This might be the Hispanic in me showing, but one of my headcanons about Sonic’s bio family is essentially, “all of your possible parents are now a huge extended family, and no one knows which one of them you spawned from”

Hear me out.

This works best if Jules, Aleena, and Paulie are siblings. Chuck’s their eldest brother, while Brenda and Bernadette married in—but they’re all very close. Brenda and Aleena had their kids at about the same time (I’m talking days, if not hours, apart), and while Brenda only had one, Aleena shocked the family with three.

(Alternatively, Aleena only had two, and one of them was born to Bernadette—again, around the same time. That’s largely irrelevant, though.)

So naturally, you’ve got a very confused mom getting wheeled to the nursery to see her babies, like:

“I thought you said there were only three.”

A hapless nurse, or possibly Jules: “…Yes?”

Aleena, shaking: “Then why are there four of them???”

Whoever their parents are, Tania grows up very, very close with Sonic, Manic, and Sonia. They’re effectively siblings despite being born cousins. Naturally, everyone in the family leads very busy lives—and whether you imagine them in a royal household, in the midst of a rebellion, or as commoners in peacetime, that doesn’t matter much either. They’re family, they have each other—which means that if one of them has to to work a particular night, someone else is babysitting their kids that night. And they all do it to each other, so it evens out.

(Except for Chuck. Chuck has no kids of his own. He insists he get to help because he loves his nieces, nephews, and siblings, but Chuck will get paid for babysitting.)

They’re not alone, either. Longclaw is functionally the matriarch/cryptid of the family—no one knows for sure how old she is or how she’s related to them, but they do know she’s lived through two wars, two virus outbreaks, and despite her kind demeanor, has epic tales of the time she fought Black Doom with a spear. Maddie was once friends with somebody’s cousin, and while that cousin is long gone, she and Tom are now too close to the family to leave, and always organize the family potlucks because no one else wants to. And Sonic and Sonia’s adoptive parents from Underground—haven’t thought about them long enough to have names for them yet—are here too. They’re aunts and uncles who are slightly more well off than the rest of the family, so if there’s ever financial trouble, and they catch wind of it, they’ll always race to the struggling one’s doorstep with a warm meal and a modest gift of money, hidden in a couch cushion.

The point is, they’re close. They rely on each other a lot. Somebody would always be available to take the kids. The kids would need not look very far to find loving arms to hold them, or teach them about the world, or patch up a scraped knee or two. Or eight.

And the moment Sonic brings home Tails?

Well, they’re already shuffling four kids between them. What’s a fifth, in the midst of all this chaos?

And now I'm doing other blue hedgehogs who are all in some way related to Sonic. I wanted to make them all a bit more different from Sonic in terms of design and color to set them apart.

Jules is very different (for reasons), while I couldn't make myself change Charles/Chuck too much. Paulie and Nicky are more refined designs than outright redesigns though.

All of this is supposed to be part of a larger AU that I’ve had in my head for a while. They’re all related to Sonic in some way, but also not. Let’s see. :)

And then I made a short gag comic about Silver’s naivety (and finger pointing), and a green hedgehog, who is totally not Manic. *wink* Sonia and Sonic are unamused. Also Gold and Tania/Anita are there too. (I will also switch to using purely Tania from here on out because that’s too many tags already.)

Tomorrow I will start posting rough comic pages because I’ve lost control of my life.

My endless squandering of my precious and finite time on this earth browsing ye olde Sonic wiki has enlightened me to further odd little details about the old Sonic Manga, and oh, are they VERY odd. 

So for those of you who don’t know, way back in the foggy early days of the franchise, Sonic had a tie-in manga in Japan. It is... veeery different to what one might typically envision for Sonic. 

In this iteration of things, “Sonic” is in fact the super heroic alter ego of a ten year old hedgehog boy called ‘Nicky’, who transforms into Sonic ala Shazam while having no conscious memory of doing so. Nicky is a well meaning, somewhat nerdy kid who lives with his mother and father and little sister in a place called Hedgehog Town, which is occasionally menaced by Dr. Eggman (who disguises himself as the local police officer ‘Dogman’). When he’s not Sonic, Nicky is also often targeted by the local bully, Anton . This manga is notable for being the place where Amy Rose and Charmy Bee come from (Yeah, that is in fact Charmy up there), Amy being Nicky’s girlfriend while also expressing a rather strong affection for Sonic. 

Like I said, it’s pretty wild and far removed from what SEGA’s general vision of Sonic is now a days, but all the same it’s interesting to look at. Point of order though- in the Manga, Nicky transforms into Sonic and back into Nicky. 

This however isn’t where it gets odd. 

As said, Nicky lives with his mother and father. His father, Paulie, is a pilot.

And as it turns out, Paulie had an encounter with Sonic around 20 years before the start of the series. Basically Paulie was testing a jet plane, only for something to go wrong and send him on a crash course. Then, Sonic appeared and helped to guide him to safety, saving his life in the process while also making sure the plane landed near the house of Brenda, who would go on to be Paulie’s wife. Sonic then disappeared, while Paulie would proceed to revere Sonic for both saving his life and indirectly introducing him to his future wife, going so far to have a Sonic emblem sewn into the back of his jacket.

