I've kind of joked about melliwyk being taken by surprise by her own alignment shift but honestly I think if you could have told her at the beginning of the campaign that she was chaotic neutral she'd have been rather troubled by that

#obligatory waving aside of the Issues of the dnd morality matrix to begin with I'm not interested in that right now #I think most people who aren't outright evil perceive themselves to be good people at the end of the day #there are always Perfectly Good Reasons for doing things that hurt others (or for failing to consider that you might) #or for overlooking or outright rejecting people in need #melliwyk's never been a Bad Person but she spent years answering to no one and collaborating with no one #after even more years in a research environment that actively encouraged and rewarded putting her work before anything or anyone else #you're friendly at the shops. you're nice to children. you write your parents when you remember #you don't want-- in the abstract-- for bad things to happen to innocent people #but when you read research papers involving unethical experiments it doesn't even occur to you to think about the test subjects as people #you like your new traveling companions well enough but that doesn't mean you wouldn't put your work before any of their wellbeing #it makes SENSE. it's JUSTIFIABLE. it doesn't mean you're not a Good Person..... right? #my OCs #melliwyk
