Do you ever just think about invisible bed fence and wonder how they came up with it and why lol. They also came such a long way from how they were back then. They used to be really defensive when it came to physical contact(I only know from old videos) I love them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also I love how blushy Rhett is. He is bad at hiding it lol.

**********
You’d grown up in the city, in a neighborhood full of houses that all looked more or less the same on the outside. Both of your parents were well known in your town. Your dad was a successful lawyer and your mother was a housewife that was president of the PTA.
Your parents had always wanted the best for you.
They put you in dance classes when you were younger, but eventually let you venture out into sports. You kept straight A’s, getting ‘most likely to succeed’ in your yearbook ‘who’s who’ section both your freshman and senior year.
Once you graduated high school early, your parents bought you a car and by that fall you were off to college in some southern town that you had no idea existed.
Your mom and dad really wanted you to pursue law, but you nipped that in the bud.
“Mom, Dad, I don’t want to study law. That’s not something that interests me and I would be burnt out before I even started the car. I’m studying sports medicine, and if you have a problem with that, then that’s on you.”
They didn’t have a problem with that actually. If you studied medicine, that gave you a shot at finding a doctor to marry and settle down with. Or maybe you’d find a lawyer, either way it worked.
So, when you came home holding the hand of Rhett Floyd Abbott -a bull rider from rural Wyoming, a country boy on all fronts- they were a little surprised.
**********
You had met Rhett after you graduated and moved to Wabang for work.
One of your friends had told you about a school in ‘a small ass town’ in a ‘tiny ass county’ needing a physician/team doctor. His mother had told him when she came home from a convention.
But without that ‘small ass town’, you would have never met Rhett Abbott and you wouldn’t have been happier to be out of California.
********
You actually had met Perry first, he saw you at a bar and thought you were being stood up. When in reality you were celebrating your new job.
That sparked a friendship with the older Abbott boy and then he introduced you to Rhett when Rhett tagged along to help you unload your moving truck. Which sparked a friendship between the two of you.
A few weeks after you moved in, your golden retriever, Chica, had gotten out through a hole in your backyard fence. Luckily, Rhett had seen her on his way home and picked her up. He came by and dropped her off.
When he asked how she got out, you told him and he didn’t hesitate to offer his assistance. He made a temporary fix for the day and then came back the next morning with supplies.
Rhett completely replaced your fence, taking down the old, rusted chain-link and replacing it with t-post and grid-fence panels.
You wanted to pay him back.
“How can I repay you?” “You don’t have to-” “Rhett, you came up here and gave me a whole new fence. I can’t just not pay you back.” “Okay, then let me take you out on a date.”
And the rest is history.
********
Now here you were, nearly a year later and you were head over heels in love with Rhett. And he was head over boots for you.
You were still the school’s team doctor, but you had also become Rhett’s medical personnel on his bull-riding team. You were the only one Rhett trusted when it came to medical advice at an event.
Currently you were in the middle of Rhett’s truck, singing your lungs out to the Charlie Daniels song playing from the radio. Rhett was laughing and singing along with you.
Then your phone rang.
Rhett turned the music down when you answered it. “Dr. Knight?” … “When is it?” … “Um okay, yeah. Let me talk to him and see what he thinks and I’ll get back to you.” You hung up and faced Rhett a little more.
Keeping an eye on the road, he gave you his attention, “What’s up Doc?” You rolled your eyes, but grinned at the phrase he picked up. “My graduating class is having a reunion at the end of May. Would you want to go?”
Rhett paused, thinking of how to respond, “Do you wan’ me to go?” You frown, confused, “Of course I want you to go, Rhett. I wanna show off my strong cowboy. But if you don’t want to go, we don’t have to.” He smiled at you, “Sure, why not, let’s go.” You grinned and opened your phone, sending a quick text to whomever you had been on the phone with.
“Oh my gosh, Rhett turn it up!” You shouted when the familiar sound of Lynyrd Skynyrd met your ears.
He just smiled fondly at you and turned it up.
*********
You sat in your parents driveway squeezing Rhett’s hand. “Hey, if you’re nervous, we can come back later. We got ourselves an AirBnB for a reason. You don’t have to meet them today.” “Darlin’, I’m not nervous, I’m just-” You arched an eyebrow at him. “Okay, maybe I’m a little nervous.”
You leaned toward him, “Can you tell me why you’re nervous?” He held eye contact with you for a second before chuckling shyly and looking at his calloused hands. “I know I don’t bring much to the table.” “Rhett-” “Let me finish,” he said gently, closing his eyes for a second.
“I know I don’t bring much to the table,” he started over. “I’m not a doctor or a lawyer, or some CEO. I’m a bull rider that’s a lot more trouble than he’s worth.” He looked up at you, “I already know I’m not good enough for you. And that's all they’re gonna see. I just don’t want you to see it too.”
You grabbed his hand, the calluses on it rough against your palm. “Rhett Floyd Abbott. You don’t give yourself enough credit. You are perfect for me. I don’t care what you do, all I care about is who you are.”
He let out a self-deprecating chuckle, “Well, I’m not that good of a man.” “Rhett, I’ve been with you for a year now. You are that good of a man.”
You brought a hand up to his face, nails scratching at the stubble there, “I know my worth, Rhett. And you have given me nothing but what I deserve and then some. I’ve never met a man like you, and I don’t think I’ll ever meet anyone like you again.”
With his free hand, Rhett quickly tilted the brim of his ball cap up and captured your lips in a kiss.
Your lips moved together and Rhett’s free hand pushed the hair out of your face, deepening the kiss at the same time.
When you pulled apart, you nudged his nose with yours, “I don’t care what they think about you. They’ll just have to get over it. Because you make me happy, and that’s all that matters. I love you, Casanova.” He grinned, “I love you too, Doc.”
Rhett got out and jogged over to your side to open your door.
You walked up to the front door and rang the bell.
A few minutes later, your mom answers the door.
She gasps and hugs you, “Oh, Y/N! Sweetie, come in come in!” You grabbed Rhett’s hand again and pulled in behind you.
You followed your mom to the living room, where your dad was sitting and watching some show.
“Who’s this handsome young man?” Your mom asked as she sat next to your dad.
Smiling, you put your arm around Rhett’s waist, his hand automatically falling to your hip. “Mom, Dad, this is Rhett, my boyfriend. Rhett, this is my mom, Lily, and my dad, Tom.”
Rhett shook your parents' hands, “It’s a pleasure to meet you both.” “It’s a pleasure to meet you as well, Rhett,” your dad smiled at him and you and Rhett sat down.
Your dad paused the TV and turned to talk to you both. “So, Rhett, Y/N has never mentioned what you do for a living.” You tense a little bit. You just knew Rhett was gonna take that the wrong way; but it wasn’t like you did it on purpose, they never asked. “What do you do?”
Your boyfriend glanced down at you before looking back at your parents. “My family owns a ranch, so I work there and then I’m a bull-rider.” Your mother’s eyes widened and you were certain the color drained from her face.
But your dad didn’t give the same reaction as your mom. “That’s interesting, you’ll have to tell me more about that later,” your dad unpaused the TV and went back to watching the show.
