"golden beam of light"
If this was ever a case for follow your instinct and stay with the train - leaving Owosso the sky was socked in for the Pere Marquette 1225 Polar Express chase. However north of Henderson the sky showed signs of a breakthrough with the sun - well just before sunset a golden beam of light hit the rails and the 1225 making the gamble worth it - November 23, 2007.

"Township Must Buy Right of Way for Street Railway To Construct Belt Line," Windsor Record. November 14, 1912. Page 1. --- Sandwich East Council, in Attempting to Secure Service on Tecumseh Road Finds it Must Buy Land at Expense of $33,000 -Proposal to Abandon the Scheme and Extend Line To Belle River -Right of Way Already Secured. --- The township council and rate payers in the township of Sandwich East are in a quandary. Unsuccessful in attempting to make the street railway build a radial belt line in connection with the present line to Tecumseh, the councillors have found out that. even should the road decide to build the line, the township would be in a far worse plight than it is now.
Simultaneous with their efforts to make the street railway live up to the terms of a franchise given three years ago, comes the announcement that an extension of the present line will be made to Belle River, over 50 per cent, of a right of way having already been secured for the line.
Extend Line to Belle River. The street railway has decided to extend the line to Belie River, through negotiations made with prospective purchasers of a large strip of lake front property between Puce and Belle River The proposition that the street railway has agreed to is the extension of the line, provided it is not compelled to build the other line on the Tecumseh road. The company has also agreed to improve rove the service along along the river front, giving a half-hour schedule between the hours of 6 to 8 a.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. during the summer months.
The council through its solicitor has been informed that it must purchase the right of way for the Tecumseh road belt line. The rat payers would be taxed for right of way, which, it has been estimated, would cost between $33,000 and $35,000. This would mean about $35 for each taxpayer in the township. Manager Anderson will not be forced through the terms in the franchise, to give anything but a one-way service, and only about two cars a day, with a fare of 20 to 30 cents one way from Walkerville. Farmers living on Tecumseh road, wishing to go to Tecumseh. would be forced to come to Windsor and back by the river-front road.
Improve Present Service. If the township does not insist on the construction of the belt line it will receive, an agreement now being signed, the improved service on the present line, the extension to Belle River and payment of all cost on the present litigation.
Railroad crossings over three roads, the Grand Trunk, Pere Marquette and Essex Terminal, would have to be secured, not without litigation.
Open New Territory. The opening of the new property between Puce and Belle River will mean a great deal to the entire county. American capital will be brought in and new territory opened up. The prospective purchasers of the property are Mr. C. S. Isham, Mr P. N. Jacobsen and Mr. Thomas K. Wright. The land is at present owned by Mr. Samuel Stover.
The right of way secured by the railway is parallel with the Grand Trunk tracks throughout the entire distance.

Churnet Valley Railway Kingsley & Froghall 18th December 2023 por loose_grip_99 Por Flickr: USATC S160 2-8-0 5197 approaches Kingsley & Froghall station with the stock of the 14.00 Polar Express. 5197 was built in 1945 by Lima & was originally shipped from the US to China in 1945. It was purchased from the Chinese coal industry and imported into the UK in November 1995. The eagle-eyed will have already noticed that it has been renumbered 1225, has a fake cow-catcher and a smokebox door headlamp fitted! The engine in the original film was based on Pere Marquette 2-8-4 1225 so even in the unreal world of railway make-believe this engine is not "authentic"!

Two little cousins: 4-8-4 SP 4449 Daylight chills with her Lima Locomotive works relatives for a family reunion of sorts: 2-8-4 NKP 1225 from the New York, Chicago & St. Louis Railroad -- aka the Nickel Plate Road. Lima 2-8-4 Pere Marquette Railway 1225. The get together was a little steamy with late nights spent around the turntable hosted by the sisters, little 0-4-0 tank engine Little River 1 and her grown up sister, Little River 110 -- a 4-6-2 with a tender behind -- 1 invited a couple of her friends too, other 0-4-0 tank engines Flagg Coal 75 and Viscose 6.

