #its such a weird twisting retcon that doesnt even make sense cause originally he was supposed to be an apprentice in early oots!! #which is soooo far before avos which is when HWJ takes place #or at least have them wander on the journey for a good while before pebble gets knocked up and its like an accident theyre scared for #but nah theyre both like ''this is soooo awesome'' no it is NOT your kids are FUCKED #pk liveread
