there’s a reason why billie left this town years ago and never looked back. it was just as she remembered it — cursed. known for its autumnal vibe all year round but especially on halloween. fall leaves touched the ground, the smell of cinnamon and apple cider stretching three blocks from the bookstore her family owned. frankly, billie didn’t know how long she’d be staying this time around. she arrived a week ago to help look after vienna after their mother went jet-setting across the world and couldn’t make it in time to re-open the shop for it’s busy fall season. there may’ve been more to billie’s arrival though, than simply helping her flesh and blood out, in need. she was running from an abusive ex, who thankfully, had no idea where she lived because she was too embarrassed and ashamed to tell anyone where she came from. knowing, they just wouldn’t understand...
“hello? did you read the sign, we’re not open yet———” tell that to the unlocked front door, billie. she could’ve sworn, she shut it behind her when she came in this morning. not seeing anyone in the store, billie closed the door back up and chalked the ringing bell up to the wind. that was until she heard footsteps approaching behind her. it was at that point, she grabbed a stapler ( because it’s all she had on hand ) off the cash register and whipped it around to .... what? staple the intruder’s eyes shut? “goodness gracious!” she yelped, taking in the gentleman who she almost whacked in the face. “the store’s closed. how the hell did you get in here?” better yet..... “who are you and what do you want?” oh, very hospitable billie. harlow would be so proud. harlow, being her mom. the owner of lost incense, a spiritual, hippie-like bookstore. the last to survive in their small, next to nothing small town.