Rhett turned to you, “Is there a place we can talk?” You gulped, nerves working their way up your throat. “Uh, yeah, we can talk in the kitchen.” He got up first and held his hand out for you to take.
You knew he was upset, and once you were standing, you tried to drop Rhett’s hand and he let you. Yup, he was upset.
You led him to the kitchen and you leaned back on the counter, crossing your arms and keeping your eyes glued to his boots.
“Does what I do embarrass you?” You met his eyes, “No, Rhett.” “Then why did you never tell your parents what I do?” “They never asked, so I didn’t say anything.” He just nodded and wiped his mouth. “Rhett, look, I’m sorry. I should have told them. Because I’m not embarrassed, I love that you’re so passionate about what you do. Do I think it’s dangerous? Yeah, but guess what, I would never ask you to quit.”
You stepped forward and grabbed his hands, and he looked up at you. “Rhett, you could be a rodeo clown and I’d still love you. I’m not with you because of your job, I’m with you because you make me happy. You’re my sweet, sweet country boy and I wouldn’t trade you for the world.” You saw the blush through the tan skin on his face.
“We cool?” You asked, a hint of humor in your tone. He hummed and pecked your lips, “We’re cool.” You smiled and laced your fingers with his to go back to the living room.
******
After sitting and talking with your parents, you all ate dinner.
“Dinner was great Mrs. Knight, thank you,” Rhett said when he finished. “Thank you, Rhett.” He grabbed your plate and his plate and put them in the sink. “Oh, Y/N and I will get the dishes, Rhett,” you mom told him. “Oh, I don’t mind.”
Your dad cleared his throat, “Actually, Rhett, I was going to ask if you could help me with something in the garage?”
Rhett glanced at you and you shrugged, but you stood up and waved him on to follow your dad.
They went out the door in the kitchen that led to the connected garage.
Your dad leaned against the car and crossed his arms over his chest. Rhett took in his body language. “You didn’t need my help with anythin’ did you?” Your dad shook his head, “No, I wanted to talk to you.”
Rhett felt a pang in his chest. Okay, this is it, get ready to defend yourself, Abbott.
“I think it goes without saying that Lily and I were hoping our daughter would end up with a doctor or a lawyer.” Rhett nodded, you had told him that when you first got together. “But I learned a long time ago that Y/N is her own person, and that she knows what she wants.”
Rhett’s brow creased in confusion, but he let your dad continue. “You’re a good man, Rhett. A lot better than the past partners Y/N’s had.” Pride swelled in Rhett’s chest. “Thank you, sir.”
You dad grinned, “You wanna know how I know?” He leaned back on the hood of his car. “You’re the only one she’s brought home. And I can see it in her eyes, and in yours, that you make each other happy. That’s all I could ever ask of you.”
******
Meanwhile, you and your mother were having a very different conversation.
“So, you’re dating a bull rider?” You nodded, rinsing off a plate, “Yup.” You sat it on the drying rack.
“Are there not any doctors in Wyoming?” You stop for a second, “Well of course there are, but they’re not my type.” “And a boy that rides bulls and works on a farm is your type? Forgive me, but I don’t believe that.”
You turned to your mom, “First, he’s a man and he works on a ranch. Second, why is that so hard to believe?” “Well, you’ve always dated med students, nursing students, and you dated that one pre-law student.”
You scoffed and shook your head, “Those relationships lasted all of a few months. I’ve been with Rhett for a year. He’s it for me.”
Your mom sighed, “No he isn’t. He’s not good enough for you. You need someone that can provide for you.” “Rhett does provide for me!” You felt tears sting the back of your eyes as your mother confirmed what Rhett was worried about in the car.
“Not in the way a man with a better paying job can.” “Is that all you care about? Money? Is that the only way someone can provide? Because let me tell you something, mother, Rhett has provided me with more than I ever could have asked for.”
Your mom crossed her arms and arched her brow, “Really? What could he possibly bring to the table?” “He brings everything to the table. He brings me peace, love, security, happiness, and himself; because that’s all I’ve ever needed. He’s it for me and nothing you say will change that.”
She tongued her bottom lip, “You’re so different from what we wanted you to be. You could have been a lawyer, or brain surgeon, or some CEO; but no, you’re goddamn sports physician in a town that’s the size of our neighborhood.”
Tears sprung to your eyes as your mom started just laying it on.
“I thought you were proud of me…”
“Yes, but you could have been so much more. My friends love hearing my daughter is a doctor. But what are they going to think when I tell them she’s with a fucking bull-rider that works on his family’s ranch!?” She threw her towel down and put her hands on her hips.
Your jaw dropped and you scoffed. “Is that all my life is to you? A fucking award? Something to brag about to your screwdriver sipping, bleach blonde bitch squad?” A tear slipped down your cheek.
“Well you can only brag about one thing for so long.”
It felt like all the air was punched out of your lungs.
“You were supposed to be everything I couldn’t be.”
That flipped a switch and you stood up straight. “I’m not some vessel for you act out your fucking fantasies. I’m sorry that you thought I was, but it wasn’t my fault you dropped out because you got pregnant with Josh. But you children aren’t playthings that you can make do whatever you want.”
The door to the garage opened and both your father and Rhett came into the kitchen.
Rhett met your eyes and could see the tears in them, but by the way your fists were clenched and shaking and the redness on your face – he knew they weren’t falling anytime soon.
“What’s going on in here?” You mom opened her mouth to speak, but you cut her off, “Oh, nothing, just your wife telling her daughter she’s a fucking disappointment!”
Rhett’s eyes widened and he stepped towards you, ready to come to your defense.
“You’re not a disappointment, Y/N,” your dad said before turning to your mom. “Lily, why would you say that?” “Because, Tom, from the moment you let her play sports she’s done nothing but-”
“She’s her own person Lilian! How do you not understand that? I never had a life plan for her other than to be happy!”
“Thomas, she’s a physician in a small town and dating someone that can’t give her what she deserves! He’s just a good-for-nothing-”
“Shut the fuck up.” “Excuse me?”
You stepped towards your mom and Rhett’s eyes widened as he tried to reach for you, but you evaded his grasp. He was honestly afraid you were about to swing at your mother.
“You heard me. Don’t ever talk about Rhett like that. Say whatever the hell you want to about me but you keep his name out of your mouth. I told you already that Rhett is more than I deserve, you just don’t believe it because you’re stuck on some idea that just because he isn’t some rich man sitting stacks of money means that he can’t provide.”
You huffed a breath out your nose, “I’d never thought I would say this, but coming home was a mistake.” You grabbed Rhett’s hand and drug him out of the house.
Your dad clenched his jaw and cut his eyes at your mom, “We’ll talk about this later.”
He ran through the house, calling for you and Rhett to wait.
“Dad, look, I’m sorry-” “Don’t be, sweetheart, please don’t be sorry. I just want you to know that I’ve always been proud of you.” You let out a shaking breath and Rhett squeezed your hand. “Thank you, Dad. But we can’t be here…” He nodded, “I understand. What your mother said… it was uncalled for.” You gave him a hug and Rhett shook his hand. “I love you, Dad.” “I love you too, Sweetheart.
