Ok so you know how people play songs on New Year’s eve and time it perfectly so that the beat drops at exactly 12 AM? It’s currently 2023 in my timezone, and I did that with ‘Ok Overture’ KJDFSHGD

The strike at 12 AM was perfectly (or not so perfectly) timed with the part where it goes  “But I’m not dead yet, so I’ll guess I’ll be alright”.

I chose that song, not only because AJR’s overtures are some of my favorite pieces of music that I’ve listened to this year, but because I feel like it really encapsulates how I felt during the last few months of 2022 leading up to now. I won’t go into detail, but 2022 was a very challenging but also very happy year.

Compared to last year, I was in a much worse headspace, but now I’m happy to say that I’ve improved from that in at least some way. Granted, I haven’t achieved all my goals yet and there were times when it got really bad, but I’m grateful that I wasn’t where I used to be (somehow someway).

I started listening more to AJR a month or so ago, and ‘Way Less Sad’ really describes this whole situation. Jack’s speech during the OK Orchestra Tour really hit hard with me as well.

I’m super thankful for how music in general has helped me through this year. So many things - not just music - have helped me to get to where I am now. And going into 2023, these are words that I’m ready to live by.

I think I’ll be alright.
