[Image Description: A digital painting of The Hatchling, The Prisoner, and Solanum. The three of them are floating in space; there are a number of sparce stars seen in the background. The Hatchling is in the center, they are looking slightly upward and have their arm outstretched above them, reaching out. Above their outstretched hand is the Eye of The Universe as seen from space, a black sphere with purple lighting clouds obscuring half of it. The Prisoner is on the right, they are in a relaxed position and their eyes are closed. They have their left arm resting softly on The Hatchling’s shoulder in a reassuring manner. Solanum is on the left, she is relaxed and leans backward; her eyes are closed and she has a slight smile. Her left arm is wrapped gently around The Hatchling’s waist in a comforting way. Her other arm rests at her side. There is a black border around the image. End Image Description.]
So excited to share my piece for the @travelers-encore-zine ! Thanks so much to all the awesome people who helped make this possible! <3

Speedpaint showing the creation of my entry for the @travelers-encore-zine from last year (2022). You can see the original post of the image here!
[Video Description: A minute long timelapse showing the painting of the linked image above and included below. It starts with showing basic shapes for placements of the elements in the image, going then into the painting of the space background, which has several iterations, along with the painting of the windowpanes and interior floor. Next the transparent .PNG for The Eye of the Universe appears on screen as I begin to copy the relative same shape off to the side, moving it around to line it up with my own for gauging shapes. The Eye signal blocker and the Prisoner are shown drawn and painted next (the Prisoner having an official reference sheet of the character pulled up to the side to reference their clothing patterns and colors). The remainder shows the burnt edges of the picture textures added around the full circumference of the image, ending with some last lighting adjustments and color balancing. End Video Description.]
Tumblr media
[Image Description: A scene showing the observation deck aboard the Stranger where the Eye Signal Blocker control is located. The Prisoner stands before a floor-to-ceiling window, looking outwards to a view of open space with the Eye shining brightly in the top left of the image. The Prisoner stands next to the Eye Signal Blocker control with their left hand placed upon the switch that would turn the mechanism off. The whole image is bathed in a blue/green glow, and the edges of the image are bordered in white as if it were a photograph. The edges of this photograph appear to be smoldering, a red/orange haze coming off of them. The entire image itself is bordered in dark blue. End Image Description.]

A Thank You
With the OWTE Fanzine going live in one week from today, I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who has made and continues to make this project possible.
Firstly, I want to thank the mod team for all of their dedication and hard work, even to as far back as March when this project was first conceptualized. To Z, for providing technical artistic consultation, insight, and creative direction (most notably with the zine layout). To Skye, for assisting in communication between the mod team and contributors, overseeing the contributors' Discord server in my absences, and creative direction (most notably with the contributor spotlights). And to Moon, for helping get this idea off the ground since day one, co-piloting the creation of the contributors' Discord server, co-creation and formatting on much of the artwork/graphic designs seen on the Tumblr, Twitter, and Itch.io pages (as well as the zine itself), and relentless brainstorming efforts (and often active participation) in bringing every aspect of this project to life. Without this team and their talents, patience, and dedication, the OWTE Fanzine could not become a reality. Thank you mods.
Secondly, I want to thank every contributor who has been involved in this project, both the ones who were able to see it to the end, and the ones who could only be with us for a short time. For everyone's hard work over these last few months, the patience and kindness and timeliness provided throughout our many communications, the enthusiasms and encouragements and collaborative assistance offered to each other and the project itself, and freely, graciously sharing your talents, your efforts, and your time. Without all of you choosing to join us on this adventure, the OWTE Fanzine would have no life by which it could breathe. Thank you contributors.
And lastly, I want to thank everyone else who has supported this project and shown interest in its completion. Making art for ourselves is a joy on its own, but there is something particularly sweet in knowing we will get to soon share our creations with all of you. Without the continued support of friends and the Outer Wilds fan community as a whole, I'm not sure how bright the spark of inspiration would have been to make the OWTE Fanzine shine. Thank you everyone.
It has been a long journey, but it is now finally nearing its end. Final Voyage is playing in full swing, and we are on our way to sharing together in one last song around a campfire.
We'll see you there soon.

