Oumota Week Day 6: Survival | Last wish

Interpreting it a little loosely, but "wish" always brings up Madoka for me. Expanding on the thing I implied in an old ask for this AU about who would witch out first.

Kaito tracks down a very erratic Kokichi and almost gets killed when he witches out right in front of him. His teammates, Maki and Shuichi, show up just in time to save him, but he pretends Kokichi died fighting the witch instead of telling them the truth. But trying to "spare" them backfires majorly since hiding that secret + the guilt of feeling like he should've been able to get to Kokichi sooner causes him to fall into despair and witch out in front of Maki and Shuichi in a similar way.

(Alternate route in the non-witch reboot universe: Kaito manages to save him by using his own soul gem like a grief seed, my favorite fanon trope)