They all enjoyed receiving loving rubs and attention. But 4449 wanted more attention, so, like a naughty engine, she stubbed her pilot truck on a turnout frog and made a big fuss. She enjoyed the extra attention while it lasted, but it meant that she wasn't allowed out to play with her cousins later.

Chasing the TC Turn, 1 of 4
Once again I heard the train in town and chased it back toward its home base of Cadillac. It's seen here off Lautner Road, east of Acme, Michigan. The train has dropped two cars of lumber, picked up two empties (near Williamsburg), and is headed back to Traverse City.
The Great Lakes Central uses a patchwork of former rail lines—here it's on a what was once the Pere Marquette Railway, and the Chicago and West Michigan Railway prior to that (in the 19th century). It was folded into the C&O system eventually.

This might sound weird but...
I want to hear more unhinged train rants. Please provide your answers to the following questions:
Your favourite train model.
Detailed information about the model you chose for question 1.
You 100% have a model train set in your basement. Please provide pictures and nerdy ramblings.
Ever thought about writing an IF set fully on a train? I think you'd knock it out of the park.
That is all. Thank you.
Ah, someone who enjoyed the train rant in the demo. I appreciate you, Anon.
And no, no no, it isn't weird, in fact I find it flattering!
Fun fact, that train rant is 742 words, which is just over 0.5% of the total current word count! But, onto the questions.
Easy, BR Standard Class 9F 2-10-0 Steam Locomotive. Although a close second is the Pere Marquette 1255, but that's just me being nostalgic for a Christmas movie.
While yes, the models used on the Shinkansen lines, (such as the N700S Enu-Nanahyakuesu series, which is the train the MC rides in Act one), I am and always will be a sucker for the steam trains over modern electric trains.
Main reason, the big smokestack. Now I know, I know, environmental pollution and all that, but you can't deny how cool they look, as well as acting as a visual signifier of an approaching train from a distance. Second, the whistle. Ohhhh the whistle. Modern trains have whistles, yes, but they are more akin to the horns on cars than traditional train whistles. There's just something distinct about them, but I love the noises. (I may or may not listen to distant steam train noises on youtube while trying to sleep.)
Also, the bell. Of course, not every model had a bell, but they might as well have done. When you think of trains, there's a good chance you associate them with bells, and for good reason.
Finally, the chugging of the wheels as they move along the tracks is iconic, and frankly one of my favourite noises.
Ah, went off on a bit of a tangent, should've been justifying my choice of specific train model, rather than steam trains as a whole.
The 9F Steam Locomotive was the last steam locomotive designed and constructed by British Railways during the 1950's. It was also one of the most powerful steam engines ever built.
I love this model because the front of the locomotive has these side plates, which to me, looks cute because it looks like it's trying to hide it's face because it's shy.
Tumblr media
The picture above is actually the last of the 9F classes to ever be constructed, The Evening Star, which was the last steam engine ever constructed by British Railways, and is on display at the National Railway Museum in York. I went there once, and ooh boy lemme tell you I spent ages there. My friends had to physically drag me out of the building. Slight side note though, why does the museum, which is British, have a coach from a Hikari-model shinkansen? The British Museum struck again.
Another reason I like the 9F class is because of it's versatility, which by that I mean that it was run as both passenger trains and freight trains. While they were originally designed as freight trains, some madlad decided to slap some passenger coaches on, and found that it worked wonders! Though if you ask me, it should've been a no-brainer that the most powerful engine you ever built would be a good versatile model.
I suppose by doing that I actually answered question 2 as well. huh. Although, I suppose I didn't go into details about the technical stuff, so here we go.
2)
The full name is the BR Standard Class 9F 2-10-0. All steam locomotive classes conceptualised by British Rail had a 6 digit code after their official name. This code tells you the number and layout of the wheels on the locomotive. For the 9F, you have two tiny wheels at the front with a radius of 3 feet, known as the leading wheels, made to help the train around corners and bends in the track, and then 10 MASSIVE wheels, which provide most of the acceleratory power, and are 5 feet in radius.
Traditionally, the wheels near the back of the locomotive were smaller, but the 9F had massive wheels across the entire length, meaning the rear grate had to be set higher than was standard. This had the effect of a smaller firebox than on other models, which meant that the stoker had to shovel coal more frequently in order to keep up maximum fuel efficiency in the steam engine. There is a reason most standard locomotives had a wheel map of 4-6-2.
There are 9 9F, (probably not intentional) that survived the scrap, and are in use in various locations across the UK. We have the aforementioned 92220 "Evening Star" on display at the National Railway musuem, but there are a few being used for other reasons.
In operation at Tourist Destinations/Steam Heritage Railway sites.
92134 (In service at the North Yorkshire Moors Heritage Railway. It is however missing it's original tender, which has been replaced with one from a class 5 73050.)
Tumblr media
92203 "Black Prince" (In service at the North Norfolk Railway.)
Tumblr media
92214 (In service at the Great Central Heritage Railway.)
Tumblr media
Non Operational:
92207 "Morning Star" (This one is in a bit of a sad state. It is literally just a scrap piece of metal tube, which really has no business being called a train. Some dedicated people are trying to restore it to pristine condition, however.)
Tumblr media
92212 (In service at the Mid Hants Heritage Railway until December 2019, when it's boiler ticket expired. Is currently being stored at the site.)
Tumblr media
92219 (Being stored at the Strathspey Heritage Railway, and is awaiting Restoration. Poor guy is covered in grime, really needs a wash.)
Tumblr media
92220 "Evening Star" (On display at the National Railway Museum in York.)
Tumblr media
92240 (Is undergoing restoration at the Bluebell Heritage Railway site.)
Tumblr media
92245 (Sadly, is being marked for scrap, and will bring the total survivors down to 8. The boiler is going to be given to 92212, which is a prime example of sharing is caring.)