Rhett opened your car door and buckled you in before going to his side and driving away.
*******
You were quiet the entire way to the AirBnB, but Rhett kept his hand on your thigh.
He knew you were trying not to break down, but you had zoned out long before you got to the small bungalow. He could see the tears you had no idea escaped.
When he parked, you didn’t move and he went around to your side.
He opened the door and squatted down to unbuckle you. “Darlin’?” He placed his hand on your knee, his thumb rubbing back and forth on the inside of your thigh. “Hey, Sweetheart, look at me,” he gently turned your head.
That pulled you back, and he gave you a small smile, but you could see the concern.
You shook your head, “I’m okay, Rhett.” “No, Doll, you’re not. Don’t pretend you are.” He used his knuckle to wipe your tears away. You broke down then and there, and he pulled you into his lap while sitting in the driveway.
*****
After you calmed down enough, Rhett took you inside and you both curled up on the bed.
“I don’t know why it hurts so much. People are proud of me, genuinely proud of me… But one person says otherwise and I break down.” He played with the waistband of your sleep-shorts, “It’s okay for it to hurt. But that one person is selfish, they don’t deserve to celebrate your accomplishments with you. Those people are jealous of you and wish they could do half the things you do.”
He pulled you on top of him and kissed your forehead, “You, Doc, are the best person I’ve ever met. You’re headstrong, loyal, and can ride a mean mechanical bull.” You buried your face in his chest and laughed, “Oh, Lord.” “I’m serious!” He laughed with you.
Your laughter died down and now you were just looking each other in the eye.
“I love you, Doc,” he kissed your nose. You kissed his lips, “And I love you, Cowboy.”
***********

For some reason I had never listened to the high school ear biscuits episode and I am sobbing over this like they are just so truly in love with each other? Like platonically, romantically, whatEVER it is so obvious!!!! They chose each other so easily, almost subconsciously, over and over and being with each other forever was literally the default? To them it was always guaranteed? Like bitch I’m cryingggggg.
I also didn’t realize that the blood oath happened so late? Like they were around 16 years old making that kind of verbal commitment to each other? And having deep conversations about their futures together???
Link saying “I had this deeply rooted feeling, maybe even an attachment to our friendship” and talking about how the blood oath was validating for him because it made it “official” that Rhett prioritized him over everything and everyone else and then Rhett at the end saying that “There was something special between the two of us that eclipsed any other connection we had with other people” …
Like y’all…. My heart literally can’t take this 😭

thinking a thought right now.
was (UNFORTUNATELY) raised in the white Evangelical christian church & was told for many years that love is slow to anger.
my love is SO quick to anger. I realize that there are teachings of righteous anger and whatnot but I tell you, to love the people around me in the ways that matter deeply to me in the world that we live in, I have experienced periods of being furious for a majority of the hours in a day, for the majority of days in a week, and sometimes even for most weeks in a month.
I somewhere, somehow (CANNOT currently remember where) someone talking about how most of the pacifists they know, anyone who dreams of a world without war/conflict- aren’t actually the mellow, “peaceful”, chill people that pacifists are sometimes painted as.
rather, they look at the world around them and are so heartbroken and absolutely furious at how far from ideal it all is. people die preventable deaths, every single day, in a country where such things SHOULD be incredibly rare (how does the “most advanced/prosperous/other buzzwords that the US of A tout, country in the world lose millions to suicide? to car accidents? to LACK OF HOUSING, lack of food, lack of healthcare? delayed access to healthcare, or having gone without for so long that PREVENTABLE DISEASES are no longer preventable, or the symptoms are now inevitable and more severe?)
ties into another aspect that I’m repeating from Rhett and Link- during the podcast episode where they detailed their deconstruction of the church/religion in their lives, I think it was Rhett that mentioned something along the lines of a sense of justice. That the Christian church is seeing an enormous exodus (pun intended) of people, especially young people- and though this means the church has failed, at least in retaining its members, he points out another important aspect.
The Christian Church operates on an unyielding, ever-present, righteous set of rules, and everything can be measured against those rules to make judgements and take actions in the world around you.
AND THE YOUNG PEOPLE THAT WERE RAISED IN CHURCH HAVE INCREDIBLY STRONG SENSES OF JUSTICE (AT LEAST IN MY EXPERIENCE). We’ve already had to stand firm in beliefs that were typically not those of other peers, and were praised for going against the grain when it’s due to something you believe in firmly- something that gives your life more meaning, that grounds you in community.
so with all that context, is it REALLY surprising that young ex-evangelicals are queer, neurodivergent, and/or anti-capitalist? <- all of these being forms of existence that REQUIRE a difference from the status quo, both in mentality and frequently in what actions people take.
To exist in the christian church in the ways I was told were necessary, so many aspects of life are different from your peers. especially growing up there. EVERY Sunday morning was spent at church. A whole 3-4 hours of my weekend, gone. & then there’s youth groups during weeknights…
Notably, a former youth pastor (SIDEBAR: a more appropriate name could be: child indoctrinater, young enough to be relatable but DEFINITELY old enough to know better) of mine literally sent me a letter in my sophomore or so year of high school and guilt tripped the shit out of me to try to get me to go to youth group more consistently (I was heavily involved in swimming and water polo & attended practice at least every afternoon/evening, sometimes multiple per day) and told me that water polo shouldn’t be more important to me than god, etc. etc.
WILD to say these things to a high schooler whose most valuable and truly independent time away from their parents was during these practices. Jesus christ. I’m so glad I didn’t let that talk me out of being a massive jock. Could talk about this for legit days but it’s bedtime.

ao3 link ! last chapter ! next chapter
Drinks are being passed around, your hands growing sore from pouring various bottles and grabbing cups in the mini-bar in the pool deck area. Avalon and Gisele help you by passing out the drinks to everyone, while Asher stays back because of his body’s inability to process alcohol. He eagerly takes a mocktail from you, though. In the back of your mind, you remember the day you'd found out about your brother's alcohol intolerance. He'd gotten extremely sick on his twenty-first. Though the both of you had been going drink-to-drink all night, you assumed he had too much.
Then he started to have severe chest pains, you could feel his quick heavy heartbeat against his shirt and see it in his throat, he was pale, flushed, and clammy all at the same time. Too ad onto that, for a few minutes he couldn't breathe or see properly, and then he passed out slumped on your then seventeen-year-old shoulder.
Yeah. It had been an interesting night.
Asher looks across the yard, murmuring something to his boyfriend-- Robyn, as he stares at Bob. Robyn hummed, smacking Asher's shoulder as he whispered, "It's been a decade, Ash. Maybe he's changed."
Asher gave an unimpressed shrug and you huffed, fishing a bottle of Tito's out from your mother's hands as you whipped around and tried to ignore your siblings. Even if you owed them an explanation, you weren't sure how ready you were to give one. To distract yourself, you quickly mix up a drink for Bob, Tito’s Lemonade. Something you'd noticed was his favorite. Dodging a stare from Gisele, you walk over and hand the cup to Bob, the Tito's still in hand.
"You make the best drinks," He smiles, a hand coming up to hold your arm as he says it.
"And you're already tipsy." You hum, tilting the bottle to top off his drink a bit more as a joke.
