I really don’t have words for what today meant to me. . The opportunities I’ve been afforded in this life of mine continually blow me away. My heart is full of gratitude. . The people I’m lucky enough to know, that support me and cheer for me simply overwhelm me. . This mare that we raised @thedxranch is pretty dang incredible. Paisley, I’m sure gonna miss you and I know someone is going to be blessed to own you. . I’m not a colt starter, yet @tammypate04 offered me the chance to start a colt at her event and I said yes. . For a year I’ve thought about how today would go. It was better than my most perfect visualization. . If you don’t continually get outside your comfort zone, you’ll never improve. I am way outside my comfort zone here, and I’m loving every minute. Every moment is a chance to improve myself... . Thank you @artofthecowgirl for pushing all of us to be better people, and for putting supportive women in the same place. The world could sure use more of what we are experiencing at this event. . #artofthecowgirl2020 #artofthecowgirl #thedxranch #horsemanship #alwayslearning #alwayslearningalwaysgrowing #paisleybemine #aqha #aqhaproud #quarterhorse (at Phoenix, Arizona) https://www.instagram.com/p/B7up6UOA7KL/?igshid=en0vo5btkr6u

“Don’t compare your life to others. . There is no comparison between the sun and the moon. . They both shine bright when it is their time.” . I don’t know where this quote came from, but I love it. . It’s true. . Comparison will steal your joy. . You can only be you. . Your life, your decisions — they’re yours. . Your talent, your ability —they’re yours. That said, with hard work, dedication and a good attitude you can and will improve. . Will I be the handiest colt starter at @artofthecowgirl next week? Not by a long shot. But I’m willing to share what I know, put myself out there and not compare myself to anyone else because everyone’s journey is their own to take. . I want to share with those attending the event that you don’t have to be handy or wolf-y or fork-ed to start a colt. That you can stack the deck in your favor. . My goal is to show those that may want to start a colt that anything is possible. . And hopefully I’ll make Miss Paisley here, look like the rockstar we believe her to be. . #cowgirlspirit #comparisonstealsjoy #doyou #paisleybemine #thedxranch #artofthecowgirl #hifromsd #ranchlife #aqhaproud #marepower #girlpower (at The DX Ranch) https://www.instagram.com/p/B7Q6vrEAr9V/?igshid=1j8csi9mccl2b

It’s Friday! . And surprisingly I actually know that! Half the time I have no idea what day of the week it is! . Does anyone else struggle with knowing what day of the week it is? Or am I alone? Bueller? . Also, isn’t this photo of me on Paisley, from @artofthecowgirl, taken by my sister from another mister @c.lazy.j.designs so good? . #artofthecowgirl2020 #coltstartingmagic #horsebackriding #ranchphotography #cowgirllife #paisleybemine #aqha #ranchlife #coltstarting #cowgirlsrock #adventuregram #horseofinstagram #adventureinspired #cowgirls #liveoutdoors #horseoftheday #horsegirl #amazing_shots #outdoorslife #adventureinspired (at Outside the Turn) https://www.instagram.com/p/B8SPIHAgw_s/?igshid=15k7l2ioaqkji

Paisley sure did me proud today! . First ride. . Second say being saddled. . First time being saddled from the right. . She thought she was really doing something backing her ears at @tammypate04’s horse, Smoke. . What gorgeous weather arizona has given us! And @artofthecowgirl has put on a spectacular event in for the second year in a row. If you’re not here, you’re missing THE BEST western trade show, and handiest women in the business. Period. . #artofthecowgirl2020 #artofthecowgirl #thedxranch #paisleybemine #aqha #aqhaproud (at Phoenix, Arizona) https://www.instagram.com/p/B7xMGmSAjmJ/?igshid=493c6drngd3

I spent quite a few years pretending I liked starting colts. . I mean in theory I did. I liked how my colts rode because I’d built that relationship from the beginning. . But in my head I was in full on panic. My anxiety level was through the roof. . I’m so grateful I was able to overcome that fear. . Today, I look forward to helping the next one I get to start. No anxiety. No second guessing: straight on belief in what I’ve learned from life and from the horse and from those who’ve done more of it than me. . What’s something you once struggled with and overcame? . #artofthecowgirl2020 #coltstarting #cowgirlsdoitbetter #cowgirlshit #horsemanship #horsetraining #paisleybemine #aqha #aqhaproud https://www.instagram.com/p/B8uCE34AOkU/?igshid=w9ooeceh204y

When we believe in ourselves -- our skill, our feel, our ability, all the work we've put into our chosen passions, we can only succeed. . BUT we will only succeed if we choose to focus on the positive. . If negativity is first in our minds, if that's all we can focus on, we'll build problems in horses (and people) that aren't there. Heck, we'll build problems in ourselves that aren't there either if all we do is focus on the bad, the things that didn't go right, the things we are certain won't go right -- the list could be endless. . I spent years being a "glass is half empty" kinda girl, but with the help of others in my life and my own realization that negativity will only hinder us, I've learned (most of these lessons the hard way), that you have to focus on what went well. The rest will take care of itself. . I haven't had a bad ride on a horse since I can't recall -- and if I do have a bad moment, or bad day -- well that's *my* choice to let a circumstance or someone else ruin it. Positivity is infectious and the world could sure use more of it. . Are you a glass half-empty or glass half-full kinda being? And what is the biggest lesson you've learned in your life to date? . There was a time, in the not so recent past, in which I was willing to sacrifice my horsemanship for the sake of competition/winning. . I’ve since learned, and my horses are grateful to me for this lesson, that there are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going, and that includes winning. . I want a partner, a horse that’s willing to go to the ends of the earth for me because he trusts me, because I’ve never let the competition side take over doing what’s best for him mentally and physically. . That’s not to say that I won’t do the right things to help him physically If he needs them: shoeing, injections, extra groceries, but I want a horse that’s confident in what I’m asking of them. . Sometimes going slow is the best way to go fast. . #horsemanship #artofthecowgirl2020 #goslowtogofast #paisleybemine #aqha #coltstarting #coltstartingmagic #leesmithhorsemanship https://www.instagram.com/p/B7_Y3KogcTN/?igshid=10w3y7axsvjok
