The ocean was cool. The waters were calm, and it will only move with the breeze of the gentle winds.

As the waters move along the shore, the sound of swishing waters could be heard.

The sounds of a fin slapping the waters stopped, when the creature of the water gathered her arms to the top of her head and dove deep within the ocean.

A moment later, she resurfaced, giggling.

With a sigh, her body relaxed on the surface of the ocean.

Under the moonlight, she slept amongst the waters.

Alas, Penrose had to leave.

But she couldn't get enough of this mermaid lover of hers. She had to kiss her again, in the middle of Perlas's living room.

When they let go, both of them were panting hard. They had just recovered from the passionate dance they did in bed earlier, but kissing and touching each other are enough to rile them up again.

"You know, Rose, if you have time to kiss me again, you have time to take a shower," Perlas teased, giggling. "We're both clammy."

Penrose bit her lip. "I have to leave early though..."

Perlas touched her forehead to Penrose's. "I know."

She was about to move away when Penrose took her hands.

"I don't know what this means, Perlas," Penrose muttered, looking down at their hands, "but you've captivated me. Thank you. You've put my mind in ease. I don't know how, maybe your mermaid powers? But thank you. I'll keep this a secret."

"Our relationship?" Perlas almost frowned.

"No, no," Penrose shook her head, squeezing her hands. "Your identity. I want to protect you from harm."

"Oh," Perlas breathed. "Thank you, my Rose." She winked, "I don't mind being in a relationship with you, you know."

Penrose chuckled. "I'll come back for you, Perlas."

"Pearl," Perlas said.

Penrose tilted her head, confused.

"Pearl is what my name means," Perlas tucked a stray lock of her hair behind her ears.

"I'll come back for you, my Pearl."

They shared another chaste kiss.

"You know, what we did earlier, it wasn't mermaid magic."

"Oh," Penrose blushed. "So I guess we...uh..."

"Drawn to each other? I think so," Perlas giggled. "But I'll show you real mermaid magic."

"A charm while you sail back home," Perlas started. "An inspiring berceuse."

Perlas stood at the back of her hut. She breathed in the ocean air. "I can hear you sing...why do you keep calling me, Great Ocean?"

The wind whooshed. The waters gently waved, as if beckoning her to come, come child.

She stood there for a moment.

The waves were bigger now. It seemed like it was saying hurry, hurry child, come, come!

She dove.

As soon as her legs turned into tail, she floated there for a moment. Her eyes found the starry sky. Something feels different.

The waves pushed her gently away from her hut, as if telling her, move, child, move.

The waters were calling her for her safety. So she followed.

Tonight, she'll sleep in the deeper parts of the Sulani Ocean. It's been awhile anyway. If it meant that it'll soothe the waters from its worry for her.

And as she swam away from Lani St. Taz, a mist appeared on Hibiscus Hut's deck.

And suddenly, a pale woman appeared.

A creature of the night.

She looked around, then shook her head. "You have been lucky so far, Perlas of St. Taz," she clicked her tongue, checking her nails, "The ocean protects you from me."

Stepping forward, she regarded the waters of Sulani with disdain.

"And you have been so selfish," she spat, her spit dropping on the ocean, "I only wanted to ask your Pearl anything she knows about the Vampire Overlord."

As if on cue, her senses were flooded with fishy smell.

"Eugh," she growled, "you think the smell of a rotten fish would keep me away from you, ocean? The weredogs have the worst smell."

Hissing, she vanished once again, before reappearing at the front of the hut.

The vampire took a deep breath. Her search is hampered.

"He had gathered friends in every corner of the world. Not all though," she scoffed, "the werewolves still despise us."

"I do not know why," she gazed up at the starry sky. "Is he planning to dominate the world? Ha, and here I thought he's done with domination."

Sucking her teeth, she frowned, "But why gather friends?"

"You really are a passionate woman, Rose," Perlas noted, they now sat on her dining table. "You care for the children's wellbeing. I would only hope Bernie will come to his senses. I do not know how these...royalty of the landfolk work, but the children loves their father, may he rest in peace, and if they find out Bernie and the lady duchess is in love, it can be devastating for Julie and Mousse."

