#personally I've found the most helpful creed to live by is just... what makes my body feel good?

the other thing too is that losing weight is NOT a neutral action in the same way that being fat is.
what do I mean by that?
well, it is morally neutral in that no one should be judging you for wanting to lose weight & wanting to lose weight does not make you a bad person
however. it's not a neutral action. in the same way that feminists critique the beauty industry and makeup and constantly get replies like "but I LIKE wearing makeup!!!!" that completely miss the point. that's sort of the same thing happening when fat activists/people that advocate for fat liberation point out the flaws in diet culture and get "but I NEED to lose weight for (xyz "good" reasons) are you saying I'm a bad person?" that completely miss the point.
in an ideal world, people could lose and gain weight without a single bat of an eye. but we don't live in that world. not only is it scientifically proven that most people CANNOT sustainably keep weight they've lost off (and no, not due to lack of self control) and that losing weight (especially rapidly) can have some huge health consequences, but, more relevantly, these ideas of weight and health and beauty are SO tangled up in fatphobia and western beauty standards that it's nigh impossible to reach some Enlightened State where your reason for weight loss is untouched by it.
you want to lose weight to "be healthier?" who told you you were unhealthy? was it your doctor? doctors that routinely suggest fat patients lose weight for every complaint ever including the common cold or a broken bone? was it society telling you being fat is unhealthy even though you ARE healthy? and if you're Not healthy, do you know for sure it's your weight? because thin people can also have high cholesterol and heart problems. there's other ways to fix these things that don't involve weight loss to dangerous degrees, but doctors are already so up their own ass about fat people that they probably didn't discuss anything with you other than "lose weight." does that mean no fat person ever is unhealthy because they're fat? no. but it Does mean that that reason is so tangled up in fatphobia that 100% stating you're free of diet culture when you say it just is Not accurate
you want to lose weight to "feel better about yourself"? well this one's easy and won't be as long as the last. why do you feel that way? who taught you that being fat is something to feel bad about? if you lived 500 years ago before diet culture, would you feel pressure to lose weight to feel better about yourself?
and none of this is to say you CAN'T chose to lose weight. it's your body. you can do whatever the fuck you want with it, good or bad. but when people talk about fatphobia and fat liberation and your first response is "oh but I'm losing weight for the GOOD reasons" stop yourself. ask if that's relevant to the conversation. ask yourself if those reasons ARE neutral. if they're tied to health, body image (including dysphoria!), or how other people perceive you? the answer is no

Hi there! I've been on Tumblr for a few months now and I've been thinking about starting a RP blog, starting out with Assassin's Creed (cause Jacob Frye is the BOMB! Love this man
I sure do! Also, oh my goodness, my sincerest apologies for the lateness of this reply :’) and omg, you’re too kind, thank you so much for the compliment!
First things first- don’t be like me. The second you get things, I highly suggest answering them as the longer they sit the less motivation you have to reply. Kinda like homework haha! ((I’m just kidding roleplaying is waayyy more fun))
Alrighty, but in all seriousness *cracks knuckles*
Here’s a suuuuper basic rundown on anything roleplay related! If you still have any further questions, don’t hesitate to let me know!
So, basics: do your research.
Whether you’re roleplaying a canon character or an original character, your goal is to not make them feel like a character, but a human being, and in order to do that you must make them feel “3-D” in a sense. What that means is you can have a fancy backstory, yeah, but if you plan on your character having a tragic backstory such as being the lone survivor of a house fire and their entire family going up in flames, then that would definitely cause some PTSD and behaviors that should be demonstrated later on in their lives, such as possibly still getting over the guilt of the incident, trying to figure out why they were the only one to survive, and, of course, most likely being petrified of fire or hating the smell of smoke.
Second, if you’re just starting out, don’t be intimidated by formatting or get caught up in aesthetics. Just focus on finding your own writing style and making sure your followers can easily navigate the content of your blog, (aka, just find a good, basic theme that has easy to find links). In terms of what consists of a good roleplay theme, you always want links! As there are a few basic pages you’ll most likely end up finding you’ll want to have. One major one is of course an about or bio page, another for verses, an about page for yourself, etc... depending on what you want. Here is an awesome link that goes into depth on roleplay blog formats 101. I would go into depth myself, but there is a lot of info there, such as triggers, headcanon’s, what a mundane page is, and so forth. (And once again, if something isn’t clear by all means message me!)
If you plan on roleplaying an original character, I highly insist on having a bio page, however. It’s not exactly required, but there are a lot of roleplay blogs that prefer them, (myself included- won’t lie, my opinion here is a bit biased because of that), and once again, they’re always rather helpful for people that don’t know your character as well as you do. They’re super helpful for anyone wanting to get to know your character, and I know for me personally it helps to have a reference to go back to in order to look at character traits such as height, hair color, etc... so I get those details right when writing out a reply. This link will direct you to the best mary sue test ever, and what taught me the ability to develop good characters, as even if you may ‘fail’ this mary sue test, it really gets you to think about what traits you want to give a character and why they have them.
OH and while I’m at it, this site and this site are super helpful in finding a faceclaim for an original character! You don’t have to have one of those either, but once again they are helpful as they really bring your character to life, and I honestly found searching for ‘your character’ to be super fun!
Hands down, don’t ever feel afraid to talk to people! You would be surprised how many people are willing to roleplay! Of course be respectful of when people have it stated that are selective/semi-selective on their blog, as that tells you how willing a blog is to roleplay with everyone who asks, as, unfortunately, you can’t always roleplay with everyone. (And never take that personally if you get turned down, literally 99.9999% of the time it has nothing to do with you, it’s merely because the person can no longer take in any new interactions or are currently short on time.)
Also, something that took me forever to learn, but if a blog also is listed as private (usually along with selective) that means they roleplay with a set community or group of people. Don’t let that discourage you, however, as they may still be willing to interact! You never know :)
Going along with that- promote all the way! If you have the time I totally suggest making a promotion for your blog, which is a simple post with your url and whatever else you’d like that you shove out into the tumblr world for all those to see- and usually they do help in garnering your blog some new interactions.
One last thing- tags will become your life saver. With all the interactions you may end up having, along with possible multiple verses, and multiple links, you’re going to want to keep your blog organized, so set up a system for yourself! Tag verses, make sure to tag those you’re roleplaying with in replies, and above all make sure to tag whatever you need to be able to easily find everything!
Honestly, this blog is usually my go-to as they have amazingly detailed links and answers to questions, so check them out as they go into way more depth about things that I can’t currently fit in this answer, eheh- but there’s also a lot to go over, and I don’t want to overwhelm you right now. Take your time, read through everything, and as always, you can totally shoot me an ask for any other questions you have!