3. I'M SORRY NO I DON'T. IF I DID I WOULD 100% BE CONSTANTLY SHOWING IT OFF.
But, it is definitely on my list of things I want in the future. Just couldn't afford one at the moment, unfortunately.
4. Oh, funny story that. I actually have, several times. While working on Onryo, I have had that itch of wanting to also have a second project. But I would not want to work on more than 2, as at that point I think it would just become excessive, and I doubt they would ever be finished.
So I did have 2 concepts that I couldn't decide on, which I posted on the Choice Of Games forum a few months ago. I'll link it below.
https://forum.choiceofgames.com/t/interest-check-thread/39424/5922?u=leinco
I have since decided on the concept of Broken Rails, and will devote myself to writing the first chapter once I have completed act 2 of Onryo. From that point, I will alternate between the two, writing a chapter for each, then switching, until both are done.
I have considered making a tumblr page for it, but I don't want to do anything like that until I have a demo ready, so I have held off.
Bonus fact about Broken Rails - the train you are on is a Class 9F! Because of the apocalyptic setting, electric trains are a no-go.
That is all, you have reached the light at the end of the tunnel. Or is it an approaching train?

MORE FANFIC!!!
With Christmas coming up, I have been working on this TTTE/Polar Express Crossover Fanfiction for the past couple weeks and I'm proud to say I finished it!!!
This Story features a TTTE OC I made named Noelle, and she's based off of the Pere Marquette No. 1225; the engine that pulls the Polar Express.
Lemme know what you all think of it!!! :D
Description:
Another Christmas passes on the Island of Sodor, and Flying Scotsman comes to visit the engines of the NWR. With this visit, he tells them of a legend heard on the Other Railway of a mysterious engine who makes an exclusive express run-on Christmas Eve. Little do Gordon and Thomas know that they would get the chance to see the legend herself.

