I'm shit at it and only starting off but birding? Phenomenonal. It makes every outing more magical than it was before (because I already do whatever the bug version of birding is) and I need to get more into herping too, instead of just IDing the herps that happen to cross my path, and I intend to do just that soon (plus good for the bugs and bird hunting also!)
#gonna see if i can spy a rattlesnake or ANY snake soon since i know where there is some in good quantity and density#and ive got local birding lists#bugs. they just occur wherever so i just keep an eye out while snooping#osprey and caracara are on my list#and so is every raptor#including fucking IDing a hawk beyond its calls once i can NEVER get a good enough look at the TONS of hawks nearby#im always in the damn car when i see the things and theyre just FOOSH gone#i know theres red shouldered and red tailed hawks near the house however#i HEAR THEM#Noisy#also black widow one i wanna find#BUT ESPECIALLY FOCUSED ON CENTIPEDES THATS MY THING#and wasps bc :-) likey them.#basically the theme is can it harm me? cool i love it#dont worry abt the rattlers though im gonna be good n safe. ill bring bite resistant boots tm but also im not gonna be getting close anyways#just in case! there is also cottonmouths which are more of a concern but thats. theyre everywhere#im not more in danger at the state park I'll be visiting than the normal ass waterside park i frequent so. yknow#but still. got my good boots bc we aint stupid#i dont actually think ill see a rattler tbh. because i do not intend to stray off the path much if at all.#its mostly hoping ill spot one a few feet off#but like i said!#they're spotted frequently (and no one seems to get bit. but its hard to get bit by a rattler period#theyre quite polite.#maybe I'll find a bone while im out there#i like to collect them#if the park is okay with it which the one ive visited in the past was#if not maybe they can keep it and use it for educational stuff idk#ill ask before entering so i dont even move the bone if its a nono#which FAIR if they dont the other rangers admittedly i had befriended and shown off too so#they know my Brains wrt the law of collection and my ability to ID bones so they trusted me not to do stupid shit

Obito & Birds
ive decided to sit down and have a bit more serious thought on my thinking on obitos bird
first of all i want to address the other uchiha bird stuff:
itachi/shisui have a connection to crows (summons, one w/ shisuis eye)
sasuke has a connection to hawks (summons)
madara has a connection to falcons (data book lists falconry as a hobby)
the uchihs in general, especially mangekyo useres thro their susanoo have a connection to tengu which are crow creatures who are described as ‘originally thought to take the forms of birds of prey’
he is an uchiha at heart no matter his offbeat-ness at first, and i find he is especially more inline after his time with madara, so based off this i want to keep him on the uchiha theme by going with a bird of prey, but not a falcon or hawk which are already in use. crows are not birds of prey but they are known to lead people to them, as they tend to mob them.
the remaining birds of prey types are:
Eagles
Kites
Ospreys
Buzzards (commonly called hawks in north america)
Harriers
Vultures (commonly called buzzards in north america, theyre different)
Caracaras
Owls
i want to discount bald eagles bc while other eagles font hold much symbolism to me that one is very distinctly USA to me, also i got a comment that thought eagles in general where over used in symbolism, so in the name of narrowing things down i guess ill go ahead and throw them all out. in japan owls are connected to luck and good fortune, and obito isnt that lucky so i think i will cross those out. caracaras are often grouped with forest falcons, and are a bird from the americas so i want to remove them from the list too. vultures are notably  scavenging birds of prey, which could lend to symbolism. however, obito doesnt feel like a scavenger type of person to me, so im removing them too.
so what about the rest of the kites, ospreys, buzzards, and harriers? im going to look at the ones native to japan. i couldnt find any specific type of osprey, and they (often called seahawks) dont feel right anyway so we’ve got:
the crested honey buzzard
the black kite
the marsh harrier
the hen harrier
the pied harrier
the grey-faced buzzard
the upland buzzard
the rough-legged buzzard
the eastern buzzard
based off of keeping to uchiha symbolism with out being too similar, and avoiding things that have attached symbolism that doesnt fit, as well as picking from those native to japan which the shinobi world is based around, id choose one of these nine although im not going to attempt to figure out a specific one at this point
