Are you guys planing another rainbow presents or is ghat series droped?

RDP is probably done with. They’re much larger projects that take a lot longer to put together, and that’s not something that Youtube supports as a platform very well these days. Star in Yellow has produced close to 500k views to date, which is pretty weak for RDP, but it took a good number of months to make and there was a team of maybe five people working on it. We first started doing RDP when Petirep and I were in college, so we were less worried about bills and could devote our time to most anything we wanted. Back in those days, Youtube would also show our videos to people, and it would notify our subscribers..In short, RDP is expensive, and Youtube makes itself inhospitable. It would take a long time to make the video, and then when it was done, Youtube wouldn’t tell our subscribers about it. It won’t promote the video. In the current climate it wouldn’t even run ads on it. A lot of fans would have no idea we made the episode, and based on what we saw with Star in Yellow, by the end of the month it wouldn’t even be in any recommended feeds..The content I make today is a more concentrated effort between Copy and I. It’s a two person team making shorter video. It’s cheaper and it’s faster and it keeps new stuff rolling in every week. Now that said, we don’t want to follow too closely to what Youtube thinks is the best kind of video, because here’s an example of one of the better performing videos this year:.

.This embarrassment - which I now think of as “the absolute state of Youtube” because nothing is more emblematic of the site than a man slapping himself in the face over and over as a shallow grab at ad revenue - has 2.5 million views greater than Double King. You should definitely check Double King out if you haven’t seen it, because it’s interesting, it’s animated, has tons of charm, and took two years to produce by a skilled professional with real talent in an entertainment medium. .Obviously I’d rather be the skilled professional than the man slapping his face, but since Youtube has a general monopoly over online video, its policies can still have a powerful downward drag on content. It influences production in a lot of ways, very strongly trying to push for things that are cheap, easy, and fast. I’m doing my best keep above it, but it’s a battle, and RDP requests a very large gamble, which means even if someone tried to replace us it’s unlikely the site will promote any content like RDP to follow in my wake. This is why talent is dying across the site, because they’re killing creative people and replacing them with - well you can see, and there are few ways for new sources of creativity to rise over the graves of their predecessors. When a video like Double King cannot compete with “man slaps face for 24 hours”, it’s like the joke from “Idiocracy”, where a movie about someone’s butt wins “best film”. Only instead of stupid people causing the problem, it’s one stupid robot..And then finally, on top of all this, which makes RDP extremely challenging to produce as Youtube content, I’d also like to move away from My Little Pony and not focus on it as much. I’m still in contact with Petirep, but I’m aware he hasn’t watched the latest seasons, and I quit watching in early season seven. The show is changing so rapidly now that by season eight, I’ll have no idea which characters ascended, which villains reformed, who moved, who resurrected from the dead, who had babies, or what. It’s getting to where season recaps sound like a telenovela minus the suspense. I heard Starswirl is alive and part of the show now. I didn’t see that episode, and you know, for the people still watching, you can have it. I don’t think I can make animated parodies fast enough to even commentate anymore..So yeah. It’s not like we hate doing RDP, and whenever someone asks us we always say we’d kind of like to do another one. They are fun projects, and there’s a slim chance we might make another one purely for the fun and nostalgia. But there are so many hurdles to making them now, there’s passion to explore other subjects, and there’s a lot of reasons to do other things.