Day 25: The Polar Express
Merry Christmas!
Info from The Polar Express Wiki, I've already gone over the story from last year. This one is mainly covering the info of the locomotive
The Polar Express is the titular magical 2-8-4 wheel configured American Berkshire type steam locomotive that transports children to the North Pole on Christmas Eve. The locomotive pulls five passenger cars (however, some scenes show the train with more or less), including an abandoned toy car at the front and an observation car at the back.
The train makes two stops in Grand Rapids, Michigan to pick up Hero Boy and Billy the Lonely Boy respectively. Later in the film, Smokey and Steamer, the locomotive's fireman and engineer, have to fix the light, so Hero Girl is put in charge of driving. Suddenly, Smokey and Steamer see something ahead on the track and call out to Hero Girl to stop the train, but she and Hero Boy have trouble figuring out which lever applies the brakes. Eventually, Hero Boy applies the brakes and the train stops just before it crashes into a huge herd of Caribou.
After the caribou get out of the way, Smokey and Steamer get back to the cab of the locomotive and get the train on its way again. However, Steamer finds the throttle is jammed due to a loose pin, causing the train to accelerate uncontrollably. Because of this, the Conductor ties Hero Boy and Hero Girl to the safety bar at the front of the locomotive to prevent them from falling off as they go down Glacier Gulch. The pin falls out and into an air vent, but comes out when the train goes down the gulch. Steamer manages to catch it with his mouth, only to swallow it by accident. When the train ends up on the Ice Lake, Smokey manages to get the pin out of Steamer's stomach by hitting his back with a shovel, but it works too well as the pin flies out of the locomotive and lands on the ice, causing it to crack. The train crashes through an iceberg and leans sideways. Smokey eventually decides to use the pin from his hair to fix the throttle and Steamer is able to control the speed again. Everyone soon notices the cracking ice, so Smokey and Steamer try to get the train back on the tracks with the Conductor navigating and succeed.
The Conductor, Hero Boy, and Hero Girl later climb along the locomotive to get back to the passenger cars.
The Polar Express in the film is based on the Pere Marquette 1225, a 1941 Berkshire N-1 class 2-8-4 locomotive built at the Lima Locomotive Works. The locomotive's design was used in the film, as well as its sounds, with the exception of its whistle, which came from Sierra Railway No. 3. Drawings of the locomotive were used to create the 3D model. Chris Van Allsburg chose this design because he used to play on the locomotive while attending games at the Spartan Stadium in East Lansing, Michigan, where it was placed on static display at the time.
Today, the 1225 is housed in Owosso, Michigan and is operated and maintained by the Steam Railroading Institute. The 1225 frequently hauls passenger excursions in Michigan throughout the year, including the world-famous North Pole Express trips throughout the months of November and December.
In both the original book and the film adaptation, the Polar Express is painted black along with its tender. Its tender in the film also has the words "Polar Express" in white on both sides, something which is not in the book.
In some merchandise, the words on the tender are yellow instead of white. The locomotive is also often depicted with the number 1225, always in the same color as the words on the tender, under its side cab windows, like Pere Marquette 1225, but no number appears in neither the book nor the film.

“Old Dock Piles Provide Firewood,” Border Cities Star. October 20, 1932. Page 5. --- THE Pere Marquette Railway is building a new slip dock in Windsor, and in doing so has to pull out hundreds of wooden piles and replace them with new ones. The discarded piles, which make splendid firewood, are being turned over to the unemployed, who are cutting them up for winter fuel. The quantity will perhaps run into hundreds of cords. Here are Mr. Oswald Bennett of 361 California avenue. Sandwich, and Mr. J. H. LeClair of 316 McKay avenue. Windsor, working a crosscut saw on one of the big sticks. Many jobless men are getting fuel stocks.

