Proactive Health Management: The Essential Role of LFTs, KFTs, and PCOD Profiles
In the journey towards overall well-being, understanding our body's intricate mechanisms and addressing potential health concerns is pivotal. Regular health check-ups are not just a formality; they hold the key to early detection, proactive management, and ultimately, empowerment over our health. In this article, we delve into the importance of three crucial tests – Liver Function Tests (LFTs), Kidney Function Tests, and PCOD Profile Tests – as cornerstones of a health-conscious lifestyle.
Unlocking the Mystery of LFTs:
Liver Function Tests (LFTs) play a pivotal role in monitoring the health of one of our body's most vital organs. The liver, often referred to as the body's chemical factory, carries out numerous functions essential for digestion, metabolism, and detoxification. Liver Function Tests (LFTs) provide insights into the liver's functionality by measuring enzyme levels and other markers. Elevations in these markers might indicate conditions such as liver disease, hepatitis, or even alcohol-related issues. Early detection through LFTs empowers individuals to make informed lifestyle choices and seek timely medical intervention.
Importance of Kidney Tests:
Kidney Function Tests offer a glimpse into the efficiency of our body's filtration system. The kidneys play a critical role in maintaining fluid and electrolyte balance, regulating blood pressure, and eliminating waste products. Creatinine and blood urea nitrogen levels in kidney tests help evaluate how well the kidneys are functioning. Detecting abnormalities in these levels can be indicative of kidney disease or dysfunction. Being proactive about kidney health through regular tests empowers us to adopt dietary changes, manage blood pressure, and potentially prevent irreversible damage.
Cracking the PCOD Code:
PCOD Profile Tests are essential for women's health, particularly those struggling with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOD). PCOD is a hormonal disorder that affects menstruation, fertility, and can lead to metabolic imbalances. PCOD Profile Tests encompass hormone assessments and other markers that aid in diagnosing and managing PCOD. Early identification empowers women with PCOD to collaborate with healthcare providers, adopt lifestyle adjustments, follow PCOD diet chart and explore treatment options to improve overall quality of life and reproductive health.
Conclusion:
Knowledge is indeed power, and in the realm of health, it equips us to take charge of our well-being. Regular monitoring through these tests transforms passive healthcare into active health management. Rather than waiting for symptoms to manifest, individuals armed with test results can take preventative measures and make informed decisions about their diet, exercise routines, and medical consultations.
By embracing these tests as allies in our wellness journey, we turn the tide from mere reactionary healthcare to a proactive approach that ultimately leads to better quality of life and longevity. So, let us seize the power to empower our health – one test at a time.

PCOD Profile Tests: Understanding Hormonal Imbalances and Health Implications
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a complex hormonal disorder affecting millions of women worldwide. One of the key diagnostic tools for identifying PCOS is the PCOD Profile Test. This test plays a crucial role in assessing various hormonal parameters and aiding in the accurate diagnosis and management of PCOS. In this article, we delve into the details of the PCOD Profile Test, its significance, and what to expect from the results.
What is PCOD Profile Test?
The PCOD Profile Test is a diagnostic test specifically designed to evaluate hormonal imbalances associated with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) or Polycystic Ovarian Disorder (PCOD). PCOS is characterized by irregular menstrual cycles, elevated androgen levels, and polycystic ovaries. The PCOD Profile Test helps in identifying these hormonal irregularities and provides valuable insights for diagnosis and treatment planning.
Components of PCOD Profile Test:
1. Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) Levels:
Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and FSH are hormones produced by the pituitary gland that play a crucial role in regulating the menstrual cycle and ovarian function. In PCOS, there is often an imbalance between LH and FSH levels, which can lead to irregular ovulation and fertility issues.
2. Testosterone Levels:
Testosterone is a male sex hormone, but it is also produced in smaller amounts in women. Elevated levels of testosterone are commonly associated with PCOS and can lead to symptoms such as hirsutism (excess hair growth), acne, and male-pattern baldness.
3. Estrogen Levels:
Estrogen is a primary female sex hormone responsible for the development and regulation of the female reproductive system. Imbalances in estrogen levels can impact menstrual cycles and fertility.