[Image Description: A digital recreation of the Outer Wilds ship log screen with a single log opened in the center and its corresponding message box at the bottom of the screen. The log's denotation color is a bright orange reminiscent of the Outer Wilds title card and it is labeled "MikoWorks" with artwork provided by the named contributor centered in the log box. There is a sublog connected to the central log labeled "Artist" with an icon representing the contributor centered in the sublog box. In the top right corner of the screen is a pixel art recreation of the Outer Wilds Ventures logo with the words "Outer Wilds Travelers' Encore Fanzine" written below, and to the left and bottom are two logs currently obscured off-screen, the one on the left marked with the unread log icon and connected to the opened log by a lined arrow pointed towards the obscured log.
Text within the message box is written as follows:
"Tumblr: mikoworks
Youtube: MikosmithM
I'm an illustrator, storyboard artist, and musician. I create fanart and fanmusic of video games and movies I'm passionate about. I love contributing my work to fan communities because it allows me to share my interests with others."
Image Description of art within the log box: A hybrid pencil-pen drawing of the Traveller leaning against the cockpit of their ship. It is a rustic-looking spaceship with a large viewport, three legs, two tanks situated at the back, and two more tanks—along with a satellite dish—situated on top. One of its thrusters—resembling a cross with an extra booster in the middle—can also be seen on the side. The whole vehicle is mostly held together with rope and tape. The Traveller is drawn as a simplistic figure with dot eyes and a smile.
Image Description of art within the sublog box: A lined, blue-toned headshot of a smiling figure with long hair.

artist, writer, space enjoyer, notorious game-breaker, just vibing :] ran into outer wilds a while ago and utterly fell in love, and am excited to help make something for it!!"
Image Description of art within the log box: A painted sketch of the player character from Outer Wilds. They are a blue humanoid with four orange eyes, long pointy ears, and darker-blue scale patterns resembling freckles along the bridge of their nose, sides of their head and ears, and back of their neck. They're wearing an olive-brown shirt with visible stitching along the seams, as well as a bright smile. Behind them is a roughly painted shape of open space.
Image Description of art within the sublog box: A lined and coloured drawing of a figure with a floating blob of near-black ink for a head, droplets and ribbons drifting off it reminiscent of a lava lamp. They're wearing a burgundy hoodie and white shirt beneath, and have their elbow resting on the image's border. They wave at the viewer with a cheery expression. Behind them is a painted gradient of sunset colours -- yellow to orange to red to purple to blue.

Text within the message box is written as follows:
"Tumblr: publiccmenace
Unlike you, I am not alone in the wilds on this Friday night. Skye or Tarragon, it/its, here by virtue of being head over heels for Moon - it's an office romance but queerplatonic and socially distanced because we don't have an office. Designated Bee, Wasp, Snake, and Spider Remover. Secondhand Outer Wilds Enjoyer. Most essential member of the moderation team with four (4) total mod duties performed so far."
Transcript of text within the log box:
"So, yes, you think you understood the Strangers’ fear. You understood it because you lived it, over and over and over again, uncountable times, until the fear became surviving eternal rather than one day dying.
In short: you grew up. "
(And beneath the text there is a white silhouette of the ship.)
Image Description of art within the sublog box: A drawing of my fursona, a lion-like creature with fuzzy ears, antenna, and wings. It is colored different shades of brown, with black toe beans and eyelids. It is doing that sonic "Alone on a Friday night? God, you're pathetic." meme.

I’m Phoenix, an Oregon based illustration student. I hope someday to work in the video game or cartoon industry as a concept artist. For now, I spend my time worldbuilding, playing video games, and of course drawing. This is my first zine, and I’m glad to pay tribute to this game that means so much to me."
Image Description of art within the log box: An illustration of two characters from Outer Wilds. The Stranger Inhabitant is a tall, feathered alien with branching horns and an owl like face. The Hatchling is much smaller, with blue skin, pointed ears, and four yellow eyes. The inhabitant is lifting the Hatchling off of the ground. The Hatchling is visibly frightened and blinding the Inhabitant with their lantern. The stranger is holding the same type of lantern, which both shine a concentrated beam of teal light. They stand on the edge of a riverbank in a forested area. It’s night, and the stars are out.
Image Description of art within the sublog box: A cartoon portrait of TheNeonFennec smiling. The asexual and aromantic pride flag colors are represented in the background with swirls of paint.