Bishop John Melville Burgess (March 11, 1909 – August 24, 2003) was the twelfth bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts in Boston (1970-75) and the first African American to head an Episcopal diocese.
He was the son of Theodore Thomas (a dining car waiter on the Pere Marquette Railway) and Ethel Inez Beverly (a kindergarten teacher) Burgess. He attended Central High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He received a BA and an MA from the University of Michigan. He earned an M.Div from the Episcopal Theological School, of which he was one of the first African American graduates.
After beginning his ministry in his home parish of St. Philip’s Episcopal; a Colored Episcopal Mission in Grand Rapids and Cincinnati, he became the Episcopal Chaplain. He became the first African American to serve as a canon at Washington National Cathedral. He moved to the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts as an archdeacon of Boston’s parishes and missions and superintendent of what became named the Episcopal City Mission. He was the first African American archdeacon in New England.
He was elected on the first ballot as a suffragan bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts, becoming the first African American to serve the Episcopal Church as a spiritual leader in a predominantly white diocese. When he was installed as diocesan bishop, he became the first African American to head an Episcopal diocese.
He was known for his efforts to revitalize urban ministry, confront racism in public schools, support prison reform, build bridges between Black and white communities, and improve the efficiency of the diocese. He was an important ecumenical leader in maintaining peace during the Boston school desegregation crisis. His wife, Esther Burgess, was active as a peaceful demonstrator against segregation.
Following his retirement in 1975, he taught pastoral theology at Berkeley Divinity School at Yale and Yale Divinity School. He was awarded honorary degrees from the University of Michigan, Boston College, Assumption College, the University of Massachusetts, Trinity College, Northeastern University, and St. Augustine’s College. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

This universe has anthropomorphic animals or “furries” in this universe. If you’re not comfortable with that, then please just block and move on. Any hate will receive an automatic report and block. Please be kind to each other on this blog.
This universe will eventually be completely open but for now it is closed. Once it’s open, anyone will be able to make their own ocs and have fun, but for now, until I’m sure it’s where I want it to be, it will be closed.
Spam likes/reblogs are more than welcome. It tells me you like my content. It encourages me.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. I’ll keep anonymous asks open but I can easily turn it off if too many hate comments or negative anons come in.
I do write and draw but I do not take requests for art other than writing. I will not write or draw anything if you constantly ask me for it. That will only be counted as spam and you will get a block.
Please respect my boundaries, I’m not very comfortable with smut asks or anything illegal (ie: p*dophillia, r*pe, etc.).
If there is anything that makes you uncomfortable, please tell me and I will tag them accordingly. The following trigger tags so far are: Violence TW, Blood TW.
About:
This universe revolves around a world full of magic, magical beings, and of course, dragons. However, the dragons here are not quite one would expect. The locomotives themselves are dragons in disguise, or wyrms, I might as well say or call them. These particular dragons are known as rail wyrms. They are strange creatures, having evolved to disguise themselves as locomotives, only breaking their disguise when they see fit, or if threatened. I will make posts about the railwyrms themselves, explaining in them in depth as time goes on some keep a look out for the lore tag: lore: searching the archives
Characters:
These are the characters I have so far.
Lily: Lily is an anthropomorphic lioness that acts as the conductor for the Ancient Heights Railway. She works hard nonstop to make sure the trains arrive safely and on time. She double acts as a protector of both the passengers and the railwyrm itself, using her strength to keep dangers at bay.
Ferdinand: A railwyrm designed to look like a Big Boy. He’s a gentle giant and often acts as a tourist attraction to guests. He enjoys basking in the sun during his off time. Other times, he’s carrying passengers to and fro while acting as a guardian for the railway. He’s the leader of the railwyrm burrow at the railway, and has a strong bond with Lily.
Nicholas: I don’t own the Polar Express in any shape or form, this is just my own version of it. He is designed to look like a Pere Marquette. He is a rare railwyrm known as a Frost Railwym. He was born with a form of melanism. He was taken in and raised by Chris, the homeless man in the movie after Chris found him when Nicholas was young after the railwyrm was beaten and kicked out of the burrow in the Arctic. Chris took him and nursed him back to health. Once Nicholas was big enough, the idea for the Polar Express was born and he had been pulling passenger trains ever since. Nicholas is a gentle giant and is playful most times, acting like a giant puppy more than anything. Chris is his owner, which is the hobo in the movie. Tom is the name of the conductor. Smokey and Steamer are the same.
