OC Valentine's Challenge -> Day 3: No Second Chances Romance

She's back from Earth-2, after making a name for herself over there as The Flash. Jared is on the precipice of starting something with Wally – late night ice creams and stolen kisses in the hallway – and it's amazing as any new thing can be. But when he sees her, a little doubt starts to creep in. Maybe... he's thinking, they ended things too soon, and she's back for a reason...

Jesse pulls him aside, after a few days of skirted encounters and uneasy glances on Jared's part, to talk. They grab their regulars from Jitters, speed up to a city roof, and reminisce. In the sun, with the breeze, without the stressors of a superhero life, they realise one thing: they like each other, they have fun, they feel free to be themselves around each other... but in a way that makes them better off as friends. Not everything has to be some magical, pre-destined, meant-to-be 'thing'.

I know this is LONG passed Bingo, looong overdue, and I apologise for that. However, I still want to give your ask the love and attention it deserves, so here goes me answering all your lovely questions. :)

Happy Hogan is close to both the Stark-Potts kids due to the nature of his relationship with their parents, Pepper and Tony. I would say he has more inside jokes with Morgan who spends a little more time with him, but he loves William just as much. Will, being an introverted ADHDer, chooses to spend most of his time hyperfocused on his projects as he prefers the stimulation he receives from them as opposed to other people. He is also close to Pepper what with her being his mom and all. She makes sure to keep a closer eye on her son to make sure he doesn't forget TOO much of life while holed up with his projects. As Will grows closer towards adulthood, Pepper has had to prod him into the "real" world more and more frequently.

Melissa likes Kirk. For the longest while, she and him had a solid platonic relationship, and she held strongly to the word platonic as that's where she both felt they were best and also where she felt most comfortable with men in general (regarding her ambitions and her personal life matters she was mindful of at the time). Around the end of Into Darkness, however, she and him do get together romantically.

The Soldier has come across the Doctor before and they are surprisingly neutral looking on their fellow kin. Of course, they are glad that they aren't the only Timelord anymore, but they don't feel much of a connection between their mentality/outlooks on the universe's happenings, and they don't judge the difference either. Unlike The Doctor, who does passively wrinkle his nose at The Soldier's tendency to jump in with a fight instinct instead of a figure it out one. When they do have to work together, however, they can flow rather well. There is a string of respect tying between them, and if one needed help, the other would assist.

Lana takes after her mother more in personality. She exhibits Nora's form of practicality and cunning over Ray's, as in she holds herself with an air of individualism and is first and foremost a self-possessed, self-aware person. While of course she cares for other people, Lana thinks of her own needs and wants before that of others.

I have two favourites and can't narrow it down any further. My favourites are Stephen Knope-Wyatt and Jared Williamson. The hardest muse to write for is probably Shiloh, my son of Tyche from the Percy Jackson fandom. He's probably the hardest because I don't really know what kind of story he's best suited for and can't really think up a plot (still) for him.

3 Important Relationships:

Dad – when Jared was five, he and his family moved out of England to America except his dad, who said he'd join later once he finished up with some stuff, but he never did: he and Jared's mom separated shortly after the move. Jared barely sees him, but the impact of this absence left deep trenches on the kid growing up, always wondering in the space between (sparse) visits how much Dad thought of him or if he was just forced to hold on still.

Sister – as his twin, Ella Williamson has always been around. Mainly, they are super competitive with one another, which led them to find their own niches (Ella with academia, Jared with sports) and realise that they are more different than the same. Their relationship is characterised by this, but Jared can't imagine not having her around; deep down, there's a trust between them that the competition is a way of expressing.

Soccer Team – I guess this is more than "one" relationship, technically, but as a good team dynamic should be characterised by unison, then I'm counting it! The team is what Jared relies on for relief – any emotional, physical, or otherwise tension he has, he channels all into the game and relies on his 'mates as support. The way they help him, however, is a bit outside the legal bubble; they're rowdy teenaged boys, after all; they find corners of the city where they can break open stolen alcohol, tag building walls with spray paint, explore abandoned structures, you name it. It's fun, and Jared definitely thinks so.

2 Fears:

Being Forgotten – #fomo. from his pov, the worst fate for a person to take is slipping into oblivion without making a single splash. He's a fighter at his core, and his motor - his modus operandi - is this. His dad's absence ties into this, his mother's busy schedule ties into this, his sister's dead-on focus on her grades and school ties into this; he doesn't like feeling alone, as that leads to feeling unimportant, and that plays right into his fear.