4. Progesterone Levels:
Progesterone is another essential hormone involved in regulating the menstrual cycle and maintaining pregnancy. Low progesterone levels can indicate issues with ovulation and may contribute to infertility.
5. Prolactin Levels:
Prolactin is a hormone primarily associated with lactation. Elevated prolactin levels can disrupt the normal menstrual cycle and contribute to infertility.
6. Insulin Resistance:
Insulin is a hormone that regulates blood sugar levels. Insulin resistance, a condition where the body's cells become resistant to the effects of insulin, is commonly associated with PCOS and can lead to weight gain and difficulty in managing blood sugar levels.
Significance of PCOD Profile Test:
The PCOD Profile Test provides valuable information for the accurate diagnosis of PCOS and helps in understanding the underlying hormonal imbalances contributing to the condition. Early detection and diagnosis of PCOS are crucial for timely intervention and management to prevent long-term complications such as infertility, diabetes, and heart disease.
Interpreting PCOD Profile Test Results:
Interpreting PCOD Profile Test results requires careful consideration of various hormonal parameters and their respective reference ranges. Abnormalities in hormone levels, such as elevated testosterone or insulin resistance, may indicate the presence of PCOS. However, it is essential to consult a healthcare professional for proper diagnosis and interpretation of test results.
Conclusion:
The PCOD Profile Test is a valuable diagnostic tool for evaluating hormonal imbalances associated with PCOS. By assessing key hormonal parameters such as LH, FSH, testosterone, and insulin resistance, this test aids in the accurate diagnosis and management of PCOS. Early detection and intervention are crucial for improving outcomes and reducing the risk of long-term complications associated with PCOS. If you suspect you may have PCOS or are experiencing symptoms such as irregular menstrual cycles, hirsutism, or difficulty conceiving, consult your healthcare provider for proper evaluation and diagnosis.

Plant- Based Vs. Whey Protein Powder
The short answer is no. It comes down to what protein powder works best to supplement your lifestyle, activity and nutrition.
But, how do you tell the difference between them and decide which one is right for you?
Dhvani Shah, a nutritionist, breaks down the points of difference between whey protein and plant-based protein.
Whey protein is a concentrate of the protein “whey” found in animal milk, usually isolated from cow/buffalo milk and then dried into a powder for consumption.
Does One Have A Superior Protein Profile?
Whey protein is a high biological value protein since it has a complete essential amino acid profile. Whey contains all the 9 essential amino acids to make it a complete protein. Hence, no other protein is required to be eaten with it to compensate for the protein profile.
On the other hand, Plant-based ingredients (except soy) are devoid of one or more essential amino acids, making them incomplete proteins. However, a complete protein profile can be achieved by blending two or more sources.
Näck’s Plant Protein Powder combines protein from yellow peas, which is short of the essential amino acids cysteine and methionine but rich in lysine, with protein from rice which is low in lysine but very high in cysteine and methionine, giving it a complete protein profile.
Do They Have Different Effects On The Body?
Digestive distress and bloating are commonly associated with the consumption of whey protein. Milk contains lactose– a sugar that is an allergen for more than 60% of India’s population. It has been found that every second person you come across has some level of lactose intolerance.
Whey protein, though devoid of sugars, can contain traces of lactose that may be attributed to the gastric irritability some people face after consuming it. In addition, people with PCOD, insulin-resistant diabetes, hypothyroidism, and menstrual disturbances are usually advised to stay off lactose and dairy. Hence, Plant protein powder could be a good choice for this group of individuals. Plant protein powders rarely cause digestive distress due to the absence of any allergen.
Both whey and plant proteins( with combined sources) have a complete protein profile to effectively support muscle gain. However, with that said, plant protein is generally lower in BCAA ( Branched chain amino acids) vs whey protein , which is of high importance for muscle growth.
It can be difficult to navigate the battle between whey protein and plant protein. It all boils down to your individual diet, lifestyle and overall goals be it losing weight, building muscle or supplementing energy levels.
