There were 13 deaths from COVID-19 in Nova Scotia last week, down from the 24 deaths the week before and that tied the highest number of deaths ever recorded in the province since the beginning of the pandemic. The 13 deaths were included in the latest weekly COVID data report released today by Nova Scotia Health. The data covered the seven-day period ending May 23rd, 2022. The report noted that age continues to be associated with the most “severe outcomes” and that “the risk of hospitalization is nearly 11 times higher for those aged 70 years and older compared to those 18 to 49 years old.” “The risk of death is approximately 111 times higher for those aged 70 years and older compared to those younger than 50.” As for COVID cases reported, the numbers dropped to 1584, down significantly from the 2513 confirmed cases reported a week earlier.
