What counts as incest?

All works submitted must be around one or more romantic incestuous relationships. For the parameters of this fest, we allow any of the following to be considered incestuous…

Incestuous Relationships (Canonical or AU):

• Blood Relatives • By-Law Relatives • Step-Relatives • Adoptive Relatives • God-Relatives • Self-cest

2024 Rules Update: OCs are welcome! Be that an original relative that is paired with a canon (book series, films, and extended universe) character (i.e., Harry Potter/OC Adoptive Parent or Child) OR in terms of putting a name to a character who exists in canon, though we may not know their full name. (I.E. Mr Brown/Lavender Brown)

All romantic relationships must be established AFTER the characters have been officially named relatives in some fashion and are aware of this relationship. (I.E. NO previous Draco/Harry before James marries Lucius; NO Sirius/Harry until after Harry is aware he is his Godfather)

This fest welcomes all characters from the Harry Potter extended universe, including games/extended HP properties/Fantastic Beasts, etc)

👉 Please use our Claiming Form to submit your claims. You will also use this form to Self-prompt for Fic, Art, or Podfic.

👉 Each prompt will be allowed 1 claim in each medium - Fic and Art.

👉 Prompts are claimed on a first-come, first-served basis. If you do not confirm your prompt within 48 hours of receiving the confirmation email, the prompt will be released for reclaiming.

👉 Each participant will be allowed one active claim at a time. Before submitting a second+ claim form, please submit your first finished piece before claiming another prompt.

Prompt Claiming Guidelines

Please use the Claiming Form to submit your claims/self-prompts. The form will remain active from April 30th through June 23rd.

You can select any available prompt from 2023 or 2022!

Can't choose? Ask the mods to assign you a random prompt! (this can be done once per active claim - if you do not like your chosen prompt, it will be up to you to select one for yourself)

Prompts are claimed on a first-come, first-served basis, but proxy claims are allowed. Each participant will be allowed 1 active claim at a time. Before submitting a second claim form, please submit your first finished piece to the AO3 collection and wait for approval to claim another prompt.

Guess what, fam! The Cest Party is NOT over!!

What is HP Cest Mini-Fest?

Since we have over 150 prompts for HP Cest Fest left unfulfilled, we'd love to give you all the opportunity to create for them!

We have created the HP Cest Mini-Fest 2022 collection for anyone and everyone to create their own Cest works based on the remaining available 2022 prompts! It will be a self-posting event and non-anonymous, allowing you to upload your AO3 works on your own to the collection. You do not need to add the Mod AO3 account as co-creator.

Available unclaimed prompts can be found HERE! Please DO NOT use our prompts and post outside of the fest. Exception: your prompts are your own to do with what you wish within or outside of this fest.

Schedule

Your self-posted works may be uploaded to the above collection from November 1st - January 15th. They will be added to the collection when approved by a Mod.

Rules

Fanfiction, Art, and Podfic are allowed

Written works require a minimum of 500 words

Art can be anything from sketches to fully-rendered works

All Podfics require permission from the fic author - please link your podfic post to the original work as an "inspired work"

Self-prompting will NOT be allowed - we want to give love to all the prompts that already exist, and are confident you will find one you love!

You do NOT need to add HPCestFestMod AO3 account as co-creator

Please utilise Archive Warnings and Tag for potentially triggering content - create what you like, but we'd love you to supply the opportunity for readers to decide whether it is something up their alley or not!

Multi-chapter works may post chapter by chapter, as long as it is within the scheduled posting window and the fic is COMPLETE when the posting window closes (January 15th), or it may be removed from the collection. Exceptions may be made case by case.

Works may be as directly or loosely inspired by a prompt as you like!

You need not claim a prompt, just include the number and the prompt in your A/N.

Multiple people can create for the same prompt, as there is no claiming process.

Having a work beta-read is encouraged, but not required.

If you post to Tumblr, please tag @hpcestfest and include the #hp cest fest and #hp cest mini-fest 2022 tags

Your work can be included in other challenges as well! In fact, we highly encourage you to participate in Dead Dove December, and more information can be found at @hp-deaddovedecember

There will be no extensions for this fest. All remaining prompts will then be held for consideration in next year's fest. Exception: you are still the owner of your own prompts to do with what you wish outside of this fest!

Voluntary Anonymity

Just like in HP Cest Fest, if you wish to remain Anonymous, you may add your work to the HP Cest Fest Anonymous collection on AO3, which will keep your work Anonymous until you personally desire to remove it from the collection.

Claiming for Fic/Art: Please use THIS FORM to submit your claims. The form will remain active from July 9th through September 9th.

Prompts are claimed on a first-come, first-served basis, but proxy claims are allowed. Each participant will be allowed 1 active claim at a time. Before submitting a second claim form, please submit your first finished piece to the AO3 collection and wait for approval to claim another prompt.

Each prompt will be allowed 1 claim in each medium - Fic and Artwork.

If you intend to gift the fic/art to the prompter, please exclude any mentioned squicks. However, you are not required to gift your work to them or stay strictly within the prompt’s wishes.

Self-Prompting for Fic/Art: You can self-prompt on the claiming form HERE after the prompting period ends. Do not submit your self-prompt during the general prompting period or someone else might claim it. If you’re concerned about your self-prompt not meeting the criteria for the fest, please email the Mods at [email protected]

Podfic Self-Prompting: You must self-prompt for podfic claims using THIS FORM. Your selected work must meet the minimum word count of 500 words and the theme parameters of the fest. The podfic claiming form needs a link to the published fic, which is also required when posting to the AO3 collection under the “This work is…inspired by another work,” check box.

We will be using the honor system for permission, so please make sure the work you wish to record has a Blanket Statement for podfics or you’ve obtained permission from the author directly. Orphaned works are not eligible for this fest.

Despite being an anon fest, you are encouraged to include your fandom handle in the piece when it is recorded/uploaded to AO3. However, you do have the option to remain Anonymous/omit your fandom handle (see Voluntary Anonymity in Fest Guidelines). Cover art is not required but welcome and may include your fandom handle if you desire.
