Half of Israelis support postponing attack on Gaza
Friday’s poll revealed that about half of Israelis wanted to refrain from any invasion of Gaza, indicating a decline in popular support for Israel’s actions in its war against Hamas.
The Maariv newspaper polled a representative sample of 522 Israeli adults. The margin of error is 4.3 per cent.
29 per cent of Israelis backed an immediate large-scale ground offensive, while 49 per cent favoured postponing the operation. 22 per cent were undecided, according to the Maariv poll. The results are in stark contrast to a similar poll conducted on October 19, when 65 per cent of Israelis supported a major ground offensive.
“From a breakdown of the answers, it emerges that there is no division in accordance with political camp or demographics, and that it is almost certain that the developments on the matter of the hostages, which is now topping the agenda, have had a great impact on this shift [in opinion].”
I don’t usually post anything about politics or current events on my blog.
I am more active with such things on my other socials, in real life, and so on. This blog was meant to be a sort of escape for my mind, for my mental health.
But what a fucking privilege it is to stay silent and look the other way. Thousands of children dead, thousands of fathers and mothers have lost their children, thousands of children have lost their parents.
This conflict is in no way a war. This is genocide.
Today is the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. Keep talking about it. Keep it on the front page. Do not let a genocide continue in silence.
UN: Gaza healthcare system ‘completely out of service’, 700 Gazans killed in a single day
The main UN agency in Gaza said it would be forced to halt its operations by Wednesday evening (Thursday morning Eastern Time) due to fuel shortages.
The UN shutdown will further exacerbate the humanitarian crisis as Israeli airstrikes on besieged Gaza have reportedly killed more than 700 people overnight.
Gaza is running out of fuel to keep working hospitals, bakeries and other vital organisations in the region. Earlier, the UN Secretary-General called for an immediate ceasefire on both sides of the conflict to allow humanitarian aid to reach the Palestinians. His call sparked fierce controversy at the UN, and Israel has called for his resignation. Guterres said:
“Protecting civilians does not mean ordering more than one million people to evacuate to the south, where there is no shelter, no food, no water, no medicine and no fuel – and then continuing to bomb the south itself. It is important to also recognise the attacks by Hamas did not happen in a vacuum. The Palestinian people have been subjected to 56 years of suffocating occupation. They have seen their land steadily devoured by settlements and plagued by violence; their economy stifled; their people displaced and their homes demolished.”