Bob goes to open his mouth, the words, "On you" leaving before PHoenix wolf whistles and you hear Fanboy snort, watching as Molly sticks her tongue out to Phoenix (who does it back) before speaking.
“Little Robert’s drinking alcohol!” Phoenix grins from where she lounges with her drink. She lifts her sunglasses and squints as if trying to get a better look from her spot only a few feet away from Bob and Fanboy.
Rooster, who's next to her, laughs along, a small smile as he speaks, “for real?”
“He’s always had alcohol?” You muse as you hand the Tito's to Avalon, so she can bring the bottle to your mom. The sliding door squeaks as Penny slips out, pushing Maverick and grinning at him when he sends her a look of 'what the fuck was that for?' Penny comes over to where you're standing, her hand balancing a bowl against her hip.
"He never takes anything to drink when he's at The Hard Deck." She hums and Bob huffs out a small laugh, adjusting his glasses as he looks up at you before casting his gaze slowly across the yard until he settles back on your frame. Molly curls against his side, her head resting on his shoulder as she happily accepts a drink from Avalon, a virgin martini in a small travel mug.
"I drank too much in high school." Bob laments, his accent coming out a bit thicker with the alcohol in his chest, "My mom found out the day I left for Bootcamp and her Hennessy was empty. She made me promise to stop drinking, so I did... at least until I turned twenty-one and it was legal to do. It's just a weird habit for me now to not drink anything. God, I swear working out more made me into a lightweight."
"You were al-co-mol-hall-tic," Molly says, thinking she's being matter-of-fact, but when the pilots start to giggle her face falls until Bob tells her the right pronunciation and she groans as she hides her face and kicks her foot out to splash Fanboy.
"Molly!" Genevieve whines from where your mother sits with her on a raft by Sarah and Ice, who sit on the edge of the pool next to Carole and Goose, MAverick joining them with a few different cups of various drinks he hands out.
"What, Gen?" Molly perks up.
"No roughhousing before dinner," Genevieve huffs, and in a perfect replica of her mother's voice she shouts, "It's bad for your digestion!"
"My digestion is too strong." Molly declares, crossing her arms, and Bob takes a chance to hand you his cup before he moves forward with Molly in one arm and she shrieks as he manages to grab her by the waist and chuck her up, sending her splashing the older adults on the other side of the pool.
"That was cruel!" Carole laughs, watching as Molly lights up.
"Again!" She screams, and Genevieve's sliding off the raft she's on, declaring it should be her turn instead. You hear the sliding door open, and glance over to see Jenny exiting the doorway with stacks of plates and such in her hands.
"Dinner's ready, guys! Hamburgers, chicken, hot dogs... and roasted veggies! We also have a bunch of chips and such!" Tom calls from where he's standing by the grill, and slowly people begin to make their way out of the pool. Bob gets one more throw of each kid in, Goose declaring he was gonna swim over and knock him out, which Maverick said was a terrible idea. As you walk back over to the bar, your mother catches your gaze and waves you over.
"I'm worried about your siblings and Rob." she whispers once you're in earshot, "Asher and Gisele are really mad at him, hon. Any reason why?"
"The last time I talked to them about Bob was right after he'd left for boot camp." You sigh, crossing your arms, "So they kinda hate him for me."
"But you don't hate him anymore?"
"Yeah, but the twins and Asher don't know we had a sort of heart-to-heart." You look over at your brother, watching as he kind of purposefully walks the long way through your yard so he doesn't have to be near Bob. Your chest tightens, blood boiling your skin in something akin to protectiveness.
"Okay. Let me know if I need to talk to sense into any of 'em." Your mom smiles, squeezing your arm, before leaving to go get food. Now that no one else is around, you make yourself a drink and tell yourself to keep calm and try your hardest to not want to kill everyone in your general vicinity. The alcohol will take the edge off, or so you hope.
"Hey," Halo's head pops around the little fence separating the bar from the rest of the pool area, and you glance up as you finish off adding some margarita mix to your tequila, scotch, whiskey, and basically every type of alcohol possible. It wasn't a coping mechanism, you swore to yourself, except it definitely was.
"Do you have any vegetarian stuff?" she asks and you hum, setting the Don Julio bottle back in its holder as you grab your drink and make your way over to where she anxiously rocks from foot to foot in her flip-flops and full body neon green bathing suit. It made her look super tan.
"Avalon doesn't eat red meat, so we might have some Beyond Burgers? Those plant-based ones?" You say, guiding her over to your house and letting her inside, "How long have you been vegetarian?"
"Since I was... nineteen? I got that red meat allergy from Lymes, so I just decided to become vegetarian because I had always wanted to. I would be vegan, but considering food in the Navy is limited I'd have to wait a long time before I could do that." She explains as you both enter the kitchen. Halo pauses by the table while you walk to the freezer and pop it open.
"Do you guys do those... what are they called, oh! MRE's! Do you guys have vegetarian ones?" You ask as you bend down and begin rummaging through various boxes and other assorted items. Your mom must've driven to Publix or Kroger because your local mom-and-pop grocer didn't have all of this stuff.
"Some are vegetarian-ish. But, not many that I've seen have been fully vegetarian. Maybe I missed 'em." She chuckles and then claps when you stand up with a box of plant-based burgers in hand.
"I'll have Tom throw these on the grill for you," You smile, and Halo nods.
"Thanks, and tell him I say thanks too! Isn't he Bob's dad?" Halo asks as you rip two out of the box and toss the box back in the freezer. As you hip bump it closed and carry the burgers in their plastic over to the backyard, you look back.
"Bob's stepdad." You muse and she nods, before quickly slipping out of the door and calling over to Tom with a grin. You look across the yard, eyes bouncing from group to group as they eat. Eventually, your eyes settle on Avalon and Gisele, who sit across from Aspen and Robyn. The look you're given by your brother makes you realize that, at some point, you'd have to have this conversation with them anyway.
Tom sets a plate Jenny made up for you in your hands and ushers you over, that all-knowing look in his eyes. It was something the majority of the adults in your life shared, an insane amount of observance.
You end up settling between Avalon and Robyn, knowing the two had purposefully left a seat open in that spot so they could act as buffers for you against your siblings. You secretly appreciate the sentiment.
"So." Aspen starts, "What's with Rob?"
You sigh, "Straight for it, huh?"
"We wanna know," Gisele sighs, "You're all over him, practically."
"That's a bit dramatic." Robyn hums, shoving fries in his mouth, Gisele sends a glare at him. You scoff, grabbing your drink and taking a long swig as you try to keep your face steeled against the strength of the alcohol in it. You probably should've made a normal martini instead.
"Well, he came back a couple of days ago. I was pissed he was here because I thought I hated him. I was mad at him for the shit he pulled before leaving for Bootcamp, as anyone would be. We got stuck in a storm and had an argument that led to us both being in tears, so I think we kinda worked it out." You explain, "I've spent time catching him up on things, and he's opened his heart to me about things he's gone through and such. We clicked back together and suddenly it's like... I dunno, I can breathe right again. He fits like a missing puzzle piece in this family and I knew that there was no way for me to completely avoid him... no matter how much I wanted to. And I'm glad I gave him a second chance."
