April 14, 2020: King Felipe and Queen Letizia held a videoconference with the heads of the Spanish Federation of Food and Beverage Industries to find out the situation of these companies, belonging to an industrial sector considered essential during the state of alarm caused by the COVID-19 epidemic.
Don Felipe and Doña Letizia have spoken with the president of the FIAB, Tomás Pascual Gómez-Cuétara, and with the general director of the federation, Mauricio García de Quevedo. The FIAB is made up of 45 sector associations. Represents food and beverage producers, representing 3% of national GDP and 16% of the whole of Spanish industry. It constitutes the first industrial sector in the country with almost half a million workers and more than 30,000 companies. It highlights that youth employment - from 16 to 35 years old - accounts for about a third of the total occupation of the sector, and that one in three employed in this industry is a woman, higher than the employment in the manufacturing industry as a whole, where is one in four. Furthermore, they highlight that Spanish products are "ambassadors" of the Spain Brand throughout the world and the food-gastronomy-tourism trinomial attracts millions of people to our country every year.

Los astilleros de Vigo remontan con pesqueros y contratos extranjeros El naval vigués, junto con Nodosa en Marín, vuelve a liderar en España con una treintena de pedidos  A día de hoy todos los grandes astilleros de la Ría -excepto Vulcano- tienen carga de trabajo asegurada para varios años y el grueso de los barcos que están en construcción son para armadores extranjeros. También resulta significativo el repunte de los pedidos de barcos pesqueros con varias unidades encargadas en el último año a las factorías viguesas y que se distinguen por ser de última generación, con tecnología punta y eficientes en muchos casos. Es el caso de Armón, que tiene en estos momentos un pico alto de actividad con una decena de buques, entre ellos dos arrastreros para Argentina, un congelador para Canadá y un multipedido para Nueva Pescanova con buques para faenar en Namibia. El astillero también está trabajando en varios oceanográficos para Argentina o Suecia, entre otros.   Freire, por su parte, está trabajando en dos pesqueros para Groenlandia y tiene otros pedidos de carácter internacional en vigor entre oceanográficos y patrulleras para Bélgica y Kuwait. Otro de los astilleros con mejores proyecciones de trabajo es Barreras, que está construyendo el megacrucero de lujo para Ritz-Carlton (190 metros de eslora) y tiene tres contratos más, dos cruceros para la noruega Havila y un ferri para Armas, que le supondría 'overbooking' en las instalaciones cuando se inicien los trabajos.