"I know," Penrose took a big sigh. "I guess I'll just let it be, see what happens when we go home."

"You're still troubled."

Penrose bit her lip, "I don't know. I—I feel tense. I feel hot. It doesn't help a hot mermaid is beside me, you know."

"Well," Perlas stood up, pulling her along. "You can show this hot mermaid how a rose like you be passionate with the things she like..."

Penrose felt her whole face turn red.

"Uh! But if you want of course," Perlas cleared her throat. "I don't want to force you."

"Please, doing the deed with a mermaid? Hell, yes," Penrose bit her lip, breathing hard.

Perlas smiled, pulling her to the bedroom.

Penrose doesn't know what happened next, or how this lead to her left in her underwear (with her bra thrown to the side), but all she could focus on is the giddiness, and the heat on her abdomen, and how Perlas's dark warm skin caresses her pale one.

How her soft lips touches the freckles in her body. How she smelt of the sea. It all feels too much. But the troubles in her mind washes away. It's calming.

Perlas kissed her lips, "What's wrong, my Rose? You're deep in thought."

Penrose ran a finger on the scar across Perlas's stomach. She felt her suck in a breath. "Sorry."

Perlas chuckled, kissing Penrose's cheek. "Curious?"

"If you don't mind," Penrose chased the other's lip.

"I was caught in a skirmish before. A band of vampires found me, they wanted to take me in, get my...blood. They wanted to test out the theory that drinking merfolk blood could enhance their use of their dark magic."

"That's horrible," Penrose murmured. She ran her hand over the scar once again, as if soothing it.

"I fought against them," Perlas continued, her fingers dancing on Penrose's shoulders. "I got wounded. The blood seeped out. They were hungry. But one certain overlord of the vampires appeared. He casted them away. He hid me here in Sulani, and promised to keep me safe. He still does, and I owe it to him. I told him, whatever he wants, I can get it done. He only shook his head and left."

"So you're in hiding here."

"For many years, yes."

"How old are you?" Penrose asked, brow quirking.

Perlas rolled her eyes. "So many questions, Rose." With a sigh, she took Penrose's breath away by kissing her passionately. When she broke the kiss, Penrose was left panting. "Shall we continue?" the mermaid teased.

"Yes," Penrose moaned as she felt a hand gently rubbed the hardened pebble of her left breast.

As the night went on, the hut was filled with sweet moans. A soft cry, and another encouraging moan, soothing coos, would follow.

Penrose would come undone with Perlas's hands.

For the whole morning, it kept raining. The heavy rain was replaced with warm thunderstorms, that everyone had to stay inside, afraid that they might get struck by the lightning.

Bernie went to the deck to take a quick look. There's almost zero visibility in the islands as the monsoon progressed. He clicked his tongue, shaking his head, before going back inside.

As locals and tourists alike stayed inside, one child of the islands, a daughter of the ocean, was left outside.

The thunderstorm lessened into a shower, but it was still dark, and it looked like it could continue on the whole day.

Perlas was in the middle of the sea, far from her hut and the Sand Simoleon Beach. A conch on her hand, she raised it.

"That vampire can attack me anytime with this weather," she muttered. "I will not let them take that chance."

And then, using her mermaid magic, she blew the conch like a horn.

The shower stopped. The dark skies, the mist that it brought with, slowly vanished.

Perlas of St. Taz smiled when the sky brightened. Satisfied, and safe once again, she hurried back to her hut, before anyone could see her in broad daylight.

Mermaid's Longing

In the Hibiscus Hut in Sulani, Perlas of St. Taz cooked herself some vegetable casserole. She misses her Rose dearly, but she knows that she will meet her again in time. For now, she occupies herself by helping the locals with their errands, touring foreign tourists, and consulting the island elementals. Perlas is glad that the dark energy the elementals had sensed before is gone and has not yet returned. Though, she knows that she shouldn’t relax; she needs to continue being cautious.

For now, she waits until she and Rose meet, and finally be in union.