Avalon pats your back twice, giving you a soft smile as she looks across the table at Aspen, "I'm glad you both could stop being mad at each other. You hadn't been the same after Rob left for camp, always so snippy and angry. It faded a bit when you went to college and made more friends there, but now I feel like you're finally coming back to us fully."
"Yeah," Gisele nods, "I agree with Av. Seeing you mix up drinks, laughing with the pilots... that wouldn't have happened eight years ago."
"That wouldn't have happened last year," Aspen butts in after taking a swig of his bet, "I'm just weary about you jumping back into a relationship."
"Especially after Mike," Gisele mumbles, a hand coming up to block the chips she's shoveled into her mouth. Robyn hums in agreeance, washing down his burger with what you think is just a normal soda. Next to you, Avalon nods as she folds her hands under her chin. Darting your eyes away from her, you watch across the table as Aspen pushes his salad around before he meets your eyes and speaks.
"Yeah, especially because Mike's back. Chris told me he got a job in Myrtle as a contractor. He's living in a hotel there when he has to work, and coming back home when he's off for more than a few days. Y/n, there's a high chance Mike will be at the party."
"Who cares?" You huff out a laugh, trying to ignore the gnawing feeling in your gut or the way you suddenly feel a chill in the air, "If he even comes within ten feet of this party, someone is gonna knock him on his ass."
"And that's not what I meant about Mike," Gisele sighs as she picks up her drink and swirls it, a nervous happy you remember her doing since she was young, "You know how hard it was with Mike when he was away. He was only a few hours away, at most, and you could always call him or text him if you missed him. With Robby, you’re not gonna know what he's doing half the time when he’s days, even weeks, away from you. The Navy may only allot him like ten minutes to call, and that would be generous. You might have to stick to just emails. Y/n, I don't want to see your heart broken again.”
You look over to the pilots, watching as Hangman's blindfolded in front of the dartboard. Jenny is betting something while Tom shakes his head, and you can tell Hangman's gloating by the way Phoenix playfully shoves him to disorient him and Fanboy and Payback try to convince your mom to not make a bet on whatever's about to happen. Bob's watching, arms crossed over his bare chest as he leans over to your mom with some sort of explanation and she laughs.
"You've got the lovesick look, honey," Robyn hums, squeezing your shoulder, "Asher's told me he's afraid you'll be hurt, just like the rest of your siblings. But also, I know that they'd want you to be happy no matter what."
"Maybe wait a bit," Avalon hums, "That's what I had to do with Hannah. Now she's working towards being an admiral. We're praying that she'll get a station to stay at before we get married."
"Maybe." You hum internalizing what your siblings (plus Robyn) had said. It was all true. Mike was an asshole, and you'd been hurt by him for months (even before the split), and even if you knew you probably should wait for this relationship it was so exciting to feel like you were in love again. You felt every rushing emotion from high school throwing itself in your chest again, and when you look over again after sliding your plate away, it's no surprise to see Bob watching you.
What you would give to let yourself just fall into his arms. But it was too late, you'd promised you wouldn't go there. Now, you knew if you fell you'd never get back up. And that was absolutely terrifying. But you steel your heart, lock it up and throw away the key, so you can stand and walk over to his giddy smile as Hangman (after being spun around) narrowly misses a bullseye.
"That near bullseye was bullshit." Maverick announces and the pilots laugh, and you gaze across the yard to see your sisters, escorting Amelia around. The three girls are currently talking to Halo, Omaha, Harvard, Yale, and Payback at a table near the darts. Next to them sits Ice and Goose, who watch as Sarah and Carole attempt cornhole. Your mom and Jenny watch from the other team, throwing out tips, while Tom carries stuff inside with help from your siblings.
You glance back over when Maverick slaps a ten-dollar bill in Hangman's hand and cuffs his shoulder with a headshake as he makes his way over to where Penny sits off to the side with Phoenix, Coyote, and Fanboy. And when Hangman offers for someone else to play while he goes back in the pool, Bob meets your eyes.
"No." You immediately say and the party, or those who heard, start to laugh.
"Come on!" Bob shouts, wrapping an arm around your waist as he pulls you into his chest. You squeal, laughing as you fall against him and he smiles into the skin on your neck. He smells like pine and cinnamon, it makes you want to kiss him even more.
"One game, for me?" he begs, giving you puppy dog eyes that make you sigh dramatically before you nod.
"One game of darts." You declare and he cheers, untangling his arm from your waist to grab your hand and pull you over with him.
An hour, and maybe five games of darts and two drinks later, you find yourself settled in the pool. Bob had left to show most people where they'd be sleeping for the next few days, and now you sat with Phoenix, Fanboy, and Coyote in the pool as most everyone else had gone inside. It was super late now, nearing midnight, and though you knew you should be heading to bed since you had to be up at four, you couldn't find it in yourself to feel tired.
"So." Phoenix kicks her raft off the side of the pool and you look over as she drifts towards where you float aimlessly in your floaty.
"Hm?" You look over from where Coyote was showing you pictures of his baby cousin on his phone, his legs kicking idly in the water as he sat on the ledge next to Fanboy's raft.
"Bob?" She says and you give her a look, so she continues, "You have to have a crush on him or something."
"Oh please say you do, I've never seen him look at someone like that, not even Talia." Fanboy awes and you give an odd look.
"Who's Talia?" You ask and Coyote kicks Fanboy's raft, sending him drifting to the other side of the pool.
"No one important, she's his ex." Coyote quickly covers, but the way he stares over at Fanboy tells you something different. With a soft splash, Fanboy quickly dips into the water and then out of the pool. That alone tells you there's a lot more to the story.
"Talia," Phoenix hooks her leg onto the pole of the steps, just like you were doing, so she could stay near the conversation, "is a fucking bitch. It's not our place to tell what went down between them but if you need to know anything, just know that when Bob got hurt she didn't even ask anyone if he was okay. Never, not once."
You think back to the look in Bob's eyes when you'd told him about Mike, and note not only the protective look in it but the way he'd also seemed upset. You'd assumed it was a side effect of the anger, but maybe it was something else entirely.
"He doesn't talk about her. I think he kinda forced himself to forget her after the accident, but that's not important." Coyote waves a hand, "Why won't you make a move on Robby there?"
"For one, it's none of your business, but this stays between us. I'm worried that if I do those things, open my heart to him, and be vulnerable like that... something will happen. He'll get hurt or something. Being a pilot, even a WSO, is dangerous. I don't know if I'm able to be so open like that again." You sigh gently, tapping your feet along the edge of the pool, "He was my best friend for years, I can't lose him. It's selfish but I can't. Especially if we become more."
"Being in love with Navy is hard." Phoenix sighs, "but you and Rob have something special, I can see it. I'm not gonna push you towards him, hoping you'll fall in love but I don't know if It'll be as bad as you think it will be."
"I might just wait." You announce, eyes staring up to the stars. After maybe another half hour of pointless talking, Coyote announces he's off to bed, and you decide to get out too. Before you can fully leave though, Phoenix stops you, and what she says stays in your head for the rest of the night.
"I promise you, he loves you. It won't be a mistake."