Claustrophobia – part of his lifestyle is being free. When he's not, he grows agitated. The closer the walls are to one another, the less comfortable he'll be even entering a room (i.e. he'd never hide in a closet during hide 'n seek; he much preferred hide'n'seek-tag where he could choose to run the whole time; he's really good at running). He hates being limited, and that includes physically too.

1 Element of their backstory:

The Williamson's have lived just under the middle class line ever since they moved to America. Mr. Williamson was the one with the larger paycheck, but not even his alimony check could cover their lifestyle. Jared's mom had to work several jobs to keep her family afloat, and he hated seeing the toll it took on her. But it also had a spillover toll on him: constantly worried about losing their house was the biggest thing, whereas the smallest things just lodged in the crevices he normally would have tried to take relief from, such as never having memories of someone making lunch for him to take to school or watching all his soccer mates get outlandish presents on his birthday whereas whatever gifts he got came at the expense of rent for that month or groceries or something. He didn't think it fair, and he was jealous, too. A constant worry to add on to everything else – stoking the flaming disappointed he holds for dad, boxing him into his fear of being limited or restrained, making him feel insignificant and small. So, he turns to fast and semi-illegal means for reprieve.

✨ BACKGROUND ✨

For ten years, Jared and his twin sister, Ella, were raised in Scotland. One month before their tenth birthday, their parents moved them to the United States. They moved to Opal City. Jared never cared enough to ask why they moved in the first place, he practiced passive like that. The only thing he sulked about was detaching from his kid soccer league back in Scotland, but his mother found found him a team in Opal to ensure he could continue his one true passion. It became his saving grace. At least, at first.

The older he grew, the more it bred undesirable behaviour. Like weeds in a home garden, but weeds that looks so beautiful that he didn’t care to rip them out. His teammates– nay, his best friends in the universe and he ran around the city vandalising property and trespassing into construction zones. He demonstrated immense talent on the football (soccer) pitch, but his promise was sullied by the criminal activity. The full rides he received for pursuing the sport in college came into jeopardy. Before he reached that age, however, while he was still enjoying the first few years of high school, he found himself arrested on more than a couple occasions.

His mother, the district attorney, managed to get him off with minimal scratches to his record. On the fourth and fifth times, with community service. After that, suspension and then expulsion from school entirely. That prompted their second move, this time ending up in Central City. Rules of the Williamson house became much stricter for Jared, and much much more harshly enforced. He couldn’t even play soccer for the first year being in Central.

He was sixteen when they moved. The day the moving truck arrived at their new house and they began transferring the boxes inside, that was the night the particle accelerator exploded. Jared was sliding a box down a ramp, carefully, slowly, as it was immensely heavy, when the blast swept over him. He was struck by the dark matter– and by the heavy box. Knocked to the ground and knocked out, he awoke the next afternoon in a hospital bed. Shortly after release, he discovered his gift at controlling inertia while on the sidelines of the school athletic fields, watching in envy the varsity soccer team scrimmage, pining to be a part of it. His jealousy invoked his power, and the next shot one of the members tried to take shot SO far, it disappeared into the woods metres behind the goalposts.

Jared Williamson has no pets of his own due to his parents’ strict house rules, but he’d love to get a big dog one day, something like a large, fluffy German Shepherd.

Emery Scott has one pet in her father’s small, London apartment. All space would allow for them is one tank of two gerbils names Micky and Miles.

Jared isn’t about the speed, first and foremost. Certainly, the speed gives him a boost of adrenaline which, in turn, makes him giddy for a taste of the race, but primarily he takes after the intricate work underneath the hood; if he wanted to, he could easily opt to become an engineer in the future (too bad his heart is set on soccer).

Jared and his father set aside the time to sit down together and watch televised races. Dad would recite statistics he’s accumulated over his many years of experience while Jared would commentate from a scientific standpoint, rattling off about G-force and motors until the next crazy something happened on the televised track.

Despite his interest in drag racing, Jared has never crashed. (Not Yet.) Not in a race and not on a normal car ride. This fact makes him especially cocky when people go about the usual tactics of getting him to stop his dangerous ways.