The family kept to themselves while on the beach. Both Margaux and Bernie lay on the beach towels, sunbathing. They had helped each other put on sunscreen.

Julie chose to swim around the waters, cooling off from the summer heat.

Later on, Margaux and Penrose chatted with each other, as they build a sandcastle.

Bernie had borrowed a canoe, and sailed around. Julie watched him from a safe distance in the water.

"Bernie!!!" Julie called, waving.

Bernie pumped his fist in the air, "Aye, aye, Lady Julie!"

Seamus spent that time chatting away with Perlas. He listened as she told him random bits of her life.

"At nights," she said, "I would swim in the ocean."

"Isn't that dangerous?" Seamus asked. They swung from the swing set. "What if you drown? And then no one can see you."

Perlas chuckled. "Oh, but I've lived here since I was born, Mousse. I know the waters."

"...yeah," Seamus flushed, embarrassed. Of course, he thought. What were you thinking? She lived here all of her life!

"I understand your concern though," she smiled. "So, don't worry. On stormy nights, I keep to my hut."

"That's good," he said. "Does it make a difference? Swimming at night?"

Perlas shrugged. "The water is cooler, perhaps."

"I'd love to try night swimming," he thought out loud. "But I'm sure they won't allow me. I might drown."

"Then maybe I can accompany you!"

As the sun rises again in the islands of Sulani, a tiny home had already risen.

The voices heard in the hut sounded far away, soft, but has the loudness of an echo. There is resonance.

In the hut's tiny kitchen stood Perlas of St. Taz, and three Sulani Elementals, who floated around her.

Their ghastly bodies reflected how glad they were to see one of the many children of the islands. Not only that, this child is of the ocean.

"Child," one said. "I am happy to see you again."

"As am I, my dear."

"We favor the children who remembers their roots," another one said. "That means we favor all of Sulani."

"Venerable Elementals, thank you," Perlas said, "for always looking after our people. Please guide us and protect us from harm."

"We shall."

"We have been thinking of meeting you, Perlas," the third one said. "We were planning to meet you first, without you calling us. It is urgent."

Perlas frowned, "Is something wrong?"

"We feel...a dark energy...looming this humble abode of yours," the first one said. "You needn't worry, for we casted it away from you."

"This dark energy is...made of...from..."

"From a creature of the night," the second one finished. "And this energy is not...not the same from the other creature of the night you had talked to before."

"It's not the Lord Straud?" Perlas thought, crossing her arms.

The first one shook her head. "No. And this one is not a...friend."

"Though we have casted it away from you," the second continued, "please take care of yourself, child."

Perlas smiled. "Thank you."

"Do not hesitate to call us," the third one said, "if trouble comes."

"Take care, daughter of the ocean."

They vanished.

As the mermaid finally emerged from the waters and had walked to her, the breath Penrose was holding in was released, letting out a huge gasp.

She doesn't have to call for the person living in the hut for this...person...mermaid—it's none other than Perlas!

"P—Perlas! You—you're a—" her mouth gaped like a fish. She doesn't know what to say.

"Rose, good evening," Perlas smiled. "Please don't run away. I didn't mean to scare you. I didn't know—"

"—gosh no wonder you're so beautiful and hot. You're a mermaid, Watcher, please marry me—" Perlas slapped a hand over her mouth.

Perlas raised a brow, a smirk on her lips.

Penrose reddened. "I...I mean, yes, you're gorgeous, but that's amazing. You're a merfolk!"

She took a deep breath, but it kept catching on her throat.

Perlas embraced her, "There, breathe, Rose, breathe."

Penrose exhaled. When they let go, Perlas looked at her.

"I didn't scare you?" she tilted her head.

Penrose shook her head. "No, Perlas. In fact, I'm amazed. I have heard legends and stories, about the sons and daughters of the ocean, read from journals and clippings about mermaid sightings but I have never seen a real one."

"You seem interested in the occult, Rose," Perlas noted.

"Well, it's part of my job as a private secretary of one of the royal households of Hidden Springs. The Royal Family has a lot of encounters with the occult in history, so we like to be informed. Recently, though, I don't think the family doesn't want to do with anything from them, especially when it comes to vampires," Penrose rambled, "The last vampiric noble house that the family considered as friends vanished a long time ago. I think they're called the Goldtooths? Or something."