James & The Shame Is A Human Overboard With Nothing Left To Love: A Review
Country music is synonymous with few different topics of conversation, but the context of which it’s discussed depends on the style of country music. If you’re listening to mainstream country, you’ll probably hear a ton of songs about Jesus, God, and praising Christianity, which is all fine and dandy, because people have the right to practice any faith they choose (even if they don’t practice one at all). The thing is, if you dig deeper into alt-country, folk, and indie country, you’ll find a lot of artists that criticize organized religion and examine its role in society and how harmful religion can be. One artist that does this is Rhett McLaughlin, but you may know him as one half of the YouTube duo Rhett and Link, as well as Good Mythical Morning. A couple of years ago, McLaughlin announced a country project that he calls James And The Shame. James is McLaughlin’s middle name and he said that “and the shame” comes from the shame his middle name gives him when thinking about his time as a devout Christian.
So far he’s only put out a couple of projects, which include his 2022 debut Human Overboard, and the 2023 EP Nothing Left To Love. I wanted to talk about both of these together, because they’re both relatively similar, yet you can also hear some growth from the album to the EP. Regardless, both of these records are wonderful, and absolutely worth your time. If there’s one aspect about James And The Shame that I love, it’s that you can listen to this without any context at all without knowing who Rhett is. This isn’t your average “YouTuber music,” and this is music that can stand up on its own, especially if you enjoy country.
McLaughlin’s sound is also incredibly interesting, opting for an old school country sound but still mixing some modern folk-pop into the mix for good measure. Human Overboard keeps the old school country sound, whereas Nothing Left To Love has a more Americana and singer-songwriter feel to it. There’s less twang on that EP in the instrumentation, although McLaughlin’s voice still has a Southern accent to it. It seems like he’s playing with other sounds and influences on Nothing Left To Love, but Human Overboard isn’t one note, both in terms of the instrumentation and the lyricism. The latter is what James And The Shame focuses on, and that’s one of McLaughlin’s strengths of many.
Before I talk about the lyrics, I wanted to talk about the overall sound some more, especially McLaughlin’s voice. His sound is very warm, inviting, and familiar, and his voice is the same way. He has such a good voice, I was blown away the first time I listened through these albums. Everything about these records is just so good, but it’s clear the focus is on the lyrics and what he’s saying. That’s a good thing because he has a lot to say. The lyrics are where these albums truly shine, and a lot of this record is about two things — his deconstruction and his family / friends. The EP expands his lyricism a little bit more, but it stays in the same wheelhouse.
If you’re a deeply religious person, let alone somehow that doesn’t want their beliefs challenged, this isn’t for you. McLaughlin doesn’t say anything negative about Christians as people, but he does criticize certain things that Christians do, such as “In Vain,” where he poses the hypocrisy of Christians not liking when people use God’s name in vain, yet they’ll use God as an excuse for why their football team won, or how their politicians got into office. It’s a double standard, isn’t it? The album is full of songs like that, especially about him growing and realizing that Christianity is not full of love and joy that he thought it once was.

saw the smosh ask game but I think I would rather ask. uh. what is the appeal of smosh to you? what makes it special?
oh heck that's a real good question! Long answer ahead.
for me... I started watching Smosh about 11 years ago (possibly 12? for some reason I thought it was like 9 or 10 but it was longer than that), in middle school. A friend of mine was having a sleepover, and one of the other girls was like "oh this is really funny, you gotta watch this YouTube video" ... and I cannot for the life of me remember what video it was. It might have been "Firetruck", or one of the "If [Blank] Were Real" videos. But I thought it was absolutely the funniest thing ever, and we watched several Smosh videos (including Charlie the Drunk Guinea Pig), as well as a couple of other YouTubers who I first got introduced to at that sleepover... like Joey Graceffa, Daniel Howell, Phil Lester, Connor Franta, Troye Sivan, and Tyler Oakley (all of whom I still follow). I went home and, for the very first time, made myself my own YouTube account so I could subscribe to them.
Now, in sixth grade - before all of this - I had my very first major depressive episode. So by the time I started watching these YouTubers, I had already had several depressive episodes. I also had my first major (singular, not ongoing/complex) traumatic event that I could vividly understand in eighth grade. So I was having a real rough time.
I watched a lot of YouTube videos on my own just to distract myself from my own brain and from everything else going on, starting in seventh grade when I had saved up for my very own iPod touch. I watched a lot of stand-up comedy - most of which was not actually appropriate for a 13-year-old - but I also watched a shitton of YouTubers like Smosh, particularly stuff on the second channel, back when it was just "IanH" and a bunch of "Ian is Bored" or "Lunchtime with Smosh" videos (I was replied to on Twitter a couple times during this period and I absolutely lost my mind lol).
Once I hit high school, most of my friends were not into Smosh - they were more into Dan and Phil, Tyler, Joey, etc - but I was still real into them... in high school, I sent them fan art and a letter, and Sohinki opened it ON CAMERA in one of his Mailtime with Sohinki videos (#2, around the 11:40 mark, I was at school when I saw it and literally screeched in the English hallway and started crying, my friends were like "WTF??"). I never got a response to the questions in my letter but I ain't even mad.
So now that I have established how long and how deep my love for Smosh runs... it's time to establish the current vibe.
I never really stopped watching Smosh. I never unsubscribed or stopped following them or anything like that. But Anthony left the same month I graduated high school, and I had already been kinda rizzed by my "friends" (at the time) for still liking Smosh, because they viewed Smosh as being something that kids were into or something like that. So I had kinda been falling out of watching them very much. And it genuinely made me feel sad and left out that I stopped doing something that brought me so much joy, but I kinda just wanted to fit in I suppose. But when Anthony left, I cried. I didn't know what to do. I felt like I had been already losing something that made me happy, and then it was breaking apart and becoming something I didn't remember it being. I don't feel that way about that era anymore, but I remember thinking that at the time.
I got back into Smosh for the most part shortly before Defy shutdown, and then I vividly remember being excited about the tour video of the new office and excited about Rhett and Link buying Smosh. I was part of a Smosh fan Discord group (the SmoshCord, as it is dubbed), and I wrote fanfiction in 2019 (that's still up on my AO3), and I was very into it again. And I felt happy about it.
And then I found out that my now-ex partner liked Smosh, and we watched videos together sometimes, but they are really pessimistic and nitpicky and stuff much of the time, and they don't like certain cast members, and blah blah blah... so sometimes it was really hard to watch the videos with them, and some videos they just refused to watch... they would even criticize the old videos, when I would go back and watch old Game Bang videos or something. I got anxious about it, and I was kinda pulling back for a while, and I left the SmoshCord. I said it was because Discord chats were really overwhelming me for a while and I got anxious, and while that's partly true, it was partially because watching Smosh was making me feel guilty and anxious. I can be a very vulnerable and impressionable person sometimes, and my ex's opinions on certain things were starting to wear me out and weigh me down, but I didn't know how to get them to stop, and I didn't want to talk to people in the SmoshCord about it because I didn't know how to do that either. So I just left. And I didn't watch a lot of Smosh. Or Daniel Howell and Phil Lester. Or really any of the ones that used to bring me joy.
