In the spirit of maintaining my k-drama watching credentials (I joke, somewhat), after a lot of dithering, I hit press-play on Chimera. It is engrossing and I am on the third episode and a few things I wanted to note.
Just three episodes in and already the drama is setting up some feeling type of things I'm like, is this an OCN drama, setting up sometime of romance subplots in plots full of violence and angst and genticles being all police-y and brash, and asdfghjkl, you guys it was an OCN drama!!!!! And in true OCN spirit, one of the lovelines died before it even had a chance to bloom lmaoooo. Okay, maybe not lmao - but also, you get what I am saying right? ( Where are my Possessed peeps? Ya'll will know exactly what I am talking about!)
The drama is simply thrumming with nervous energy. I do not know if it is an intentional action choice or a plot choice, or a random byproduct but there's so much frenetic, jittery energy. Like the one where you cannot stand to be in your own skin. It suits the mood of the drama though. Skin-picking, shaky knees, jumbled dreams, general twitchyness, all very evocative of tension.
Park Hae Soo is very charming. Like v.v.v.v charming. He's very fluid and physical on screen - if that makes sense even - and therefore its nice to watch him.

currently watching ocn chimera, it's not bad and i definitely want to get to the end of it but at the same time i have ISSUES with certain things as in:
the mum's storyline being unnecessary and so forced, when will kdrama writers realize that not all characters have to be involved in the main storyline especially when it's a crime thriller. you mean to tell me that out of nowhere the detective's mum is involved in the case that casually his son is trying to solve, besides it being unrealistic (which we can forgive bc dramas don't have to be realistic) it's just annoying and superfluous. instead of this i would have liked more screentime and an active and participative role for the journalist!! the only thing she did as far as i've watched was give a couple of leads to the male lead and that's it, she doesn't have much to do otherwise
female lead's trauma is .... err idk. again it feels unnecessary for the build up, her personality doesn't add much to the storyline per se which makes me go. why. again i would like to request to kdrama writers to build their characters a bit more than that, a past trauma is not enough nor it should be all that there is to a character
i absolutely love the doctor's character, he's my favourite so far and i'm loving his scenes w the male lead. also i want more bromance !!!
this is not a negative thing but why does the actor playing the chief of the investigative team remind me so much of cho seung woo, i literally can't unsee it ??? even their voices are similar ???

the many instances of Cha Jae Hwan falling deeply in love with enemy-to-acquaintance-to-friend, the good doctor, Jerome Lee Joong Yeop Edwards. - 2/∞ aka that time Jerome thought Jae Hwan was tryna fight when he was just tryna wipe some paint off his suit :(

Saaye Ye Mere Hain Tujh Mein Samaaye  - Chapter 5 - Final
Fandom: Chimera (Korean Drama)
Ship: eventual Cha Jae Hwan/Lee Joong Yeop
Rating: M for Mature
Story Synopsis: Two years after Seo Hyun Tae's murder and the Korean National Police Agency's failure to capture his killer, the TH-5 scandal once again surges in popularity across international newspapers after illegal sales of Evergreen are recorded in the US and UK. With Seoryun executives now on trial for cross-border crimes, Jerome Edwards and his team of British experts are asked to speak on behalf of the Korean Prosecution Service against Seoryun. Tasked with protecting Lee Joong Yeop's life until the trial date, Cha Jae Hwan wrestles with feelings of despair and reckons with his own declining mental health as Lee Joong Yeop reenters his life after two years of radio silence. Along the way, he enlists Eugene Hathaway's help in protecting the older man, just as ghosts of their shared past start to crawl out of the shadows. [post-canon, eventual Cha Jae Hwan/Lee Joong Yeop, platonic Cha Jae Hwan & Eugene Hathaway]
Chapter Synopsis: Cha Jae Hwan is in love with Lee Joong Yeop.
Warnings: References to Depression, Identity Issues, Mental Health Issues, Suicide Attempt, Canon-typical Violence, Angst with a Happy Ending
And that's a wrap! I originally wrote 20k over the weekend, but somewhere along the way, revisions and extensions turned it into this roughly 30k behemoth. Hope y'all enjoyed my corny version of Chimera season two, where the old queers get their happy ending. (~˘▾˘)~
Thanks again for reading! If you gotta moment, leave a review! This is my last published fic for 2021. See y’all in 2022! :D

Cha Jae Hwan is suffering full on omg. Right from episode 1, man is getting his butt kicked, either metaphorically or literally. People don't make sense, work is a mess, personal life is mess, emotions are a mess, he's all about his heart on a sleeve, but the people he's interested/fascinated/somewhat repulsed by are all like my heart is an underground bunker, which is undersea, and he's like for fuck's sake, pls, people use your words!!!!
It's genuinely hilarious to see Park Hae Soo's face go through all the emotions before he settles on suprised pikachu.jpg who's also looking like he chewed glass and is on the verge of getting a anxiety ulcer.

CURRENTLY WATCHING: December.

KOREAN.
+ The Red Sleeve (2021)(11/12-) ~ Airing. ★★★★☆
I am so enjoying Lee Junho's newest drama. It's wonderful to have him on the small screen again. Very happy with the fan service and eye candy this last week ^^
+ The King's Affection (2021)(10/24-) ~ Airing. ★★★☆☆
This drama had such a strong start, but as it continues to air, it has lost some of its focus. It often feels uneven in tone and a bit all over the place. I have the hardest time keeping track of all political players in this drama. This drama has too many people in the supporting cast.
+ Chimera (2021)(10/31-) ~ Airing. ★★★★☆
Loving that OCN's return to the small screen is proving to be such a strong and worthwhile drama. It delivers on everything that I would expect from an OCN drama: a dark, gritty plot, morally ambiguous characters, fire and brimstone.
The big reveal at the end of ep 10 was CRAZY!!!!!
+ Jirisan (2021)(10/24-) ~ Airing. ★★★☆☆
To be called tvN's "15th Anniversary Drama," Jirisan leaves considerable opportunity on the table. I keep on holding out that the story will have a good payoff since there is a promise of a grade-A cast, a noteworthy production team & a hefty budget to deliver on that Kdrama polish. Yet I can't help but feel how uneven this drama is in tone and how often the editing choices do little for the overarching story, especially for a complex multi-timeline drama like this one. I will continue to keep at it, but my hope for a top-notch drama is dwindling.
+ Inspector Koo (2021)(11/4-) ~ Airing. ★★★☆☆
I am loving how stylized Inspector Koo is. This is proving to be such a smart and fun drama to watch. I am always looking for a well-written drama centered around a strong female cast. Dramaland needs more of these !
+ Melancholia (2021)(11/10-) ~ Airing. ★★★☆☆
At this point, I am unsure where this drama will go. I am not really particularly drawn to school corruption and over-ambitious parents with too much money, yet this week I have to say the pacing was better. I will stick it out for a few more episodes before I make my decision on it.
I have found that I've liked this drama more now we are in the present day. I do sometimes struggle with dramas centered around high schoolers.
+ One Ordinary Day (2021)(11/28-) ~ Airing. ★★★★☆
In its first week, I am quite impressed with One Ordinary Day. I am always looking for gritty dramas.
JAPANESE.
+ Saiai (2021)(11/8-) ~ Airing. ★★★★★
This is easily the best thing I'm watching right now. It has been so nice to turn in every week to see what secrets each episode will drop. I am shamelessly rooting for the lead couple.
Dropped.
