wouldn’t it be funny if Yuusaku actually wasn’t a pure uwu baby bastard and was just as much of a spiritual bastard as Ogata was? like we know the dude was likely pretty narcissistic and egocentric- “just as long as I can lead men to slaughter the enemy for me and don’t get my hands dirty I’m not culpable in war atrocities uwu”- and even goes off of superstition to keep himself pure, rather than just relying on remaining ideologically pure... And let’s not forget, the flagbearer was a prestigious rank!! He was probably the most looked up to son of a bitch around new recruits. 

And that’s not even getting into the “elder brother uwu” bullshit. Like listen, I’m sure anyone will vouch for me- I do not agree with Ogata Hyakunosuke on anything, and hold him as culpable in all his heinous actions. But at the same time, if some random jackass I’ve only just met started to try and foist his weird novel fantasy of “long lost siblings, REUNITED through the bonds of familial piety and nationalism, teaching each other love and COMPASSION” I’d wanna shoot someone too. 

Like just because someone is your blood relative... does not mean that you are entitled.... to being in their lives... and does not mean that they get to automatically gain your love either. That holds true whether or not that long lost sibling is an emotionally stunted bastard.

Plus, you have to keep in mind... we only ever hear about Yuusaku from Ogata’s POV. It’s very likely that Yuusaku was trying to put up some kind of act, if not because he sensed that Ogata was being weird and trying to corrupt him, then because he wanted to be seen as something that Ogata might want and made himself up to be like that so that he could get the big brother he always wanted. Because, honestly... do we really know how much of Ogata Yuusaku understood? In all honesty, it’s just as likely that Yuusaku was projecting his fantasy of a big brother onto Ogata, inadvertently trying to pressure him into the role, as it is that Yuusaku somehow saw through Ogata’s shit.

Also I wanna see more of Yuusaku dissociating the exact same way Ogata does. I wanna see him be a little brat or conniving, or manipulative “for the greater good”. The saintly Yuusaku headcanon is nice and all, but also, it’s free real estate

Oh, also because you never know what’s going on inside his head… simply beautiful… I hope Sugimoto kills him one day hahaha (don’t get me wrong its because I love Sugimoto almost as much and I want him to achieve his goals