So yeah, odd little plot detail there, isn’t it? Well, it gets even odder from there. 

For it turns out that once upon a time, Paulie had a good friend. A fellow hedgehog pilot called ‘Sonic Joe’, who died in a tragic plane accident. 

Look familiar? 

Now to be clear- I do not have access to any of these stories and am only going by what information I can get off of the Sonic wiki that is available at the moment, and so far all it says about this Sonic Joe guy is that he died in a plane accident and was a friend of Paulie’s. 

Without any further context though? It definitely looks like ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ is either the ghost or reincarnation of Sonic Joe, currently possessing or otherwise LIVING in Nicky and using him as a vessel to allow him to perform his heroics. 

If so? We have officially stumbled upon the weirdest origin for Sonic ever conceived! 

Again though, I’m just speculating based on info off the Sonic wiki about obscure manga and as such I am missing crucial context, but on the outside looking in? It’s definitely got some rather odd implications about who or what Sonic is within the world of the Manga.

Sonic Underground Reprise: Hedgehog Family Tree Hedge

Here- the parents, the aunts, the uncles, the grandpa and grandma's and even some cousins.

Now, are most of these characters relevant to the main plot? No. But if you have followed me for any amount of time you should know of my love of expanding character's family trees.

Parlouzer Lore (paternal side)

Charlotte was a sailor who split her time exploring and fishing with her crew

she may or may not have been a pirate

Maurice was a skilled carpenter who worked from his home workshop in Port Mobius

he was just a humble, if a bit on the quiet side,

the two met by chance when Charlotte was exploring the area while Maurice was trying to get groceries

instantly charmed with one another, they kept in touch and she made it a point to always come back to see him every chance she could

after about 5 years of this she proposed to him and the two were married the next day

Chuck was born shortly after (honeymoon baby)

he mostly stayed on the mainland with his father while Charlotte continued working on the high seas

Julius was born when Charles was 12, and Pauline Pauli when he was 19

Chuck left for college early at 16, so he wasn’t particularly close with his younger brothers until they were practically adults

Jules ran away when he was 13 to join the circus, completely cutting off contact for nearly 5 years

At 17, he and several other members of the circus (including Argus) were arrested in Casino City after being framed for treason by a rival performance troupe. Due to their age however, the two were given an alternative to jail time: enlistment, which they begrudgingly accepted (this was HIGHLY illegal btw, as both were underage and therefore not qualified to be enlisted)

around 3 years into service, Chuck got wind of the bullshit charges placed on his brother and threatened to raise hell if the two were not brought back home immediately

Jules and Argus were then hired as a part of the Royal guard where they were charged initially with guarding King Max’s son, Crown Prince Nigel

Pauli avoided trouble growing up, having taken more after his father than his lovely, impulsive older brothers

Ihe developed a passion for piloting and decided to start his own delivery business, which would be how he would meet his future wife Bernie

ditch the royal family part and exchange it for a powerful magic fam

Hatshe is the matriarch of a powerful magic guild, the Rising Sun, though she has retired from any official position

the Rising Sun was formed by Aman-Rapi long ago

Hatshe met Olgilvie when traveling through the Kingdom of Mercia when the then King requested the aid of the Rising Sun’s strangest magician (they had meant to request “strongest” but their had been a slight typo, luckily for them Hatshe was both)

Bastard son of a a duke, Olgilvie was knight renound for his skills with a blade as well as the strings

he was assigned to aide Hatshe in her assignment

the two did not get along initially, as both were headstrong individuals who had their own way of doing things, but eventually became friends, and later lovers

He ran off after her once her assignment had been completed and continued courting her back home

Layla is Aleena’s older sister, as well as the current leader of the Rising Sun

Though she may appear calm, collected, and regal, outside of official appearances she is a very much a dork who is not above a little mischief

she met Terios when the were children during the family’s travels

more specifically, she found his half dead body lie partway out of a river bank

he was taken in to the guild, where he showed strong promise in healing magic

childhood friends-> lovers, slowburn 160k words basically

everyone knew that they liked eachother except themselves

despite some initial mishaps, the guild has been thriving under her leadership

despite Robotnik’s efforts, their guild halls have remained hidden to him, as well as serving a safe havens for those trying to escape his reign

they work loosely with the Resistance, though Layla leaves it up to the individuals to come forwards and offer aid

Guess I’ll start off with a little info about one of my OCs for my Project Hoshiverse, which will consist of both a Sonic 06 rewrite, a fan comic series titled “Sonic Hoshi”, and a sequel fan comic series titled “Nicky the Hedgehog”, starring my take on the old Sonic manga character Nicky Parlouzer, who in my series is the shy, nerdy grandson of Sonic and aspires to be a stronger, braver hero like his father Paulie and grandfather Sonic. He will also be accompanied by my OC, his best friend Maddie the Hedgehog, a rough and tumble girl living in Sonic City located on South Island, she has aspirations of getting stronger and loves fighting and combat. She would befriend Nicky and help him in his own journey of getting stronger, setting out on various adventures across South Island and beyond, even if it gets the both of them into trouble. She’s full of fiery spirit and is determined to help Nicky learn to harness his secret powers, while also in search of worthy opponents to test her own strength.