A little while ago, I started getting back into them again. I started by just rewatching old videos by myself again, and then I sometimes watched new videos, but often about a week after they came out. And this became true for many of the YouTubers I used to enjoy, but particularly for Smosh. I kinda missed the start of Angela and Amanda and Arasha and Chase and the other new folks, for the most part, and even Jackie and Tommy, and didn't really know who they were for a while (they did all grow on me rather quickly!)... and then I remember vividly watching that one Arasha deception video a little while ago and it was absolutely one of the funniest new videos I'd ever seen, and that's when I realized I still really loved Smosh, and it still meant a lot to me. Sure, there can definitely be some missed jokes or even entire videos that miss the mark. And I won't ever pretend to be a superfan or anything, and some of the videos or even entire series are not really my cup of tea (potentially unpopular opinion but I don't particularly like Let's Do This lol), but I am really getting back into it, and I am so psyched for all of this to become as important to me now as it used to be, but in a different way. My partner and I split near the end of May, which marked a new chapter for me, and the return of Anthony coming in June meant a new chapter for Smosh too.
...sorry for the rambly answer. Probably way longer than what you intended to get. TL;DR it's a nostalgia thing that has evolved into a genuine, more mature (not mature as in stuck-up and stuffy, obviously) enjoyment of a fun thing that has been fun for a long time in different stages of my life.

Meet the teacher
Happy Birthday (Belated) @too-old-for-this-mix
I finally sat down to write this that spawned from a convo we had and I said I had to write it. It was going to be a small little thing but turned into something longer.
Also thanks to @mythicalamity for bouncing ideas off each other
Tumblr media
Collum said Rhett looks like a yoga teacher who got dressed up to go to his kids parent teacher meeting.
It was Rhett’s turn to go to Charlotte's parent teacher meeting this year. That is what he and his ex agreed upon. He knew he had to at least look presentable except most of his wardrobe was for teaching his yoga classes. There were a few sporadic button downs and jeans. He grabbed a blue printed button down, jeans and some slip ons.
Once at the school, Rhett quickly found his daughter’s classroom. Inside sitting at the head desk was a man close in height and age with salt and pepper hair. The man seemed to be grading papers.
Rhett hesitated,”Oh excuse me. Am I in the right room?”
The man chuckled behind his glasses,”That depends, would your child be in this class?”
Rhett got a good look at his face being drawn in by the blue eyes before he answered “I’m Rhett McLaughlin, Charlotte’s dad. What happened to Mrs. Ellis?”
“She’ll be out for a bit for some surgery and recovery. Nice to meet you Mr. McLaughlin. I’m Link Neal.” Standing up to shake Rhett’s hand.
“Nice to meet you too. Link huh?”
“Lincoln is my middle name but I’m the third in the line of Charles the third.”
“Oh gotcha. Anyway, how's Charlotte in class?”
“She’s a delight. She is so kind and bright. Here’s her latest vocab test.” Link hands over the test. Rhett looked at it proudly, she only missed one which was Wednesday but who wouldn’t that’s a tough one. The meeting continued casually, the two really hitting it off.
“I should be headed out. It was nice meeting you.”
“You too. Goodnight.”
Everyone’s lives mostly went back to normal, routines repeated again. It was almost the end of the day on Wednesday. Link has been in most of a haze since he met Rhett. He really enjoyed their connection. He kept trying to come up with an idea to ask for a date but he didn’t really like any of them. Lost in his thoughts, he didn’t realize one of his students was standing at the desk.
“Mr. Neal? Here’s my worksheet.” Charlotte said placing the paper on the table, as she turned to walk away Link was struck with an idea. He quickly scribbled something on some kind of form but not for it’s intended use.
“Hey Charlotte, can you give this to your dad to sign and return to me?” Handing her the paper the bell rang signaling the end of the day. The students shuffled out.
Rhett was waiting to pick up Charlotte from school. It was one of her visit nights. She got into the car.
“Hi Daddy!”
“Hi Kiddo! How was school?”
“It was good.” The two head home.
Rhett makes dinner and helps with homework. The two watch a movie before it’s time for bed. He makes sure she packs up her school bag. As they are doing that, she stops and pulls out a folded paper.
“Mr. Link wanted me to give you this to sign and give back to him, Daddy?”
“Oh yea, I’ll look it over in a bit and make sure it’s in your bag?” Rhett takes the paper, placing it in his pocket for later. Once Charlotte is set for bed, Rhett does the same. He remembers the paper in his pocket. The note read:
“I didn’t know how to get in touch with you without it being weird.  I shot down all my ideas. I really felt a connection with you. I hope we can go out some time!  Here’s my number.”
Rhett is a bit miffed that Link would use his own child for his own personal gains but actually really admires the bold move. He goes to grab his phone to message Link.
R: “Nice stunt you pulled, sending a note with my daughter.”
L: “Oh I’m sorry. I really didn’t mean for it to be awkward. You can get rid of it. I’m really sorry.”
R: “No no, I really admire the bold move you took. I’d love to go out with you! I think we really have something.”
L: “I’d like that.”
The two continued chatting until they both had to force themselves to go to sleep. Rhett wrote his own note back to Link putting it into Charlotte’s backpack.
Days passed with two of them sending flirty messages and planning their date that upcoming Sunday. Before Rhett knew it, date night arrived. He was getting ready but unsure what to wear.
“Daddy, what are you doing?” Charlotte asked.
“Hi honey, I’m going on a date tonight and I don't know what to wear.”
“You're so cute! Let me help!” She ran towards the closet glancing at his wardrobe. Rhett sat on his bed watching her browse. He loved watching her get in a zone. After a few choices she chose his outfit. It was pretty similar to what he originally met Link in.
“There you go, wear this. And if they don’t like it, direct them to me.”
“Of course. Thank you for helping me.” He scooped her up in a hug.
Rhett and Link met at a local coffee shop.
“Hey there.” Rhett said.
“Hey yourself.” Link said. The two went in to order drinks and desserts. They found a nice little corner to spend time together.
“It’s almost like deja vu. You're wearing something similar to when we first met.”
“Heh yea, my wardrobe is kinda limited. Charlotte helped me pick out my outfit. She said if my date didn’t like it, they could answer to her.” Rhett replied.
Link laughed, “She doesn’t have to worry because I do like it.” The conversation flowed naturally between the two of them until the shop was just about to close.
“Hey Rhett, I think they’re trying to close up shop. That may be a cue to end at least this date.”
Rhett looked around at the pretty empty shop. “I’d love to go on more dates with you.”

If Rhett & Link want to change their content, they should just do it and stop whining about it. They could devote 1-2 days at the end of each week to the new content. Views from content people are used to can sustain it until the audience for whatever they want to make actually grow. They can't expect all of their current viewers to just switch over to it, they have to wait for a new audience.
Plus I hate when they talk about making mature content when it just seems to mean childish body humor, sex, curse words, and old school jokes that should've died in the early 90s.