Perlas listened to her, smiling. "You're very passionate."

Penrose blushed. "I love my job, even if I prefer being active. It's fun to learn about the history of the family, from the minute details to details such as these."

She shook her head. "A—Anyway, I didn't mean to bother you, Perlas. I'm sorry for bumping into you. I didn't mean to. I was just taking a walk. Needed fresh air."

Perlas touched her cheek.

"You do look troubled, my Rose," she mumbled, "what is it?"

"It's..." Penrose bit her lip. "It's complicated."

"Nothing is complicated to me," the mermaid's hand slid down to Penrose's. She took both of her hands.

Penrose exhaled.

She told her everything she had thought from her walk earlier.

After standing there for an eternity, Penrose brought herself back to reality. It's dark already, and she needs to get back soon, especially that they have to leave Sulani early.

The others might be worried for her already, but she knew that even if she and Bernie had some altercations, the latter will make up an excuse for her to keep the royals off her back. For that, even if she's pissed with her superior thinking with his dick, she can't help but be grateful. She'll have to make it up to him somehow.

As she starts to walk back home, and went past by the Hibiscus Hut, she heard faint splashing by the waters. She turned her attention to the sound. Watcher, she thought. Swimming at night? That's dangerous.

She approached the hut, going by the shores, wanted to at least warn this person to be careful swimming at night.

But this wasn't a person. This is...something else.

She stood there in shock. The person has fins—a mermaid! And this person seemed to notice that they were being watched, so they stopped.

They stared at each other for a while. Penrose stood there, almost not breathing. She doesn't want to move. What if she scares this creature? She doesn't want to disturb them.

Then, the mermaid approached her. With a blink, her tail vanished, and was replaced by a shimmering cloth around the waist. The mermaid approached her.

Penrose wanted to shout, to scream, to call for Perlas, who resides in the hut.

"I'm not sure if this is allowed for your age, Mousse, but this is Kava."

Perlas has given herself and Penrose a wooden glass of Kava.

"Wait, how old are you?" Seamus asked.

"I am as..." Perlas cleared her throat. "I am as old as Rose."

His eyes widened in shock. She's older than me?! he thought. Oh Watcher! I...I was having a crush on her...

He awkwardly laughed. "Oh, I—I thought we were the same age."

"You flatter me Mousse," Perlas giggled.

"So," she started. "How is it, Rose? The Kava?"

"Hmm," Penrose thought for a moment. "I feel calm, actually. It tastes a little bitter though. Very...very..."

She clicked her tongue, finger motioning into a circle. "It tastes very earthy. But it's calming!"

Perlas nodded. "It does have a calming effect, when prepared right. Good job, Rose."

Penrose smiled. She felt her cheeks hot.

"Come! Why don't you help me grill plantains?"

Perlas, Penrose, and Seamus ate the grilled plantains they have prepared together for lunch.

Their laughter filled the Hibiscus Hut's wooden walls as they shared stories from each of their lives.

At noon, Perlas prepared kava, for her guests. She had invited Seamus yesterday while they were fishing.

"Do you mind if I invite you in my home? You may bring along your family if you like," she had said.

"Yes—I mean, is it alright?"

"Yes!"

And so here she is now.

There was a knock on her door, and it was her guests, Seamus and Penrose.

"Hello, Perlas!" Penrose greeted.

"Hello, Rose," Perlas smiled. "Hello, Mousse."

"Hey..."

"Lord Seamus!" Penrose warned. To Perlas, she said, apologetically, "I'm sorry, Perlas. He invited his sister to come, but she declined. Something about looking after Duchess Margaux and Bernie."

"It's just—you know! Common courtesy!"

Perlas patted his shoulder. "Don't fret, Mousse. It's your vacation, and I didn't expect you'd bring everyone anyway. I'm glad you brought along dear Rose with you."

Penrose smiled, her pale skin flushing. Seamus raised a brow.

"Come, let's go inside."
