How was Dimitri and Nicole's first meeting? Do they try to get along because they have to or did they build a friendship?

let’s say that the story about their first meeting is quite weird — as in they met a lot of times but he was either stoned or under drugs so… however, it’s kind of implied in the official meeting that they know who the other person is. they don’t get along well from the beginning, but they seem pretty keen on trying to build a friendship based on mutual respect and integrity of morals. it’s implied that after three years of partnership, barton considers him like family. anyway:

first time he’s 25 and marked as the guy who has most unsolved cases. all the other agents are wondering what the hell is he doing at shield since he doesn’t really seem cut for the job once you put aside he’s got muscles and knows how to fire guns. for some reason fury doesn’t give up, and assigns him the job to arrest hawkeye. now, fury knows who’s under the mask, but also knows that his namesake is breaking havoc a little too much lately. he writes it as arrest, tho his idea is more of giving her some discipline her uncle and aunts forgot to when training her, give her a bedge and a gun and send her on some mission in europe — kinda like how he did with her father after all. so he reluctantly goes after this hawkeye chick who pretty much parkours her way up and down brooklyn with a bow and a katana and he can barely keep up with her. when he does reach her ( she’s on a rooftop threatening some adidas dressed dude, she’s picking at his shirt collar with an hand and holding a gun towards his pants with the other, a somewhat tick russian accent coming through words he’d understand if only was sober enough ) she gives him a long glance, and he gets she doesn’t seem impressed to have audience around, so she ends up hitting the guy she’s threatening with the gun and fully turns to face him. needless to say, dimitri has no idea if to think she’s impressive or batshit crazy.he doesn’t think twice about stating he’s there on behalf of shield, so when she pulls the hood down and he can finally see her face, he’s kind of struck, you know. she’s not a child but is quite clear she’s not even an adult, so he kind of stays there looking at her like an idiot because he has no idea what to do, but sure as hell he’s not going to arrest a teen. he ends up making a different call by telling her she’s got five minutes vantage to get the hell out of his sight. when he comes back to the hq with no girl in sight, he tells fury that he’s not gonna play dumb soldier and that if he wants people to arrest kids then he’s crazy. fury listens to his rant, a small smirk on his face as he writes down something in his notes. ( kozlov is the first agent in a while who doesn’t come back all bruised and battered after meeting barton’s kid )

second time fury assigns him again for a job involving a redhead girl on the run, making her way through berlin with a katana. he ends up traveling around the globe to get this freaking chick all dressed in black and whose hood is covering her face. she yells something in english between an explosion and another, and screams with all the power of her lungs when something explodes terribly close to a man who’s aiming an arrow towards another redhead. when he signs he’s ok, a group of people just leaves as fast as they can, and so does she, hood dropped down so that he can finally see who she is — and again he’s just there, looking down at her, yelling to stop or he will shoot her. as she turns to face him, teary eyes and a tired expression, she looks at him curiously, probably recalling where has seen him. it’s a move or be moved situation, and he ends up opening the airport emergy exit door after she tells him that if he’d have family highly involved in the bad outcome of the accords he’d fight on the wrong side of the law as well. six months later she appears on the news, as blonde as ever, icy green eyes looking straight into the camera as she declares herself an ally to whoever is fighting for mutants and inhanced people‘s rights.

third time she’s the one assigned by fury to catch him. dimitri’s quickly spiraling into one hell of a shitshow, getting in trouble with fisk’s men and generally being the shittiest agent ever. fury cleans his ledger and puts him somewhere where his in depht hidden sensitivity might be more useful. so he’s standing in armor hq, a box full of stuff and a rather blank desk — and then she appears, short hair dyed brown, gaze wandering around the open space, maybe looking for known faces —- and suddenly she stops, icy green eyes staring at him almost as they could see into his soul. he doesn’t say anything.“agent kozlov?”“yeah.”she stays silent for a while, maybe lost in thought. “rad. from now on we’re going to work together. fury’s orders”he’s pissed as hell about it, confronts fury about it… and ends leaving with his sign on the “strike team delta 2.0″ file.