But, no matter your stance on the debate, there are numerous benefits to incorporating a protein powder supplement into your routine.
So, whey protein or plant protein? The choice is yours!

How can Keto diet help cure PCOS ?
Tumblr media
PCOS is a reproductive disorder that affects about 10 percent of all women. The symptoms are upsetting: infrequent or absent menstrual periods, infertility, weight gain, acne, facial hair growth such as mustaches and sideburns, sometimes even losing scalp hair. Blood tests almost always show insulin resistance and higher male hormones. Often the ovaries are found on ultrasound to be dotted with cysts.
Women with PCOS are typically treated with a cocktail of drugs: birth control pills, medications to stop male hair growth, the diabetes drug metformin to lower blood sugar, sometimes medications for depression and anxiety. Then, if they want to get pregnant, fertility drugs are usually given to try to stimulate ovulation. At least 50 per cent of the time the fertility drugs don’t work and other techniques, such as in vitro fertilization are tried.
Here are some of the benefits that one could draw following a keto diet to combat PCOS/PCOD.
Insulin resistance and glucose intolerance are improved: Despite its name, cystic ovaries are not found in all women. But almost all women with the condition — whether thin or obese — show greater insulin resistance and impaired glucose tolerance than women without the condition, It is insulin that really drives the whole process and insulin release is caused by carbohydrates.Numerous studies are now showing adopting the low-carb ketogenic diet improves insulin sensitivity and glucose intolerance among those with PCOS.
Weight loss: Losing weight on a keto diet becomes easier and is one of the many reasons that women start a keto diet. You see, if your body is well adapted to burning fat for energy, it can then more readily use your own fat stores for energy instead of all the glucose it would normally use
Reduced cravings: Cravings are often caused by disordered insulin. As you have carbs, your insulin levels shoot up, only to drop rapidly, causing your body to crave more sweet things and carbs. As soon as you satisfy that craving, your insulin levels shoot up again, starting the cycle all over again.A ketogenic diet helps to stabilise those insulin levels and can really help to manage those cravings.
Improved hormone profile: One study conducted with women with PCOS who followed a keto diet for 6 months found significantly reduced testosterone, fasting insulin and improved LH/ FSH ratio. The women also lost about 12% of their body weight over the 6 months.
Improved cardiovascular health: Research shows that a keto diet is also good for the heart, that it helps to lower cholesterol and boost levels of high density lipoprotein (the good cholesterol). This promotes heart health. Bear in mind that women with PCOS are at risk of cardiovascular disease.
Reduces Acne : A ketogenic diet also seems to help with acne. High levels of insulin tend to lower the levels of IGF-1 binding protein in the body. Women with PCOS tend to have lower levels of IGF-1 BP already and this leaves higher levels of IGF-1 in the body, causing your acne to get worse. If we can lower insulin levels, we’ll boost IGF-1 binding protein which will lower IGF-1 levels and improve acne.
Improved pregnancies and reduced risks of health problems after menopause with a ketogenic diet: Most of the focus on women with PCOS is in the adolescent and early adult years when infertility, acne and weight gain are the prominent features. But women with PCOS who get pregnant have much higher rates of complications during pregnancy including gestational diabetes (a disorder of carbohydrate intolerance), pre-eclampsia (high blood pressure during pregnancy) and bigger babies over 9 lbs (which are a risk for Caesarean deliveries and an independent risk for future diabetes.)Moreover, women in menopause, who had PCOS, have higher rates of cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, and type 2 diabetes,Researchers say that the entire profile of PCOS suggests limiting carbohydrates and adopting a low-carb ketogenic diet may help with all these related problems, no matter what the age and stage of PCOS in affected women.
At Mama Keto, the diet plan is well customised to 70% fat, 25% protein and 5% carbs, and we noticed that women with PCOS/PCOD following a keto diet for consecutive 3 months have seen noticeable difference in maintaining the regular menstrual cycles, less hair fall and acne issues along with sustainable weight loss. Following a keto diet under right supervision along with the minimum physical activity improves overall health and well being on a long run.
