For the writer meme: Pheonix and bridge
(TW for acrophobia.)

--
The first thing he did was to tell himself not to look down, lest he pass out at the spiraling depths below.
Or, at least, not to pass out at all.
Besides, the chasm wasn’t that deep, and the bridge was just a hop, skip and jump. It was sturdy, too, thanks to being made from steel rather than flimsy wood. There was no way their trip would end in disaster.
Trucy, Athena and Apollo had already gone way ahead of him (though Apollo was even less willing to cross and had to be carried across by Athena). Now, they stood at the other end of the bridge, waiting for Phoenix to make his move. They made crossing look incredibly easy.
So why was Phoenix suddenly going into panic mode, causing a blush of sickly green to bloom around his face?
He quickly shook himself out of his trance. Don’t think about it, Nick, he told himself. Just take it slow and steady. Remember all those times you’ve had to hear Apollo’s vocal training, or Athena’s eagerness to enter the courtroom. Everything’s gonna be fine.
Letting out a shaky breath, Phoenix began to walk slowly across the steel bridge. He knew that his subordinates and his daughter would be shouting words of encouragement, which allowed him to keep going.
But he was barely across when he suddenly froze like a deer in the headlights. The green blush from before returned as he found himself looking down. And this time, it looked as if he really was going to pass out.
Memories of that dreaded night flashed through his mind, with one particular moment standing out above the rest. He remembered the fire that surrounded him as he rushed across the burning Dusky Bridge, threatening to block his path and overtake him.
A sharp crack of wood was enough to send Phoenix hurtling down the chasm and all the way to Eagle River. As the water closed over his head, he thought he had seen the ghostly apparition of a woman who was all too familiar to him. The blaze of her red hair, her devilish smirk, the way her eyes glowed white and pupil-less...
The ghost who he thought was his girlfriend.
Dahlia Hawthorne!
“Da...y... ...ddy... Daddy...”
“Gah!” Phoenix was jolted from his memories as Trucy vigorously shook his arm. His heart was still racing, but Dahlia had disappeared, replaced by his concerned daughter.
“Daddy, are you okay?” Trucy asked again, her blue eyes wide with worry for her father.
Phoenix took a few deep breaths to calm himself down, realizing that he was still in the middle of the steel bridge. “Y-yeah,” he replied. “Just a little shaken up, is all.”
Trucy fidgeted with the backpack strap on her shoulder with one hand, and gently clutched Phoenix’s wrist with the other. “Do you want me to hold your hand?” she asked.
Phoenix let out a light chuckle. Trucy always knew what was best for her father, even if she didn’t inherit any of his genes. She was definitely growing up to be a brave and kind young woman.
“Sure,” he replied. Without saying anything more, he took Trucy’s hand in his and let her lead the rest of the way across the bridge where Apollo and Athena awaited. No matter what happened, this trip would definitely be one that he’d never forget.