Rhett and Wes, best buds headcannons (Best Buddy OC)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These two......Rhett Abbott and Wes Redwood, wreaked soooooo much havoc on Wabang growing up
Oh they were as tight as two brothers from another mother could possibly be
They had a little elementary school gang that was made up of all the miscreant ranch and reservation kids
Their little gang was hated by every cranky church lady in town
And oh the stupid shit that ensued
The kids would all ride their bikes through the cemetery and try to avoid the headstones
They even played their own version of leapfrog by jumping the paddock fences. Wes’s brother, Jack, got his jeans caught in the chain links of a fence once and almost got whiplash
The minute Rhett called out “Brain Damage” on the bus to school one day and proceeded to whack Wes on the back of the head with his math book, everyone knew they were screwed. Billy Tillerson was the unfortunate victim of both Rhett and Wes one day
But they quickly took Billy under their wings after seeing what jackasses he had for brothers
Wes’s older sister and a few of her fellow middle schoolers were a part of the gang
She even taught’em how to dance to all her old school hip-hop and rap mixtapes
Rhett and Wes got their hands on a bunch of cassette tapes and a radio and played with it for HOURS
By the time they were done they had one hell of a collection
When they got to be teenagers? God help us all
Them and the gang managed somehow to find even worse ways to beat the shit out of each other
Take for instance, “American Gladiators with ATV helmets, trash can lids and a stick”
They were the champions of backyard wipeout
Rhett and Wes even had the gall to raid his uncle’s beer and liquor stash for a party being held out in the woods
Oh did they pay for it later.......
They drank so much that Wes’s uncle, Charlie, made them share the toilet in the downstairs bathroom of the house
“Did you two morons learn a lesson?”
“No”
“Then put those heads back in that crapper.....”
Years later they had many a good laugh
But remained best buds regardless

The way Rhett did NOT HAVE TO PHRASE IT THAT WAY.
Tumblr media
Oh I bet you would ;) (I also can’t whenever they feed each other ;-;)
Tumblr media
...so during a timed activity, rather than waiting for a break, rather than just TELLING Link that he has some cornstarch still on him, you reach over to clean it off with a cotton swab. YUP. JUST TOTALLY NORMAL BEHAVIOR HERE ON GMM.
Tumblr media
The physical positioning, the wording, what looks like old school product placement but probably isn’t.
Tumblr media
More of people talking to Link like he is baby (because he is baby), but also this was really sweet. ;-;
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
YOU were the one to blow the air in his face in the first place though?!?! And then when Link reacts in a way that’s...what, too ~*sensual*~ for YouTube?
Tumblr media
The actual “Dirty Missionary”
Tumblr media
Probably just odd timing on my screenshotting but Link looks so fraught here for some reason lol
Tumblr media
NOT CLOTHES SHARING HELP?!?!
Tumblr media
Why was Link rubbing the balloon against his Neaples so frantically here?!?!
Tumblr media
This was borderline GME territory tbh.
Tumblr media
Talking to Link like he is baby moment number 1,538,859 because Link is baby.

9 People You'd Like to Know Better!
@dougiejack thank you for the tag!!!
Last song: Ave Cesaria, Stromae. Stromae is probably the only French-singing (he's Belgian) artist I listen to on at least a semi-regular basis. I really need to listen to his new album. And also finally check out more than like two songs from AnnenMayKantereit. They're a German rock-type band that I really only know from the national test that my German school had us take every year. They recycled questions a lot; the AMK video was used at least three years in a row with the same questions being asked from it LMAO. It did give me the song Oft Gefragt, though. Absolute banger. I need to listen to that album (Allex Nix Konkretes). And the new ones too.
Currently watching: My long-term attention span is AWFUL. I can't watch through an entire television series anymore. Most of what the family currently watches on YouTube are Good Mythical Morning (my dad found out Rhett and Link exist like a month ago and now it's everyone's problem), some Canada's Worst Driver (though we only got halfway through Season 12, then moved to Season 14 and only got halfway through that too), and my new favorite The Proper People (urbex!!! Really love urbex, may or may not be lightly planning out an urbex AU rn hahaha). Oh, and Food Wars from Insider Eats. Always a classic. (And Dan's Kitchen Gadgets from Epicurious! Awesome series!)
Currently reading: I'm trying to read The Invisible Hook by Peter Leeson as research for the @devils-pirate-crew sideblog/fanfic/askblog thing I've started! Yes, I'm gonna mention it incessantly because I need external motivation to work on it and also if you haven't seen it yet go check it out please!!! But also, on a more serious note, the book combines economics - a longstanding interest of mine - with piracy, so I'm super excited to see how the argument for the economic foundation of piracy is developed. That makes me sound like an old man. I'm not that old, I promise. I just sound old.
Current obsession: I mean, hockey? It's really getting up there right now in terms of how I'm slowly getting sucked further and further into hockey fandom and spending a ton of time on it. Besides that, uh... I'm working on re-sorting my quarter collection? (This does not help me beat the "secretly an old man" rumors, does it?)
+9: @barclaygoodrow @captain-hischier @forsakenpotato @hischieri @kmercer @lemondropbois @nicojackl0v3r @thg02 @zaynsbehen :D (you don't have to do this at all if you already have or don't want to but, y'know, if you want?)
if I didn't tag you it's probably because either a) I know you've been tagged already or b) you intimidate me too much haha 💜

FootJoy x Todd Snyder "The Back Tees Collection"
Tumblr media
How would the most iconic players in golf history dress if they stepped onto the links today? The answer is the Todd Snyder x FootJoy Collection.
Titled “The Back Tees”, the collection was inspired by the golf fashion of old-school greats on and off the course. The styles borrow from the traditional codes of American menswear and place them in performance technical fabrics.
For this collaboration, Todd and the FootJoy team set out to create contemporary interpretations of 60s and 70s golf style. The team emphasized refined fabrics--including pique polos, mercerized sweaters and cotton/cashmere sweatshirts--then reinterpreted these iconic athletic styles in a thoroughly modern way. The collection features apparel in blacks, blues, olives and as well as geometric and jacquard prints, and two new premium pebble-grain leather golf shoes based on FootJoy’s Wilcox and Field Premiere Series models.
“I am so excited to be working with FootJoy again to create a collection worthy of the pro tees, we’ve taken some of our favorite design details from the golden age of golf–including the luster of mercerised cotton sweater polos and the brogueing on a bespoke golf shoe–and combined them with state-of-the-art technology and modern style.” says Snyder. “Because one thing that I’ve learned in my years on the links is that you can’t always be the best player in your foursome, but if you’re wearingnour collection you can certainly be the most stylish.”
Since their debut collection in spring 2021, the duo’s partnership has filled a gap in the marketplace and has proven itself to be a strong customer acquisition and retention strategy.
“We have seen consistent 50% year- over-year sales growth since our first launch in 2021, demonstrating the strength of our partnership with FootJoy. Our elevated menswear-inspired take on the sport continues to resonate with our existing customers and especially new customers.” says Alejandro Rhett, Chief Product Officer of Todd Snyder. “People discovering Todd Snyder for the first time through golf have proven to be a valuable long-term customer, returning back to convert through our mainline collections again.”
The FootJoy and Todd Snyder Collection drops May 18th, 2023 @ 10AM ET. The collection will be available at ToddSnyder.com, FootJoy.com and select Todd Snyder retail locations.
