Questions for Janara, Belmeiya, and Citrine: first of all, races/classes/ages/all that good stuff, what are their favorite things to do in their free time, do they have Tragic Backstories or Fun Backstories or Both (please just all the backstory details), what do they love the most in the world, what scares them more than anything else?
Janara-
20 year old half orc fighter
Janara loves challenging her intelligence. In her free time on board her ship, she would get into riddle contests and long debates with her fellow crewmembers. She is also pretty good at math, but has less opportunities to do that for fun.
Janara’s backstory is a blend of Fun and Tragic! She’s the daughter of a very talented sorceress but got a lack of magical abilities from her father who she’s never met. So she grew up around many talented magic users since her mother was sought out as a teacher, but as she never manifested any abilities herself she was ignored by both the students and her mom. She finally got fed up with it and left home. She ended up working on a ship, the Liberandum V. She had a Fun backstory for about 6 years until the ship sank, leaving her out of work, which is why she’s running with her current adventure party right now.
Janara most loves the Liberandum V, even though it sank, but she’s starting to really love Bree, our party’s 12 year old bard.
She’s scared of her mother most of all. She’s also really scared for Bree right now, whose dad is paying mercenaries to kidnap her.
Belmeiya-
19 year old tiefling rogue
In her free time, Bel loves reading. Her home city is the site of the biggest library on the continent and she spent many nights sneaking in past closing hours and reading everything she could find by candle light. She also liked sleeping there to keep her off the streets at night, but she gets in trouble if she’s caught in the morning. Sometimes she borrows books without the library knowing about it and she just spends all day finding the highest place to climb to and read.
Definitely Tragic backstory! She’s very much alone in the world and has been for as long as she can remember. Her marketable skills include breaking and entering and spying, which aren’t exactly what legitimate employers are looking for, so she tends to fall into bad company quite a lot. She’s bounced back and forth between different thieving crews because they’d give her a place to stay for a while. Once she got a little older though, she started getting hired to kill people, and she couldn’t do it. She ran from that group and has been hiding from them since, in case they want revenge for her failing to do her job. She spends most nights curled up on different rooftops, using her one bag of possessions as bedding.
Bel loves literally anybody who pays attention to her. She’s desperate for attention. At this point in time she wouldn’t even dare contradict someone’s ideas in case they got tired of her. She loves people a Lot but she also isn’t very good at being around them, bless her.
Bel is terrified of being alone. She’s afraid she’s going to drive everyone away. She’s also really really scared of flying. She loves climbing because she’s in control, but now she has a friend with a pet griffin and she was on the brink of a panic attack the entire time she was in the air. Unless there’s something solid beneath her feet, she is Not a Fan.
Citrine Fire-Speaker
24 year old Firesoul Genasi Bard/warlock
Citrine likes travelling and performing, and that’s about it. Her main focus are buugengs, which you should totally go look up videos for. Her buugengs are bladed, making them her weapon in combat
Citrine is another character with a blend of Fun and Tragic. She doesn’t actually know the tragic part though, at least not in detail. Citrine was born human into a travelling performing troupe. She was known then as Citrine Silver-Tongue, because she had a beautiful singing voice. She had a really really good childhood, up until she was 18. Her troupe died in a terrible fire that started in the middle of the night. Citrine had slept outside that night instead of in the tent with her family due to a recent quarrel between them, which ended up saving her, though she didn’t escape unscathed. She would have ended up dying had it not been for a powerful efreeti. The efreeti had been disguising herself as a troupe member for some time, and decided to spare Citrine’s life with a blast of elemental energy that was just enough to turn her from a human into a genasi. The fire was no longer fatal to her, but she wasn’t changed until after her vocal cords had been ruined by the heat and smoke. She can’t remember anything prior to waking up in the midst of a burned camp. She also can’t sing anymore. Her voice is much lower and scratchy and hoarse now. The efreeti told Citrine a very specific series of events and Citrine believed she had no choice but to swear a pact to the efreeti, who became her warlock patron. Now Citrine has returned to travelling, performing with buugengs and other juggling tools instead of singing. She is a phenomenal fire-eater too. (Also look up fire buugengs they’re totally rad). She knows the efreeti will one day call in the favor, and she knows she wants to remember her past, so she is searching for any sign of her previous life while she waits.
Citrine loves performing, loves the rush of being on a stage or in front of a crowd, knowing all eyes are on her. She excels at manipulating crowds, making them think she’s in more danger than she is. She hates people, though. She lives for the moment and hates the aftermath. She loves wandering and exploring.
Citrine hates not knowing what or when the efreeti’s favor is going to be. She hates being tied down to anyone or anything.
